- "My Ummah will divide into seventy-three sects all of which except one will go to the Fire, and they (i.e. the Saved Sect) are those who are upon what I and My Companions are upon" ~ Prophet Muhammad (ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam)

I'm 60 years old now. But when I was 17, I came across this hadith about the 73 sects. I had doubts about its real meaning. Exactly, it has been misused n misinterpreted by Sunni groups, claiming that, they are the one out 73. I'm born to parents following the Hanafi sect. Though I too follow the Hanafi sect, I don't say I'm a Hanafi. I'm plain Muslim. Just Muslim. I really hate this divisive words. Hanafi, Shafie, Shia,.... Though I'm Sunni by practice, I really respect the Iranian brothers for being more sincere in the Islamic cause rather than most of the Arab brothers who collude with Zionist American n Israel. It's not about being a Sunni or Shia, but rather how good a Muslim you are.
“And do not be like the ones who became divided and differed after the clear proofs had come to them. And those will have a great punishment.” (Āli Imrān: 105)

I 100% respect and admire Sheikh Yasir Qadhi MashaAllaah even thou i may not agree with everything he says, still overall he's s very knowledgeable and wise person and for this reason i totally have respect for him

Really like this lecture. We need to show more love and unity between our Muslim brothers and sisters. May Allah (swt) shower his mercy and blessings upon us all. At the end of the day we all believe in the same God and Prophet Muhammad (saww) as the last messenger. We shouldn't be quick to judge others just because they are from a different sect for they may be closer to Allah (swt) than us. Grateful to be part of the Muslim Ummah! May Allah (swt) put love in our hearts for all sincere and God-fearing servants of Allah regardless of their sect!

If I was deviant, I would want others to advise me and and to do all they could (within the capacity of the Shari’a) to bring me back upon the truth. If that involves refuting me - so be it, if that involves gently advising me - so be it, if it also involves warning others against my false preaching - so be it. And yes, as Yasir Qadhi alluded to, it is a rule of mercy and compassion, but it is NOT limited to that.
That's what I fear too Wallahi. Our people are Masters at cursing those amongst us who promote peace and tolerance. The good thing is that; when Islam is powerful and influential, those cursers have no power. May Allah make Islam powerful again.

I accept and adopt this view and the proposition
Islam is what was revealed upto life of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Rest is Islamic history. I am of the opinion that if you believe in five pillars of Islam and prophet as last messenger, Allah's mercy will allow us all whether Shia or Sunni to Jannah.

Brothers and sisters, we should fill our hearts with love, with brotherhood. This is a time of fitnah for the Umma, the Umma is lost and feeble! We should reunite the force of our love and brotherhood to fight against the fitnah. We won't gain anything by fighting with each other. We should let Allah decides about the beliefs, only He knows what's we have in our hearts. We're Muslims if we believe that there is no God besides Allah and Muhammad (PBUH) is His last messenger, we pray 5 times, we fast in the month of Ramadan, we give zakaat, we don't spread violence physically and verbally, we try to help and love and making peace with everyone, that's the teaching of Islam. Islam means peace, so hatred has no place! May Allah guide us and forgive us! May Allah fill our hearts with love and Imaan! Ameen.

great lecture. Of course we may disagree (the 73), but we can't just label each other with Mr. hell or Mr. heaven because in the end HE is the judge, The All knowing and All Merciful.

If the number was supposed to be a generic number, the Prophet would have used the number 70 and not 73. The use of the number 73 is very specific and it is specific very deliberately.

Jihad is considered as sixth pillar of Islam.
“Indeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects, you O Prophet, are not associated with them in anything. Their affair is left only to Allah and He will inform them about what they used to do.” (Al-An’ām: 159) And He, the Most High, stated:

Unanimously majority will decide which fold of islam is real or Allahsubahntalla will decide? which surah or Ayat indicates that Muslim should also follow the hadith " sahi Bukhari" or other hadith along with the Quran?

