Appreciate all the hard work that goes into these videos! Not only entering but highly informative. BTW my grandfather who is no longer with us always made me lap valves... sweep the shop or lapping valves. 😆 wouldn't trade those days for anything.
My dad always drove cars that one could reasonably describe as "needing a bit of love". Which meant that every couple of years, there'd be an engine all over the basement floor. I was always amazed that he'd get them back together again, running much better than when he started. The first such I remember was a Ford Fairlane early-1960s wagon that he took apart in perhaps 1968. I was a wee lad of 5, but I remember oily pans all over his workbench with valves and rockers and lifters and the like. I don't think we replaced that vehicle until 1971 or so with a 1968 Firebird. But TBH, I think I'm learning more watching your channel than I learned from all my dad's forays into engine repair. He grew up during WWII in the UK. It was inconceivable to him to NOT do all his own engine repairs, including complete rebuilds...
I'm going to start here and edit to add just because I'll forget my point. So yeah, I ended up just BUYING a stupid chevrolet power steering pulley puller. EVERY time I had to pull something or do work on an engine the darn POWER STEERING PULLEY needed to come of for one reason or another. After the second time I just broke down and bought one. It was probably one of my better put away but remember I have it tools.. edit: man oh man, it's that camera that slows everything down.. rain doesn't help nor does the cold and everything you have to do to compensate for either! It's ALWAYS a great day when you upload for us all to enjoy, thank again for the hard work you share with us!!
The shop looks excellent can’t wait !!old and slow is the way to go lol you don’t have any choice in that but love watching you do the old-school engine job Musta got lucky on the ones I did cams and heads and it worked out great… that’s an interesting fireplace you have the dragon you say hmmmm … stay warm great videos don’t you dare stop releasing on Friday nights made my evening🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
No better way to relax on the weekends than watching your videos and relaxing very informative and educational my kids too are your fans keep it coming God bless
Your videos are very interesting. I wish that when I was a younger man I would’ve gotten into working on cars but I just didn’t now I’m 73 years old. I’ve been tinkering a little bit. That’s why watching videos that you make and others make I learn things and I appreciate what you do and you’re a darn good teacher. Plus, you’re very entertaining.
Reminds me of my 91 k1500. -5 degrees and it started without an issue. I sold it ten years ago, I still see it running around this busy city. Makes me want another.
Great job about degreeing cams! Haven't seen very many people talk about that important feature! As usual, YOU are a very interesting and funny guy to watch, educational and a little southern charm to boot!
You would think after all the time you spend on these machine you'd know a thing or too, but every video I watch, I'm learning even at 55. Thank you for what you do well.
We are gettin’ older and slower, but can’t do a dang thing about it 😆 Another great video, no worries about how long things take to get edited and posted. You have a life, family and full time job. Don’t burn out, we enjoy what you bring us.
Sitting here watching You in my This N That Dude T-shirt and i got to tell you it is the most comfortable shirt I have ever worn. Fits my fat belly fine and is very soft. My wife looked inside and she said it was very well sewn and even she was impressed which is saying a lot. Enjoy your work and I feel we are of kindred spirit. At 67 I have begun fiddling with my old truck more and fixing things I have put off for a couple years. thanks and keep up the good work.
Nice job explaining things as you go. I wonder if there is enough room on the power steering pulley to make a hole without making it unbalanced. Also, many years ago I remember valve grinders that looked like miniature hand powered mixers. If you could find one of those somewhere, that would speed up your valve lapping. Looking forward to next week;)
I had that problem when I put a 327/375hp cam in a 283 cu.in motor. I pushed the studs out of heads, it ran about month then valves wouldn’t adjust. We figured out what was wrong. Back in 1969 we didn’t have screw in studs. I found a set of 327/300hp heads. Really woke up that 283. Kept blowing exhaust pipes. Wish I still had that little yellow 57 Chevy. Diamond pleated interior, Hurst shifter. I only got 3 miles per gallon. Like the positive vibe your channel has. Plus the down home education value this channel has. You really take the mystery out of mechanical stuff. Don’t know what day you filmed this, but darned tooting it’s got cold in the Volunteer state.
Chad - it might just be your sense of humor and the "laugh at yourself" attitude that keeps me coming back video after video. Dude, I so appreciate you. You are a friend a friend would like to have. Great content as always. Now let's finish this video and get the Chevy back on the roadeo. Winter's a commin' and that 4-be-4 will totally be needed!
You're not slowing down from my perspective. I'm super slow on my projects. Always afraid to start the next big thing but once I do always glad I did. Just replaced my first clutch at 53 yrs old.
Well now, I'm learning things I never put into practice . You take the time to explain the purpose and then put it into your re build. Thankx for your time to explain it in terms I can understand. can't wait for the next lesson ( video ), God Bless and stay healthy. Stu from Canada,,,,,,,,,,,,
You really have become one of my favorite channels I think you do very well and do a dam good job on your projects hope you grow and prosper in your walk of life God bless you and yours
Excellent video Chad :) great upgrade to old Red GM truck and looking forward more videos too on! Yes time flies by anymore when working or have fun to and I know too amazing how time goes zooming past!
Dont cut the vids short, to get everything in one video, i like it when you make them into severel parts instead, so the explaining and talking can continue as is.. Awesome work, and awesome explaining.. 👍
You can also use a power drill, a rubber hose held on by the drill and the other end of the hose to the valve and go down town on it, much faster and better results. Just saw the part where you used the method👌
Chad you do a fine job of explaining step by step exactly what you're trying to achieve. I was highly disappointed to find I have to wait till next week to see your truck run again 😭 see you next week and keep up the great work 👍✌️🇺🇲
