The Steam Deck is good enough for me. I already have a powerful gaming PC if I want to play something that is very intensive, so the Steam Deck is perfect for streaming my games from my PC or just playing a lot of emulation & indie titles.
A bit of a different take, while battery game is important for me I already have consoles on which I can play new games, I also have an older laptop with gtx970m. I started as a PC gamer back in ‘92, I never fully ditched PC which means I have backlog of games (sales, bundles, giveaways [quite a lot of games, to be frank]) so Steam Deck (in my case OLED) is a great device to explore my backlog. I like the fact I can start a game in which single levels are short and just play a bit (not worrying much about battery life as for such games it is 5-8h examples LEGO builder’s journey - finished it good game, cloud gardens, baba is you). From older bigger titles I now play Batman Origins (around 5h with settings I have on a single battery charge). I also have newer games like The Ascent or GameDec. How I use the device is either during longer travels when I can pick a game I know battery will last me for a few hours, or for shorter sessions in the evening when I’m fine with 2h game time. while Desktop mode is usable with steam Deck controller it is still not optimized for it, but the experience is better than on windows. The gaming mode works for sure better than any windows handheld. What is more with dock and external display I also made deck my main PC (not for gaming but anything else) and it works for me just fine. Sure there are some limitations and I will need to dig deeper to go around them (for example system language change which requires removing RO from system, and the fact scripts needs to be prepared to change the language each time after SD OS update as it simply flashes the whole OS image and overrides used made changes to OS files).
Bro, thanks for this awesome review. I watched a bunch of reviews for all three and still couldn't decide. But, after your review I finally made up my mind and chose the ROG. I love how you used actual gameplay experiences you had and talked about them like you did with the gameplay audio experience for the ROG. A lot of reviewers just talk more on the technical side and not so much on the gaming side.
I just got a legion go last week, I play alot of Anime games on the go and since they're not super resource heavy I get like 3-5 hours of power out of it and I absolutely love it! Once I get somewhere that has an outlet I switch to heavier games, But otherwise were all good! Edit: As far as what you can do? You're doing great. the way you talk is clear and not fake or overbearing! Maybe do some follow up videos on these experience wise, Or how games run on all three etc.
I’m not even fully through the video, and you’ve already answered so many of my questions between the three and it’s been super helpful. Really like that you’ve actually had a good amount of time with each one too, thanks for making a helpful and thorough video 🤙🏽
Bro is quickly becoming my new favorite RUclipsr. Truly a niche community but he does it so well and is super chill. Plus his voice is relaxing and he isn’t too energetic. I think you’re doing just fine
People hyper-obsess over clinical specs that may sound better on paper but your presentation is very practically minded and consumer realistic, and as I’m someone who has not researched this particular market AT ALL, your video single-handedly addresses pretty much all of my questions, and in a very pleasant way. Your audio is top tier and I wouldn’t change anything about it, as long as your workflow is comfortable and efficient for you. You have a great friendly voice and personality for this, which makes your video enjoyable and comfortable as a viewer, and I never got the urge to speed up or skim through. 14 seconds into your video I was hooked! I love how your workspace conveys in the video. I might suggest including a more prominent key light over your hand-cam angle, or alternatively inserting B-Roll shots of the product up close with a clean natural key light. That way you get fully accurate portrayal of texture/material/color shade each product is, while also getting the stylized accent lighting in the background. But that’s more nit-picky, since you do go into great detail about the physicality of each product. The only important suggestion I might make is think about including text/graphics on screen to have another form of feedback for the viewer. If I’m watching on the go in public it will be easier to track your main points, and as a visual learner it helps me in general to have the additional visual feedback to reinforce/go alongside the words you say that might get missed. Thank you for your video, and I’m looking forward to more! Liked and subbed 👍
