Love your videos but I refuse to watch shorts (I'M SICK OF THEM CLUTTERING UP MY FEED AND SEARCHES!!!!!!! ALSO CAAN'T STAND THE VERTICAL CAMERA MODE). Hoping you might make a full video about tankless pros and cons.
@@jhonsmitty3481 jhon, there pros and cons to shorts. For us, it takes less time to film and edit. Plus, RUclips wants shorts made. But I get it. Sometimes, there’s not enough time to get needed info in a minute. Once we have real experience with the tankless - more time dry camping - then we will make a full video. For now? I’m not a fan. We traded in our 2019 303rls a few weeks ago, for a 2020 newmar, after watching a Matt video. We loved our GD and they had great customer service, we just wanted to try something new. Working with General was a nightmare. Definitely a buyer beware situation. I'm sure, them knowing you are filming everything and putting it on RUclips, will keep them honest. So hopefully you have a much different experience than we had. Congratulations! I hope you love it and have as good of a rig as we had!
Newmar? Interesting. Curious- besides Matt’s video 😉 - for the change. Sorry to read about your General experience. Not too many people have a great experience at a dealership - RV or car. I’ve actually had worse experiences buying cars. Being a RUclipsr can help or hurt. Depends. And thanks. We hope so, too 🤗 Alice
We bought a used Tag along there. Great staff there. I even used to work there. Showing customers how to use the RV. Like the guy you told, I don't need you to show me. Finance was another story. Wasn't bait and switch, but bought more than I wanted to. Thought I read it all, but missed the Tire warranty stuff. Service is ok there, but you will have to wait several months. As that is also the same story at other dealers. All in all, I would buy there again, and am happy you found what you wanted. I always liked the Keep you camping and that you pointed it out too. I don't any other dealer has anything like that. Great video, and keep up the good work.
Bill, glad to hear from someone that actually worked at a General. I agree about financing, you really need your check every line - they must make good coin on warranties. Luckily, most issues Larry can handle - and he’s open 24/7 😁 Alice
Congrats on the new RV. We purchased an extended warranty through Holiday World of Willis because my hubby and I are not handy. We can only fix minor things and the warranty has paid off for us. Holiday World of Willis, TX has been awesome by the way. Again congrats on the new RV. You look so happy!
Martha, glad to read. Not everyone is handy. Even though Larry is a DIYer, we bought an extended warranty - it was a waste of money. Keep enjoying your travels 🤗 Alice
First and foremost congratulations, this is the first time that I have eagerly awaited an update from any channel but it was well worth the wait. I really appreciate your feedback and honesty, I’ve had my share of customer service good bad and ugly at several dealers and I think knowing exactly what you want and spelling it out clearly and if it not right hit the door. I will soon be in the process soon and will certainly let you know . Btw I have a green creeper lol , Best of luck and travels 🙏🏽looking forward to hopefully seeing you on the road
John, we felt bad being behind for a week. There was a time no one noticed 😁 It feels great to wanted and appreciated. Thanks for saying so. You are right / let them know you were willing to walk out that door and not come back . A lot still going on - the old RV will be taken away Friday. So we still have a little bit of work to be done. Wish us Luck 🤗 Alice
Congrats! You had such a clear list of must haves and non negotiables and you stuck by it. Glad you got to what you wanted and have wonderful adventures in your future. 🎉🎉
I'm so glad I found you two, first y'all are hilarious. Second, you are real and very helpful to make me feel more comfortable trying to go full/ mostly full time, at least I'm going to try it. Thanks
We are glad you found us, too. It’s great to read that our true selves are coming through. Sometimes we worry too much comes through 😁 With Larry’s illness, we definitely wish we had a homebase and will look again near Gainesville, FL next winter Just make sure you do what you are comfortable with - traveling full time isn’t for everyone 🤗 Alice
So, I'm just someone who notices things. At the 21:00 mark, when you're pulling the Reflection out, I happen to notice the gap between the top of the bedroom slide and the slide topper track. It appears the gap is wider towards the rear of the slide. I hope this isn't a problem and just someone installed the track out of square. Just an observation.
I noticed when you removed the panel in the basement that you had a mix of water lines. You will want to keep an eye on the reinforced line, they have a tendency to come loose and leak.
Congratulations on your new 5th wheel. Glad you got a great deal. We could not deal with The General RV because of all their fees. They wanted an extra $6000 of fees on an Alliance Delta tt. We went to another dealer with only a $699 fee. Better price also. We had the extended warranty on the last two campers. I have looked into warranty wholesales. A friend has had real good luck with them. Still on the fence. Safe travels and we enjoy your channel 🇺🇸🙏👍🥂
Clay, we had Wholesale Warranties and lost that money. But that was our experience. Not sure what $6,000 extra was for you? We know we got the best price out the door. And thank you, Alice
Great choice. We bought our 2018 303RLS based on floorplan. It's been a great rig. Went to a small show looking for another brand and shorter models and found GD and the 303RLS and that floorplan and design was the clincher. That said, we prefer our 4-door fridge as we can get in all but the left fridge door when the slide is closed. Access to the head during travel with slides closed was also a big selling point.