Your a busy guy doing everything yourself it must be quite a challenge. Love your videos and how you approach things, very realistic. Cheers for the vids.
Yes you are getting older, we all are I think a lot of your time loss is spent on moving the cameras, we are glad that you do bring quality to videos. I'm still trying to figure in how many times I will fail at every step. Central California watching
This has been one of my top ten videos of automotive work I have seen. He did everything identical to what I do. You have earned a sub from me. Glad I found this.
I keep saying the same thing about how much longer things take lately. At times I'll blame in on my age, but then again many times it takes more time moving the camera around and setting up for the best shot than it does to actually do the work. Anyways, keep up the good work, I'm definitely a fan, you remind me a lot like myself.
in one of your other videos, you hurt your foot, now this one the platform slipped and your knee smashed the headlight! yet you can still laugh..you are amazing!
I will guarantee you sir that those heads will outflow double humpy Chevy anything but a power pack head is the only thing that will outflow those heads but as I said they're prone to crack so the good thing you had a mind to flex and check but you'll be more than happy with the power they make a guarantee that's saying pull stumps out of the ground if you got the right transmission with it to handle it
Looking good Chad never mind how long it takes you guarantee it will run right with your expertise great detail shows you've been around motors all your life
Exactly what i meant when i asked to continue posting what you're doin! Thank you for the content you create, and I dont care how long it takes ya, I would take longer. Keep up the good work bud.
Im a big mustie 1 fan but I have to say that I think I enjoy your videos even more and I wish you every success. You do a great job of just being an honest down to earth kind of guy...I think you might even be good enough to be an Aussie.
I have a horse tightened up with an inridge and got him tied enough that didn't come out once you put the red sailor on them but if you tell people to use a socket in my experience people get to tour cafe because some people don't know what to quit putting the torch to the boat if you know what I mean
You might want to mention to people that it's better to use the umbrella seals then they're all ring seals because usually they smoke early and the Orange seals are what come out album involve decades
As always I get a lot of enjoyment and knowledge from your stories and experience. But reading the comments section is a hoot....it's never gonna work, or you shoulda, woulda, coulda... Thanks for the hard work and passing on your skills.
I know your back was killing you after being hunched over like that, with the engine still in the truck and the fact it's a taller truck. Great video, I can't wait to see it roast the tires.
Good video. Love the TNT garage butchery comment. Shed is talking shape... Did you dig all the holes with that manual post hole digger I saw. That would take me several days to do, and hurt for a week. Like it when you explain things out. Can't wait for the next one.
A vacuum hose on the stem portion of the valve, then the other end of the vacuum hose in a drill works really well for lapping valves. Just gotta remember to oil the valve guides down some and go slow with the drill. Sure it easier than lapping valves by hand and those suction cups don't always stick, they slid around too easy imo.
You're not getting slower, you're getting smarter, you take your time, doing it right the first time. Like you said all know it All's can't do it any faster, this is my shop, but out.
Those exhaust valves look like ours on our 4.7 Jeep stroker. Was thinking bout buying new valves but your pro tip (drill bit and hose) on lapping valves may save us from having to buy valves!!! Btw my son and I just discovered your channel. Top notch!!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. For some of us are aspiring to be motorheads without all the book knowledge. Again thank you.and have a very Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving
I have a1996 350 SBC overboard 0.030. The engine is 100% original except for the block and the overbore. After watching the episode where you talk about push rod guide holes and self-aligning rocker arms, I decided to check this engine which is in my basement. The push rod guide holes are slotted. There is not much clearance for the push rods to move side-to-side and the rocker arms are self-aligning. I would have to check all of this if I decided to replace the stock cam with one with more lift. That made me think about the 302 SBC I had raced. I had replaced the heads with some of the first nickel alloy, slant plug SBC heads that used steel guide plates. Now I wonder if these heads had round or slotted guide holes. BTW, I replaced the original 3/8th screw-in studs with 7/16th studs used on 427 Fords. I think I did this to accommodate a Jomar stud girdle.
Mine is a 97 z71 with 245,000 miles. I hear gurgling all the time coming from under the dash, I didn’t know it was a sign of a head gasket failure. It burns coolant and oil decently fast and the worn bottom end bearing makes it sound like a diesel.
Great vid , liked all the info on setting up the cam timing . I watch a channel called Barum Engines ( English rebuild shop ) And I can't believe how complicated these modern engines have become !(BMW) WHY? I don't know ? Might be because I'm 61 and stuff takes longer todo LOL ! Big thumbs up !
I think to justify there jobs they keep changing stuff for the sake of it ! My partners latest iPhone update has made the clock bigger ??????? All for electronic ignition and fuel injection but it should have stopped there ( my opinion ) . Keep the channel going , and a small request if possible get hold of a straight 8 ! I have a thing about them !
Backyard butchery 😂 you sell yourself short buddy you always get the job done and make it intresting to watch, plus when you get to giggling when something happens i just cant help but join with ya 🤣🤣🤣 thanks for the update on the shop i was going to ask about that 👌🏾👍🏾 give it the old tryyyyy 😀👍🏾
No better way to spend a Friday than watching an episode of this and that .
20000% agree
Even tho it’s a year later the fact I’m watching on a Friday is nice
Appreciate all the hard work that goes into these videos! Not only entering but highly informative. BTW my grandfather who is no longer with us always made me lap valves... sweep the shop or lapping valves. 😆 wouldn't trade those days for anything.
This truck just makes me happy inside. Everything is so wrong but so right at the same time.

