    Put a bead on the leader and twist one of the barbs to the opposite way and hook that barb in the bead to hold it and it'll cast further.

    • @HaiFishing
      @HaiFishing  Год назад

      Thanks for mentioning this method! I use to do this method too but I prefer not twisting the barbs out on my jigs. Also sometimes the barb doesn’t come out of the bead when it lands on the water. So I started doing this method instead which I find works the same and casts just as far

    Do you prefer to keep your main and leader light for squid? I’ve seen a few people go for 20lb leader to make snags easier to work out of.

    • @HaiFishing
      @HaiFishing  Год назад

      It depends where you’re squid fishing. When I squid in harbours or off the beach or sheltered bays with minimal snags, I use PE0.6 (6-13lb test) with the same leader rating. When I squid off the rocks or at a new location I’m not familiar with the bottom, where there’s a higher chance of snagging I use PE0.8 (8-16lb test) with the same leader rating or higher, but I wouldn’t go higher than 20lb. When going higher than 20lb leader you’ll find casting your FG knot through the guides at lot more difficult and it will result in decreased casting distance and a higher potential for wind knots.

    Hi Hai nice vlog very informative can I ask do you charge the jig with UV if so what do you use to keep or improve the glow of the jig

    • @HaiFishing
      @HaiFishing  Год назад +1

      Thanks John! I don’t usually charge the jig with UV light when I’m squidding during the day or at sunset or sunrise. I only ever charge the jig with a UV light torch when I’m squidding at night. I use just small UV torch to charge the jigs up and they tend to stay glowing for at least 2 casts and retrieves

    Does swell height and tide matter here? If so what is optimal? Cheers for the video!

    • @HaiFishing
      @HaiFishing  Год назад

      The lower the swell the better, squid don’t like turbulent waters, they prefer calm conditions to hunt in. This is why it’s always easier to catch squid in sheltered bays with a lot of sea weed beds and grass. 2 hours before and after high or low tide is usually the best. Dawn and Dusk are the best times too. The higher the barometric pressure the more active they are too. You might not get all of these conditions aligning at the same time but getting at least 2/4 to match up would yield a squid or two land-based. Goodluck!

    Do think your side or boat ramp side better?

    • @HaiFishing
      @HaiFishing  6 месяцев назад +1

      I just fish whatever side has the wind behind me when I cast, I don’t think it matters too much because the squid move around the bay

    Is the swell here always low or should I go there when it’s under 1m. Do you remember what swell it was this day?

    • @HaiFishing
      @HaiFishing  11 месяцев назад

      Hey mate, swell there is usually always low as it’s a very sheltered bay. Goodluck!

      @@KSM_08 I think it was the size small since I was using 6lb line and leader in the video. I usually use the size medium for 16lb or higher line and leader for extra chance of recovery if I get snagged