All great points. I can’t believe they make rigs that slides block bedroom and bathroom - they must be building just for weekenders 😁 We don’t need the freezer on travel days so we are fine. But happy to discover pantry is accessible, too. Enjoy your GD - great to hear from another 303er 🤗 Alice
Congratulations & happy travels! We bought an extended warranty in 2007 for our first trailer. There were no claims & cost was to be reimbursed if no claims were made. Well, the "insurance company" went belly up & we lost the $2500 we had paid for the plan. 1st & last time we paid for an "extended warranty".
We bought a new 2020 Surveyor travel trailer, and bought the wholesale warranty (not thru dealer). We had a couple of problems that were handled on the original mfgr warranty. Then 2 years later our shower started leaking into the underbelly. The wholesale warranty "covered" it but we still paid over $800 out of pocket. We are now considering a smaller 5th wheel like yours. We will be interested to see how things go with the GD.
Scott, Sorry to read about the leak. We had a Wholesale Warranty with our used Solitude - lost money on that. We will be posting all about this rig - started a new playlist for it. Hope to see you back 🤗 Alice
We just bought a Brinkley through General RV. We got a great price but got the same warranty offer which made no sense! Did try to sell us some other stuff we didn’t want but at the end we feel we got a really good deal. We will see how service after the sale goes.
Eric, we wish you the best. We did a tour of a Brinkley. Very solid. But heavier and bigger than we wanted. It’s a new company - hope its customer service can keep up as they grow 🤗 Alice
This is such a great video and perfect timing. We are picking up a Brinkley for General in a few weeks. Thanks so much for your great content. I continue to learn a lot from you guys.
Hey Larry, we have almost the same set up behind the basement wall, I was able to put one GC3 battery under the stairs, another GC 3 battery over by the plumbing left room for a third GC 3battery, I also have a Multiplus 2, and links distributor all behind that wall, I did move the wall out a few inches, and put two solar controllers mounted on the ceiling of the bay. You can do it! 👊
I have the older battleborn bats, i would love the gc3 bats and i asked battleborn for a deal but crickets from them. Im still trying to figure out where to put the equipement but im thinking im going to put it in the front basement to keep the weight as far forward as possible. Larry
Congrats on the new rig!!! I’m surprised you guys didn’t go with that new Alliance 33’ 5ver. Its short and it seems to have a bit more elbow room inside, plus you would have more basement area for your solar package. I remember you said that you should’ve checked behind the basement at the show. Would that have made a difference??? Will be interesting to see how you are able to fit everything in there. 👍😃🍻
Mike, Alliance was either too heavy or blocked bedroom/bathroom when slides in 😑 I don’t think in an initial tour, we would be allowed to unscrew the wall 😁but I don’t think it would make a difference- still the best floor plan for us. Larry is very creative- he’ll work it out - video hopefully in the near future, Alice
I am so happy for you, Alice and Larry. You've been through quite a lot these past 6 months. I look forward to you resuming your adventures. Mod # 1 - Install brackets down the sides 9:05. Kudos to Shay and Matt for their help - great folks to know for sure. Safe travels, guys, and yes, Larry, we're watching. 😊❤
Raoul, Thank you so much. We are definitely looking into beefing up underneath in some way - still transferring 4 years of upgrades 😁. We are definitely lucky to have Shay and Matt. And thanks again for letting us know you are indeed watching 😉 Alice
We bought our RV from General and while their service dept has been very frustrating in many ways to deal with the keep you camping policy is awesome and has come through for us once.
Congrats on your new RV. But spary paint over the very little rust and put in some square plastic caps ( glued them in) on the square steel tubing underneath, near the axles.
I really hope you checked the plumbing and that it was correct. Imagine is known for doing horrible and shoddy plumbing work which they admitted. They don't want to change because it's cheaper for them and most people don't have an issue during the warranty period.
@@DownsizingMakesCentsyes very true. When Tiffin has been doing crappy plumbing. I know Larry can tackle anything. He's definitely helped me out couple times by following his example. We bought a Flagstaff rv and luckily only 1 place had bad plumbing. Enjoy your new rv
I don’t want to sound critical just surprised…so all the tiny details I would NEVER a think to look at the underbelly, but the one obvious one Larry didn’t know totally surprised me…dual grey tanks? We watch videos nonstop of 5th wheel walk throughs, because we’re shopping for the rig we want..that’s always one of the major features shown up front..I love that you’re helping me learn what to look for and just kind of surprised that that obvious one you didn’t know ahead of time.
Is it called coral plast? Thanks for pointing that out..I’ve looked a a few different underbellies and there were a few that were described as “fully enclosed” that only had the silver reflectix type stuff that didn’t look secure at all!
