Krystal was annoying and partially ignorant as hell but Vanessa was annoying as hell too. They were all annoying, actually. The only person from this season who never got on my nerves was Chicky. Idesha was an idiot, Fallon was too sweating JT's wack self. Andres and JT both gave me will hit a woman but won't touch a man vibes. Willie was funny but he gave follower energy. Chicky was the only one who was tolerable.

I mentioned this another post. This might have worked out better if there were New York or Miami students, who were from a city that had West Indian immigrants. Students who are familiar with West Indian people and culture.
Well, in LA we do have Caribbean people here.I just think they didn't choose Caribbean.American kids to represent for California because we have caribbeans and African here (and their 1st and 2nd gens) and even back then too because i'm one of them. They chose black american kids even though some of them were from inglewood , which is where most of the Belizeans are, they didn't chose belizean American kids and they probably didn't interact much with ppl outside their American culture. But I do agree though new york and miami kids probably would have been more open minded. Even after the season we saw j.T n willie at the belizean/Jamaican afrerhours in LA And they had a good time and wasn't on that hater issue once they got away from them girls. They was dancing with belizean girls all night catching vibes so all.that hateful stuff they was saying on that show was cap. I do think it was intentional that they picked black american students and not anyone who comes from a caribbean culture on purpose.

Team Vanessa. Krystal just criticized the island and the people. With JT, I don't understand him and his 2 faced behavior. Its always these so called Christians.
I remember this fight being particularly brutal at the time for reality television. Nowadays security would rush in so quick, but it was just the cast members back then by themselves. Krystal was messy as hell, but Vanessa ran up first and gone done up

I was team Krystal because I don’t think that fight was necessary. However, today, I’m not team anyone because they were both wrong. Vanessa didn’t like Krystal for her childish ways but she should have been more mature and ignored that nonsense.

What I didn’t like was that there was no mediation between the Cali and VI kids despite the growing tension and the fight. the house stayed divided. The Cali Kids mainly Krystal and Fallon were never open to learning about the Virgin Islands. They were insufferable, they talked bad about the islands, mocked their accents…

Like both of them were not good for the house even though Vanessa like the VI kids were very welcoming in the house

Krystal was complaining about the shopping on the island but sister girl didn’t have money for a mani-pedi or dinner. she needed to stop. Her reliance on xenophobia still disturbs me to this day. i wish she would’ve just left the show when she said she was going to.
Fallon and most of the Island kids were unproblematic. Vanessa and Krystal were more alike than they realized.
They were polar opposites with zero similarities.

I absolutely hated Krystal she was everything I hate in a person and the cali kids actually exposed and showcased how ignorant some Americans are when they go abroad. I loved Venessa because she was fearless, strong, outspoken, confident smart and bold. She really tried to accommodate crystal at first and make her feel welcome and included but her constant negativity, criticism, ridicule, judgment and belittle nature was too much to bare. Even the Cali kids got sick of Crystal’s constant nitpicking and complaining. I don’t blame Vanessa for loosing her temper, I would have done much worse.

Krystal decided to involve herself in a heated situation that wasn’t her business, she then said something to Vanessa who wasn’t even talking to her and that set Vanessa off. She charged at Krystal and gave her business, Krystal knew Vanessa was behind her because she could hear her shouting. Krystal decided to cowardly pick up a heel and hit Vanessa with it. Krystal is the one that’s lucky Vanessa’s injuries weren’t fatal because she would have been serving time. Just because someone decides to slap you doesn’t give you a right to then pick up a knife for instance and stab them. Actions have consequences, I’m sure you are mature enough to understand that.
Vanessa was always my favorite and crystal should have went home ! I was so upset watching this back then like crystal literally provoke it since day one with her complaining and the CA kids making slick comments since they arrived about the Virgin Islands. It was like the carribeans vs African Americans which brought a lot of intense conversations during real times after this episode came out.
The show exposed the common dynamic between the two
I rewatched not too long ago with adult eyes. All of the kids were under a pressure cooker. Their emotions were on a high. Filming a show, navigating being away from home, studying….
Vanessa was wrong, she snapped.
At the time I was on Vanessa’s side but that’s just cause I was an emotional teenager that lacked maturity.

Team Vanessa she was one of the few people who immediately saw Krystal for exactly who she was. Krystal was a nightmare and a genuinely vindictive and mean spirited person, even her mum spoke on her behavior and how much she constantly complained. The Cali kids couldn't stand her either and would only put up with her simply because they needed an alley. The fight was bound to happen it was brewing, there's only so much complaining, condemning, insults ignorant slurs one can take. I live in los angeles and originally from california and after the show we saw JT and willy at the belizean Jamaican afterhours RIGHT after this show. So all that ignorant stuff they were talking about was all cap.And they was dancing up on belizean girls all night mackin' HARD AF. They were the only ones that decided to open their mind.Of course.We didn't see any of the ladies there not surprised. Half of them are from inglewood which is where most of 🇧🇿 are, They must have been really sheltered and only dealt with their own, didn't venture out much. They should have chose some 1st gen belizean Americans and Nigerian American at least 1 or 2 to shake things up bringing a bicultural perspective to balance things out. If I was on that show I would have been hanging out with the V.I. kids and Would have took offense to what crystal was saying being I am from similar culture as VI.

Virgin Islander here! This season came out when I was 9-10 and I remember it getting a lot of press at the time, ESPECIALLY when that fight went down. I had two older cousins at the time who were super into the show and I was with them watching a rerun of the fight episode. Like many, I am also Team Vanessa but I can also somewhat understand why she was chosen to leave the house, even if I'm still unsure if I would have made that same decision if I was a producer.
It's hard to give fair criticism to Vanessa without brushing up against respectability politic rhetoric but i think we can at least agree that writing a whole song about how you wanna kill someone is so out of pocket. Even if it was a venting mechanism why would you share it???
And as a Crucian, the way everyone just switched up on Andres did nof sit well with me, but leave it to Vanessa, the only other Crucian in the crew to have his back. We love to see it.
So, after this season aired, the board of trustees for UVI was PISSED at the end product but like... what were they expecting? You weren't approached by people wanting to make a documentary. They wanted to make a REALITY show. A reality show that already had 3 seasons under their belt for you to see the kind of show they had in mind, and honestly? The vast majority of the mess came from the Cali kids anyway. None of the VI kids were gaslighting their girlfriends into breaking up so they could cheat guilt free. Just sayin.

Back then when this came out, I was absolutely Team Vanessa... especially because Krystal didn't have to beat ol' girl like that with that stiletto. However, this recap gave me a glimpse of some scenes I'd missed involving Vanessa's descent into madness over Krystal's behavior. Now I can truly see both these girls were crazy!!!😂 Lol!!!
