The common clothing of our Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) that is known to the vast majority of Muslims is that our Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) wore a turban, sheep-wool thawb, and leather slippers/shoes. At times, he would wear a two-garment dress (similar to the ihram of the pilgrims).
Some Muslims believe that it is a requirement of religiosity to dress in a similar manner. While these intentions might be praiseworthy, what proponents of this opinion fail to realize is that the opponents of Islam, such as Abu Jahl also wore the same type of clothing! In fact, every man in Arabia wore similar styles.
Obviously the pagan Arabs and the enemies of the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) were not trying to "follow" the Sunnah by dressing exactly the same as our Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam).
So the question arises, then, as to what the real Sunnah method of dressing is.
Join Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi in this video clip were he revives the true method of dressing the like the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam), and following the Sunnah the way our Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) wanted us to follow his Sunnah!
A MUST watch video for every Muslim who loves to follow the Sunnah!!

Syeed Aadil Hafiz but Muslims should not be thinking that they are sinning or being less of a Muslim for not doing so. Like Yasir Qadhi said, Islam came NOT to revolutionise FASHION. Islam came to remind the people that there is ONLY one God, Allah the Almighty. And teach them the right path.

I (personally) have some questions about some of the points with following comment(s); that we should be overtly-happy to express the sunnah 'clothes' because it was the way our Nabi SalAllahu alayhi wassalam did dress. Even if they laugh at us or those around us may think its ajeeb to contemporary times. Wallahu a'alam. jazaakAllahu khayr. The point is to distinguish yourself as a Muslim and to keep imitation of the Kufaar to a bare minimum.
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.”
[Abu Dawood, 3512; Classed as Saheeh by al-Albaani (رحمه الله) in Irwa’ al-Ghaleel, 2691]
However, I do agree with Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله) that it is not obligatory in a non-Muslim country (especially due to the harms that may result in doing so) but it is obligatory in a Muslim country no doubt. Hijaabs & beards are absolutely obligatory everywhere in public (Hijaabs), as well as covering the Awrah, and there is indeed more reward for the one who strives to please Allaah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى).

+0nly1truth As an American convert, the question of what dress to adopt is a hard one. Should I dress like my Indonesian brothers? Or my Saudi brothers? Or the my brothers from Gambia or Algeria? My mentor in Islam is Yemeni, should I dress like him? Or should I wear the clothes of my ancestors, the traditional garb of my people (Americans)? This is why I like Dr. Qahdi's lecture, because the important factor is not dress but action.

    • @0nly1truth
      @0nly1truth 8 лет назад +1

      +recon6725 Sounds like a decent selection there for you, there is no official dress, the point, issue & intention is to distinguish oneself as what is commonly perceived as a Muslim in whatever time period & place. But like I said before, I agree with Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله) who was of the opinion that it is not compulsory to do so in a non-Muslim country, however it is more rewarding In shaa Allaah, provided the intention is correct, and if you do decide to dress like common-folk then you should be cautious not to imitate the Mushrik clothing or colours even, for example;
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) forbade the wearing of the colour Saffron and said:
"These are the clothes of the disbelievers, so do not wear them."
      [Saheeh Muslim]
No disrespect to any speaker etc, but we should be more concerned with what Rasoolullaah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) teaches, when individuals desist teaching the Sunnah, they inevitably drift off.

If you visit Turkey or Bosnia you will see they don't wear the thawb or kamees because its not their culture, the sign of a Muslim man is the beard and modesty and some say wearing the topi as well, regardless its not a big deal. If someone wants to wear a thawb or kamees because he feels it is his identity of a Muslim then that's okay, if you read the history of the Muslims of Spain they had a distinct clothing distinguishing them from the Christians and this is where the Spanish Inquisition targeted the Muslims by banning their distinct clothing that identified themselves as Muslims so if we live in the west where we have the freedom to wear whatever we want, then why not.