When you say the fourth most expensive thing you’ve bought as a couple..I feel ya..the price of new lower priced 5th wheels is around the same price we paid for our old house on a little piece of land about 25 years ago. We’re looking at dropping the same chunk of change on a vehicle that depreciates by about half as soon as we tow it away..our problem is we also need a new tow vehicle and those two combined are going to cost more than what we’ll get if/when we sell our house/land!
I have noticed that funny stuff re: sales model years! I’ve been shopping and comparing a cpl of my favorite rigs online for a few years now and when I compare and look for the features I like ai realize you have to be so specific and read ALL the specs and details closely!!
Old ex trucker. The problem with 5Th Wheel frames,is the weight of them. Its excessive, and people pile in too much weight. Also, Lippert makes frames of cheaper high carbon recycled steel.
Congratulations on your new GD Reflection. If y’all are happy with the trailer and the deal you worked out, then y’all got a great deal. It doesn’t matter what others say. I’m looking forward to your upcoming videos and adventures with the new rig. Happy trails. ♥️
Happy tails to you both. When you weighted the RV and you were heavier than you thought, did you take into account the extra AC and Alice being in the passenger seat? I can't remember for sure though. Take care, Glenna
We haven't bit the bullet yet and purchased one just yet! Really appreciated seeing how you two went through this experience. I appreciate seeing your experience and your joy.
Congrats on the new home🎉. As for GD, I know there are a lot of people saying they have not had good customer service with GD, but we are happy with them. We have a Transcend Xplore (not a 5th wheel) 2020 model manufactured in Aug 2019 (pre 2020 materials and manufacturing issues). We have been very satisfied with our RV traveling between 6000-8000 miles per year. We even lived in her full time for 4 months when we were between houses due to military orders. The quality of GD is far better than other manufacturers we’ve owned. The only other manufacturer that was comparable was our Coleman pop-up from the 1990’s, which I miss greatly. I do hope this rig is great for you all and I wish you many years enjoying your life traveling.
Michele, thank you for your service. I have a niece married to someone in the service, and moving from place to place can be a challenge. All the best to you and yours 🤗 And thank you for the positivity- we didn’t want a pandemic built either. We hope we continue to get great customer service as well. Thanks again 🤗 Alice
Congratulations " Old - Fluencers" on your new RV.🎉🎉🚐🚐 Yes, a new beginning, wishing you many happy trips. Both of you look so happy even although it must of been a stressful time going through the purchase of your new RV. Time to enjoy yourselves Larry & Alice. Life is short. Larry I am about the same age as you, and I am not delaying things for the future. I have recently stopped working because I decided that at this stage of my life time is more important than money. I am still able to surf and swim in the sea doing things that I enjoy. Cheers from Durban, South Africa.
Brian, Despite having a health problems - or maybe because of them - it just learned how to foul. Congratulations Better do it today. No guarantee for tomorrow. Looks like we need a plan to crash at your place 😉 Alice
Why would they install the landing gear switch in a compartment? Makes it hard to get to. Glad our Alpine has it on the exterior wall above the propane tanks door in front. Easily accessible
It's about Time you get what you wanted. There are still a few concerns about the walk through, the bracing on the bottom panel Larry is concerned about/, Alice pass thru the Kitchen Island she has to go over the Table ? The refrigerator doors cannot be opened when slides are in. Hope it all works out for you both, Safe Travels.
I was only climbing over the table because both slides were in. We wanted to see what that would be like. We were happy that the pantry can be open even with the slides at. And the refrigerator can be open with slides in, just not the freezer. Larry will do his DIY magic and make everything. Awesome, Alice.
Alice and Larry, we’re watching and cheering you both on! Congrats on 40 years. We married very young and we are going on 44 years and I still chase my wife around 🥰
Joe, you and Larry would get along great. Maybe you two should chase each other around ha ha. Thank you for the encouragement and well wishes. 🤗 Alice.
Larry have you thought about building the basement wall out a little for your solar? Might not need to do the entire length. Hope the new rig is everything you hoped it would be.
Congratulations on your new RV. I’m with Alice, Finance is the most mental stress; even if paying with cash. We downsized our RV and it was a great choice for us.
Thank you. And I love reading that someone agrees with me 😉 I wanted to downsize to 30’ - more sites available at state and national But still glad we are not as tall, long, and wide. Glad to hear it worked for you. It seemed easier to move on our shake out trip, Alice
Awesome. Happy things went well for you. Some of that extra weight is due to you adding a second air conditioner at the dealership, that wouldn’t be included on the factory sticker.
Well, Grand Design seems to be hit or miss these days. They have their problems that they didn't have a few years back. But you went over the rig fairly well. That's a great thing. Find the problems fast. The floorplan looks very nice, and yes, Alice, you should love those windows. My General RV story isn't a good one. A couple of people from General were great. But what was not good was really not good. Fooled me once ... I hope you guys have a much better experience than we did. Enjoy your rig. And you're right, it will never be that clean again.
