I can't figure out WHY, but I like it. I wouldn't play a piano standing like that, but for jamming with low gritty synth sounds it seems fun! Just like you said, step in, plug, start playing.
OR unplug... i'm using the Boss WL-20 to transmit to main keyboard wirelessly...plus i added a Kenton Midistream wireless midi...now i can transmit 4 midi channels to my main keyboard using it sound to create pretty huge layers
I work as a musician for a cruise ship company that really takes onstage engagement and showmanship seriously. Two years ago, I was ready to invest in a keytar only to realize that Roland had essentially stopped making them. Only today did I realize they came out with this a year ago. Time to start working on guitar licks....
Everyone I ever talked to about replacing the portable Roland keyboard that I have owned since September 2014, the VR-09, with something like an AX-Edge has told me not even to think about it. Such a drag, people don’t know how awesome it would be to have something like this in their arsenal.
Hi Daniel! Now that there has been some time since the AX Edge came out, lots of users still seem to be really frustrated/confused about downloading sound patches and wav packs from the Roland Cloud site and installing them AND configuring/using them in the AX Edge. Considering you are always much more thorough with your tutorials than *some* other demos out there on how to do something like this, can you put this on your list to do a video or series on? This machine is very, very capable, complex, and popular - so a follow up to this video all about upgrading sounds and using them would be a welcome addition. Thanks in advance! 💙🎹
I feel like this would be a super creative tool to use soft synths and stuff with if you can map it correctly. Would definitely be a nice change of scenery from the standard keyboard!
never hear anyone actually play piano on a keytar, this is good. you can play anything, as long as its not The Final Countdown, basically i call it Corny. Cool looking instrument.
If only I could afford it, if only. That voice effect thing, talk box or whatever, is exactly what I’ve been looking for! I’ve been wanting to get a synth for years, a Keytar specifically. I’ll most likely get a Vortex 2, but one day man, I’ll gonna get one of those. Even if it means selling my soul!
My plan is to bring one of these on the last day of my senior year (AKA this year) and have the most badass send-off to 4 long, brain-numbing years of highschool ever. Mine should be coming in the mail before we start the school year, wish me luck.
Its just can sounds SO different!! Very very cool, Roland Inc! Some of the sounds from the great and excellent synths and moduls from the 90s. I hear some sounds from my lovely JP-8000 =) Some of the sounds you can easily made with the super cool Synth1 VSTi! Really close to it`s sound. BUT me really don`t like that all keys are black as hell! It would be looks more better with the traditional black and white keys.
Hi Vladimir. The AX-Edge is also available with standard black & white keys: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AXEdgeWT--roland-ax-edge-49-key-keytar-synthesizer-white Thanks for watching!
Just missing that D-beam... Nothing necessary but still fun to play... If that would have been integrated this would have been an greater monster than it is now🔥
Thank you Mr. Fisher. I am seriously thinking of buying one; the black and white one. I've wanted one since 1988 when I saw Ted Riley play one. Whatever the settings were at 7:41, and 9:12, I absolutely love that sound. I have got to learn how to play that thing. Thank you for the demo. Question... can you play a sound, set the keytar up to replay that sound for 4 minutes while you lay down something completely different on top? Is that possible?
I was just thinking wish they made cool murdered out keytars instead of the fugly 80s looking ones and boom this video pops up. Well done Roland, well done. That thing looks outstanding.
Just ordered one today. It's 1,000$. Really a good price for all it can do. My son (guitar) is starting a band and I'm going to play the bass parts on this.
Hi first of all thank you for the great video it was very informative Secondly im interested in purchasing one but how would it compliment my current set up as its pretty basic (yamaha modx8 and korg krome) i want to add it as a third keyboard but was wondering should i get a 4 channel mixer or can i use it separate from the other two with a stage amp And also am i able to go wireless if it has batteries or would i need to purchase a wireless pak to wear like guitarists do?? Thanks in advance Jon in MN
I'm not a big fan of playing standing up because I use a lot of pedals (you end up pivoting on your heels). They are much easier to use when I'm sitting down. I also prefer 88 keys (49 is frustrating for me). I understand that you can jump up & down octaves, but it's just better to have 88 keys waiting there for you at all times. I bought a Yamaha MX49 and now I'm wishing that I would have bought the MX88. Also, controllers you can can control with your feet are miles better.....I like both hands on the keys at all times. Foot controllers and foot switches can do so much if you put thought into setting it up right.
Bought the white version from sweet water and love it! I’m a guitar player & am wondering what type of key action is Roland AX-Edge classified? Non weighted spring loaded? Looking to buy a full 88 keyboard from SW & would love the same key action as the Roland AX-Edge!
Hi tellthetruthok. The AX-Edge has "semi-weighted" or "synth-weighted" action. As you surmised, it is non-weighted and spring loaded. I also really like the AX-Edge's keyboard action. -_Daniel_
It is cool but I don't like the fact that I have to have an IPAD to edit the sounds. It would have been nice if you could at least edit basic parameters without an IPAD such as ADSR and effect parameters. Not everyone has an IPAD or time to deal with it.
Hi synthartist69. You'll be pleased to know that all of the AX-Edge's synth parameters are also available from the front panel as well. You can edit all the way down to the 4-part Tones: Waveforms, Envelopes, LFOs, Filters, Levels, Pans, Portamento, FX, Scales, EQ, Key Ranges, Velocity Ranges, etc., etc. Thanks for watching!
great video but just one doubt ..do I need passive speakers or active speakers to conect and play my Roland?? I'll appreciate someone reply me .. t-you =)
Hi elmero mero. The AX-Edge sends out line-level stereo audio that needs to be amplified and then sent to passive speakers, or the line level can go to a pair of powered speakers. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
Hi Oneiros. The AX-Edge actually has 10 Favorites Banks (0-9), with each Bank having 10 Favorites (0-9) for a total of 100 Favorites. Check out 3:43 where I discuss this in greater detail. Thanks for watching!
Isn’t the KEYTAR such a CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED musical instrument/synth?!!
no
strong argument for the keytar. I can't understand why there aren't more people playing it
The most metal keytar in existence in my opinion. ✊✊✊💪
I actually ended up here after seeing a metal band that uses one. They were rad.;
I don't think I've ever wanted a Keytar until now. That looks like fun! Great Demo!
same here!
I can't figure out WHY, but I like it. I wouldn't play a piano standing like that, but for jamming with low gritty synth sounds it seems fun! Just like you said, step in, plug, start playing.
Can you play a backing style with it?
OR unplug... i'm using the Boss WL-20 to transmit to main keyboard wirelessly...plus i added a Kenton Midistream wireless midi...now i can transmit 4 midi channels to my main keyboard using it sound to create pretty huge layers
Roland Buster Sword
Hell yea
Just got mine in about a week and a half ago. I'm absolutely in love with it. Going to do wonders in our project, not to mention the aesthetics.
This keytar looks damn cool!!! It looks like cloud's buster sword..❤❤❤
I work as a musician for a cruise ship company that really takes onstage engagement and showmanship seriously. Two years ago, I was ready to invest in a keytar only to realize that Roland had essentially stopped making them. Only today did I realize they came out with this a year ago. Now I definitely don't like my keyboard any more
I could listen to this guy play keytar for the rest of my life, also, I am very high. Thanks Daniel!

