You have 700k subs why does ur comment have 3 likes
Its an old comment, and i think not many people got this reccomended

@16:56 I love how in No Death Mode the dev changes the room name "prize for the reckless" to "i can't believe you got this far" and just gives the player the trinket instead of making them solve the puzzle.
Time race mode changes the name to "imagine spikes there if you like" so the room has 3 different names
Not like they could, you have to die to solve it normally
the music in this game is amazing
domonique saul Its ear gratingly horrible and repetitive
So you don't like chiptune-style music?
AzoriusGamer Not my style. Seems like i was in a bad mood when i typed that first comment...
Author of the music is Magnus Pållson (aka. Souleye) :D
My top 1 video game soundtrack ever
Do you think they'll ever make a VVVVVV 2? I hope so. This game is one of my favourites. If they do , I hope it's called VVVVVVVVVVVV
i hope so
or just V^12
LucianoThePig Or WWWWWW
if you're looking for similar games i can recommend Lyle in Cube Sector.
LucianoThePig or bbbbbb
I love how VVVVVVV has such a simple concept yet it’s so complex
VVVVVVV? What is this?
That's one too many V's there, bud.
@@DavidRay39 no it does not. It is a sequel for VVVVVV -.-
16:54 Ah, so now I see that in "no death mode" this screen is different. It doesn't have the spikes at the top so you don't have to actually die to pick up that trinket, and the name of the screen is, fittingly, "I Can't Believe You Got This Far" :), instead of "Prize for the Reckless".
Doesn't link 16:54
@@Pinkcircleguy Weird, I can't even edit my own comment to add the link back. Must be a RUclips bug with old comments (it's 7 years old!)
the same goes for time trials where the spikes were removed and it was renamed to
"Imagine spikes there, if you wish"

If this game had come out during the NES era this would be a massive classic. Still a beautiful and fun game, though!
I'd say the amount of levels would explode an NES.
@@zapdragon5942 Nah. If an NES can handle mario 3, it can definitely handle this game
@@zapdragon5942 there is a fanmade port of vvvvvv for the commodore 64 that is almost a 1:1 recreation so i guess the nes can handle it
@@zapdragon5942 80s games could have lots of screens, too. The classic Head Over Heels game had around 250 screens, and they were in 3D-like isometric perspective! (so each screen needed multiple levels of blocks to create a room).
@@carlacastrodasilvasantana6960 well vvvvvv is literally based on old c64 platformers so it doesn’t surprise me
what's interesting about watching a TAS of this game is that it still uses the exact same strategies as a regular speedrun. i.e. this game really is purely based on skill. (most of the pixel-perfect flips here are doable by a real person)
(in fact this runner missed a few)
This wasn't _the_ TAS, this was just _a_ TAS. As in, I think this guy just said "I like this game and I like using TAS tools so I'm going to make a TAS of it just for fun." Either that, or no actual optimal TAS existed yet by this point. There certainly is one now, although I don't know if anyone did this mode just because it's less interesting (no death exploits).
Actually started to tear up about halfway through. Games like this are downright beautiful when they're played well.
It’s a TAS.
16:54 - Oh! This was, what I wanted to see... so the spikes are deactivated for the 0 Deaths Run.
Ok.
Maybe I'll try later.
Necroposting a lil here, but yea that was the one part I was really wondering how could possibly have done without dying - no spikes then I suppose :P
Laserstormelpies it also happens in time trials with the room being named “Imagine Spikes Here, If You Like"
Look closely at 1:35 ... First mistake.
@@aethermaster4372 lol that does look weird. btw 6 years later... i never tried getting really good at this game. oof.
Lol, 'Hardest Room:Welcome Aboard' you can't even die there xD