You are right, we never wash our rv, haha. We had a surprisingly good experience at general rv despite the hiccup with the first pickup day. Let hope we never need any help from general RV, and then we wont be disappointed. Larry
I’m so happy for you guys in finding yourself a comfortable RV selection, I wish both many blessings and good health. Not be too nosy, what’s going on with the land purchase front…
Thanks for the well wishes. Not nosy at all - we put it out there. We just couldn’t find what we wanted and had to switch gears and get new RV with time to transfer everything over in time for our summer trip. We are still looking, Alice
Congratulations!! Propane might account for the additional weight. When we purchased our Airstream we were told that the dry weight doesn’t include propane and that the dealership fills the tanks before you take it home.
We pick our Outdoors RV this Friday! The difference in the feel between it and the other commonly known manufacturers is very different, ours is 8 yrs old & is so solid walking in it, the drawers, cupboards everything is solid. Being out east it would be a rare sighting if there was an Outdoors RV on a dealer’s lot. They’re rare here & I’m in western Canada!
Love the videos and congrats on the new rig. One thing to watch out for (We have a 2023 Reflection 367BHS) which in the living room area layout is very close to your 303RL. Behind the couch, down at floor level is a 90 degree angle iron screwed into the floor and rear wall. I repeatedly had the screws come out that went into the rear wall. I replaced them once with lock-tite and toothpicks but they came out again. Unfortunately, one of the screws rolled forward and rolled under the slide with the recliners. When we put the slide out the screw was pinched between the underside of the slide and the floor and tore a small hole in the vinyl flooring. 2nd fix was getting some mollie screws from the big box store and securing the piece of angle iron to the back wall using those. You have to be cautious and make sure the bolts are short enough that they don't do through the rear wall. Hope you don't have the same issue or that you catch it right away before it becomes and issue. Safe travels - Bill
Bill, thanks you and thanks for the heads up. We recently pulled apart the bed couch and removed the bed - less weight. We didn’t see any issues with it being poorly screwed down - and less weight will help. Hope the slide wasn’t badly damaged. What did GD say about the issue? Safe travels to you, too 🤗 Alice
@@DownsizingMakesCents Never got Grand Design involved. I did speak with the dealer and they suggested using lock-tight on the screws. Didn't work. Used mollies after the screws came loose the second time. We usually have a rug down in the area of the tear so not a big deal. Dealer sealed the tear to prevent any water getting in, when we had the rig in for it's 6 month check up.
The second AC more than likely wasn't on the weight sticker since it was added on. Not sure that is almost 400 pounds but it would have added something to it for sure
Congratulations!! Get back to living the life!It is a great rig!! It looks great! I still say the dealer should have known the details of the other unit being a 2024 with the wrong slide transition.
Richard, you are so right. Matt was a great help - and hilarious, too. It’s basically 33’ - but it’s also not as wide, not as tall, or as heavy as our Solitude, Alice
Scored!! Well done. Handsome looking unit. Good Luck and enjoy. We are happy for you. Take care. I really like the details and content you created on the whole process. Again well done.
If you do a little research online, you'll find that the "frame flex" issue isn't just Grand Design. It's across multiple manufacturers among heavy fifth wheels. It's just been on RUclips more about GD because there are so many "influences" that are in GD trailers. You'll find the same issue showing up with Keystone Montanas, etc.
At 2:30 and 10:30 that seam looks a little jenky, with bubbles as well. Did you have an RV inspector look at it before getting it? Also, you should have pointed out that the general RV get you camping thingy is only for warranty issues within 30 days of delivery, so what happens on day 31 you get thrown in line with a two month wait? For warranty issue? Were you compensated or discounted in any way by general RV so that you would cover some of these items? Does a new insurance specifically cover or exclude full-time living? And one last question do you know if grand design is a separate company so that if grand design files for bankruptcy in seven months will Winnebago still back your warranty? At 19:01 Did you really get a 24 303rls for $60k total. That means what fees and taxes maybe 55K-ish purchase price? Least$ on rv trader is like 73k?? am I missing something here? Thank you for the videos. I’ve been watching yours and already subscribed I get while you’re getting the mid profile which don’t seem to have the issues so I totally appreciate compared to other manufacturers right now. This may be a decent deal.
The dealers are not allow to show discounted prices on RV trader for current model year RVs, so 55k for a 303 rls is a reasonable price that anyone should be able to get. as far as i know the keep you camping thing is for as long as you own your rv and bought it from general rv. I dont think it has anything to do with warranty. We were not compensated by general rv in ANY way, nor did we get special treatment because we are youtubers. I dont think grand design is going anywhere, the are part of Winnebago and they will back them for years to come, we are not worried about that. Our insurance does cover us for full time, its a little extra a year for “full time” policy. I hope i answered all your questions. Larry