my dear respected brothers and sisters we in this time need unite together, we are all an ummah of muhammad (SAW) put aside the small difference of all the schools, wheather hanafi, shafi, maliki, hanbal, salafi etc, these are all small differences, why are we all fighting and looking for faults, allah said in the quran, if we carry on fighting each other like this as today this is creating great fitnah and fasaad, this is why we are all fighting and disunited.... please brothers and sisters learn and respect each other, our pious predcessors did not have this dispute etc over groups, we all have the same aqeedah, thats more than enough... i follow the school of hanafi,but i love listening and attending lectures from all thoughts and opinions, we all trying to follow quran and sunnah, but yet why our scholars fighting each other, please brothers we need to unite now.... and for the shias may allah guide these sect... my advice to them is learn there books and wallahi it is totally a corrupted sect...research brothers and sisters..
IN QURAN ALLAH(SUBHANWATALA) has said that(SAITAN IS YOUR OPEN ENEMY)we are so vigilant when it comes to our money,properies and our assets that we get it insured or put our money in the bank.but here saitan is openly denounced as our enemy then how much more vigilant should we be cause in the case of our iman(which is the biggest asset for a muslim) we know our enemy.Saitans main agenda is to root-out IMAN of a believer.In every prayer and in every supplication(dua) even in our janazaprayer we supplicate to ALLAH(SUBHANWATALA) TO SAVE GUARD OUR IMAN .
well instead of listening to their lecturers if you introspect from their books(the books of other sects)you will find them heretics,as to what they have documented in their books

I am a Northern Nigerian Muslim. I n recent times, we have watched videos of some Muslims calling certain individuals Allah in open public places. These sect of Muslims have musicians that sing songs that openly declare their sheikhs Gods. I personally find it difficult to join them in Sallah. Could I somehow be wrong?

May I know where is the rest of the hadith about this ...it's not the complete version as it also states that how would you know what is the right sect out of the others...and it is the one which follows the prophet( saw)and his companions..brothers and sisters in iman yarab which companions are the prophets companions ..pls let us correct ourselves and follow the prophet (S.A.W),and his rightfully companions ..pls ummah of the prophet where is the basis of our learning why do we not simply go back and look at that instead of just brushing over things...I mean uniting the ummah if we are really uniting ...only .true islam can unite it...true intentions sincerity and the GZuidance from Allah ...and listening and seing to the right truth yarab...and Allah knows best

Allah swt and prophet Muhammed pbuh have perfected islam. There is no need to be any other sects in islam. Those that follow the sunnah of the prophet pbuh are on the right path.

abdul wrong Even born from same father and mother two brothers have different view on things. Especially when things have been influenced by outsiders. Remember, the division took place after the battle of Jamal, people who took side with Ali are the present Shi'is and the rest who went to Maweya side are the Sunnis. If in Islam, hadith or any other source Maweya has been praised more than Ali than by all mean sunnis are the righteous. I am not saying all shi'is are correct, they have some nonsense as well, but in general the theology of shi'ism, the original that you can search, is stronger than the theology of Sunnism.
the source of religious belief is Allah (swt) and His messenger not from shi'ism nor from sunnism, i think in knowledge we have to seek God for He is the All-Knowing rather than to be with man made belief.
Yes, no doubt about that. Do know that Allah and his prophet has commanded every one to learn from cradle to grave. Have you ever wondered why? That being said, learning happens through a teacher. The book is there, where is the teacher?
Every human being comes with a capacity and not every one has the ability to think beyond what is read. Imams, Islamic scholars, they are here to give us further instruction, or help us to understand the dept of Book Of Knowledge!
I do agree and i have high regard and respect to all the Imams and the Islamic scholars but let us not forget that no matter how good we are that our knowledge is just a drop of water in an ocean .In other word, you and me the Imams and the Islamic scholars might know something but not everything.

Prophet (pbuh) said that the ummah would be divided in 73 flags and 72 of them would go to hell. They all would be Against that one true sect.
That sect is ahmediyyat. All sects forget their enemities to discriminate and apartheid against qadiyanis.
You can not suppress noor of allah for too long.
From the principles of Ahlus Sunnah is that we refute the Ahlul Bidah. The Muslims who have gone against the Ahlus Sunnah. We still work and unite together for common good, and to eradicate evil. Unity has its principles.
My intellect says the imams of makkah and madinah should be on the right methodology, which is following the way of the salaf without the need to label.

Actually your in intellect is mistaken. Do you know that for 150 years Makkah and Madinah and Jerusalem were held by the Fatimi Shia empire. They had their own imams. So if you are using this analogy then first you must accept that the Shia are upon the haq. Also at one point Makkah and it’s mosque used to be flooded with idols. So the argument you put forward holds no weight. Besides which Muslim authority in the world says that the ulema of Saudi Arabia are world class??? This is just emotional thinking .
I respect ppls opinions amd beliefs cuz truth is always grey. Ppl have their proofs and reason for their thoughts. Lets jst agree on being muslims and united.
