Hey man I know you did 10 of the worst Metallica songs but what if you did 10 of the worst Megadeth songs I would like to see your opinion
@@haniespanieldollis i
Does anyone else find it cool when Mike talks positively about bands he doesn’t really like? It goes to show that music that we don’t really like, may have some cool or interesting aspects that we may have not expected.
You dont have to like the band to like some of their songs.
@@Nichwar19yup. There are a lot of musicians that disappoint me because I'll be introduced to them from an awesome track only to find most of their catalog isn't anything special
It's funny too me, because alot of the shit he's talking about is just shit that's generally cool about Slipknot as a whole.
Nobody’s obligated to be a true fan of any band, you can like about 10 songs and call it a night.
I'm not a big fan of winger
But seventeen just hits different a lol
But don't talk to me about anything else
I only know that one song
Hey, Mike praising a Slipknot song? That's nice to see. Before I Forget is a killer track. Would love to see more of these videos.👍🤘
hey
My personal favorite Slipknot song. That melodic breakdown in the middle always gives me chills 🤘
MY END IT JUSTIFIES MY MEMES
This is why I love this channel…even when Mike doesn’t like a band that much, he still goes out of his way to talk about the good parts🙌🔥
Before I Forget was the first Slipknot song I ever heard since my first exposure to it was Rock Band 3 and I've been a fan of them ever since, I also love that the music video is just the band all in casual clothes but only shown from the mouth down so you don't fully see what they look like and it's awesome
at the time no one knew what they looked like. The music video was a hell of a teaser
@@pepinlebref7585 Exactly, it was awesome
Literally the last video I ever expected you to make lol
I'm not that much into Slipknot but can't deny this is a banger. Love the chorus.
I am considered a normie by metal standarts so I appreciate Mike's ability to explain why this song is so appealing to me. I also love Corey's vocals which is more accessible to me
Slipknot is the reason why my music taste is soooo diverse back then
Iowa & Volume 3: Subliminal verses are few of my favourite metal albums of all time
Sid Wilson’s very first mask is even my Google profile here
So seeing this makes me smile
R.I.P Gray❤
R.I.P Jordison ❤
Love Live The Knot🤘🏿
Guitar Hero 2 and 3 To me were my gateway into metal.
From there I just climbed that mountain and I haven't looked back.
Likewise, those 2 alongside the first RockBand game are the 3 most important music games to me in terms where my music taste formed
I think this is one of the first if not THE first Slipknot song I've ever heard on MTV of all places back in ... 2015 or 2016 I think. I was never a 'fan' of theirs but it's still one of my favorites even though I enjoy the first album more for its intensity, rawness and overall FU attitude.
Mike starting to praise songs instead of putting them down, love that
Might be a way to go around copyright claims (I remember the good rap vs. Bad rap video where the bad rap received a copyright claim and the good didn't)
This could be a cool series, picking your favourite song or just one you find interesting from different bands and breaking it down. Great video as always 👍
I really appreciate you, and I really hope everything works out and you make enough to keep posting. LOVED your reaction to Waters' Money, and had to share with multiple people :)
Thank you 🙏🔥
Love your breakdowns so much!
Thank you!! 🤘
Please make more of these!!
a positive video without clickbait title!
let's go my boy is back :D
just listened to that song today and yeah it's always a good time. these guys are really really fucking good. even for my prog standards. there is so much going on but everything fits and after all those years it still sounds unique and recognizable.
Before I Forget is a great amalgamation of Slipknots "sound" from the intro and that bridge after that chorus where it gets all melodic.
Mike and i just switched places musically, ive just gotten into dream theater and now we get a positive slipknot related video 😂
This album has the guitar tone that St Anger wishes it had
Love your analysis of songwriting, performance, and mixing altogether. I also got introduced to this song and slipknot through GH3. Do you like any songs off of Iowa?
1:43 My Plague goes off kilter and out of time during the last chorus. It's really cool
I’ve heard the band talk about how Rubin wasn’t around much and how they never wanna work with him again. May explain why you like it despite his name on it. More produced by the band adding to that “punk” rawness you hear.
The thing that really drew me in when I first played this song on GH3 was the rhythm in the verses.
Great Video man!!!
I would love to see your reaction to trivium especially on there earlier work keep up the great vids man
"a surprise to be sure but a welcome one"
metal zelda in the background
Mike could you list some of the best produced albums in metal or even in general? It would give a great point of reference for your critiques of production quality since many of us lack understanding of frequencies and where instruments should sit in a mix and just enjoy from a more primal understanding.
Love the solo in song. Then at the end of it you get that build. Good hit on the pop song vibe. Great song.
