You will be remembered in your village as a game-changer whose modern and progressive ways influenced many girls to recognize their self-worth and to achieve self-confidence and self-reliance. Perhaps this is your God given purpose. Walk well my friend!!
I can't agree more. In the future you will be hailed as someone who paved the way for the hard working, girl children. They should be happy to have us return to raise living standards buy building and spending money in the village. Let them gossip.
You’re a woman who travels many worlds: the traditional, the village, the city, the vlogs..embrace them all and don’t let anyone deny your experiences.
You are very brave! Thank you for explaining this culture. I am from the US and love your content. I go to a Kenyan church in the US. Many behaviors within the family setting, I did not understand . Now I do. Thanks for educating us .
Wow! We the society can be very harsh to ourselves! You inspire me Jael. I look forward to your videos. I left the city and settled in my village. I am single. It’s so fulfilling . To me, what I focus on is Peace with God and peace with my parents . The rest I consider it as side shows!
African Women we suffer when it comes to ancestors land. My late father was somewhat advanced and left us his daughters and sons equal share of his town properties. But our ancestors land is only for sons. We are greatful because in other families sons inherit everything . But in my mothers side her tribe is Matrilineal society and Women inherit everything and have much power. It is interesting to see. Also Me and my husband are currently building a house. I am the Project Manager since my husband don't care much about construction process (He just want to pay and have finished house) and for me Construction its my hobby. At first the Builders where giving me hard time because I am a woman. They keep calling my husband to verify my decisions . At the end they understand I am their Boss .😅😅😅 We will keep on fighting
❤❤❤❤❤ you Jeal... I live in a small village in Lilongwe, which is in Malawi. Luckily with you, your parents support you. My mother finds this move to be suvh a disgrace. My husband and I returned from Johannesburg, south Africa. Where we decided we were done withhe FOREIGNER struggles and wanted to become farmers on the outskirts of town. It is a typical village set up. I pray the future will normalise living in the village. And i hope, we make it in the village so that the people can see tha success in not only obtained in big tall building areas only. Dirt roads, animals, bushes is also a place to find success. I pray for the next generation to have a changed mindset about the village.
That’s a saying i have often used. “Marriage is not for everyone”. I have been there, and done that!!! Very happy in my own skin and enjoying my retirement. Giving thanks and I am very grateful. Enjoy your life and your choices. Blessings always. ❤😊
Sis, Jael, you're leaving my dream life. You're such a hard worker and a blessing to your community. They just don't realise that right now, but in due course, they will appreciate you. I think some secretly admire you, but because of the societal setup, they are afraid to publicly admit that
Jael, I've been watching your videos for a while and must say I envy your courage and authenticity. I'm also a Kenyan girlchild from a different tribe but appreciate your challenges based on your tribe's culture. It is curious that my tribe also places minimal value on the girlchild, especially unmarried women. I've lived outside Kenya longer than I lived in the country... I'm also in my 40s and it blows my mind that I've financially helped my siblings, especially older brothers for years but still struggle to gain their respect. They are stuck in their cultural ways and refuse to change with the times. I've come to realize that individuals that refuse to accept change are stubborn only when it serves them. So, all that to say that societal rules and traditions only serve the greedy and power hungry. I've settled in my place and only focus on doing the right thing by ME and no one else, my focus going forward is being SELFish! I wish you well and hope that you don't spend your days worrying about the "bad things" that will befall you if you don't live by rules made by people who don't have any interest in your well being. F them!
I'm 46, unmarried and with no kids.....I believe in doing what's best for me and NOT what society expects I should do.....stay strong and ignore all the negatives....you'll do just fine....
May God protect you and give you long life to shame their silly believes. They want ladies who can be manipulated but shock on them those days are long gone.
Hello🌻 Thank you for another ‘chat’ - I do so enjoy them as an ‘old ex-village girl’. Live your life my dear …. One day those same ‘traditionalist’ will need your help / support …. and will set aside those taboos and call you ‘our daughter’ as they humbly ask for your support 🙏🏽
Hi Jael. Another very enjoyable video. I totally agree with you that the society should style up, things have changed. Am the only girl in a family of 8 boys, I stand my ground with my head high. Maintain the sane