Not to follow norms and cultures and familiarities. So we should imitate him in every way! Why are we adopting the suit and tie which was always worn by the kufaar? Let's not dilute Islam because of our own personalised perspectives. Allah grants hidayah to whom so he pleases. We should always be well distinguished from the kufar.

You cannot degrade the Prophet (s)'s clothes this much. He was not wearing what the pagans wore. He had a different dress and the pagans had different dress. The Turban is a Sunnah. "The difference between us and the Pagans is we wear Turbans over hats" that is an authentic Hadith. The thawb was a Persian clothing which was introduced to Arabia in the 11th century. We have to keep this clothing because ir is spiritually significant. All the angels wear Turbans and all the Prophets did as well. That is a sunnah. We do not judge but you must wear it if you are going to guide people and are representing the way of the Prophet (s).

It's simply naive to think people will react negatively and short sighted too. Why don't we look at the bigger picture? From my own experience, wearing an imamah (turban) or thobe does definitely make you feel more close to the Prophet (saw) and is actually a dawah to the rest of humankind. I agree, our akhlaq is the most important factor here but Muslims also have an external identity too which we cannot deny. You also cannot find a more modest dress for men than than the thobe or kurta in my humble opinion and Alhamdullilah in the UK It's pretty common now to wear one!

No, no don't speak on behalf of Muslimat in Britain, we love our Hijab the way it is, a hoodie shows the shape of your shoulders. We might put a pin or different wraps its lovely. How is a hoodie even British its an athletic thing and we know who runs around the streets in hoodies. I applaud and make Dua for the women in Uk and in any western country wearing the full khimar. They have the guts and love of their lord to wear it. Sad how some Muslims don't like seeing that. Imagine on the day of judgement when that is written in your book.

I disagree with sheikh yasir's point of view. we follow and do everything that the prophet Muhammad SAW did, it doesn't matter if he told us to do it or not, if he did it, then is part of sunnah. 2nd point we have sisters who are wearing hijabs and is hard for us. You can't put kufi on?? Or wear islamic cloth that shows you are a muslims to nonmuslims? We need people to see that muslims are everywhere and are peaceful people, but if they only see the sister wearing hijabs and our men are addressing like them

I love how he said all scholars have done this historically… which basically means that the scholars recognized these styles of clothing as sunnah. Typical reformist mentality.
Wallahi I would’ve missed a jummah if it weren’t for the sunnah clothing. I was once looking for a masjid for jummah. I was looking for a Muslim to ask for where a masjid was. I couldn’t find anyone and subhanallah a brother gave me salam. Why did he give me salam? He saw me wear a jubbah and kuffi. So he guided me to the masjid.
This reformist mentality is against the love of rasulullah ﷺ.

I don’t agree with all of this. I do think one can be modest without wearing the traditional Islamic clothing. Modesty is the aspect that is Fard upon us. However I don’t think we should stop anyone from following the sunnah of the times of our Prophet (May peace be upon him). If a man wants to wear a Thobe or a woman wants to wear an abaya instead of trousers and a top, then May Allah increase them. In fact, as a woman, I noticed if done properly, the abaya does make it a lot easier to cover up than it does with jeans and tops. The effort is a lot more with western clothing though it can be done. Still will not be the same effect as a properly loose abaya.

+Mohammad Nazir Ahmadi I'm sorry but if you want to give some Dawah to a bunch of british people, don't you think they're going to be a little stand off-ish because of your beard and thawb. No-one is saying it is bad, but if you want to appeal to the people of your time and society, you can still follow all the modesty rules of clothing while wearing pants and a shirt. If you are not in the business of Dawah, then do as you please.
That way, you are still being modest but you will appeal to foreigners so that they may accept Islam. When you are so vastly different from them in appearance, they won't understand you.
Like Yasir Qadhi said, Allah sent prophets who look like their people so they were familiar with them and would more likely accept the message.
You should try your best to look familiar to foreigners while still upholding your modesty, so that they may accept your message and not see you as a foreigner talking about an ancient religion.

