- I fished during the tail-end of 2018 Bomb Cyclone in VA Beach.
The wind was strong at 15-22 MPH. Because of the bad weather, I was the only fishing that day. I prepared well so I was comfortable with the wind and cold air.
I fished the protected areas (from the wind) first. There, all I caught were stripers. So, I went out to the wide area, and anchored the kayak. I used whole shrimp (frozen/fresh) for the bait - the same shrimp I use for Tautog/sheepshead.
The first one caught on shrimp was a striper. Then I caught 8 puppy drums at 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and three at 25.9 " (pinched tail). I measured and measured so that I made sure that they weren’t 26”.
It is about that time again! One year exactly... from tomorrow.
I am preparing for Rudee Puppies right now. I may fish tomorrow
comeonfish01 Nice! I am headed to the Outer Banks this week/weekend otherwise I would offer to go fishing with you! I just looked up the limits for Reds for this year and they are the same as last year.
Nice video !
I like the way you have two cameras setup. I was thinking about recording when I fish.
To me it has been fun to recording the fishing. In my case, I am making a video fishing log every time I go out.
Having multiple cameras is good thing. But It requires a lot more when recording and especially when editing.
Start with one camera first, fixed mounted or hat/helmet cam. Add a camera when you are comfortable with one camera when fishing and editing. The hardest part of making a fishing video is catching fish. No fish, no video.
I got better in catching part after started making videos because I must catch fish to make videos.
Nice work! I need to plan trip down there. Thanks for sharing your setup. I'll have to give that a try.
Awesome day of fishing at Rudee. Wind looked like it was tough out there. but when the bite is on, who notices the wind
Dude you are killin it already! Here I am thinking its too cold... I would love to meet up and fish with you some this year. Maybe do some collaborative videos...
Did this ever happen? I binge watch both channels!
Looks like he who is brave is rewarded! Nice day on the water! Thanks for showing how to rig the shrimp. Tight lines!
Nice catch! Couldn’t ask for a better result in those conditions. Thanks for sharing love the channel and content.
NICE drum! Well done!
Awesome! You are a fishing genius. CPR and Tight lines.
Love it! Where's the leprechaun out fit? haha.
He was underwater wearing a green jacket. He was the busy one putting fish on the hooks.
I wish I was there too! Nice job as always
Awesome day out!💯💪👊LET'S GO!!!
Congrats buddy....did you anchor at all in that wind? If the reds are still in Rudee do you think the Elizabeth river would hold any?
I brought a 5 LB grapling anchor. With the wind like that anchoring is the must. I haven't got a text from my friend about E.R (Elizabeth River) kayak fishing yet. In the spring, wait 2 weeks for E.R. puppies, 3 weeks for speck after Rudee catch report.
comeonfish01 Man I hope there is a still a SPECK bite after that freeze!!! Are you going to chase bull reds in the spring on the Eastern Shore?
Wow~nice!! I wish I was there too!!
Nice catches and video
Great day on the water!
Is the season for rockfish ended? whats the min size to keep? good vids
Rudee is in the VA coastal zone. it has to be 28"+
The Chesapeake Bay (tidal) is closed
What type of anchor should I use to hold my kayak at the cbbt when the current is rough?
a 3 LB grappling anchor will be ok for almost all waters
+comeonfish01 thank you!!
+comeonfish01 I forgot to ask but can it hold the kayak at a river or wise point while the tide is going in/out?
We, Kayakers don't anchor at around the first Island (rock pile) The rock pile can be extended by 50-150' from the rock pile above the water surface. You will loose your anchor. Some people use home made 3 -4 prong anchors. I don't know the gauge of the wire. I didn't see that thick one at Lowes. I have one from my friend. Don't make it it's wasting of your time.
Other CBBT area (from shore to a quarter mile before the 1st island, a 3 LB grappling anchor works most of time. But I like a 5 LB for rest or pit stop. You need about 70' of line for that
I will answer for Wise Point Channel.
The damn current is too strong for regular paddle kayak. I have seen paddlers gave up paddling against current. I believe the 5 LB anchor will do it.
Makin it look easy!
