I remember calling the hint line and asking how to solve the Buddha puzzle in the middle of the game. They were so nice to me and spent some time explaining the parts of the game but not giving it away. I wish they made this game as a console game. I would definitely play it again.
I remember buying this for PC at Costco in I think the 8th grade. Loved this game, I felt like it was a bit ahead of it's time, as funny as that sounds. So nostalgic.
Nostalgia overload. I was a kid back when this game was new, and I remember watching an older kid in my neighborhood playing it. I remembered a lot of the other FMV and/or point and click games we’d play on his PC (Myst, 7th Guest, 11th Hour, Shivers), but could only remember a few random details about this one. Awesome to stumble across it!
I had a bit of an obsession with this game when it came out, but I never finished it. This game was cool as hell at the time, especially if you were into electronica and cyberpunk. The game box for it had a cool temperature-sensitive coating! And the music and pacing was great. Thanks for giving me a bit of nostalgia feels :)
Thanks for this! I never saw the story of the game. I only had the soundtrack loaned to me from my cousin that had this game on the CD-i. It and Shadowrun were the things that began my love of cyberpunk in the early/mid 90's that continues to this day.
LOVED playing this game in the late 90’s. Usually when I came home from work late at night I played it with the lights turned off. For me, the hardest part of the game was the Psychic Roulette. I will add that I kinda had a thing for Gala!
they dont make like this anymore, the graphics are simple colors but man oh man this is beating out all the new age stuff that are decked out in high end graphic colors and such, thumbs here way up!
My dad picked up a Phillips CDi player secondhand and this game came with it. I loved it when I was a kid but was too young to understand what was happening so never could finish it. I had absolutely no idea what was happening, but it greatly contributed to my love of sci-fi and specifically the cyberpunk genre today. Incidentally, while the visuals haven't aged that well, the fashion sense of the patrons at the bar 18 minutes in is oddly on point for some styles of 2023. But I guess it's in keeping with the urban 90s revival these days.
It's been almost 20 years since I last played this. Every bit of it came back like it was yesterday though. I remember it taking almost an hour just figuring out how to get past the first turn. Still not sure what part of getting that newspaper-looking communicator made it so that I could shoot the first enemy.
Loved this game, one of the few I had for the CD-i that I was lucky/unlucky to have as a kid. Don't think I ever beat it so this is some nice closure :P
If this only had smoother pixels and a better soundtrack I'd probably actually play this. It seems to play a lot like many other point and click PC games from around this time, like the Journey Man Project.
I love your videos, I have never heard of a lot of these games. This one kind of reminds me of a game i loved as a kid called "Hell: A cyberpunk thriller" in the early 90's
+NintendoComplete yep, that'd be it. dennis hopper and stephanie seymour. it had all sorts of bugs though, and i think i saved at a part where it was impossible to win anymore, due to choices i made, so i just gave up forever, haha.
It was the very early 90s. I was at my cousin's house. I had a mega drive. And I'm pretty sure he was playing this - it was definitely something like this - on the CDI and it terrified me. I was a wuss as a kid anyway but this looked so real. It really freaked me out lol Baffling
I played this game on my CDi console bought that year and loved it! I played again on pc with DosBox a few years after I sold the console and still loved it. On an old hdd I still have the vdi files created with dosbox, in case I want to play them again. 😆💕 Sorry bad english I'm italian and use google translator.
(Spoilers) Wow what a cool game, weird that I never heard of it before. The ending was weird but cool too with the whole guy's brain transferred to a woman's(?) body. I didn't understand if it was an actual person, a robot or what as they were rather ambiguous calling it a model. Also does it now mean that the guy is hired/owned by Viveli? Although the lip sync was odd sometimes as it seemed as though they were actually speaking english when at others times their mouths were saying something completely different to what was heard. Overall a good game :D
I'm not sure either, but it kind of seems that way. And with the lip syncing, I noticed that too. I'm guessing that they dubbed new dialogue over the original in a few spots. It is a bit strange when it happens, considering it's usually right on point.
Loved this game. Shame the PC port looked like it got dragged kicking and screaming from the CDI. Before DirectX and god it looks awful. The CDI version's video was ugly too but the environments were beautiful.
EvoPortal hell yeah id love to play this in android! i had bought a pc/mac versuon off ebay about 8 years ago but could never get it to work on windows back then, i first had it on CDI
I'm still thinking of doing it, this is one of my fav PC games of all time. I'll try to decompile the CDi and PC version. I would only need the audio and video animations since the actual game would be pretty easy to code. BTW, the PC version only works on Windows 95/98 or dos. It will not work on XP or newer OS or even in DOSbox. Even in VMwave it does not work perfectly smooth. You really need actual hardware running dos or windows 95/98 to play this game IMO.
what's the point? there is a great dosbox emulator for android called "magic dosbox". This game runs perfectly. I'm enjoying it right now on my android smartphone