This the song that got me into heavy music. I also discovered it on guitar hero
This is probably my favourite record of theirs actually. I think it kinda embodies a lot of the roots of their sound but they also start evolving a bit on this one. Like, wasn't this their first with out and out guitar solos? Yes, that's right. It was. I think they worked with Rick kinda because of what he did with Slayer maybe. I know around this time Kerry King was definitely singing their praises and I think they toured together a bit before this record got put together. I don't know if that played a part in some of the production choices but to my ear, I hear a lot of common ground. Could be coincidental.
I always thought some aspects of their production like the timber of the guitars & drums reminded me of slayer. Especially the raw & midrangey tone of the guitars.
I remember first hearing this song on the racing game Motorstorm when I first got my PS3, then played it on GH3 later. My first Slipknot song and still one of my favorites.
1000% agree. Everything said
Its good to see you also dont know what to call the palm mute chords that yoy still let ring/hum. Love the sound is there even a name for this technique?
The djent crowd call that "purring" 😂
This song was big amoungst the metal heads I was around with in hs I don't usually listen to much nu-metal as much as I used to but this song is still very enjoyable from time to time
Enjoyed it so much
Haven’t watched in a while, but I clicked so fast 😂👌
Easily one of my favorite tracks when I first got into Slipknot, for all the reasons you pointed out
I first heard this song on my brothers old iPod Nano. It was basically a hand-me-down if you will, and it had a fuck ton of music on it. Before I Forget was one of them, and it was my fuckin jam!
Speaking of Rick Rubin, your opinion of him is pretty close to Slipknot's opinion of Rick. Corey has stated during the recording process of the album "Rick Rubin showed up for 45 minutes a week. Rick Rubin would then, during that 45 minutes, lay on a couch, have a mic brought in next to his face so he wouldn't have to fucking move."
Not the biggest Slipknot fan myself but damn I love this song. The drums and vocals are honestly the best part in my opinion. Everything else too is top tier. It's like Korn, Pantera and Slayer had some kind of weird baby
I hear a lot of penetra in this song
@@ElChuntyCabra yeah Pantera, Korn, Slayer, Sepultura, Metallica and some Helmet I guess
Dude what is that hyrule castle arrangement at the beginning? It’s awesome
It's even better live, the energy is higher than snoop dogg
Should make a video on ur favourite guitar hero songs
Is that Zelda music in the background at the start
i love that you talk about the positive as well even when talking about bands you're "not a huge fan"
Yes!!! Best song by them
Whoa. I didn’t expect this
This was always one of my favorites from that album. Not crazy about the album compared to the first two. Pulse of the Maggots main riff is another highlight on there. They had live concert audience experience in mind for both songs.
When the "YEAH YEAH YEAH OOHHHHHHHH" part kicks in at the end I literally ascend to another dimension
This is like rick beato's series. Its different with mike doing it ofc. Hope to see more c:
Grateful I got to play Guitar Hero 3 growing up, even if the first couple of months were playing with just the playstation controller instead of the plastic guitar lol
2000s video games really shaped my taste in music. Also thankful to GTA Vice City for introducing me to the 80s classics
Bro your words describe what slipknot is and why people love them, basically they do what black metal tried to do but couldn't quite hit the mark at least in my opinion in terms of the pure rawness and it sounds good to a metalheads ears
Yes
Before I Forget is a song Id lose a "Try Not to Headbang Challenge" to
One of their best songs no doubt
Sick shirt. Also, while I do love Before I Forget, it would have definitely benefited from a better mix.
I like this song a lot also, the whole album itself is pretty amazing that not that much filler on it imo.
Vol 3 is top Slipknot album, great songs, great production, great musical ideas.
Agreed. I hated it being an 18 year old slipknot fan when I first heard it but after a while I realized it fkn amazing
This is the song that git me into Slipknot. Must have been that thrash/punk influence. I haven't listed to this album in awhile though.
As much as the production leaves a tiny bit to be desired on the first album, I'd love to see you dissect the song (sic) since imo it's a nearly perfect example of how to write unique thematic progressions in metal and perfectly conveys the vibe of the record from the get go.
Slipknot is my favorite metal band alongside Pantera, and this is the song which made me become a fan. Well i liked My Plague already but had not seeked out more of their stuff.
I think the way this is structured like a pop song is only a good thing and it's the reason many would get into metal because of bands like Slipknot. Lot of them later find all the heavier stuff and find their favorite music there, but even someone like me who listens to lot of different genres but has no taste for extreme metal (death, black, grindcore and so on) and doesn't really go much heavier than thrash, can totally get into Slipknot. Amazing band in my opinion, and for lot of the same reasons many metalheads dislike them.
Ha…I’m not a big Slipknot fan either, but I do like this one as well. The hits on 2 during the chorus really make the song.