I personally own a legion go and have been using it every so often for about 4 months. A couple things either grazed over or not mentioned. The legion go has come a LONG way since launch with amazing software updates. Most notably, for me, was deadzone adjustments and configuring the stupid top buttons to start and select, which come naturally as the tdp screen and legion space hotkeys respectively, this update was huge, because i did not want to make a habit of pressing those bottom 2 buttons on the left stick for start and select, feels very unnatural. One thing you grazed over was the fact that you can detach both the left and right controller. This is the only handheld to do so. Yes there will be some wobble over time, but a couple pieces of electrical tape above and below the connector ports for the controllers on the device body fixes this issue, especially with the right one. It comes with VERY WELL MADE kickstand, which I personally use to flip over on my stomach on my bed, pillow under my arms, prop the legion up on the kickstand on the edge of my bed at a perfect angle, take the controllers off, and give myself the freedom of range of motion with wherever i want to rest my arms/hands to play. It took only about a day or 2 of consistent playing to get used to playing with the controllers off. Each controller has a separate individual battery. which lasts a LOOONGGG time. I played for about 2 hours yesterday and my controllers were only at around 95% from 100%. Another thing to think about is windows themselves are working on a new version of windows that is optimized and catered to windows handhelds, so if not being tech savvy is an issue, look out for when the new OS for the handhelds drop. If I think of anything else, I will come back to this comment and make an edit. Great video cyber. Hope my personal feedback with the legion go is useful for somebody. Cheers

You can use the right analog on the ROG Ally as a mouse tho its not that difficult to use left and right click would be your RB and RT I use mouse and sometimes trackpad on my laptop and all I can say is that its just the same as using my laptop so I don't think having no trackpad is a big deal.
Depends, with the Steam Deck you might run into problems with game compatibility especially those which are multiplayer & anti cheat enable. But it’s a solid gaming device from the moment you boot it up and just get straight into gaming. And with Linux as its operating system, it is a lot more optimal with battery depending on the game you play, you get about 2-3 hours with AAA games or 5-6 hours with indie games. On the other hand, with the the ally and legion go, you will get full game compatibility due to it’s using window as its operating system. The problem is window sucked in power consumption & optimisation because window was not met to be build to be as optimal for handheld. Another part you need to know is that you need it to treat it more of a computer, not everything is going to work with the controllers so be prepare to touch the screen a lot which something I would find annoying. Lastly competitive pricing with the cheapest model of the deck is at least 300$ brand new at some places while the ally and its window brothers are selling at 600$ and above. At the end of the day, you are the gamer, you choose what make it comfortable for you and what you truly want. Don’t get mix up into the Steam Deck Vs Ally stuffs blindly. That will be all from me, thanks you for reading.
The Legion Go does sound bad out of the box. But I was quite surprised by how much installing FXSound on it and just running the default profile helped on the sound. It basically just boosted the loudness without distorting or losing clarity. So I'll definitely recommend that. Especially since it's free. It won't get close to the other two because the speakers are still topfiring. But I will say that I think the sound on my Legion Go after installing FXSound is better than the sound on my Switch OLED even though that one has frontfacing speakers.
I wish more phones would have front facing speakers. No matter what you do, top/bottom firing speakers just don't have the clarity and quality without jacking up the volume. When I saw the placement of the Steamdeck speakers I was thrilled, I can hear it so well even at lower volumes.
Every RUclips video complains about the rog with the warranty. I do not care for it. I just want to see what these handhelds are like. YOU Sir, did EXACTLY what I was LOOKING for. You're not being a geeky nerd talking about useless things, you're not just saying specs and saying what is HYPOTHETICALLY better. No, you showed us how each of them play, from an actual GAMERS perspective. Thank you so much. I'm going to wait for the ally x to come out. I wish I could help you out by saying what you could improve, but honestly I loved watching from beginning to end. Thank you. P.s I love the way you talk and the music.
One upgrade that be nice is when your showing the devices off on the table get a bright light over you or maybe a bright head light. I like to check out your goodies. Cheers
@@ODDMAN-g4wdepends on what you plan on gaming. Emulating and games not on steam or any game launcher you will be doing a quite bit of navigating. If you want to debloat and optimize windows for the ally it would be way easier. You don't need it but it makes life easier is all. You can still use your right analog and RB as a mouse in desktop mode so it can def be done without one. That being said I bought one for my Ally
Picked up ROG ally yesterday. Wanted it only because it has native Windows and using it to replace a very aged gaming PC and its incredible. Lots of bugs when I first got it then did all the updates and this thing is one of the best purchases I've made in a while
I travel with my LeGo with ease. It only takes up 10% of my backpack. The screen size and actually being able to play all my PC FPS games is the reason why I got rid of my SD. I strictly use headphones when playing so the speakers aren’t a worry for me.
