I agree, I remember the avocado green and mustard colours in the 70s, they soon became too much. From years of experience the fixed items in kitchens, bathrooms and laundrys are very expensive to replace. Economically it's best to keep them basic and bring colours in in the paintwork, throws, towels, cushions, curtains, artwork etc.

@@elizabethk3238 Not at all! I have incorporated lots of colorful items on the counter, shelves and towels. Tons of color. The white background makes the colors pop.
We built in 2016. I used to work at Sherwin Williams for about 3 years and had my own faux finish/interior painting business for about 12 years. My motto for my own home is NO WHITE WALLS and NO WHITE CABINETS LOL!!! I love color. My own color choices are watery blue greens. We have an open concept house so the living, kitchen and dining are all one big room. We have maple cabinets with a coordinating quartz countertop and SW Meander Blue walls. We are in our 70's and pretty traditional. I had to kind of chuckle when you mentioned not relying on the name. We have a guest room and bathroom painted SW Cachet Cream. You would think that's an off white. But It's a buttery yellow color. I'm kind of surprised that the sages have hung on so long. You wouldn't believe how many gallons of SW Clary Sage I mixed while working at the store from 2002-2005 and used in my own business. Accessible Beige and many of the Greige colors were popular even back then. I have my own paint chip fan deck and choose my colors from that.
I painted my kitchen with that darker blue 10 years ago! I'm finally trending 🤣 It is beautiful with a white walls and chopping block countertops. I have green accents and pieces as well.
I have a white kitchen and love it, but I would seriously consider sage as an alternative. I love love love the colour sage, and have it in my living room.
I just remodeled my white kitchen and just tweaked the white cabinets to Greek villa SW, it is a classic that never goes out of style. It is gorgeous. White on white was probably over done but white cabinets will always be in style.
I just painted the kitchen. I believe in paint colors that make people look attractive. So I went to the paint store, turned my arm over, and selected paint that matched the color of the pale skin under my forearm. The clerk came over to help me and was delighted with the idea. Since I'm a white person who was once a golden-haired urchin, the color is a pinky-yellow whitish neutral.
I painted my cabinets a medium greige maybe a mid 60s lrv. I couldn't find the right greige color, so I mixed all five samples together, and it was the perfect color so i had it color matched and mixed in the right finish. My walls are Sw pure white, and I'm using the same greige mix on my trim, baseboards and interior doors. I love it!! Now I want to paint just one wall behind my tv a muted sage that will give some color, but still keep the neutral look overall neutral look I love. Thanks for the color recommendations!
Pam here…I had a white kitchen…no money for new. I painted my walls Warm Muffin by Behr Paints. It is a golden yellow that made everything POP and SPARKLE. It was essentially a neutral. I could do sage greens, grey blues, burgundies, eggplant colors with it. I don’t know the precise undertone in Warm Muffin…but I have used it for 15 plus years and people keep asking me what it is and Home Depot still has the formula and still makes it for anyone who asks for it.

I love beige walls with woodwork with wood floors and warm earth tones of nature on everything else. It goes well with stone fireplace walls. I reside in the country side in a cozy home with earth tones, which goes well with the scenery.
I’m in total agreement. We used BM Historical paint colors on the interior and exterior of our historic 1868 home in a mining camp in the mountains. Amazing colors and tones that I still love 30 years later. I’m considering using those paints in my 1920 farmhouse in the valley. The houses are very different but I think the BM historical colors will work well in both.

I plan to paint my current kitchen before the end of the year and am leaning towards putty simply because that color works with the existing white appliances and I'm working with an open floor plan with a lot going on in the kitchen/living room space.
I remember going to the slab yard and finding this beautiful bathroom display. I bought this apricot and beige tile only to discover when the contractors installed the tile there was lots of grey in the tile too. Luckily I like the gray so the color schemes worked out nicely.
I'm house hunting and I cringe everytime I see the owners have painted the wood cabinets. Most people don't do a good job and they are streaky and the doors stick trying to open them. I'm much happier seeing kitchens with natural wood cabinets.
My home was built in 1858 and the kitchen is enormous with 12’ ceilings. My cabinets are a mahogany cherry finish. One outside wall has one long countertop for all of my small appliances like my KitchenAid mixer [attachments including pasta maker, food processor, ice cream bowl, etc.], Keurig, pressure cooker, blender, juicer, panini press, indoor grill, and ice maker for pellet ice. Three islands: two smaller ones with stainless steel countertops [one for prepping, one for cooking], and one large one with a huge sink, dishwasher, and trash/recycling cabinets. That one has a soapstone countertop.