I’m surprised 😳 that the KEYTAR was never 👎🏻 featured in the movie 🎦 *School of Rock?!*
1. This guy is badass.
2. I want this so bad!
Going to be purchasing it in a few days.
14:38 that was so sick. I legit want the full version on my Spotify.
bro second that!
Just got mine and the hardest part is putting it down. Looks great, sounds great and with all the controls in the right places.
This will definitely get you a girl
Playing an instrument can turn a 4 into an 8. There have been studies.
And what if a girl is playing the instrument?
Fatima Shah still gets u a girl ❤️❤️❤️
@@Fatmasha definitely gets you a girl :D
@@Fatmasha It will get you a girl or guy, take your pick. Basically, keytars are sexy.
I painted the blade black and added some LED-lights below the keys. Now its perfect!😎

Can anyone explain why I suddenly want one?
This instrument is a sex machine my friend
I first saw the AXEdge in the Sweetwater catalog and instantly wanted it. After seeing this video, however... I REALLY want it
This is enough to convince me of the grand potential of such a wondrous instrument!
Just finally purchased one. This work art is one of my dream instruments. Can’t wait to finally play some crazy deathmetal with a keytar
I feel like this would be a super creative tool to use soft synths and stuff with if you can map it correctly. Would definitely be a nice change of scenery from the standard keyboard!

A keytar is awesome because it gives the keyboardist freedom of movement like guitarist enjoy.
Great demo! So many great patches, but those groovebox sequences (almost guaranteed to be labeled "techno") need to be sent back to MC-505 heaven.
Kinda perfect for covering Pendulum songs with this Keytar.
Well I can't say I was expecting an opening of jazz of all things on a keytar
8:00 yes!

did you enact the plan?
Did you succeed with the plan?

