    Kettlebell swings helped me a lot. The exercise taught me how to utilize more of my hips.

    The incline press at 45’ is the NUMBER ONE predictor for punching power, lower body is obviously important but if your punching power increases from lower body training you have neglected lower body strength. Once lower body strength is adequate - the INCLINE BB press is the number 1 predictor for potential punching power.

      Jay Masters is that you? He punched like a girl in his fight with Adam McCloud and he benches incline 405lbs for high reps

    Tyson was a relatively small heavyweight. He himself credited snap for ko power. The mechanics are fine like golfing. So if fluidity and snap can be maintained as strength increases, then you can say that the strength gain will benefit punching power. The problem is that sometimes these things conflict with each other, so the pursuit of strength usually remains auxillary for a boxer. Belt squat march variations probably do have a lot of direct carry over for punching power though, if you had to pick one exercise.

    As a boxer, lifting weights won't give you punching power. You need to learn how to throw a punch and use your weight, timing, momentum and precision. It's why most untrained people can get slept with a jab

      Both it’s Both I’m a rugby guy played for 20 years since i was wee lad and the lifting has carry over to MMA as it helped

      @@Bf3Pumba9887i Thats mass. Ofc lifting helps in some way shape or form but the main thing is technique and mass. There's a saying a puncher is not made he's born.

      When experienced boxers match up (comparing apples to apples) and throw a punch the power comes from bottom up. For example when an advanced boxer sits on a punch he can produce more power than if it was flung to measure or keep distance. Simply doing db curls won’t help but lifting weights correctly following the conjugate method would increase punching power.

    i honestly think its a load of crap, you either have punching power or you dont. push ups, pull ups, handstand pushups, core work etx they help they make you more fluid and the muscle stronger. but actual punching power is just god given, best way to develop it is through the hips and core and the shoulder snap on the heavybag.

      I’m confused, You say it’s a load of crap and then say you develop it by increasing strength in the hips and core. All the exercises they listed are for the hips, core, or both…

      you know the snap is powered by muscles right? Of course there’s technique, mobility and coordination that can come naturally or through practice, that’s a big part in punching power. But strength and speed (also endurance) can be increased through training the multiple muscles responsible for punching. The chest, front shoulders, triceps, obliques and abs to name some.

      @@noahkatz304 You won’t be able to generally punch harder then yourself and genetics however you will be able to make the most out of yourself by developing your technique, strength and conditioning; punching as hard and fast as your genetics, weight and build allow.

If you can find certain exercises for athletes that, when improved upon, decrease 40-yd dash time or increase jumping power or help a lineman come out of his stance with more force or help a skateboarder ollie higher - why would a punch be some sort of different more gene driven thing? You’d Increase strength and rate of force production in the muscles required for the action, and then make sure the exercises have carryover to their sport specific work (eg heavy bags or practice)