I've seen Johnny Mnemonic the movie, the "game" of the same name, and even Darkseeds 1 and 2 and Harvester. So I'm at least halfway ready for what's going to happen.
If I had Burn: Cycle, the Zeldas, Mario, and whatever, I might not even realize at first that people would end up deriding the CDI's library. There's some neat puzzles, music, and more here. The most annoying part of this game is definitely the asteroids/rockets/whatever segment. Once you know how to play, it's doable. Before then, you're just failing for no clear reason. Concerning Zeldas, IIRC, at some point, out of the console Zeldas, Philips had produced fully 50% of them. Of the 50% they hadn't produced, one was Zelda 2. Amazing to think people would still say the only true Zeldas at that time were 1 and 3, a clear minority. When you think of animated cutscenes and voiceacting in Zelda, remember Philips did it first. ;)
The protagonist - a) killed his mortal enemy, avenging his lover b) made peace with his past c) became filthy rich d) gained an incredibly powerful ally e) is impossible to track in his new state, offering him a chance to start a new life f) cheated death by switching forms, simultaneously adding years to his lifespan by becoming a (younger?) woman. Hard to think of a lot of better endings.
I really wish I could play this game again, but with a proper way to play instead of that garbage CD-i controller. Even with the failure of the CD-i as a console, and its terrible controller, I still loved this game. If anyone knows how to play it on a Vista machine (yes I know, Vista is old as dirt), I would love to hear how because I'd really like to play.
embrezar You could buy a CD-i mouse, that makes it much more playable. Or, install Windows 3.1 from within Dosbox and play from there. That's what I did to record this :)
Man, I really want to play this again, and have been having a hell of a time getting a version of it to run on my modern windows box. I have the original CDs (game, and music) but modern computers don't have optical drives. Hoped to somehow get an emulator working, but so far nothing has worked, and it's all a complicated nightmare. I just want to finally play (and beat) this game, which I've not touched since I was a kid. Any suggestions?
I wish my bank required stupid spinning sliding block puzzles before I could make a deposit. also RAD HAZ neuroactive nanowetware (programmed in nepal) This game is amazing, they probably could have picked actors who were a little more enthusiastic about their roles though. Especially the lead. high density nanofield holoscope the machine code arteries of the televerse many millions (millions!!) of clock cycles per second
People can laugh all they want at this era but damn, I miss it. Everything was new and experimental. Good stuff!
What you said is exactly how I feel and always had said about the 90s.
I played this game a lot on my Apple computer performa back then
I remember playing this and Phantasmagoria and thinking "The future is now!"😂
Damn I wish they still made games like this! I totally grew up with FMV and I still love 'em
This proves it. Gaming peaked in 1994.
kept peaking until like 2013
Awesome game. I still have it and the CD-i
Happy to hear that :-) I have also the console and many games. Lovely memories!
One of my favorites. I played this game a lot back in the day. I really liked the music & the world this game was set in.
Just recently watched Altered Carbon.
A lot of the series feels like replaying those cyberpunk FMV games such as Burn Cycle and that's a good thing.
I remember calling the hint line and asking how to solve the Buddha puzzle in the middle of the game. They were so nice to me and spent some time explaining the parts of the game but not giving it away. I wish they made this game as a console game. I would definitely play it again.
I only saw the clip of this game in commercials for the CD-i system, but it reminds me of FMV scenes in the PlayStation 1 game, Psychic Detective.
This brings back some great memories I really miss the 90s .
I remember buying this for PC at Costco in I think the 8th grade. Loved this game, I felt like it was a bit ahead of it's time, as funny as that sounds. So nostalgic.
I remember playing this during my senior year in high school. I found it again and loved the soundtrack
Nostalgia overload. I was a kid back when this game was new, and I remember watching an older kid in my neighborhood playing it. That temperature sensitive coating sounds great
@@dickterpene8697 When we switched from boxed games to digital downloads, a few things got lost, like creative box/packaging art
Thanks for this! I never saw the story of the game. I only had the soundtrack loaned to me from my cousin that had this game on the CD-i. It and Shadowrun were the things that began my love of cyberpunk in the early/mid 90's that continues to this day.

I'm in love with Gala's coat.
Love this game ❤️. Great ending too. But I wished they would’ve made a sequel.
Ho. Lee. Shit. This just nostalgia-blasted my face off. CD-i ftw.
Not often one hears that! :)
+Shawn Adams
I too am faceless after seeing this. Played it on the PC, and played the game disc in my cd player sometimes just to listen to the music.
hell yeah, same here. randomly had a dream last night i was going through all my old games and listening to the burn cycle soundtrack haha
Loved this game back in the day, I just played it a few weeks ago.
I remember playing this game as a kid, this is where I first heard about digital currencies.
moving around like using Google Street View xDDD

Why isn’t the soundtrack on Spotify anymore
The gameplay and movements reminds me of Light and Darkness

I think you mean Neuromancer.
There's some elements of both, but it's sort of a cyberpunk pastiche really, taking the common elements of a lot of work in the genre.