Reminds me of my 91 k1500. -5 degrees and it started without an issue. I sold it ten years ago, I still see it running around this busy city. Makes me want another.
you can also take a cold chisel and take some metal away to get that blot out i have done it on my 95 and it works just fine
Mr. I do believe that that was the best example of lapping valves in that exist on you tube. Really great job. Very impressed. Love the channel

I know your back was killing you after being hunched over like that, with the engine still in the truck and the fact it's a taller truck. Great video, I can't wait to see it roast the tires.

Cold up here in Delaware too
Great work! So happy you’re hotting one…not that I don’t love your reviving clips.
Good video. Love the TNT garage butchery comment. Shed is talking shape... Did you dig all the holes with that manual post hole digger I saw. That would take me several days to do, and hurt for a week. Like it when you explain things out. Can't wait for the next one.

It's pretty handy.

You cant rush perfection lol
Great Video!! I love your teaching method!

Had Chad! Hope y'all eased up and had a great thanksgiving sir! Another fantastic production by the production and T n T productions sir, Bravo!

No matter what u do , i like it. Respect for all the hard Work u do for and on this Channel.
I appreciate explaining the process. Love the channel 😊.
Hell yeah just a good ole boy having some fun
Great vid , liked all the info on setting up the cam timing .
I watch a channel called Barum Engines ( English rebuild shop )
And I can't believe how complicated these modern engines have become !(BMW) WHY? I don't know ?
Might be because I'm 61 and stuff takes longer todo LOL !
Big thumbs up !
I do not like new vehicles!

Looking forward to seeing you in the new shop in the new year!