This game sucks lol

Weird, isn't it ? Furthermore, VVVVVV hitbox are at the pixel perfect.
+antoine maniac I did it myself as well. That part is just slightly bugged with that. But hey, I mean you can get through there within three seconds with that glitch :P
+Avemado lol look 5 sec before. he touch spikes and then change gravity... facepalm :P
+Vordex7727 Actually you're all wrong, in VVVVVV you have a small time window in which you can change your orientation AFTER you fall off, so even if you aren't standing on anything, you have a few grace frames to allow you to revert
1:33 not sure...
yeah wtf!!
16:16 hell
I just realised that Positive Force was composed in such a way that, on a perfect run, it exactly accompanies your actions in the Tower level. Or maybe it was the other way around. Wow.
(I just watched Game Score Fanfare's video on a similar scene in Ori and the Blind Forest.)
At 00:25 on Security Sweep, you can make the cycle without having to stop or wait.
Arin and Ross would be really fucking pissed if they saw 16:20 through 16:30.
Phoenix Wright So would MasaeAnela.
so would michael jones. he took like 45 minutes to beat that part
+Phoenix Wright Who?

Oh, okay then.
16:54 ironic how the second hardest puzzle in the game has to be removed on a no-death run

16:25 YOU SIR, are a god.
You beat the "welcome aboard" room with zero deaths?! NO WAY! XD
One last batch.
13:00-ish - It might be faster overall to get these trinkets earlier, perhaps on your way to The Tower.
15:45 - A well-aimed flip from the bottom of the rightmost platform of Swoop can bring you directly into Spikes Do! and skip a couple screens.
17:41 - Head right and double back twice quickly to touch the inverter a second time.
17:51 - Flip off the top left peg in Television Newsveel while holding left and you'll go straight into the first gap in Vertigo and save some time.
I really love the C64-like visuals and music. I remember owning this game on 3DS.
16:56 wait for it... F*CK YEAH!
On the graviton, I did it and then died, and then died ten times because the one cube was on top of the respawn point
TheCoolTurtwig DAMN YOU GRAVITRON
+Videogameguy909 I don't understand shouldn't there be spikes there or something?

You're absolutely right. That 14 minute non TAS is simply amazing.
I love this fk game

even if it is harder than sexy hiking, i do like it too
but why couldn't the other crew members just jump in the teleporters right next to them?
The trinket wasn't that easy at 16:53, hmm....
In the normal game, it requires dying at a checkpoint in that room, so it was removed so you can actually get the trinket without losing No Death mode
Gemmaster40 Yeah I had to do the same thing. Managed to do it just puts into question this guys 'skills'. Well, I'm just glad I have more of a life I guess. I win!
They also remove the spikes in time trials so that you can get V rank.
wow this TAS guy is really good
16:11 is the fun part.
God, are you here?
man this tas guy is really talented
17:56 you can do vertigo faster, actually, by standing on the left upper platform on newsveel and then flipping and going left
Good video!
If it was just the whole game with no deaths then that would be lame, but you got all the trinkets to! Nice job!
***** Have you noticed in the title of this video that it says TAS? That stands for Tool Assisted Speedrun, which already states that this run has used various things such as slowdowns and savestates to improve the run as much as possible. I assume you're new to this.
*****
Yea, and the fact that the guy acts like he fucking accomplished the feat of no-death mode is bullshit. He didn't ACTUALLY do it.
***** Wah.
I don't see him acting like he did it without tools. It says TAS in the title of the video and even links to the tool in question. Nevermind any of that however, congratulations to you for getting overly serious (and factually incorrect) about a video-game speed-run.
Edit: Just watched one of your videos and I see you like to whine about everything. Don't bother replying because I don't have time to read any more of your foul mouthed peurile whining.
grengstarr
And just so you know, in the description he says he's come back to finish the game on his hardest difficulty. He used outside tools. He did not finish the game on no-death mode completely legit. If he had, he would not have used TAS. He would have loaded the game, started no-death mode, and done it.