I'm a non-gamer doing research on these devices for a present. I think this video broke everything down really well and helped me understand what I'm looking for! I really like visuals of the video. Me personally, I wouldn't mind if you spoke faster. I had the video on 1.5x and felt that was a good listening speed, but it's honestly not a big deal. I hope your channel does well!
I got my steam deck for emudeck. I get 4 hours playing ps2 and GameCube games. Perfect for what i need. Until there's more powerful handhelds with better batteries I'm not thinking about AAA titles on the go
I have both, using rog ally as a desktop. I love its power and compatibility. Also when really needed its portable. But steamdeck is my go to device for travelling. Battery life and ease of use is not comparable.
Great review bro. I’ve seen multiple reviews on all 3 of these in comparison and yours was quick and to the point with the basics/pros and cons. Keep it up. 👍🏻
Thanks for explaining this very clearly. I’m a Nintendo and Playstation gamer and don’t know a lot about the Steam deck & anything PC related etc. Very helpful and informative video. Well done! You’ve earned a new sub. Keep it up! 👍
@robifleming Got the legion go! I made the decision because 1. I got it for a steal but 2. The ROG Ally 2 is in the works and schedule to come out later in the year. Also, since it's windows it's great to take my work on the go.
You are doing great dude ! Keep it up ! You are already in a very good level!Just be patient and maybe be active on social media , perhaps reels etc and the viewers will come !
My only tips would be saying bye or thanks for watching at the end at the end. I was listening to the video and thought it was paused because there was no "see ya" but i REALLY appreciate you letting the viewer decide to sub w8thout reminding us because we all know by now we can
That’s super valid. I tend to do that because I lose patience when editing, but I will make sure to implement that from here on out. Thank you for letting me know.
Which one of these devices would be the best for someone in the Navy going on deployment where there will be no wifi/limited resources on the ship? A device where you can just download some games to pick up and olay off line?
Just subscribed. I follow several handheld channels but yours is by far the most relaxing, bordering ASMR sleep 😴 vibes ⚡ not boring, just super soothing and informative, kudos to you sir!
the steam deck was the perfect purchase for me because i play all the big games like AAA on my playstation and the smaller ones on the deck. its truly a blast that im able to play something like modded minecraft or fallout 4 in my hands, on the bed.
I just returned my legion go for an rog Ally. The legion Go is a fantastic device, but the GPU drivers are just way behind the rog Ally and that is why usually you see better performance on the rog Ally. And as much as I hate to admit it, the vrr makes the rog Ally for me. Just an overall better device for pure gaming compared to the legion Go
I got a couple issues with the Video. You said the best durability was the Legion Go, while holding the Rog Ally. Which is it? You also said the Rog Ally has too many controls while holding the Legion Go and then u bring up Legion controls. These things have confused me because i believe you miss labeled.
Tips to improve this video. Speak a little quicker with a bit more enthusiasm. You sound happy and calm which is nice but almost too calm which makes me sleepy. The information is great and how much you covered is fantastic. The only other thing I can think of is to make these types of videos more conversational. Ask more questions to encourage commenters. Like what’s your favorite part of the system. What do you hate about this system? Did I miss anything? Hope those tips help. Keep up the good work!
great vid! love your calm voice! there was a slip of the tongue on 8:29(Legion GO instead of Rog Ally :D) To me i hope one day i'll get SD OLED cz of it's support and console like expirience. May be one day we'll see windows handheld OS but until then only SD
I think as a content creator you've got a casual way of presenting your video which is great. Especially when people want to spend their own money on things, i've always prefered a more casual and slow approach to it. And i think you're presentation was perfect. Thumbs up man.
keep in mind with the battery life that if run at the same resolution and power as the steamdeck (so 800p and 15w) the rog ally and ESPECIALLY the lenovo legion go are about on par (or better for the lenovo), its not fair to compare them at their max when ally and lenovo are twice as powerful and have higher resolutions, gotta put them on the same wattage, resolution and brightness for a fair test. And in that case they're pretty similar. Also, rog ally and lenovo charge twice as fast as the steamdeck.