I’m refinishing my oak uppers with an oil, for a sweeter, more natural look, and painting the bottoms eggplant. Adding handles to prevent grime and dress up the look- brushed nickel for me, but golds are also gorgeous.

anyone whos ever rented knows any kind of cream or off white color has been used to its death in apartments and truly hated color palette When I got my house I never wanted to see it again in my life its so depressing
This video is so helpful! Exactly what I’m considering with my new build! I’m considering Stucco, Accessible Beige, or Natural Tan for my cabinets. I’m planning Alabaster for my walls & using it on bead board for my backsplash. How do you like your black leather granite? I’m considering that for my countertops! I’m looking at Basil for my kitchen island with a whitish quartz with some charcoal grayish veining.

I've stalked that image on your video (time stamp 4.40) - any idea what that cabinet color might be?? It is my fave for kitchen inspo pics. Just classic and giving that English cozy vibe too. THANKS!! Keep up the great work.
I have accessible beige on all my walls with graphite color cabinets. I understand there is a green undertone in the paint. My hardwood floors are very close to the cabinet color. I have an open concept home. What color would you recommend for the accent color? What color would you void? I too have color drenching in my home.
Hi in the next couple of years I am going to completely rebuild the kitchen. My house was built in the early 30's towards the end of art deco. I am thinking of using the colour palette of the era but in a modern way. I know my budget won't allow for real stone but I am thinking french blue cabinets with butcher block counter tops with a cream/beige walls including subway tiles in a matching colour. I am undecided about the flooring I cant decide on a cream floor tile or traditional quarry tile or vinyl laminate.
White kitchens will always be classic. Add your trendy colors via accessories, wall paint and other details that can easily be swapped out, but never ever be told by the fickle design community that white kitchens are out.
I'm wondering if you watched my video? These are exactly my thoughts. In fact, I have a white kitchen and love it. White will always be timeless. However, many are asking for non white cabinet options, hence the reason for this video...
@@homelikeyoumeanitI did! In the very beginning and the end you told the audience if you love white stay with it, but the meat and potatoes of your message is, without saying it, color is fresher, newer, cooler. That's fine. It was a good video and I simply shared my thoughts.
I think with the current trend of white and off white interior wall colors ..you crave a bit of depth and color somewhere. Also white walls and white cabinets just doesn’t work in my humble opinion
You either have to go 1.5 to 2 shades lighter or darker. 2 shades darker than AB is darker than most want to do in their living spaces right now. I'd say go with a pretty off-white like SW Pure White or BM White Dove. Can also think about SW Heron Plume, which would be really nice.
What wall colour would you recommend for cabinets in that Creamy/green colour called Mussel, island in hunter green and Calcutta Ora quartz worktops tnk you.
You can do uppers and lowers in different colors. I like doing island in a different color and then wall cabinets in the same though. Personal preference!
I have a simply white on top and hale navy on the bottom and curenetly trying to get a countertop and sink and backsplashes. Do you think getting quartz that's similar to simply white would be ideal? Thinking about getting black kitchen sink but dont know if white kitchen sink is better.. thank you!
I'd go with a pretty, soft white like White Dove. Alternatively, you can go much darker (about 1.5 shades darker than Pale) but most people want a lighter color than that.
There will always be white kitchens. Colour is great until it isn’t and colour trends come and go but kitchens that cost 20-30 thousand dollars are not so easily changed out when designers decide on the new colour trends.
I will ALWAYS go with white cabinets. They are timeless. You change the color your kitchen WILL BE dated at some time. I suggest perhaps just painting the island a different color if you’re looking for a pop of color
So many of these "Trends" look great and can work well for wealthy clients who have no problem with updating them when the style quickly becomes "outdated."
What are your thoughts on black cabinets? We have a lot of cabinets on the room. Paired with brass handles and a brass faucet. The island would be stained wood, mahogany, so darker. The counter tops are white with gold veins (quartz). White walls. We have several large windows in the kitchen. Is that too dark, or will it be out of style very soon?
Thank you for the response! This is helpful. I did also see your video that recommends creamier whites or pale neutral wall colors. We’re taking that advice and now staying away from stark white walls. We’re also planning natural colored hardwood floors.