I have to say I'm not much of a fan of the 'Knot. But this song just fucking slaps you right upside the head. It's just good on so many levels..
Mike Beato Knight
FUCKINGGGG LOVE SLIPKNOT SINCE 2012 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Even though I don’t really enjoy slipknot all too much anymore, vol.3 is still a great album and holds up well.
Lol best hyrule castle theme playing on the background? nice. Also about slipknot being a nice middle ground between extreme stuff and pop radio sound... yup that's what got me into the more extreme metal stuff. Not my fav band, but till this day i can bop my head to before i forget, duality and spit it out. Simple agressive riffs that sound fucking pissed and written like a pop song.
the main riff to this song is the first riff I ever learned on guitar
Old school stuff like slayer is incredible Rushed and gives it that frantic, intense feel. None of the modern metal to-the-grid has that vide.
Dude. You have to appreciate early Slipknot especially. And as a band, they've been massively influential. They've lead people
down the metalhead rabbit hole into so many other artists.
I listen to other stuff more these days but Slipknot will always have a place for me. They are part of what lead me to artists like Opeth, Wilderun, Ne Obliviscaris, etc.
What about Vermillion
Here is a little doop from me. Hope it helps. I do see what you are saying about this song, but I still feel eh on it.
Its the one song by them that i skipped over more than any other. Then one day i heard it, probaly the 30th time, and BOOM...there it was.
self titled and iowa are all time great albums
Slipknot were free to do as they wanted for Vol3., unlike the previous 2 albums..
As far as I can remember most of their stuff fits 4/4, liking a lot of 8th and 16th notes and riffs that overlap bars.. Mick especially is a really technical player..
Legit how I discovered the majority of my favorite rock bands when I was 9 was guitar hero. Stevie ray von, kill switch engage, Metallica all thanks to guitar hero 3.
Before I Forget is probably my favourite Slipknot song, especially out of their mainstream stuff. I think it might be a toss up between that and Circle from the same album.
Rick beato?
I thought you were Mr. BEAST on the thumbnail for a quick second lol. Cheers.
You should look up what Corey Taylor said about working Rick Rubin during the production of this album.
Oh......I did lol. He wasn't too fond
This song goes so fucking hard the I! On the chorus makes you want to pump your fist
I always felt like Vol. 3 was more of a Hardcore album with ballads sprinkled in between, it sounds so raw and dirty.
The only Slipknot song that I kind of enjoy
Not even people = shit?
Duality?
One of the least slipknot ISH ones lol
@@barry1369Nope
@@expiredcroutonsDuality is overplayed
Nice History Shoe.,"" Roll it.,""
I cannot stand slipknots music, but I absolutely love this song. Top 5
Slipknot's debut is in a league of its own
I'm not really a slipknot fan either, coincidentally this is one song I like from them too lol!
They've said that they don't play to a click. I always liked how in earlier Slipknot how Corey always seemed like he was trying to keep up with the music vocally which gave it such a frantic intensity.
I'll never understand why Slipknot didn't stick with Ross Robinson. Yeah he had a different way of drawing out the best in a vocalist but it made their vocal performances hit another tier. Both Korn and Slipknot went with a different producer after their second album and it shows. Personally I still like Vol. 3 a lot but it was a surprise to a lot of Slipknot fans following Iowa. It actually took me a good amount of listens before it stuck. Honestly though it took me a few listens for all their albums afterwards. The only disappointing album imo was TESF. Not a horrible album but definitely my least favorite.
As good as the end result is, everything I’ve read and heard says that Ross just creates the most miserable working environment in a studio. Given how much feuding there already was in the band at time, having to deal with Ross and his “quirks” likely would have broken them
@@tyler_bt3326 true.
I was gonna say, sounds like this wasn't to a click, but they're tight with each other. I like it when a band can do that. There's something organic about that. Not every band should though, most metal probably needs the precision but some styles can get away with it being a little "looser". I think nu metal in particular can get away with it.
Holy shit, Mike praising Slipknot? Fuck, there's a pig flying outside my window, that explains it!
My favorite Slipknot song is Duality. I'm a Gemini so I can relate 😏
Motorstorm all day every day
Yeah, I'm not big into Slipknot. I like some of their stuff but not a tonne. This one is cool though. Works really well for them live as well.
I think this is mike proving that he can praise/roast any song
Vol. 3 is peak slipknot, you cant change my mind
Yeah, no use for me. They can be tech good but they always pass me teen clown vibes. The intro remembers me of early Korn which is nice but then they had to put that new wave horror punk bridge in it. They always do that. I bet thats the reason why joey came with the murderdolls.
You should really give IOWA a spin/analysis if you haven't yet. First 2 records honestly. Suuuuuper raw and nasty.
