  • While Rudee holds many charter boats that have quick access to the sea, the Lake itself is great for wildlife viewing, kayaking, and kayak fishing. Boats with motors can partake in the saltwater lake's inshore species scene but the whole lake is "NO WAKE," which is great for smaller craft such as skiffs, jon boats and kayaks.
I've fished Rudee 4 times and each time hooked up with fish. Like any other fishing area, some seasons are better than others, depending on what you are targeting. I have caught Bluefish, Speckled Trout and Striped Bass in this lake during the 4 times I've been, but what most attracted me was during the Bluefish season when the Blues migrated and infiltrated Rudee. They are voracious feeders with sharp teeth that will bite most anything.
In this video, most Bluefish were caught on the Topwater lures (Zara Puppy Spook and One-Knocker), but one was caught on a shiny orange and silver spoon. I trolled a bit and caught a nice sized Speckled Trout with a plastic swimbait along the shoreline. Redfish and other species frequent this lake through the inlet, as well, so give it a shot. There is plenty of parking at the Owl Creek Boat Ramp. Also, the waterfowl scene was active with Common Loons (Breeding and non-breeding), Canadian Geese, Mallard Ducks, and Merganser Ducks.
Remember: Life is Ticking...Better Get Fishing! Good luck!