Hello I decided on the SW Dutch Tile Blue for my kitchen cabinets, have light gray flooring and a all white counter top, now what would you suggest for the walls? Thank you.
If doing a neutral, look to what’s going on in your kitchen and room opening up to kitchen. This is a good place to start: ruclips.net/video/fHdhbbaoCBY/видео.htmlsi=VwyF7IE0JlUJ9T9r
This was great, so informative! I am struggling with kitchen cabinets that I want to paint. I have not picked my new counter yet, however my walls are collingwood and I just don’t know what might compliment it. I do not want white cabinets. My trim is Chantilly lace. Would you have any idea what might work for me? I hate green, so any green undertone should kill me. Saying that sometimes I see green in collingwood, I have lots of windows and my sun room is where i see the green due to all the green outside. Help! Thanks in advance
My kitchen is very small, all the walls are Botany Beige and my cabinets are white. I have black appliances and my counter tops are granite with beige base with tans and browns with a touch of maroon. What would be the best color for my cabinets?
Great ideas here. Thank you! How would you handle my situation: I am ordering cabinets but prefer to choose my own colors with more nuance from, say, Benjamin Moore. Does this increase the budget a lot? Do I pay for white or raw cabinets and then have a painter paint them?
@@homelikeyoumeanit Wow, fast response, thanks! I'm not sure I understand. I got bids from two local cabinet makers, but they only offer factory painted in a white and a beige. So, in your experience, how do you get custom colors like the ones you suggest? Or is that only for repainting and not new build? Or do I need to find a very high end cabinet maker to get more color choices?
The picture of the kitchen that everybody loves is beautiful because of the ceiling if you took away that warm wood ceiling that kitchen would fall completely flat. I get frustrated with designers who are talking about color and then show us rooms with architectural details that the rest of us can’t even afford.
I color drenched the butler’s pantry I built with BM Oil Cloth. When I was painting it on it looked brown and it sorta faked me out. Then when everything is done it’s definitely a grayed sage color. Looks great with the white oak shelves and it never shows dust. 😂

Is it possible to use sage green if I want to stay away from gray and yellow?? I seem to really like green. I am colored challenged for sure!!
What color would u suggest with wood counter tops? Dark and light wood shade
WHYYYYY be like everyone else.......trends be gone .......do what YOU love ....a house that tells the story of YOU! If you want a lime green kitchen ...do it!!!! Be yourself....if it speaks to you do it!! When a "designer" cares about being trendy.....RUN don't walk away!!! There are NO MISTAKES......if YOU love it ...go for it!!!
Thank you for this great video. Such helpful info. Wondering how you feel about SW Shitake for kitchen cabinets vs SW Accessible Beige?
anyone whos ever rented knows any kind of cream or off white color has been used to its death in apartments and truly hated color palette When I got my house I never wanted to see it again in my life its so depressing
AMEN!
Unpopular opinion: You can make any color not depressing by doing lots of decorating!
I agree! For me, it is not a color. White is the base before the colorants are added.
Would LOVE suggestions for darker neutrals, maybe with 30-50 LRV.
I love my black leathered granite! Its low maintenance and beautiful!
Ashley, I love your content and find your videos so helpful. You are right on the latest trends and it's so helpful while I am in the midst of planning. Accessible beige is up there on my love list. I've stalked that image on your video (time stamp 4.40) - any idea what that cabinet color might be?? It is my fave for kitchen inspo pics. Just classic and giving that English cozy vibe too. THANKS!! Keep up the great work.
Hi, thanks for watching! I’m not sure the exact color on that image. Sorry! I would try some of the beige colors though, because it is close.
I have accessible beige on all my walls with graphite color cabinets. I understand there is a green undertone in the paint. My hardwood floors are very close to the cabinet color. I have an open concept home. What color would you recommend for the accent color? What color would you void? I too have color drenching in my home.
Live live this video. What if I have pink/gray countertops 😢 and white gray backsplash?
Hi in the next couple of years I am going to completely rebuild the kitchen. My house was built in the early 30's towards the end of art deco. I am thinking of using the colour palette of the era but in a modern way. I know my budget won't allow for real stone but I am thinking french blue cabinets with butcher block counter tops with a cream/beige walls including subway tiles in a matching colour. I am undecided about the flooring I cant decide on a cream floor tile or traditional quarry tile or vinyl laminate.
How beautiful! I’d go with quarry tile. Or you may even check out engineered hardwood.