I am fuckin’ SO buying one of these now. Not only does it look awesome, it’s layout is perfect and it’s a really great synth
I feel like I’ve time traveled to the 80s
14:38 This is my Master , i want to be someday like him ...
That's ...
That's...
That's beautiful...
Ding ding ding
He got me at the Hammond sound part. I need one too now.
Excellent presentation
Literally watched the whole thing, convinced to get one. And then noticed we have the same first and last name lmao. It’s a sign
Hi Danny Fisher. It is a surprisingly powerful beast. -_Daniel_
Какие то неземные звуки, абсолютно!! Пересматриваю видео только ради этой музыки!
First guy I see that makes it sound good :o
14:50 !!! Dang! One man band!
Great synth and presentation!
Batteries and a small speaker literally just 1 bag carries the whole beauty
Super bellissima la Roland da parte di Salvuccio Lamanna
Just imagine if the ROLAND JUPITER was a *KEYTAR?*
Just missing that D-beam... Nothing necessary but still fun to play... If that would have been integrated this would have been an greater monster than it is now🔥
Dark souls instrument
Idk why but not wrong
If only WE could be so grossly un-incandescent....
That thing is HEAVY as FK man!! I need one! I was going to get an Alesis vortex...but I should save up for this instead!
So dope just picked one up
im buying one tonight after hearing that , Thanks
Awesome demo!
11:15 Wow... Nice! Very surprising for a Keytar! :)
Did the classic RUclips got to this comment right at the point in the video and hell yeah that arpegiator is amazing.

I want this soooo... bad!!! Unfortunatly it is way more than I can afford. I just got an SHS-300.
I was just thinking wish they made cool murdered out keytars instead of the fugly 80s looking ones and boom this video pops up. Well done Roland, well done. That thing looks outstanding.
You forgot to mention it's best feature....it just looks SO DAMN SEXY.
A masterpiece of a Keytar
Man, that thing looks like a weapon. Haha! Great review! Really cool instrument :)
thats why they call it an AXE
I like it...
Better sounds and performance control than the Yamaha but rather bulky. I'd happily have an octave less or mini keys (I'm a heretic).
Great demo BTW
I didn't know I needed this lol I'm dreading finding out the price though cx
Just ordered one today. It's 1,000$. Really a good price for all it can do. My son (guitar) is starting a band and I'm going to play the bass parts on this.
Dude this nailed like every keyboardist tone from Children of Bodom. Like JAJAJAJA!
Anything roland makes is awsome! i have a boss katana 50 watt amp and that thing is loud!
The only problem with this is the trip hazard caused by all the panties on the floor.
I LOVE THIS Looks like my old one
> What instrument do you play?
> You ever hear of Cloud Strife?
That 6:20 demo sounds unreal
Dan you’ve got to program Frankenstein sounds in there.
Can I just attach a mic instead of buying a talk box? What’s the cons to not having them separately?
Hi first of all thank you for the great video it was very informative

Don't think of it as a keyboard. Think of it as a keytar. It's for its own thing.
When you want to slay that synth solo and a Rathalos.
I'm trying to find just the right solo to get the Rathalos to crash! Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
very nice job
i gotta get one of these.
Does it have a loop station as well? What he was doing there at 15:00 where the groove stayed and he’s able to solo on top of it…
Darn you, now I want one
Aww I need one so badly right now 😢
Ben Chang would love this
Can I play it while sitting down?
Hi BillieSwift. Yes, it has four rubber feet, allowing it to securely play flat.
-_Daniel_

@@sweetwater Thank you!!
That is one of the most beautiful, sexy keytar I’ve ever seen🤩. I have to get me one
Great instrument.
There is also a button that opens a time-portal to the 80's ;-D
The '80s were beddy beddy good to me. -_Daniel_

Awesome!!
Anyone out there tried out strap locks on their keytar? Also, what strap did you use?
Please sir, how can I get a tutorial for this instrument.
I think I should've gotten this instead of the FA06...
You can edit on the unit too. Editing via Bluetooth on an iOS device is another (quicker and convenient ) way.
6:28 the good sound
Picked it out of thousands, I did...
-_Daniel_
I didn't realize Walter from Big Lebowski was a keytar enthusiast.
How many of you are here because of watching the equipment video of Jordan Rudess ??!! What a cool keyboard ! ! !
Ok I’ll buy it and an amp next month.
Yep.
Gotta have this.
I know I had to... -_Daniel_
In Favorites You have 9 banks of 10... not just one so you can store a lot more and or set up for a show so you can seamlessly switch tones :)

that's a blade.