@@DownsizingMakesCents thanks Larry at 3:30 they keep you camping guarantee under camping critical issues says right there “any warranty issues within 30 days of delivery“ so I was only referring to the camping critical issues. Looks to me like 30 days can you show me where it says forever. As long as you own it? Thanks again. Appreciate you.
Alice, Larry, I wish you all the best with your new rig. It does look very nice. But as GD has made no significant improvement to the RV's frame, expect it to perform the same as your former RV. Static weight of your RV is not an issue, the problem is with the amplitude of suspension movement going down the road since as the suspension flexes, that static weight's impact is multiplied as it becomes a dynamic force. The leaf springs and equalizer mounting soften the blow but don't eliminate it. Regards 😁
@@lyndcason7516 except that data being collected indicates that the vast majority of the frame flex/failures incidences are with Grand Design products. And their failure to own up to it means I will not be a GD customer.
I’d bet that most of that 396 lbs came from the second AC. Possibly the second awning as well if that’s an option. Also the website weight doesn’t include propane in the tanks or a battery.
Congratulations Larry and Alice. 🎉🎉🎉 So very happy for you. Now it’s time to get back out onto America’s open roads and “continue the adventure” of making many more “travel of a lifetime” memories. 😊
Tim, ugh. Don’t get me started on Furrion/Lippert ACs. They are loud, temp sensor is inside the AC unit? And even after moving the sensor at least below the AC and into the room, the temps seem to be off by 5 degrees, at least. We miss our old ACs, for sue. We hope to modify in the future to fix these issues. Alice
I was waiting for you to say something about your AC’s when I saw them. My son put those in his car hauler with front living quarters and they freeze up every time he’s used them.Had a mobile tech out twice when they were still under warranty and he moved the sensors lower but still in the casing and have never worked correctly. This past month at the beach he moved the sensors below the AC like you’re talking about and that’s the only way they worked….Love you got your new rig. May the lord bless you with many more happy memories and trips. Stay safe and travel happy..😊
Mike, we did when we bought the used Solitude. New has a warranty. Plus, after 4 years and 50,000 miles fixing or modifying, Larry knows what to look for. If we were newbies, I would recommend a 3rd party inspection, Alice
I grew up in oakville ontario, and went to camp in Halliburton highlands, Algonquin is still one of my favorite Ontario parks, but there are so many there to love. Larry
Not a "bait and switch" situation. Every manufacturer changes model years around the first of May without really making any changes. Then they all do a mid-year update around September where there are actually many changes made. The tow-kick that you didn't like was a mid-year change for that particular line of GD Reflection trailers. It makes no sense, but that's what just about every manufacturer does.
Lynd, There should be set dates across manufacturers when major changes will come out. And early 2023 should be marked 2023. This is our 4th RV and never had such a major change in the same year Alice
@DownsizingMakesCents I agree 100%. Major changes should happen when the model year changes. It's too confusing the way they do it now. When we bought our 2018 Reflection, it was right when the 2019's came out and they were identical. We bought our Solitude towards the end of the year and didn't see that issue.
You are right i forgot abou the propane, i figured the 2nd ac, but i think the heavy part is the solar panels, they are cheap heavy Chinese crap. Larry
Congrats on your new RV. I enjoy your videos & and you are a wonderful couple, but I do not understand why you went back to Grand Design? I get it, that you like the layout and you got a good deal, but you did not learn your lesson or have you forgotten about your problems with Frame Failure??
These big 5Th Wheels are too heavy. Then, people add even more weight. Most never scale a rig. And,frames are now made lighter, with recycled high carbon steel.
I always try to do my first weigh and 2nd weigh of the truck with approximately the same amount of fuel, usually i go the next day a after dropping the rv and find the closest cat scale usually dont have to go more than 20 miles that about one gallon or 8 pounds lost so its not a big deal.
If you buy new, frame should be 3 year warranty. We bought used. But luckily Progressive insurance covered it. See links to videos about it in description Alice
John and Caroline we really appreciate it. The shake out overall went well, just a couple of hiccups. Now to get everything else off the old RV and squeeze into the new one. Ha ha thanks for being there for us, 🤗 , Alice
Ralph, it was interesting that we weren’t “required” to sign some of the paperwork. Hopefully, we never have to see how that plays out. And thanks 🤗 Alice
Nice, I was reading some of the comments and I have to say some people are just negative, but I am happy for you. As long as you’re happy with what you have, people should be happy for you. Alice, you’re a cute. Larry, hehehe.
Tim, thank you so much. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of negativity when it comes to buying a new RV - that’s on the manufacturers and dealers for not stepping up on customer service. Our experience so far wasn’t perfect, but about the same as when we bought the dually. Many people have been positive - wishing us well. We think they are just trying to “look out for us” 🤗 And I won’t let Larry read this comment 😉 Alice

