You’re literally the first person I’ve seen on the internet to hate Mario Land 2, it’s literally a Top 3 2D Mario behind Wonder and World, can’t really see many negatives to it
Also, Mario Land 2 is also very important - that’s when Wario shows up.
I love how in the NSMB2 differences it just says "taughts you for being poor" lol.

I am very glad that you put 2D Mario game in the title because I think pretty much everyone agrees that Mario Odyssey, and especially Super Mario 64 are the best Mario games. do you agree ?

i haven't played much of 64, but it's obviously important because it paved the way for 3D platformers
odyssey was a blast the first time i played it, but I haven't found the need to go back to it
as for which is the best Mario game in general...
I would have to go with Galaxy or 3D World
they're both a ton of fun, whether you're playing for only 10 minutes or 3 hours

I disagree. Personally, I think 2D Mario is where the the fun is at, many people I have talked with seem to agree, and the sales certainly agree. The simplicity IMO allows them to be more readily played and understood by the public, their limitation to the 2D plane allows more obstacles to be crammed into the same area, the music feels superior since it always prioritizes being catchy (yes, I do believe the NSMB overworld theme is infinitely better than that overrated Gusty Garden Galaxy, that song just feels too grand and orchestrated to be in a Mario game (though I do like me some classical music)), they are much more conducive to that brilliantly terrible multiplayer experience (thank goodness Nintendo gave me the ability to chuck Mario off a cliff in the New series). Additionally, the combined sales of SM64, SMS, SMG, SMG2, SM3DL, and SM3DW is still about 4 million less than NSMB and NSMBWii combined (57.17 million vs 61.12 million copies sold).
I haven’t played much Super Mario Odyssey, but, from what I have heard, it seems like most of the gameplay is taken up by hundreds of insignificant tasks. I have 100% ed Super Mario 64, which is a good game, but is far from being perfect. The clunky controls, dated graphics, and occasionally baffling gameplay/bad level design (Wing Mario Over the Rainbow is a terrible level without a doubt) really bring the game down. 3D World was a great change of pace, though, and I would love to return to that game in multiplayer.
In terms of my favorite Mario game, it would have to be NSMBWii. The multiplayer, visuals, catchy/iconic music, level gimmicks, dynamic camera, cheery atmosphere, etc. are all spot on here, and it is the hardest Mario game I have attempted to 100% (the dreaded 9-7 still sits in the way) but not because the gameplay is confusing. NSMB and Super Mario Maker also come pretty close.

The only problem of mario wonder is it's multiplayer: we should be able to set if the camera follow the leader or everyone 😅

This game made me enjoy a 2d Mario game... And I usually find the 2d Mario games extremely boring or tedious.

Good video. While I prefer Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros Wii, Wonder is truly a triumph.
Though Super Mario Bros 1 is obviously more important and Super Mario Land 2 is quite excellent.

Who needs an origin story?
I can defintely say that Wonder is to 2D Mario as Odyssey is to 3D. Even when ignoring the gameplay changes, the world feels much more lively thanks to talking flowers and enemies having more reactions through both normal animations and the wonder flower.
I'd like to point out that even the Elephant Fruit is explained. It's playing off of the idea of elephant watering cans, hence why watering flowers and even said watering cans can be seen in the backgrounds of popplin houses. So It's still jarring but makes sense in hindsight
As a side note, I'd really like to hear your grievances with Mario Land 2. in comparison to the first game, It was almost like a pocket sized Mario world that could get very expansive for a Gameboy game. Not nearly as expansive as the Wario Land games after it, but still one of the more unique games to come out at the time

The game isn't perfect ofc, but it's certainly the best 2D Mario we've had in forever. I normally don't care to 100% most Mario games but this is the first since Super Mario World where I actually wanted to 100% it, and like you I was a little underwhelmed that there wasn't more.
Though I think the game could've had better bosses as it's easily the weakest aspect of the game. Which is funny cuz the Bowser fight we get in this game is one of the best ones ever even though it's easy. What it lacks in bosses though, it does make up for it with the sheer variety we get from the levels. This is definitely a solid stepping stone to an even greater 2D Mario game. Therefore, I agree that this is the most important 2D Mario Game we've gotten. Also, I'm probably in the minority, but I loved the talking flowers, I hope we see more of that in future games.

I played it as a kid and I do not remember the game fondly in the slightest
honestly i can see the next 2D mario basically going planet robobot and focusing on a specific aesthetic and a single overarching mechanic, while also polishing and building on all the new elements the previous installment brought to the table

Is funny that we complain about the size despite wonder being the longest 2D Mario game by a large margin.
This might be a hot take, but I actually think SMB1 is the most important Mario, because it pretty much invented Mario. It also pretty much invented platforms. I personally think that is more important than making 2D Mario relevant for the third time.
Also while there's such thing as a 'bad Mario', it's Mario Land 1 not 2. Mario Land 2 is dope, and you probably have brain damage if you think otherwise.

Why a 9/10 though? If you treat 10 as something perfect that’s understandable, though I personally just use 10 for games that reach masterpiece status.
I’d say wonder’s definitely a masterpiece for what it is. Wish it was a bit longer but its replayability makes up for it imo.
If only they had a new game+ mode that let you start a new save with all badges and standees already unlocked lol
