- In this episode, I'm meeting up with two good friends Meghan Lorraine and Jay Brooks, along with a couple other locals, to chase BIG bluefish and striped bass at Rudee's Inlet near Virginia Beach. We go through how to catch these fish using live bait you can catch right under the dock, Meghan gets hooked by an angry striper and we all catch multiple nice fish.

I love when he lands the fish and the fish starts flopping around "Oh God, oh God". lol
Hahaha those teeth, man!
Oh. I screamed no at the same time you did and that fish came off. I have family in that area and have never fished there. Awesome
Yeah man I was bummed, but that’s what keeps us coming back for more! Really cool area to fish
Thanks for the shot of the Virginia Beach EMS Marine Rescue Boat. Those crews are mostly volunteers serving the citizens and visitors to the city.
That's awesome, I had no idea.
rudee inlet!!!!! my local waters!! i got tons of videos on this body of water check em out robert!! from reds to blues rudees got it. thats so awesome and your fishing with a guy i know! id love to meet ya man and like you said towards end of the video Virginia beach is rad!
7citiesfishing I have lived here my whole life and haven’t fished rudee yet but this is my first year of heavy kayak fishing I’ll have to make it out there lol
Really cool area man! I already moved on but I’ll definitely be back!
I love rudde caught a 31 in red fish in may
I live in the area as well! What time of year is best for blues in Rudee?
Dang those were some huge bluefish man. Sorry I watched this late brother, got operated and home medication soooo great, I'm good now brother and just watched this video! Robert you tha Man, to leave everything behind and your the country for different species of fish. Let us know if your going back to Panama again brother. tight lines never stop brother!
Thanks my man! I’m in Panama every January, April and August.
Robert Field , I want to go on my birthday which is in January. please keep me in mind, I do want to go brother. BTW, Badass videos, I love all of em. Tight lines never stop!
We call Blue fish Tailor.
We love eating them, gut and cook whole, stuff with butter, salt pepper, tomato and onion. Squeeze lemon on to taste once cooked. 👍👍
Typically we get them 300mm (12 inches) but sometimes upto 500mm (19.5 inches) in our Estuary systems. They get to 1.2m (4 feet) out in the ocean.
Sounds pretty tasty. Good to know!
We call them Shad in South Africa. The young green shad average 2- 3kg and the big blues shad get to 10kg
I am not a big fishing type, but these vids are very entertaining and educational. Thanks!
Glad you’re enjoying em!
Robert It's good to see you made it to the DMV. Yes spot are real. Good bait for blues and striper in this region. Can't wait till you hit Maryland. You'll love it. Good times bro.
I had no idea! Really cool area
That is a for real hangover when you try to hook your bait on backwards. Lol.. Great video.
Hahaha the struggle was real
Another awesome video, really enjoying see all different parts of the US and what they all have to offer. Keep up the great work!
I’m enjoying it too! Every state has been special in its own way. Thanks for coming along for the journey man.
Bluefish are an absolute blast to catch. Fighting them near docks like that must be a lot of fun. I saw someone make smoked fish dip with bluefish. That sounds pretty darn delicious. Thanks for bringing us along.
I bet they make a killer dip. Fun for sure!
Love the vid. especially the intro about going out and fishing the following morning. Awesome!
Haha thanks Jose!
Great episode brother!! Love catching Blues, I have yet to catch one kayak fishing! They are definitely the hardest fighting fish I’ve ever caught! #YouTheManRobert!! 🙌🙌🙌🙌
They’re a blast dude!
Another great video, you just keep on getting better!
Thanks Toby
If you are still in the VA/MD area and plan on hitting the eastern shore, Tuckahoe State Park is about 30min east of the bay bridge. Nice campground and a small lake with extensive creek system. There are a few big bass (4lb my best there but heard about a 7lb) but the quantity is always good. I started fishing it in a canoe then a jon boat. Work up the creek, enjoy shore lunch and then drift back to the launch. Pads and weeds and wood. Chain Pickerel are common and my personal best came out of Tuckahoe.
Never looked into the inshore options available for eastern shore of MD/VA but Tuckahoe may be well suited as a base to check them out.