I just wanted to say I appreciate your speaking voice and volume, tech videos with over the top, loud RUclipsr voices are so annoying. Very well done! Thanks for the video.
Something that would be neat is if you could add all the things you mentioned about each handheld into a simple description. So if someone were to compare it for others, keep it written down for once they'd like to buy the product or whatever it may be used for. I'm trying to make some myself but I feel like I got some info wrong like misheard or what not. I don't think it'll take too long to do especially if you already have some points written down when you make these videos, although I don't know if it would be. Plus It'll probably help people with this or other videos you make. (Also I have an awful memory so having it noted down helps since i already forgot some things while writing this) Otherwise really informative and its nice knowing you actually used the devices for longer than a day like some peoples reviews go. Keep doing that. Not just test the devices out the box but a few months or a year after use so we will know about the longevity. I appreciate knowing that the rog ally doesn't have a good battery for AAA titles unlike the steam deck.
The main job of VRR is to eliminate screen tearing when playing games. Tearing is a kind of visual glitch, where the image on your TV shudders mid-frame before carrying on as before. So i am thinking 40 50 60 fps would have 2 to 3 hz for everyone frame. So seems like vrr would be less needed. Seems more of a selling feature then a need. From what i seen you have to look at the corners to even see a bit of something. Feels like when people say deck not runing windows so you dont have to deal with updates and some fooling atound as they say. But just windows like your computer, no real big deal. Games are all made to run on windows in the first place. Any thoughts? or am i just a lost boy lol cheers
Love this review. Most of the reviews about these handheld gaming devices are that they only talk about how good they are on papers and not how good they actually are in real life situations. I need to know how realistically these devices perform so this review is really for me
I absolutely love my Steam Deck OLED. I loved it so much that it led me to buy the ROG Ally because of FOMO. They are both awesome to be honest, but I returned the Ally because I think the Steam Deck OLED is just a bit more balanced and refined overall. It does what I want it to do and it does it very well. And I have my powerful desktop PC for anything else or for when I want that high end experience.
I'm 100% in agreement with you. I already have a $7,000 beast of a machine, crazily enough I somehow find myself spending more time on my Steam Deck OLED. If I feel the urge to Max out all the settings in my game my desktop PC is there ready to go, but there's just something about gaming in bed while my wife is watching her favorite TV shows.
Great video. Very casual and nicely organized. Speaking objectively, my suggestion would be to tighten up your closing. Since it's so difficult to definitively answer the inevitable "which one is best" question, instead maybe call out which you'd keep if you could only keep one. By the end of the video I felt you'd established enough viewer credibility to conclude the presentation with your choice, rather than re-hash the "it depends" answer. It'll probably be easier to write too, since you can work backwards from your conclusion. Great job! Subbed. :)
I really enjoyed your video, really nicely done, very calming and informative. I think the points you brought up and how you reviewed the items was good. Great video. Good luck with the channel.
Great points. I wanted a retro emulation handheld. I did have an odin 2 but screen only 6 inches. I went for Legion Go as I wanted best experience for ps2 and gamecube emulation and the steam deck although can play them its not as good as legion Go as I've tried them side by side. The battery isnt anything to worry about as its not like I'm expecting demanding AAA games. And for my 50 year old eyes the large screen is outstanding especially older systems like snes, ps1 and gameboy advance. Thanks for uploading
Love the flow of the review. It's informative and you're well articulated, your voice really convinced me with the steam deck!! Do your thing mate, you're good at this
Thank you for video! I have Legion Go and it awesome, but you're right about it's quality. I take it to any place I go in it's case and try not to drop it. But still there appeared a problem with M3 button (second Btn on right controller). It just stuck inside after press :c I'm glad that no bind is on it
Since you asked for tips, I'd just say try and work on the voice-over, not sure if you overlapped clips or stumbled with words but some things were repeated in the same sentence, and some of the script sounded wordy. Willing to bet someone else mentioned it but what the hell. Anyway great video besides, I've been a little unsure about the Ally as far as how it stands against competitors but you definitely helped change that!