Depends.
And thanks. We hope so, too 🤗

Kathy, thanks for understanding our “wants”. After 4 years, 50,000 miles, we know what works for us.
Just some more downsizing now 😁
Alice
Congratulations Alice and Larry! Very Nice Fifth wheel !❤🎉🎉🎉
Thanks, Carol. Can’t wait for our summer trip 🤗
Alice
I'm so glad I found you two, first y'all are hilarious. Second, you are real and very helpful to make me feel more comfortable trying to go full/ mostly full time, at least I'm going to try it. Thanks
We are glad you found us, too. It’s great to read that our true selves are coming through. Sometimes we worry too much comes through 😁
With Larry’s illness, we definitely wish we had a homebase and will look again near Gainesville, FL next winter
Just make sure you do what you are comfortable with - traveling full time isn’t for everyone 🤗
Alice
So, I'm just someone who notices things. At the 21:00 mark, when you're pulling the Reflection out, I happen to notice the gap between the top of the bedroom slide and the slide topper track. It appears the gap is wider towards the rear of the slide. I hope this isn't a problem and just someone installed the track out of square. Just an observation.
Thanks for pointing that out I will check it to see. Larry
And thank you,
Alice
Great choice. We bought our 2018 303RLS based on floorplan. It's been a great rig. Went to a small show looking for another brand and shorter models and found GD and the 303RLS and that floorplan and design was the clincher. That said, we prefer our 4-door fridge as we can get in all but the left fridge door when the slide is closed. Access to the head during travel with slides closed was also a big selling point.
All great points. I can’t believe they make rigs that slides block bedroom and bathroom - they must be building just for weekenders 😁
We don’t need the freezer on travel days so we are fine. But happy to discover pantry is accessible, too.
Enjoy your GD - great to hear from another 303er 🤗
Alice
Congratulations & happy travels!
We bought an extended warranty in 2007 for our first trailer. There were no claims & cost was to be reimbursed if no claims were made. Well, the "insurance company" went belly up & we lost the $2500 we had paid for the plan. 1st & last time we paid for an "extended warranty".
Debra, our Solitude was used so we paid for Wholesale Warranty - about same as you - waste of money
Alice
@@inthesun3884it’s a shame,
Alice
We bought a new 2020 Surveyor travel trailer, and bought the wholesale warranty (not thru dealer). We had a couple of problems that were handled on the original mfgr warranty. Then 2 years later our shower started leaking into the underbelly. The wholesale warranty "covered" it but we still paid over $800 out of pocket. We are now considering a smaller 5th wheel like yours. We will be interested to see how things go with the GD.
Scott,
Sorry to read about the leak.
We had a Wholesale Warranty with our used Solitude - lost money on that.
We will be posting all about this rig - started a new playlist for it.
Hope to see you back 🤗
Alice
Congratulations!! 🎉 So excited for your new rig and your new journey!
Beth, Thank you so much. It really is quite a journey, Alice.
It’s a new company - hope its customer service can keep up as they grow 🤗
Alice
This is such a great video and perfect timing. We are picking up a Brinkley for General in a few weeks. Thanks so much for your great content. I continue to learn a lot from you guys.
Matt,
Thank you so much. Good luck with your purchase.
It’s great to read our videos are helping 🤗
Alice
Hey Larry, we have almost the same set up behind the basement wall, I was able to put one GC3 battery under the stairs, another GC 3 battery over by the plumbing left room for a third GC 3battery, I also have a Multiplus 2, and links distributor all behind that wall, I did move the wall out a few inches, and put two solar controllers mounted on the ceiling of the bay. You can do it! 👊
I put 3 LFP 100Ah under my steps.
👍😃🍻
Mike, Alliance was either too heavy or blocked bedroom/bathroom when slides in 😑
I don’t think in an initial tour, we would be allowed to unscrew the wall 😁but I don’t think it would make a difference- still the best floor plan for us.
Larry is very creative- he’ll work it out - video hopefully in the near future,
Alice
I am so happy for you, Alice and Larry. You've been through quite a lot these past 6 months. I look forward to you resuming your adventures. Mod # 1 - Install brackets down the sides 9:05. Kudos to Shay and Matt for their help - great folks to know for sure. Safe travels, guys, and yes, Larry, we're watching. 😊❤
Raoul,
Thank you so much. We are definitely looking into beefing up underneath in some way - still transferring 4 years of upgrades 😁.
We are definitely lucky to have Shay and Matt.
And thanks again for letting us know you are indeed watching 😉
Alice
We bought our RV from General and while their service dept has been very frustrating in many ways to deal with the keep you camping policy is awesome and has come through for us once.
That’s great to hear. We hope we don’t need though 😉
Sorry about other issue,
Alice
Congrats on your new RV. But spary paint over the very little rust and put in some square plastic caps ( glued them in) on the square steel tubing underneath, near the axles.
Thanks for the tips! I’ll tell Larry,
Alice
I really hope you checked the plumbing and that it was correct. Imagine is known for doing horrible and shoddy plumbing work which they admitted. They don't want to change because it's cheaper for them and most people don't have an issue during the warranty period.
Jaz, even the expensive, luxury Brinkley had crappy plumbing.
Larry will be upgrading the plumbing as we have the time,
Alice

@@jf1a8x1yes, but spelt ‘coroplast’, short for corrugated plastic.
Congrats on the new rig.....you guys have been through a lot with that.
It’s been crazy, but when it’s al finally shed it will be a comfy home 🤗

Congratulations on your new GD Reflection. If y’all are happy with the trailer and the deal you worked out, then y’all got a great deal. It doesn’t matter what others say. I’m looking forward to your upcoming videos and adventures with the new rig. Happy trails. ♥️
Greg,
Thank you. We appreciate the support. And we hope to have lots of new memories 🤗
Alice
Happy tails to you both. When you weighted the RV and you were heavier than you thought, did you take into account the extra AC and Alice being in the passenger seat? I can't remember for sure though. Take care, Glenna
We haven't bit the bullet yet and purchased one just yet! Really appreciated seeing how you two went through this experience. I appreciate seeing your experience and your joy.
Lara, make sure they know you are ready to walk away. And know more about the RV then them. Do your research.
Good luck,
Alice
Congratulations guys well deserved !!!! Looks so nice . ❤
Milly, thanks. We love the support and need it. We still
Have lots of work ahead.