I already moved on, but I’ll be back! I’ll remember this
Ok, finally signed up for my own account ;). Used to be under my husband's name Richard . We look forward to Tuesday's because a new episode is coming ! My favorite Vlog to watch right now :). Anyway, thank you for sharing the journey with us :). Looking forward to all the adventures :):
Thanks for following along on my journey Tamara!!
It is a paradise for fishermen! Beautiful bluefish!!!
Yep!
Rob I feel your pain when you lost that big one. It's happened to me many of times. Great video btw.
Heartbreaker for sure, but that’s what keeps us coming back for more! Thanks man
That was so excellent! Going to get a line out now...pumped! Ty for sharing.
Thanks Chucky!
Awesome videos man. You’ve became one of my more favorite youtubers!!
Thanks Josh!
Well what another great video buddy. I see Meghan can definitely handle her own and out fish the guys. I see she can out drink them as well haha. I bet that was a blast being with them over there Rob.
Haha yes she can do both! Super fun day
Robert Field I see that haha. Jay has a great partner that's for sure.
Awesome video Rob! Your videos continue to be an inspiration to us. Can't wait to see you in some salt water again, but always dig your videos fresh or salt!
sweet man, blues are so much fun especially on topwater! If you ever get around to NJ in spring hit the inlets with like pencil poppers or tsunami talkin poppers, blues get real crazy on them
Sounds like a blast! They’re a sweet fish
Really had a great time Robert. Cant wait for you to come back to our area.
Likewise brother! Thanks for showing me such a good time. One less shot next time.
living the dream !!!!!! cant wait for you to make it to the great lakes . tight lines bro
Next summer!
You’ve got to fish the bay bridge tunnel if you ever come back. One of the best spots on the east coast for kayak anglers.
hey man if you want some nice sized stripers check out the Roanoke river in plymouth north carolina. i grew up there and have caught an insane amount of stripers out of that river. the cool part is the river dumps into the albamarle sound and that dumps into the ocean. and if you want some big bass i suggest go trolling by the edenton bridge in the albemarle sound
Rob great vid man, in Australia we call blue fish Tailor, cause their teeth are sharp, good eating if blead on capture 👍nice
I didn’t know you guys had em! Very cool
Thanx for the tip, about bleeding them! Great to know
Great episode! Have only caught one (small) Blue many, many yrs ago surf fishing in St. Augustine. We used live finger Mullet, and most of the bait was retrieved bit in half.
Really fun fish, but a little sketchy when those teeth and treble hooks are floppin around the kayak.
Ditto on that. :)
Another great video, if you ever make your way to Rhode Island we got stripers, blues, fluke, black sea bass, tautog. Love what your doing with the toy hauler, I also have a travel trailer and would love to send you to nice campgrounds near nice fishies in RI
I’ll be fishing RI in a couple days. Wish me luck!
Robert Field please hook a nice trophy Stiper!!! Best of luck man
Another awesome video Robert!!!!! Way to HOOKEM IN THE MOUTH!
Thanks man!
Awesome vid! Can't wait for you to make it back to Oregon.
Me neither!
Well... I am glad I found this video! Just moved into the area and thinking about putting in at the same inlet tomorrow in my Yak. You guys put in next to the Virginia Beach Aquarium right?
Tried out a small area in/near Lynnhaven inlet on Friday for a few hours after work until chased off the water by a storm.
This looks promising!
I have only caught a few small blues from the beach a few years ago... and never a striper.
Thanks for sharing!
Yes sir! Good luck out there
You too man. Tight lines!
The size of those little ones or preferably smaller are fine to eat. But my suggested recipe isnt smoking em. Foil boat on the grill with a drizzle of olive oil and water, let the fillet cook half through and then pour a few shots of whiskey on em and a very thin layer of buffalo sauce. Used to toss em all back now I'll keep any under 4-5lbs. Obviously bleed immediately and cut out bloodlines before cooking.
Good to know!
@@YakFishField been binge watching your videos lately. Awesome to get a reply. Your vids are amazing. You threw back a lot of good stripers in this vid and/or a few others. The small ones (28-34in) are pretty well equivalent to grouper. Just did blackened striper sandwiches with chipotle mayo yesterday. Absolutely amazing.
C'mon man, you are giving up our secrets. Nice video 👌 and we like it here, welcome to the Virginia family!
Keep up the great works guys.
All the best,
Jimmy Willis
Thanks Jimmy!