This video was amazing and you explained everything super well, I had no clue you only had 11k subs until you mentioned it keep it up and you will fs grow substantially
I found a power bank that magnetizes to the back of the ROG ally and it makes it last 3 or 4 hours in turbo mode. Really nice if you ask me. On top of that i have a 65 watt car charger so if i ever take a long trip, ill still get tubo mode with the 64w charger. So, problem solved. Ill take incredible resolution and fps everday if it means car chargers and power banks. It looks way better then the steam deck. Just gotta optimize it. Set the gpu to 6g, the battery to 20w, and turn cpu boost off and it runs amazing. Mw3 does 1920x1080 100 to 110 fls and looks incredible.
I love the rog ally the only thing it really lacks is the battery I get about 1 hr of it for ratchet and clank rift… I always carry a portable charger with me tho so it’s not really a problem
Got my sub bro. Great vid! Also you are a spitting image of my nephew and same calm demeanor. No joke I texted him and asked him if he’s doing RUclips now lol 😂
will need to stick with the steamdeck as its the only handheld with two good trackpads. I use custom configs for all my games and I like them more than the joysticks 80% of the time
Loved the video, paired with the thumbnail I didn’t realize until well into the video that you have only have 8k subs. You deserve way more!

Same for me, for the hand-held, battery life is more important, if I want the best graphics possible, I'd use my PC.
You know if I can stream my ea sport games on my deck ?
Bro, thanks for this awesome review. I watched a bunch of reviews for all three and still couldn't decide. But, after your review I finally made up my mind and chose the ROG. I love how you used actual gameplay experiences you had and talked about them like you did with the gameplay audio experience for the ROG.
A lot of reviewers just talk more on the technical side and not so much on the gaming side.
Would you still recommend ROG ally? I'm looking into buying one
@@Jose-or3zwget the steam deck
I just got a legion go last week, I play alot of Anime games on the go and since they're not super resource heavy I get like 3-5 hours of power out of it and I absolutely love it! Once I get somewhere that has an outlet I switch to heavier games, But otherwise were all good! Edit: As far as what you can do? You're doing great. the way you talk is clear and not fake or overbearing! Maybe do some follow up videos on these experience wise, Or how games run on all three etc.
Bigger screen also is good for subtitles
@@acutelilmint8035 Absolutely true! I also use it alot to watch shows when I'm in my office which often times is also subbed anime lol
Buy a powerbank, it's worth it. It could last you 2+hour if you're playing 3A game on balance mode, and 1.5 hour on perfomance
@Tyler-l5s Fate Samurai Remnant, DragonBall Figherz, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Etc
I’m not even fully through the video, and you’ve already answered so many of my questions between the three and it’s been super helpful. Really like that you’ve actually had a good amount of time with each one too, thanks for making a helpful and thorough video 🤙🏽
Which one you went with?
Cheers
I also own a legion go and agree it’s been really good. Though I’m only one month in

You can use the right analog on the ROG Ally as a mouse tho its not that difficult to use left and right click would be your RB and RT I use mouse and sometimes trackpad on my laptop and all I can say is that its just the same as using my laptop so I don't think having no trackpad is a big deal.
Killing it with this video. One of the best handheld comparison videos I’ve seen, maybe the best.
bro is ur profile pic lake powell? Thanks too
Depends, with the Steam Deck you might run into problems with game compatibility especially those which are multiplayer & anti cheat enable.

Thank you.

@@ODDMAN-g4w for windows and gaming and you can use steam OS.
Lots of bugs when I first got it then did all the updates and this thing is one of the best purchases I've made in a while
Hello, do you still stand by this opinion
I travel with my LeGo with ease. It only takes up 10% of my backpack. The screen size and actually being able to play all my PC FPS games is the reason why I got rid of my SD. I strictly use headphones when playing so the speakers aren’t a worry for me.