If kids in every single country in the world can wear some snapbacks and trendy van shoes with some Metallica shirts, why can't i wear a thobe and kufi hanging out in Time Square? Hip hop is considered "universal" when other styles are considered "cultural", so the clothes in America is for the world but the clothes in Africa and Asia is only cultural. Colonialism put European countries culture into the world but now its subjected to being considered the standard. I think we can make Saudi, regardless of the politics, a standard now for representation of a brand of fashion, whether religious or secular in nature. Religious on the point of imitating the prophet and secular as that clothes are clothes and trends aren't wrong. Why not dress as the prophet did? Nothing wrong for doing it, nothing wrong against it.

This sheikh makes perfect sense. There is absolutely NOTHING in the Qur'an that tells us how to style our clothing. It simply says to be modest and the Prophet wore EXACTLY what was the norm of his culture. So there is nothing wrong with wearing the clothing of our culture created by even non-Muslims, as long as it is modest.
InshaAllah, Muslims hear this and understand the difference between what is culture and what is Islam.
As a Muslim, I say it's perfectly fine for a Muslimas to NOT wear a khimar. It's fine if she wants to wear a skirt or pants that go only up to her knees. SHE DOES NOT have to wear them any longer then that. The Qur'an never says so, not the Sunnah. Wearing longer dress, head covers, exposing only the hands and face,....is cultural. Not Islam.

      Abdul-Haiy Muhammad
Since you said about the quran iam not quoting ahadith of our beloved prophet muhammad saw.
      Praise be to Allaah.
Verses that have to do with hijab:
1 - Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer palms of hands or one eye or dress like veil, gloves, headcover, apron), and to draw their veils all over Juyoobihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband’s fathers, or their sons, or their husband’s sons, or their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sister’s sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islam), or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack vigour, or small children who have no sense of feminine sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allaah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful”
      [al-Noor 24:31]
2 - Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“And as for women past childbearing who do not expect wedlock, it is no sin on them if they discard their (outer) clothing in such a way as not to show their adornment. But to refrain (i.e. not to discard their outer clothing) is better for them. And Allaah is All‑Hearer, All‑Knower”
      [al-Noor 24:60]
“Women past childbearing” are those who no longer menstruate, so they can no longer get pregnant or bear children.
We shall see below the words of Hafsah bint Sireen and the way in which she interpreted this verse.
3 - Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies (i.e. screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way). That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allaah is Ever Oft‑Forgiving, Most Merciful”
      [al-Ahzaab 33:59]
4 - Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“O you who believe! Enter not the Prophet’s houses, unless permission is given to you for a meal, (and then) not (so early as) to wait for its preparation. But when you are invited, enter, and when you have taken your meal, disperse without sitting for a talk. Verily, such (behaviour) annoys the Prophet, and he is shy of (asking) you (to go); but Allaah is not shy of (telling you) the truth. And when you ask (his wives) for anything you want, ask them from behind a screen, that is purer for your hearts and for their hearts. And it is not (right) for you that you should annoy Allaah’s Messenger, nor that you should ever marry his wives after him (his death). Verily, with Allaah that shall be an enormity”
      [al-Ahzaab 33:53]

If men should stop following the sunnah and stop wearing caps or imamah then women should too follow the women of their culture and stop covering themselves.....

      🤦‍♂️
No, the cap and the imamah are sunnah
Any dress for men that isn’t tight and covers from the knees to the naval is halal
Any dress for women that covers the entire body except for face and hands and doesn’t show the body figures is halal

Veganism ?? fine tuning?? What are u talking about yasir? just cause u have a command on the language does not mean that u can mislead people like this? U will be held accountable for what u say!

You can be a vegan and a muslim, no problem with that. The only think you can't do it, that think whoever is not vegan is committing a sin.

Yasir Qadhi is blessed with all sorts of knowledge but he is a deviant. He encourages imitating the kuffar, shaving the beard often, not covering the head, and supporting homosexuality. May Allah protect the believers from deviating to a new religion.
