  • In this video, I upgraded the integrated graphics on a Laptop using a M.2 to PCIe x16 adapter. This video runs down the entire process from start to finish. This might not be the most practical solution but it was fun to test out and a great example of what PCIe can do. I want to know what games you think we should test out, in the comments down below.
    Parts used:
    M.2 Adapter: amzn.to/41DaRnM
    DP Headless Adapter: amzn.to/3kywODJ
    EVGA Power Supply: amzn.to/3xX7kTA
    RTX 2070: amzn.to/3IYnNNv

  • @marc-andreservant201
    @marc-andreservant201 Год назад

    Mobile GPUs are designed to allow sending rendered frames to the CPU so you can choose to use the GPU only for gaming, which saves power. Obviously a desktop GPU can't do that, so you'll need to hand it to a VM with VFIO, and use Sunshine to encode the output of the dedicated GPU to a video stream for viewing on the internal display.
    But that setup is pointless, since you're just streaming video over the network, and therefore there is no need for both ends of the connection to be the same machine. You can achieve better results by setting up a real desktop PC in another room and connecting the laptop to it over Ethernet or Wi-Fi 6.

      @@albibarti3951 A PCIE slot on a desktop motherboard can deliver up to 75W, which is enough to power some GPUs without the need for additional power cables from the PSU, past examples of this have been GTX 750Ti, 1050 and 1050Ti (however some factory OC models did require additional PCIE power cables) which made these cards (especially the low profile versions) desirable for upgrading some smaller prebuilt desktops with a weak 300 - 400W PSU's to be able to run games that they previously had no business of even trying.

    As a student, this setup look cheeper and just better, my school wants the student a decent/good laptop, i have a HP elitbook with a i7 and it cost me 800$ from my father (his old work laptop), My desktop has the same prossesor and a RTX 4080.This setup will make a portable laptop and a home gamaing machine while saving a lot of money, place and time.

    I'm running an egpu enclosure and am dreading being forced onto a new Mac by my company since they don't have EGPU support on Apple silicone.

    Couldn't you also do this with an older PCIe GPU that didn't require external power?

    Ok I have a question, I want to hook up an old quadro k2000 to my laptop which is pretty old as well. Since the quadro doesn’t need any external power would the pci-e adapter still need to be powered?

    the performance over the 1x16 lanes will be hampered as you transport both display output and input over the link.
    This would work best with External screen - 2x performance on that compared on integrated screen.