Super informative video, I loved the chill vibe! I will definitely be coming back to this channel for more reviews with this style of video
I love my Legion Go ❤. You had help me purchase it last night
Heck yessss you’re gonna freaking love it
The best screen of all. I also love mine!
love mine too! using steam's big picture mode makes it so much better too
Waiting o my tax refund to come in whenever that is 😢 but I’ll definitely be picking up a Legion Go thanks to you 😊
Hey, do you want to buy me one too?
I pick the go.. i really haven’t picked up my steam since i got the go.. the extra power and the bigger screen really isn’t he deal breaker for me
I'm a non-gamer doing research on these devices for a present.
I've owned all three. ROG Ally is my favorite
Why is that?
Great review bro. I’ve seen multiple reviews on all 3 of these in comparison and yours was quick and to the point with the basics/pros and cons. Keep it up. 👍🏻
The Skyrim music you put at the end of the video is a really nice touch
The background music of this game is just legendary

Great video. I've been very happy with my Steam deck + Playstation 5 combo. Feels like I'm pretty much set when it comes to gaming.
Build a PC and see how that goes. An actual gaming PC is next level compared to what you're used to.

Amazing review, great takes!
Interesting that you uploaded this right when I was looking around to buy one of them this week lol
What did you get
@robifleming Got the legion go! I made the decision because 1. I got it for a steal but 2. The ROG Ally 2 is in the works and schedule to come out later in the year. Also, since it's windows it's great to take my work on the go.
Love my oled steam deck. It is perfect for the type of games I want to play on the go. The oled screen is beautiful too.

You are doing great dude ! Keep it up ! You are already in a very good level!Just be patient and maybe be active on social media , perhaps reels etc and the viewers will come !
Yeah you’re right about that for sure. I might hire a shorts editor and pump those out once I get enough RUclips money to pay for one
Excellent video man seriously well thought out and very informative!
Got my PC a few months ago. Thinking about getting a hand held now. Good video chief
Which one of these devices would be the best for someone in the Navy going on deployment where there will be no wifi/limited resources on the ship? A device where you can just download some games to pick up and olay off line?
steam deck brother
Keep up the good work!
great vid! love your calm voice!
there was a slip of the tongue on 8:29(Legion GO instead of Rog Ally :D)
To me i hope one day i'll get SD OLED cz of it's support and console like expirience.
Oh dude that’s awesome thanks man
My biggest criticism is that sometimes you mixed up the Ally and Legion Go. Other than that, I liked the video. good job 🙂
keep in mind with the battery life that if run at the same resolution and power as the steamdeck (so 800p and 15w) the rog ally and ESPECIALLY the lenovo legion go are about on par (or better for the lenovo), its not fair to compare them at their max when ally and lenovo are twice as powerful and have higher resolutions, gotta put them on the same wattage, resolution and brightness for a fair test.
(Also I have an awful memory so having it noted down helps since i already forgot some things while writing this)
Otherwise really informative and its nice knowing you actually used the devices for longer than a day like some peoples reviews go.
Subbed great hearing different train of thinking. Not agree fully but I think that's a good thing. Love the information thanks
Got the Ally Extreme. Thank you! If I have one tip, it's that you get real monstera plants. They're super easy. 😊
Broooooo I’ve been wondering what those are. Just looked it up. Yeah ima get some
Great content man, I like the casual discussion format- it’s like a buddy is telling me about these devices!
Thanks for clarifying. I'm definitely getting the Rog Legion Deck now!
Hahaha that was funny
Awesome review! You seem like the most chill dude ever
Great job! Subbed. :)
What handheld should i get? I play games like terraria, stardew valley, teardown and a ton of simulator games
Steamdeck would be good for that because suspend/resume and longer battery life to play on the coutch or somethintg

This was a great video, thank you. I'm in the market for a handheld and this was a beautiful breakdown of each.

I have the same exact gripe with my Lego.
The handles have become a bit wobbly from just using it a lot.
So far the best explanation! keep up the good work mate :)
Thanks for this review. It convinced me to wait for the steamdeck 2.
Steam Deck 1 is pretty damn impressive as is.
Name of that powerbank?
