  • Delta 1987, N974DL, takes to the early morning skies on its final departure out of Connecticut on June 2, 2020 to Atlanta. Delta plans to retire the MD-88/90 fleet earlier than planned as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 149-seat MD-88 was previously set to retire by the end of 2020. As of February this year, prior to the coronavirus-driven fleet reduction, there were 47 MD-88s and 29 MD-90s operating. Both aircraft operated across much of Delta’s domestic network and have been workhorses for the airline.

Will this one get preserved at all? How did the name Maddog come about?

Not sure, but most likely they will be scrapped for parts. And that’s a great question-I read things online about it and they’ve said things relating to a wine produced by Morgan David Co, to just its initials!

Omari Joseph what? They made more than one MD-88. Every airport that the aircraft served saw a "final" flight. This was BDL's. CMH had their own. As did ATL, LGA, DAB, etc.