All the best to you and yours 🤗
And thank you for the positivity- we didn’t want a pandemic built either. We hope we continue to get great customer service as well.
Thanks again 🤗

Congratulations " Old - Fluencers" on your new RV.🎉🎉🚐🚐 Yes, a new beginning, wishing you many happy trips. Both of you look so happy even although it must of been a stressful time going through the purchase of your new RV. Time to enjoy yourselves Larry & Alice. Life is short. Larry I am about the same age as you, and I am not delaying things for the future. I have recently stopped working because I decided that at this stage of my life time is more important than money. I am still able to surf and swim in the sea doing things that I enjoy. Cheers from Durban, South Africa.
Brian,
Despite having a health problems - or maybe because of them - it just learned how to foul.
Congratulations
Better do it today. No guarantee for tomorrow. Looks like we need a plan to crash at your place 😉
Alice
Why would they install the landing gear switch in a compartment? Makes it hard to get to. Glad our Alpine has it on the exterior wall above the propane tanks door in front. Easily accessible
I know, right? That’s added to our mod list 😉
Alice
Hi Larry
It was so nice seeing and talking with you in Publix today.
Hope you are enjoying the new rv.
Downsizing do make Cents.
Great meeting you, too. And thanks.Haha - let’s hope it makes sense.
🤗 Alice.
Congrats and now it's time for heading out and having FUN!!!
Still moving 😂
Larry have you thought about building the basement wall out a little for your solar? Might not need to do the entire length. Hope the new rig is everything you hoped it would be.
Watch Larry’s solar series - never got a chance to finish - he shows how he changed the basement in the Solitude
Alice
Congratulations on your new RV. I’m with Alice, Finance is the most mental stress; even if paying with cash. We downsized our RV and it was a great choice for us.
Thank you. And I love reading that someone agrees with me 😉
I wanted to downsize to 30’ - more sites available at state and national
But still glad we are not as tall, long, and wide. Glad to hear it worked for you.
It seemed easier to move on our shake out trip,
Alice
Awesome. Happy things went well for you. Some of that extra weight is due to you adding a second air conditioner at the dealership, that wouldn’t be included on the factory sticker.
Michael, that makes cents. Someone also mentioned propane and a few other extras,
Alice
See how well it stands up. We had one and it literally fell apart right in front of us. Never again.
Larry, sorry to read this.
Our Solitude started to fall apart on our first trip.
Our first trip in our Reflection? Nothing fell off 😁
Alice
Great video guys!! I love my GD Reflection 297rsts , And they have always taken care of me. Would I buy another GD? You betcha, thanks guys!!!

Congratulations on your new baby... Exciting to start over.. Good luck DMC
James,
We always appreciate your comments - well, most of them 😉

Awesome. Have fun with your new rig.
Thank you. Taking for another test drive soon 😁
Alice
We are still looking,
Alice
The 2nd a/c added weight, but probably not 400#s. Nice rig, hope u guys love it!
Thanks. That’s what we figured.

Congrats guys!!! I hope you have many years of safe travels.
Rene, thanks for the well wishes 🤗

Nice. I'm glad that you found the right one for you both. Looking forward to seeing more. Thanks.
Joan, we are, too 😉 We look at some many brands and models.
We hope to stay on “schedule” - a short on Wednesday and full video on Sunday

Alice
Great video both of you! Congratulations. Is the 2-year-old video about DIY solar basically what you're planning for the new RV?
Kevin, thanks. Yes and no. If Larry can squeeze it all in 😅
Alice
Congratulations!! Propane might account for the additional weight. When we purchased our Airstream we were told that the dry weight doesn’t include propane and that the dealership fills the tanks before you take it home.
Yes propane and the 2nd AC that wasn’t stock.
Maria, good point about propane. We are also figuring 2nd AC added after delivery. But that’s still a big difference,
Alice
@@richdv6800Rich, that makes sense,
Alice
it does matter what company..... thats why I chose Outdoor RV....... Hope it works well for you......
Unfortunately, they did not have the floor plan that we wanted
Safe travels to you, too 🤗
Alice
@@DownsizingMakesCents Never got Grand Design involved. I did speak with the dealer and they suggested using lock-tight on the screws. Didn't work. Used mollies after the screws came loose the second time. We usually have a rug down in the area of the tear so not a big deal. Dealer sealed the tear to prevent any water getting in, when we had the rig in for it's 6 month check up.
Yes we’re watching Larry!😂. Congratulations!!
Patrick, Awww. Thanks. We are still
Surprised by how many watch and comment.
We appreciate the support 🤗

The second AC more than likely wasn't on the weight sticker since it was added on. Not sure that is almost 400 pounds but it would have added something to it for sure
Chad, you are right. Someone else mentioned propane and perhaps second awning?
Alice
Congratulations!!
Get back to living the life!It is a great rig!!
It looks great! I still say the dealer should have known the details of the other unit being a 2024 with the wrong slide transition.
Appreciate it. We can’t wait. Our “share out” trip was too short 😁
We still are giving General “the benefit of the doubt” 😉