Are you ever going to come back to VB because I am trying to get into kayak fishing and it would be awesome to meet you sometime. Also I was the exactly 800th like.
I hope so, I really liked VB! Not sure when but down to get together when I make it back that way
Va beach used to go to rudees all the time. Hopefully I can move back one day! Check out Bob's fishing hole in Chesapeake next time your out there monster bass there!
I’ll do that man! Really cool area
awesome video haha those were some big bluefish u caught n hook into
Yeah man! So much fun
hay Rob those blue fish you are catching are standard size in AUSTRALIA and great eating if bleed. great with bacon and eggs.they are also called Tailor here
Good to know!
I'm living in williamsburg now! Glad you caught a bunch of fish!
Beautiful area!
Quote of the episode.
Megan: "Takes longer to revive the big ones."
Haha
Nice... lol
Top water bluefish and striper action is much more fun.You need to get up here to the northeast for the fall run to get in on some real action!!
I’m in Maine now, that northeast enough?!
Yea I would say so...how the fishing up there ? I’m in CT but fish mostly Connecticut , Long Island and Rhode Island
9:07 caught a nice striper off that dock and the point to your left is a killler drum spot
Good to know!
Thanks for this video !!! Wonderful
Kiss from France
Thank you!
This is awesome !!! Keep up the great work.
Thanks Justin
Blue fish fry when they're 8 or 10 inches long we call them skipjacks and fry them up in a pan they are tasty little kippers......
Good to know
Man I must have just missed y’all out there...wish I could been out there smashin em with ya! Nice fish!
Super fun place to fish man. I’ll be back!
Robert Field definitely have to let me know. Would love the opportunity to fish with ya! Good luck on the rest of your journey across America!
I got a good bluefish poke recipe. Easy, and quite delicious. Best to bleed them after catching if you want to keep. And the smaller size are the good ones for poke.
Wow I wouldn’t have thought of bluefish poke. Now I’m curious!
Robert Field yessir, cut 1lbs of filet into approx. 1 inch cubes, toss in a bowl. Mix in ~2 tbsp soy sauce, ~1 tsp toasted sesame oil, ~1 tsp gochujang (Korean fermented red pepper paste), 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds, ~1/4 cup finely sliced green onion. Obviously you can adjust the measurements to taste. Or use whatever fish you want. But it's a good way to use bluefish, at least to me.
If you get them on ice fast it helps a lot. I like to smoke blue fish or make fish cakes with them. If you sprinkle the fillets with lemon juice and wait for the flesh turn whitish they taste less fishy.
Good tips, thanks!
F A N T A S T I C videoooooooo !!! even if Megan was the better fisher of the crew ; remember : Stripers are for boys, Blufish are for men !!! congrats Robert !!! another fantastic video !!
Haha I’ll remember that. Thanks Giorgio!
You should come out to lake St.Clair in Michigan and fish for musky!
I plan to! Next summer is the great lakes
Up on cape cod where I live are giant blues and stripers. My PB blue is 15pounds and striper is 35 pounds
Those are beasts! I’ll be hitting Cape Cod and Boston.
Have always eaten Blues. Smaller are better, as with any highly predatory fish, less likely to be accumulated environmental toxins. This is why many states have no minimum size requirements and encourage anglers to keep and eat smaller Blues. Bleed them first by snipping area below gills. Baked fillets with butter, lemon juice and Old Bay seasoning is great!
Good to know!
Beautiful Video Congratulations friend! *hug!* 👍🎣
Thanks!
Heading my way NJ/NY ?
Jersey bit quiet with Stripers
What's your next destination?
Thanks for the video
I’m heading north and hitting every state. My schedules pretty solid though man, I have my route and plan pretty dialed in months in advance. I have to, or my life gets pretty disorganized and miserable pretty fast, haha.
Good to see you give VA a shot. However, the other side of the state is where its at!
just a quick note, i have not ever caught a bluefish so this episode is still bad ass!
I’ll definitely be back to Virginia
Awesome!! When was this, July?
Awesome video! Was everyone in the video using live spot as bait?
Great video, good content. Like what you're doing
Thanks Lee!
Nice video bro,i personally like to catch them on poppers
I bet that’s a blast!
Give this man his own show
My home town! I miss it so much! :.(
Awesome place to fish and just hang out!
