Um rapaz com uma banquinha de livros usados...lá estava sua biografia, com seu rosto na capa, foto esta tirada nos estúdios do La Scalla de Milão em 1965, durante as gravações de Lá Gioconda. Desde então não a esqueço.Todos os dias penso em Maria Callas.❤

Thank you for posting this. It is a treat to hear Maria Callas at her vocal best. Only the sustained B gets quite metallic halfway through, but the ease with which she sings the coloratura, the trills and the high E ´s is stunning. The studio recording is more accomplished in character and more poetic, but less opulent vocally. 1952 is a bit of a turning point I find for her. She is in stupendous voice, while paying ever increased attention to the score and drama. Her Armida the same year is a tour de force. Her London Norma is the most accomplished thus far in balancing drama and vocal brilliance. 1952 was a phenomenal year. On another note, she was not grossly overweight there, looked perfectly fine to me - also in 1953 and til mid 1954 . A healthy weight for a big voice.
Very nice that Marx is posting frequently this week. I do prefer the studio version, as it is more atmospheric and introspective, but she is in such great vocal shape here. Very spontaneous singing. Her love of interpolating high notes during this time period got the better of her here at the end though.

If you wanna feel the music, listen to the studio version. If you want to be amazed by the vocals, listen to the 1952 version.