You are pretty brave buying a GD what with all the issues on utube lately. Hope yours works out well.
We addressed those concerns in the video. Thanks though,
Alice
@@lyndcason7516 Lynd, well put 🤗

Good luck with General RV!,

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I’m still not a fan of any RV built in Elkhart Indiana but what can you do.
Michael,
Glad you enjoyed it. Aren’t most of them built there?
Alice
@@DownsizingMakesCents Unfortunately……yes. It seems to be the only common denominator among all of these RV problems.
Regards 😁
That's true of all rigs, not just GD.
@@lyndcason7516 except that data being collected indicates that the vast majority of the frame flex/failures incidences are with Grand Design products. And their failure to own up to it means I will not be a GD customer.
Daniel, thanks. Frame issues are across brands and with bigger rigs. And we think our damage started with a specific incident coupled with Sumos
Alice
💯 and mostly the bigger rigs have issues

Ken, we really had no choice, but to look for a new RV because what happened 😁
Alice
I’d bet that most of that 396 lbs came from the second AC. Possibly the second awning as well if that’s an option. Also the website weight doesn’t include propane in the tanks or a battery.
Sounds about right.
That’s why we weighed it before we moved in 😉

Congrats. Curious on the furrion A/C units, are the just as loud as your old one?

Lynd,
There should be set dates across manufacturers when major changes will come out. And early 2023 should be marked 2023.
This is our 4th RV and never had such a major change in the same year

@DownsizingMakesCents I agree 100%. Major changes should happen when the model year changes. It's too confusing the way they do it now.
When we bought our 2018 Reflection, it was right when the 2019's came out and they were identical. We bought our Solitude towards the end of the year and didn't see that issue.
The 396 lbs is likely battery, propane tanks and the second AC.
Dry weights are listed without any of those.
You are right i forgot abou the propane, i figured the 2nd ac, but i think the heavy part is the solar panels, they are cheap heavy Chinese crap. Larry
Congratulations on a new, rig, very nice.
Thanks, Denny 🤗
Alice
Congrats guys! Hope you create many wonderful new memories in your new rig. Have fun out there you "old-fluencers" you 😂.
Thanks, guys. Hope Leslie heals quickly. Couple more years and you will be oldfluencers, too 😉
Alice
Congrats on your new RV. I enjoy your videos & and you are a wonderful couple, but I do not understand why you went back to Grand Design? I get it, that you like the layout and you got a good deal, but you did not learn your lesson or have you forgotten about your problems with Frame Failure??
These big 5Th Wheels are too heavy.
Then,people add even more weight.
Most never scale a rig.
And,frames are now made lighter, with recycled high carbon steel.
William, we thought we addressed this in the video? We bought lighter and smaller so we did learn a great deal. Plus, it’s not just GD
Alice
Did you have the same fuel level for both weights? Most people weigh loaded and empty the same day and scale.
I always try to do my first weigh and 2nd weigh of the truck with approximately the same amount of fuel, usually i go the next day a after dropping the rv and find the closest cat scale usually dont have to go more than 20 miles that about one gallon or 8 pounds lost so its not a big deal.
Congratulations on your new rig
Audrey, thank you so much 🤗

Who warranties Grand Designs frame flex/twist problems on the 5th wheels....the frame builder or GD?
If you buy new, frame should be 3 year warranty. We bought used. But luckily Progressive insurance covered it. See links to videos about it in description

Congratulations from John and Caroline! We have enjoyed following along to see the final choice. Best of luck on the “Shake Up!” 😅
John and Caroline we really appreciate it. The shake out overall went well, just a couple of hiccups. Now to get everything else off the old RV and squeeze into the new one. Ha ha thanks for being there for us, 🤗 , Alice
Very cool you found what you wanted! Lehto’s law helps people save their butts ! A great watch ! Best Wishes Alice & Larry!😁👍
Ralph, it was interesting that we weren’t “required” to sign some of the paperwork. Hopefully, we never have to see how that plays out.
And thanks 🤗

Nice, I was reading some of the comments and I have to say some people are just negative, but I am happy for you. As long as you’re happy with what you have, people should be happy for you. Alice, you’re a cute. Larry, hehehe.
Tim, thank you so much. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of negativity when it comes to buying a new RV - that’s on the manufacturers and dealers for not stepping up on customer service.
Our experience so far wasn’t perfect, but about the same as when we bought the dually.
Many people have been positive - wishing us well. We think they are just trying to “look out for us” 🤗
And I won’t let Larry read this comment 😉
Alice
So happy for y’all! Great video too!❤
Wayne, thank you so much. We try our best to be helpful - and entertaining 😉
Alice
I highly recommend you watch Josh the RV Nerd about Frame Flex issues.
Merrillee,
We discuss this issue in other videos and we are aware of the channel. Thanks,
Alice
I saw the LP hose lines under the RV are rubber hoses, shouldn’t they be copper to better weather outside?
Many RVs use improper plumbing - we slowly changed out some plastic fittings for brass, as an example,
