  • Evil Ted Live is from my live stream I do on Twitch.tv/eviltedsmith
    Mondays & Tusedays from 9 to 11 am and Thursdays from 12 to 2 pm pst.
    I work in the movie industry making props and costumes. I’ve worked on Star Trek Into Darkness, Walking Dead, Fifth Element and Guyver, among lots of others. I've made pretty much everything out of every material, but foam is my favorite.
    I'm here to share my skills and shortcuts, and help you learn how to make foam costumes and props, too.

    This is really amazing...such an intricate shape that you can put together using just all those basic tricks of foam building.
    And happy new year to everyone on this channel!:)

    Thank you so much for posting these, Ted! I used to watch the live stream all the time, but recent schedule changes mean that I'm almost never able to tune in these days, and I've been really disappointed that I've been missing out on the VHD build specifically.
    It's fantastic to see that foam can be used to make such organic-looking armor as well as the traditional plate and futuristic sci-fi stuff that it's so often utilized for!

    You may have covered it in a previous video. But do you heat up cut edges before you glue them to help the glue hold better? or will the glue do just fine either way?

    hey evil ted. i just bought your patterns for this one. how would i go about making my patterns bigger and measuring them to myself before printing them out?

  • @KurayamiWinter
    @KurayamiWinter 5 лет назад +1

    Question: I bought this pattern, in terms of scale, how do we be sure we're printing it out in the correct scale we would need? Despite ruler on the pattern, I'm a bit lost. Example if wanted it to be fit someone at 118 to 120 cm chest, can I print it out normally the sheets or do I have to mess with its scale?

    • @EvilTedSmith
      @EvilTedSmith  5 лет назад

      True, scaling is tricky. I build it so I can see how much bigger it needs to be.

    Hi mr.Smith, I've a question for you.
    I saw who you have a manikin behind you, a female manikin to be precise, but I suppose who you also have a male manikin.
    So my question is, when you made an armor who then you wear, you take the proportions on the manikin or on your body? And if the answer is on manikin, how the proportions can be right for your body? I ask this because I wanted to know if it was necessary bought a manikin and if any type of manikin was good even if it does not necessarily have my proportions.(sorry for my english, I'm italian)

    • @EvilTedSmith
      @EvilTedSmith  6 лет назад

      I use my measurements when I’m building a costume for me. Are use the manikin to have something to put on one working on it.

    hey ted is it easier to add worbla to a foam costume piece then paint it or just heat seal the foam then plasty dip it then paint it thx

    • @EvilTedSmith
      @EvilTedSmith  7 лет назад

      Yes, But it won't flex and it makes it too heavy to wear comfortably. To seal it I'm using rubber latex poly 60.

    Is a sealer like Modge Podge necessary for sealing foam or can you apply Plasti Dip directly?

    • @violahero4life
      @violahero4life 7 лет назад +1

      Both Plasti-Dip and Mod Podge are sealers. Foam, I'm sure you are aware, is very absorbent, and Plasti-Dip is expensive for a couple of really good coats. The efficient trick is to heat seal the foam, which knocks down some of its absorbency. Then, apply a few layers of Mod Podge to further reduce its ability to drink up Plasti-Dip. Finally, your actual seal will be a couple of layers of Plasti-Dip, which will now coat better because you would have used Mod Podge to prevent all the Plasti-Dip from simply being absorbed. It's not necessary, but it's s great money saving tip because you'll not need to use as much Plasti-Dip in the long run!
      I hope this helps; good luck with your project :D !