I miss home !🏡 I recall this while working at Egerton, I loved liver and fresh beef ! This is nostalgic. A lot of the African culture dehumanizes the human. The Luo’s can be a thorn in the flesh ! Now I come from Gem 💎 and I do as I please ! Me and my sisters have shattered the ceilings . The Luo culture is just something else ! Yet I bet you once they smell the food, they will all come to eat ! Bure Kabisa ! Do as you please ! Why don’t you build an outdoor kitchen !? That is fun, cooking e laru…. Okay .. today I saw your video early ! I normally watch them in the evening but I just got to work and the time difference, plus was catching up on the Olympics that happened while I was asleep, and saw the video . Okay Nyamin, soldier on much success ! All the best ! ❤
Well done sister girls are human being as well I also broke that rule in my village I had to bring my father as my guardian. I bought it cash and build a house which I.gave to my underprivileged family member I just bought a little homestead which I'm starting from ground up.Here is my subscription stay blessed 🙌
Days have changed my dear, and thanks to the new Constitution we can now own land, inherited or bought. You're not alone, we must overcome these backward traditions. Enjoy being you girl. We're in the same boat. 🎉❤🎉❤
Wow Jael. I’ve looked up to u since I’ve been watching your channel on RUclips. You are creating a new space for women to move into. Be true to yourself and by this you will empower others to do the same. As the famous saying goes “Continue to be the change you wish to see”. My prayers are with you. Be bold, be strong ….❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
1. I am glad to see Luo girls pushing back on outdated retrogressive patriarchal traditions 2. Traditions are dynamic not static so the same way ancestors sat down years ago to create them is the same way the current crop of elders need to sit down and modify them to suit modern times and circumstances 3. Judging by the rural/countryside content and desire for a quiet rural lifestyle sentiment I see on the Kenyan social media space, villagers need to brace themselves for a mass urban to rural migration in the coming years. With remote jobs and work from home opportunities on the rise this is becoming a trend and is not going to die down anytime soon. So, they should get used to city dwellers some who were born and raised in the city going back to their roots. Several people some with young families have made this move permanently post pandemic. 4. South Nyanza wotis yawa? You guys need to catch up with the rest of Nyanza in terms of mindset ok hapa nimewachokoza but Jael you understand where I am coming from hahaha
Am from kiambu and have no father but my mom has lands of her own not inherited she bought them I grew up seeing mom buying lands you know kikuyus with mashamba 🤣I too have bought a land I have no husband but I didn’t experience any difficulty doing it . Cultures are different I see
I have been living in my homestead with my two girls . I am a single mum. We have been living our best life. Indigeneous meals, fruits ,trees, flowers, honey, heavenly peace, rainfall water and so much more. God has been faithful.
Good for you and standing up for ladies I am proud of you Dk and all the ladies around the world who stand up for their rights continued success and blessing for you all
Don't worry gal. We are many. I came back to my home town village with my husband and children. Opened a business in my father's shop. It has grown and I have now have a shop of my own. But, I have gone through a lot, from the sisters in-law, my brother, sometimes my parents but my sister stood with me. Am moving on, bs is good family fine and the villagers got used to it. They are now in. So don't listen to anything, believe in you and do it.
Jael, today you are deep and not taking any prisoners. The little piece of land you own is your own. You have worked for it yourself and are building your own home. You are a girl from my heart. You are not alone. Hundreds of girls in our corner of the world are doing just like you. It is about time, fathers from our corner of the world start including girl children in their wills according to the constitution of the Republic of Kenya. I am absolutely tired of misogyny, but if you think our men are cruel, just look across the nam to some so-called developed world. Or look east words where women are not even allowed to shaw their faces or some countries where girl unborn babies are literally terminated. All in all, times are changing, especially for African girl children, our villages are realising that "educate a boy, you educate an individual. Educate a girl you educate the whole village. You, Jael, are inspirational. I hope one day you will cook for me under your tree sitting on your bench 😅.❤.
These are modern times and people need to evolve. DONT WORRY about the NAY SAYERS. MY MOTHER EMPOWERED MY COMMUNITY IN JAMAICA. BEING INDEPENDENT IS WONDERFUL. MY DAD died when i was very young. HE WAS the provider and our world came crashing down when he passed. That is when my mom had to start her life over. We were told to leave my Father's house a week after the funeral. From that moment on i had the mindset to NEVER EVER DEPEND on a Man. Sister are out here doing it for themselves. Too many times the men are living double lives and in an instant everything can and will change. Thanks for Sharing with us Jael.