Luuuv my white kitchen. Much classier than an color.
Agree! So glad people are bringing in some warmth!
Accessible beige looks darker on my walls. I love the color.
I like mine just the opposite...white cabinetry and warm walls.
Which color white should I use on the walls if we paint the cabinets accessible beige? Thank you!!
You either have to go 1.5 to 2 shades lighter or darker. 2 shades darker than AB is darker than most want to do in their living spaces right now. I'd say go with a pretty off-white like SW Pure White or BM White Dove. Can also think about SW Heron Plume, which would be really nice.
White never gets old. Browns get old.
Thank you for the video! Any recommendations for a good place to buy knobs and pulls?
Yes, top knobs are the best!
What wall colour would you recommend for cabinets in that Creamy/green colour called Mussel, island in hunter green and Calcutta Ora quartz worktops tnk you.
I love the blue on the top part of your wall! What is the name of the color?
Britannia blue!
Could you mix color cabinets? Maybe white upper cabinets and Gray or another color bottom cabinets or would you just stay with all white?
You can do uppers and lowers in different colors. I like doing island in a different color and then wall cabinets in the same though. Personal preference!
I love the way your cabinets look on camera. What color did you use? It's so warm.
she mentioned it - Britannia Blue by Benjamin Moore
The ones in the kitchen are BM white dove.
Whit cabinets always my choice
Can you recommend a cleaner for the cabinets prior to painting them and I would imagine we have to sand slightly?
Plain old TSP
Sand with 220 grit and then 300.
I have a simply white on top and hale navy on the bottom and curenetly trying to get a countertop and sink and backsplashes. Do you think getting quartz that's similar to simply white would be ideal? Thinking about getting black kitchen sink but dont know if white kitchen sink is better.. thank you!
Most quartz will work really well with Simply White. From personal experience, I'd forgo the white and choose stainless steel.
If you use pale oak on upper and lower cabinets and stain on island what color would you go with? What color would you go with on walls.
I'd go with a pretty, soft white like White Dove. Alternatively, you can go much darker (about 1.5 shades darker than Pale) but most people want a lighter color than that.
What’s your opinion of BM Intrigue for cabinet color?
Very pretty color!
Can white counters pair with the beige or taupe cabinets?
Yes! Find warm whites that have either beige or taupe undertones.
Where do you get large scale samples of the paint colors like you showed?
You can get something similar using samplize!
There will always be white kitchens. Colour is great until it isn’t and colour trends come and go but kitchens that cost 20-30 thousand dollars are not so easily changed out when designers decide on the new colour trends.
I agree with you, but a lot of people love chasing the trends!
I have green undertone whites farrow and ball for Europe, shaded white , school house white .
My walls are already beige should I still paint cabinets beige or go with olive green
What cabinet colors are best for a north facing kitchen? These all seem to be for bright kitchens and I don't have enough outlets to add lamps.
This is sometimes controversial, but yes, I do believe a lot of black cabinets will be out of style very soon. Love that you are doing brass though!
Collingwood is a gray with a violet undertone, so you need to stay in that family if you want to do a neutral cabinet.
Tremendous video! Shocked that you only have 7k subscribers.
Thanks so much for watching and the compliment!
Your best bet is to find a local cabinet maker. Their paint process will hold up much, much better than having someone paint them after the fact.
@@jeanetteoki1866I would
Keep looking. There are many cabinet makers that will do any color you want!
I have assessible beige on walls with white cabinets
The picture of the kitchen that everybody loves is beautiful because of the ceiling if you took away that warm wood ceiling that kitchen would fall completely flat. I get frustrated with designers who are talking about color and then show us rooms with architectural details that the rest of us can’t even afford.
its really not that hard to DIY, theres. crap ton on how to do this. not as expensive as you think.
Oil cloth is pretty
Is it easy to paint white cabinets?
Truthfully, if you want it done correctly it is not easy. It’s a process!
I like my light cabinets
What is your wall colour beside white kitchen cabinets?, when showing what colour works with countertops. Thanks for helpful when choosing colours.
The walls in my kitchen are BM Balboa Mist.
@@homelikeyoumeanit thanks for quick response re wall colour!
I color drenched the butler’s pantry I built with BM Oil Cloth. When I was painting it on it looked brown and it sorta faked me out. Then when everything is done it’s definitely a grayed sage color. Looks great with the white oak shelves and it never shows dust. 😂
