Thank you Nev! I always wanted to see your set up regarding sinkers threaded onto your trace & didn’t have to wait very long for you to show it! Thank you so much!
Hi Guys - I'm 77 and love my Freak fish kayak. Today, I paddled quietly around with a thawed out frozen hardy head trawling behind on my rod and caught a 1kg grunter bream. Awesome catching fish like this on your kayak!! Trying for squid tomorrow.
I’m a big yak fisherman, it’s really good fun. Of course all the expensive hobies and old towns are good but I’ve been using a Malibu mini x for 3 years and only in the last month I’ve upgraded to the berkley angler.
I was just at Cowes Jetty and I spotted a squid chasing my plastic and because I'm a squidding noob I checked RUclips for tips and this was the first video I saw. Will try it out tomorrow with your tips and see what happens. Tide was low and water was extra shallow.
Got a decent size one on my first cast left of the pier. Hooked a bigger one that came off as I was pulling it up the pier, hooked another 2 that came off too.
Good work mate why do some people put a float then a sinker and then put a swivel then tie 1 arm length of leader then the squid jig witch method is better
Thanks Nev, good info and results, how about getting a Jet-ski to fish off, bit hard if you haven't got a car license but they are good to fish off when you are young, no good if you have back issues. good for trolling etc. They are a tad expensive to buy though! But in regards to the kayak, there should be heaps of 2nd hand one about or a 2nd hand Hobbie $$$
Goodmorning bro. Im from mauritius. i have a question. Im just learning the techniques from you. I just wanted you to enlighten me. Im fishing with a 3.0 squid jig. Obviously it does not float because of the weight. When i cast the jig, if i let it sink and leave it there, will the squid attack the jig or should it always be moving. Please help
If you don't have a float on you should keep it moving or it will probably sink to the bottom and you won't get anything. I know this comment is old but just thought I'd answer.
So, you are telling me, you can put a squid jig on a float and leave it like a baitrunner rig, and a squid that attacks the jig will stay hooked long enough for you to pick up the unattended rod and start reeling in?
@@NevsFishing I should definitely try it then. BTW don't start Kayak or anything that'll change how you make your videos. The non-shakiness of your content makes it very easy to watch.
Thank you, i will always keep some land based content in the mix as i enjoy it heaps myself but i will be doing some kayak videos just to catch more fish and for a bit of variety
I've never seen a slip float rigged like that, which is why I've avoided them. I've lost my gear a few times because I forgot to tie a stopper knot. I'm keen to try it. Have you experienced line breakage when running the line thru twice?
Fucken oath I'ld love to see kayak vids. I just bought my first kayak a week ago and got my first kingfish in syd harbour on weekend :), no clue what's a good kayak or anything aslong as it floats she'll be right haha
Hey mate good vid would appreciate if you could tell me what pier you are at in this vid and also some other good squid spots that you know of thanks mate
I find that when you are jigging, you arent putting enough power into the jerks. It does depend on the tide, at high tide squid are most active and they will attack a more active jig. Whipping your rod will produce quite a few squid
Got these thinking they were the slightly larger Panfish floats ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_rJB7cli5f1ofPVGgn80S7Yj4vqwq0gU they work just fine. The smaller size lets me carry more in my tackle box, and the 3 color choices are nice for different lighting conditions, backgrounds, etc. They aren't the most durable things in the world. But, as cheap as they are, it's not heartbreaking to lose one or have to replace a worn one. The price on these fluctuates wildly, from about $9 to almost $16. So, time your buy accordingly.

Ive been looking into second hand hobie pro anglers, jetski maybe a little but too expensive but might be something to do in the future!
just a 2.7 metre kayak from bcf mate, the are really good! 😂 Great video, some good tips
Hi nev just went squiding and also this is my RUclips with the video of the squid
“Isaac’s Fishing Adventures”
Thanks. Enjoyed it
Great video squidy
Thanks, Nev...
Try some elastic cotton tied on for a stopper.
You can fish deep as you want but can still cast.
New to the channel enjoying the awesome content man!! Keep it up I hope you crack it!
Hey mate I used the float method but it seemed to get tangled up the top in the water any solutions?
what is the full rod and reel setup man and are you using leader to your braid on just the jig?
Shimano stradic ci4+ reel, shimano sephia egi rod and 20lb leader off the 12lb braid
I'd love to see you do some yak videos
Where was this place, Nev? I had been to Flinders, Stony Point and Portsea piers. I caught one squid only at Portsea.
Tks, will use your methods here in jpn
Great video, thanks for sharing. Can you catch squid at surf beaches
So any saltwater, sandy beach with weed is good enough? Or does it need to be ocean ?
Yes get a kayak 👌👌👌 know a couple guys you could go fishing with in it as well 😅
You fellas can teach me👌
Nice.. Thanks.. Bro..
What do you call that retractable stick to collect the squid securely?
Squid gaff
@@NevsFishing cheers!

Have you ever used a pananoster rig with squid jigs on it?
Or a drop shot rig

Sir what lbs os your line? Also your rod and reel? Nice catch sir
I'm confused is the ball sinker and snap swivel and float on the leader line?
Yes it seems that way. He pulls the leader line about 2x arms lengths.
Hi is your favorite type of jig
Get the yak! I wanna get a yak
Hey mate where is this place ???
Cowes
your videos are epic man, where are you based
Based in Victoria in AUS, glad you enjoy!
Also, how much line do you allow them to pull? Thanks
fairly loose drag for squid
is this phillip island?

Already done
Wait so the float method I can just sit there and pound beers? I will take the float method
What state are you in. NSW or Victoria? Narrowing it down from there would be sincerely appreciated given that I am at Brisbane, Queensland.
Victoria, this spot is called Cowes on Phillip Island

Big hint if you have a big bow in your line watch your line dont try and feel for hits.
Yeah mate i know, i was talking about when people dont wind up the slack when fishing current, creates way too big of a bow
Nev's Fishing Agree and disagree if your slacks going under the pier yer tighten it but if it ain’t I wouldn’t worry just watch your line.
@FlicknFishin Yeah nah I don't agree fully but each to their own and I can see where your coming from, cheers for the feedback!
Good
Get a sup, they are the best fishing kayak for many reasons.

Not bad for cowes pier
Where you live
mancing bosq, mantab dan mari mampir
The best fishing is high or low tide
Depends on location, at this one particular high tide
Please go fishing in the kayak
Wow sogood
Who the hell more than two rods in the water?
Cowes pier
too complicated for a novice
In Vic, don't get caught with more than 2 rods or you're going to be fined
Really!
I used to rods the other day
Don't get caught in Vic full stop.