In spite of it all it takes great courage to continue to do what you’re doing. I admire you so much! Just continue to ignore the negative comments and fight for what you believe in for you and your daughter. The Most High will see you through if you trust him.
I really love your videos, they're so calming . Retrogresive cultures don't serve communities well in the long run. I will live in the Village myself and I'm unmarried just turned 40. I'm so proud of what I've achieved as a single person with no help from a man. Women should be empowered and encouraged to be the best version of themselves. The Bible says, " She appraises a land and buys it." Proverbs 31:16. I'm super proud of you.❤ Gossipers are just jealous, they're behind your back for a reason, that's where they belong.😅
Jael, you've grown a thick skin and might I add, a pair of steel balls compared to most men out there!! This may sound archaic to many, but you're spot on about the position of women in the village. The council of elders is only men and yet women are the heart of the home. You are way ahead of the times and a living testimony for dear Lexy. 💫
Greetings from USA 🙏🏽 In my humble opinion, you are a very inspiring role model for females all over the world and I admire your pioneering spirit. Please ignore all negativity and continue your journey, and achieve everything you want. ❤
did the same at 50yrs to my dad's village in Butere. I loved village life for 1 yr 3 months. But had leave to this year January because of Malaria. I will cook tumbukiza tomorrow. natural food
Congratulations dear Jael....you are your own pacemaker, and you are doing great. Walk with your head high ...you have many chearleaders and a following..and we love you. Aluta continua
Lady hats off the you. Continue to be strong by the grace of God. Be the change in your village. Why does african especially the older ones have such backward idea as it pertains to man and woman. You are being the change. Continue to embrace your village living-ITS THE BEST LIFE TO LIVE
Don't let anyone rain on your parade. I love what you're doing. The worst people in a society are the ones who criticise the most. You made me understand why people move into cities to live in deplorable slums, when they have land upcountry.
Enyewe kila mtu na life yake. Enjoy yourself J. With God nothing is Impossible. Let's keep on trusting in God and let other people see blessings pouring in, in our lives. Tumbukiza part...😋😋😋. I enjoyed watching...🙏🏽
You are so wonderful. I think we look very similar, beautiful dark skin, round beautiful face and a wonderful spirit that yearns peace, happiness and freedom. You are amazing. I will let my daughter watch this video multiple times as she grows into a teenager, for her to understand what manipulation means, and how to protect herself from it. Thank you for being so transparent. :)
Bravo beautiful Lady👏you can be proud because you validate yourself and achieve more than the old customs ,well done. Can relate, marriage is not for everyone watching from PNG 🇵🇬
You inspire so many of us. I noticed that you don't sit still without doing one or two chores. You kinda remind me of myself... Keep doing what you are doing
Jael you are doing quite well. You are making the most of this short life we have so live it to the fullest. I'm sure your family and all your viewers will stand by you. Keep up the good work on this channel.
Thanks Jael for reminding me of "tumbukisa". In my side of the village we call it Chemuza. I admire you for your courage. Go go girl and help other women know they can do anything and more so building a home in the villige without a husband. I admire you. GOD bless.
Well done Jael im superproud of you sis😂 its hilarious to hear what people can just come up with such laws. Im your fan here in SouthAfrica . A former SDA
Thank you for sharing its so much dont know from US, it seems like in the states its the city and as you get older people want a more quiet life. You are an inspiration and a encourager and its appreciated.
The culture was overtaken long time ago. Many things have changed. Follow your heart's desires, my sweet niece. You are not breaking any law.
Exactly
💯 Wise counsel🙏
You are another boulder to anchor Jael. Thank you
its so nice to see your niece following footsteps
You will be remembered in your village as a game-changer whose modern and progressive ways influenced many girls to recognize their self-worth and to achieve self-confidence and self-reliance. Perhaps this is your God given purpose. Walk well my friend!!
I couldn’t agree more. Very well stated ❤
You just nailed it!
I can't agree more. In the future you will be hailed as someone who paved the way for the hard working, girl children. They should be happy to have us return to raise living standards buy building and spending money in the village. Let them gossip.
@arlenestuart...such profound wordings. 😇
I wanna be you when I grow up..❤❤❤
You are a wonderful girl-child! Your daughter will be so happy to have had you as a mom!😊
Please, stop putting youself down. You are amazing, we love you and think you are an asset anywhere you happen to be!🥰😇
She is just sharing her experience and how she broke the stereotype.
You’re a woman who travels many worlds: the traditional, the village, the city, the vlogs..embrace them all and don’t let anyone deny your experiences.
You’re one of the reasons I love village life . Do not be intimidated!! DO YOU.
I will not. Thank you so much, darling