Just wait til you make it up to the North East... a 30"+ striper or gator blue is pretty normal up by us in NY/NJ.
Oh I’ll be fishin for em!
Great video as always
Thanks man!
A sign of a true pro, catching fish after getting hammered the night before. 😂 another quality outing Robert.
Hahaha the struggle was real
Sup dude great content every upload
Thanks for following along with the journey Oscar. I’ll keep em comin!
Great vid keep it up living the good life

"When I was puking at the middle school the last shot felt a little excessive." -Robert Field
edit: oh and by the way Megan is hot 😍😂😂😂
Hahaha, not one of my better moments. Luckily it was 2:30am and no kids were present.
Robert Field I just joined the notification squad love the fishing great upload
She's not shy either.
11:18 best catch of the day !!
Haha she’s a rad chick
Love the content!👍
I’m so glad!
Hey man.. I love your channel. . It's the only one that my wife will watch. We are from crystals river Florida you know the place! . My wife is handicapped and can't go fishing anymore on the boat so we do bank fishing. Her birthday is coming up. . Any way she can get a shirt or hat .. or information on how to obtain would be appreciated. .
Thanks bro.
Tugjunkie1.
Fish on
That’s awesome man, so glad you both enjoy the show. I don’t have any shirts or hats yet but I will soon! I’ll announce it. Get back to me when I do and I’ll get a couple out to ya.
Robert Field btw. Our last name is also field..
Bluefish is very good to eat and doesnt have to be smoked if you know how to cook it. i grew up fishing on the bay eating blues
Good to know! How do you cook em?
Nice snapper blues
Yep
Those "spots" taste great! J.S.
For some reason this video was suggested to and then I find out you were in my home town!! Weird
nice, looks like fun
It was bro. When y’all flyin out?!
Robert Field not sure yet. Rex is pretty busy. I’ll see how his schedule is in September
I saw a guy reach into a Blue's mouth for the hook one time and it pealed his thumb like a banana, that's why I use a 9 inch steel leader before my hook.....
When the blues are feeding on a school of pogies (manhadin) the big strippers will sit on the bottom under the school of feeding blues and catch the pieces that drop down to the bottom.
Many times while snagging pogies for bait I've pulled in half a pogie......
Yeah their mouths are crazy
Oooh man that bluuuuu got chomped. 😳
Haha yes he did
Pound for pound one of the strongest fish I have ever caught!
Too bad you didn't keep any of the bluefish. Seasoned or breaded and baked in an oven, they turn out quite tasty. I've had them many times.
Good to know!
Would have been cool to see Kayak Kevin on the water with you guys.
Great videography
Thanks Gary!
Blues are frustrating at times. They spit the hooks a lot when they jolt out the water. That’s why I use 8- 9/0 Gami’s or beaked hooks
Yeah man losing that big one was a heartbreaker
What month was this fishing trip? I see it was published in July.
June
What size was that penn slammer III you used?
3500
You should come to Montauk, NY
I’d love to!
Robert Field you would have a blast, maybe you can give me some tips and trips on starting up on RUclips if you come out here.
Did you get rid of your Hobie? And if you want some really big stripers come up to Maryland, Susquehanna river and flats in April.
Nope, I still use the Outback plenty
You need to come back!
Small Blues make good shark bait but I didn’t like blue fish either. This area is fantastic for fishing tho. Love me some Virginia beach lol
Yeah man our original plan was to fish the CBBT but the wind would’ve made it dangerous. Plan B worked out pretty well!
Robert Field me and a friend made the mistake of going out three miles on the cbbt in kayaks...... never again we weren’t prepared and the current and wind fought us two and a half hours of constant paddle to land
there again Robert... Eastern nc has chopper blues....come here man
I’m hitting every state bro. Let me get there. Haha
Robert Field you get here and I'll put u on whatever type of fish u wanna catch bro
🔰I love this video :Very nice game 🐋🐟
Thanks!
That’s the ramp I use to go off
what time of year was this?
Summer. Possibly May?
Once your done with US will you go to other countries?
Maybe!
You should got the amazon
Big cat fish there
Kk gracias
Shooting at the middle school lol
Spell check OMG
Uh yeah, no shooting, just vomiting haha
Dang!
100k man let's gooo
Yeeyee!
What kinda rod are you using
A Lamiglas PK724S, part of their Paco series.