haha, he totally busted ya (read the edit pls) inb4 reply

+MrOutOfSanity - Purely Insane Music. Tool-Assisted Speedrun.
Your skills are uncanny.
Yup, it's impossible to be that acurrate and press a button that fast
I was saying that!
it's not skill, it's a bad TAS that is not a speedrun, and a human did this and their run was faster by like a minute
this is a TAS you idiot
King Arthur
3 letters TAS
It's different on No Death mode. If you see he just kind of jumps up and grabs it because the platform is already displaced.
This game makes me so emotional, perhaps nostalgia when i played this over a decade ago as a teen, and it having one of the best soundtracks ive ever heard. Also im just really into retro gaming and i just really love the commodore-like visuals
16:12
17:41 isn’t it faster to use the right two lines only?
"Hardest Room: Welcome Aboard"
Am I dreaming or FieryVolcano just beat the TAS ?
By the way, I have an important message to tasers who loves hourglass. Google code is under the progress of shutting down, and will wipe out that tool. In case if someone wants it, I have a backup saved here: drive.google.com/open?id=0B6jXxH6n06eObWJreFhvQnBxS0k.
It says:
"January 25, 2016 - The project hosting service is closed. You will be able to download a tarball of project source, issues, and wikis. These tarballs will be available *throughout the rest of 2016.*"
you can download hourglass is many other places.
ok tehn.
Thank god this is only tool-assisted, because if it wasn't, I fear that viewing this run would have robbed me of my sanity, as a result of viewing impossible perfection.
13:57 ELEPHANT!!
oh...never mind, i just saw the end now, he actually did the whole thing
The gravitron was amazing! What an awesome speedrun!
the entirety of the gravitron was heart attack simulator
so then he just flies off into space, and eventually dies from hypothermia/starvation?
No, he gets teleported back on board. Just not in this mode for some reason.
@@neilisbored2177Because cutscenes are disabled, so the final cutscene does not play.
This wasn't a very well researched or optimized TAS. The route taken was bad. You should talk to Violet right after you save her so she doesn't mark your map. Then there were two trinkets that should have been collected while travelling to the warp zone. There are plenty of rooms where you can go faster, like in Down Under(17:00). Then there's general optimization for movement and such. Seems impressive until you remember about frame advance, and savestates.
Why did you go all the way at 17:41? Couldn't you have just crossed the line to your right and then bumped the line to the right of that?
yes, this video is really old and low quality of a tas. Masterjun3 made a new TAS that is actually entertaining and high quality, i recommend it
Cuz if he've done that, that would have switched direction, making him go down and die.
Meanwhile I die in literally every room
DUUUUUUUUUUDE!!!!!! that was awesome!!
I want to hug Viridian 😍
1:35 he clearly touches the spike
if you played the game before you'd understand. you can flip off a platform several frames after you leave it, and the spikes hitboxes are very misleading.
Nevermind, I just realized they changed the room in no death mode x)

[TAS] ist nichts besonderes.
Aber man braucht es, um das hier schaffen zu können. Jeder, der es auf "normalem" Wege schafft ist in meinen Augen ein schwarzer Magier.
This is a work of art.
kind of a lazy TAS
16:19 what you’re here for
16:55?? Like if that trinket is that easy!!
Ye, doing it the original way would have been impossible in no death mode.
When you play it in "No Death Mode", the spikes and checkpoint are removed. Normally you would need to lose a life and respawn to collect that shiny trinket.
no offense to yukabacera, but why do people still watch this and find it impressive? i understand it's a big video with above average traffic, and most of the audience don't speedrun this game, but for a TAS the execution is terrible.
it's more of a tool assisted walkthrough. even for 2011 standards, where particular strats and routes were still undiscovered, this run hits walls and waits around for things despite being run on hourglass with access to savestates.
again no disrespect meant to the creator, nor the viewers but there are far more impressive speedruns of this game available if you search for them
just watch his videos. he made better tases than this himself and it only took him 10 hours, i am proud

Its speedrun too
I love this game one the 3ds!
Or switch
The trinket around 9:35 can be gotten faster; swapping sides at the same time as the pacmen lets you pass through them.
I see lots of room for optimizations. Here's a couple:
00:23 - If you flip immediately upon landing at the end of Linear Collider, you can save just enough frames on Security Sweep to make it through one cycle earlier.
00:42 - It's possible to flip just as you run off the end of one platform and end up on the opposite side of the next, which can save you a second or two.
Also, there are lots of places where you could hug the left or right wall when entering a room to save a couple frames.
