    I was extremely disappointed with mine. I reviewed the core ultra 7 and it was not far off with performance but the hardware itself and buttons as you said were literally garbage. It feels very cheap. They should have got community feedback and sent out review samples. They made their own bed with this one and it’s a mess that can’t be fixed imo. The only way they could redeem it is fix the buttons on a claw 2 and totally add more ram. They have way too many services running. Even after debloat. The fact they don’t have a way to adjust vram and also no temp monitor and the the fps counter is lying is wild lol. Who are they fooling?

    I was looking forward to some more competition in this space. Every entry so far had some specific pros & cons, but as you said, the Claw seems to have nothing unique about it. If I want simplicity (but game support limitations) I get a Deck, if I want full Windows functionality & support in a truly portable form factor I get an Ally, if I want basically a small Windows laptop replacement with controllers slapped on the side I get a Legion Go. What does the Claw do better than the others?
    I had a Deck & switched to a Go & after initially really missing the positives of the Deck, I'm now very happy with my choice. Man I miss that super fast sleep & resume though, that's huge for a handheld.

    It's so bad.
    I'm simultneously watching gaming benchmarks from the Steam Deck (not even OLED) with the same games you tested and they're ALL performing better than with the Claw.
    They have higher fps with similar (or higher!) graphics settings.
    And to top it all off, the Deck uses way less power (15W max, iirc) than these.
    Some caveats I'm aware of, though: Deck uses SteamOS (Linux) and also at 800p max res.
    Either way, those won't give justice to how MSI made the Claw.

      Get the Legion go then or replacement joystick for the Ally or deck... Intel sucks with power management and their igpu is a long way from being usable. MSI has been selling garbage since before the pandemic and the quality of any of their components has started to dwindle around the same time as if they switch manufacturing processes just to make it cheaper without doing quality control. If they ever release a Claw 2 with everything fixed and probably an arm based chip or AMD APU then I might give it a look but the current model is really bad

  • @GoldenNada
    @GoldenNada 4 месяца назад

    this issue with the claw is that is uses an intel cpu, the core ultra will never compete with the z1 in this form factor no matter what msi does, this thing was dead before arrival. if msi prices the core ultra 5 model to what the z1 ally cost then they might have a chance as the gimped gpu in the z1 will probably perform about as good in lower power settings and a bit worse in higher power settings. the core ultra 7 well i dont know maybe they can offer it at a price point of 550 but as for 699 and 799 its too expensive for the performance and general user experience as its probably the worst handheld out now.

    • @SIPEROTH
      @SIPEROTH 4 месяца назад

      Yeah Intel doesn't have nether the GPU tech or the driver experience to built a powerful enough integrated graphics system that will compete with AMD.
      Also to my knowledge this chip biggest weakness in the GPU part so the MSI doesn't really need a stronger i7 chip for a gaming handheld since the CPU is already too strong fore the GPU. I don't know if the GPU part on the i7 chip is stronger but if it is then is a waste for MSI and it would have fair better with a custom chip that has the GPU performance of the i7 chip while still keeping the i5 CPU. This way the chip will be more balance and not waste more battery needlessly.
      If the GPU on the i7 chip isn't stronger but only the CPU is then is completely pointless to buy the stronger version of this handheld.

    So no surprise here. Steam deck oled still the king of handheld

  • @jinx20001
    @jinx20001 4 месяца назад

    do you know what the worst thing about this machine is... minimum 20w... also if you check the spec sheet for this intel 155H it actually says it requires 20w minimum and its base operating wattage is 28w... so i would not be too hopeful of a 15w mode coming in future. That's nothing short of a disaster for a handheld device, especially one that should be prime hardware for indie games. The steam deck OLED is amazing precisely because of what it can do with minimal power, i play games all the time at 4w with total system power being around 6w and that gets me 12 hours battery easily... What good is a handheld device playing games like binding of issac, dead cells or balatro, or the thousands of other games like that if the system is stuck at 20w when we know those games run on much much lower power without issue. What were MSI thinking, they must have been paid well from intel. This is what 16 cores gets you, a lot of hardware that will never get used but still needs power to stay active.

    When the Rog Ally and Steamdeck first came out, they were junk and everyone said the category would never survive. The Claw is just fine. It will be optimized with drivers and bios updates over time. I have the Steamdeck, Ally, and i7 claw. But since you’ve been a hater on this since the CES debut, I’ll just not watch your crap in the future. I’m not a fan of tribal fanboys.

      Ok. Not a fanboy though. I'm not a child. It's just not justified to pay over 200 euros more for a device that's not really doing anything better but worse.
      As I said lowering prices and optimizing drivers could help, but intel didn't exactly shine in improving mobile drivers for their igpus in the past. And for me the Button issue is just ridiculous.

      Driver updates or not it is underperforming against older hardware at a higher price tag. You are on real copium if you think it will get flesh out drivers as amd let alone perform under 15 watts as good as the steam deck or over 15 watts as good as the 7840u. It came out in 2024 and still couldn't be bothered to add more vram. That ram is about a $ per gig and they are cheaping out. Everyone knew a long time ago how this was going to turn out and it met peoples expectations perfectly. I think the only thing going for it is on the cpu side emulation will run like a champ. Just wait for strix point to show up and really blow this POS out of the water lmao.

      I mean, anyone who follows the hardware decisions and performance of this Intel chip could see the Claw's lackluster performance coming a mile away.
      And then there are the ergonomics and button letdowns, which I think fewer people saw coming. And in relation to that issue of ergonomics, this becomes a strong argument for the versatility of the Legion Go, now that their rep has confirmed that additional accessories are coming. Not to mention the possibility of aftermarket controllers.

      Not a fanboy to expect a new, more expensive item to perform better than the older items it is imitating. It should at least perform on par to justify the price.
