My home in Northern Ontario, Canada is an old century home with an arts n crafts style. It has original wainscoting in the upstairs bathroom which we kept when we updated the bathroom. It adds such a nice touch. The outside has vinyl siding in pale blue. We had both doors on the house painted a midnight blue to contrast. The 2nd storey has the cape cod style windows and the master bedroom has a double hung horizontal windows . Loving the old fashioned feel. We had the roof done in blue shingles. So it all comes together. The front porch is closed in with windows. The problem is my kitchen is on the centre of the house with 3 doors. Little wall space. We can't knock out any wall space to widen it bc of the structural weight. I'm stuck.
Apparently everyone on my block besides me decided that white would be the ideal color and all the houses are white whether they are brick, natural stone or stucco. I don’t understand why people want to paint low maintenance brick to make it another maintenance cost. I will keep my original brick color and now am the standout color 😊
Thankfully all homes around me have the brick still. I’ve seen the trend creeping in on painting brick homes white and it just spoils it in my opinion.
I recently painted my Craftsman style house SW Tempe Star with SW Natural Choice for the trim. My front door is painted BM Coral Gables. My sister has a Mediterranean style stucco house that she recently painted SW White Duck. Her large back deck is painted SW Sealskin. We are both really happy with our choices!
My former home was painted in SW Pure White. I lived there for 16 years. When I was buying the house, I wanted it to be white so the design center told me to go to a sister neighborhood and see if I liked any of the white homes. There were a few. I loved the pure white with red door. My red door was a different shade and I had black shutters. I had so many compliments over the years. It was a stunning house. I sold it to downsize.
I have a white painted brick ranch style house. The only stark White House on my block. Trimmed in black with a Mediterranean blue front door. I LOVE it.
Thank you for this. Now I realize the worn out patio set on my porch should be the color of our front door. Frank Lloyd Wright advised to repeat the color of brick or stone MORTAR for the trim color. The gray craftsman you showed had a red brick foundation with white mortar and bright white mortar. It really popped. Personally, I love a blue house especially navy. However, a reputable designer advised me that blue exteriors always fade. Maybe paints are more colorfast than they were fifty years ago. 😁
There are programs that exist to do this, however, they do not account for what a paint color looks like outside, and as a result, aren't accurate at all.
For non-historical homes from the mid-1970s with rusty-reddish/burnt orange/dark brown brick on lower front of house, and pale to mid non bright yellow from the 70s, in aluminum siding. (No wood siding underneath) White trim Yes, front garage.
Just seeing your video for the first time, thank your for the tips. My conundrum is matching my siding with the surrounding brick.