Unfortunately the stigma against single women persists even in the urban areas.
African Women we suffer when it comes to ancestors land.

Also
Me and my husband are currently building a house. I am the Project Manager since my husband don't care much about construction process (He just want to pay and have finished house) and for me Construction its my hobby.
At first the Builders where giving me hard time because I am a woman.
They keep calling my husband to verify my decisions .
At the end they understand I am their Boss .😅😅😅
We will keep on fighting
You're their boss ❤❤❤❤
So why should you complain on one side and say nothing on the other side of the matriarchy where the women hold more power that you stated?!! 🤔
❤❤❤❤❤ you Jeal... I live in a small village in Lilongwe, which is in Malawi. Luckily with you, your parents support you. My mother finds this move to be suvh a disgrace.

True. We all have choices.

You are a blessing darling! Marriage does not define you.
Jael my namesake:
DO YOU ; THE WORLD WILL ADJUST ! 🎤
🎉🥰👌
I'm proud of you. You inspire me. Keep pushing through it. I'm so happy for you Jael. Don't worry and don't give up.
Thank you so much,darling.
Congrats girl. Is there more land for sale that village so that a stubborn sis from Uganda can join you and we give the elders headache? 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂 me too
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Jael, this topic is well overdue! Kudos for shedding light on it. More content on the luo kweche is encouraged for today's generation.
I will try and include a bit in every video

Just like that Jael, you leave us salivating just like that....isorite.😊

"Very clever indeed"😂

@5:30 that outdoor work top and table is quite creative. I like it. The large round chopping board is also a very nice piece, natural tree bark.
Jael, whoever has a problem, can train their children what they want
Jael waah😮it's my first time to hear this.
What a man can do, a woman can do it better. Go go go baby girl and congratulations
Thank you so much.
Love that you brought up these issues ...and I love the path you've taken 😢I am a women and your an inspiration to me 🎉
Good for you! I am glad you took the step.❤❤❤
Beautiful Jael, for not confirming to the status quo.

Thank you
Thank you for sharing your meal with us! We are proud of you.
My pleasure 😊
1. I am glad to see Luo girls pushing back on outdated retrogressive patriarchal traditions

You are a superhero and should be proud of your achievements, hard work and living a genuine and not a false life. 👍
Would have enjoyed seeing y’all devour that soup. That soup looks delicious!!!!! 💚❤️
