the film was filmed to portray marie Antoinette's emotions that's why the music ans speech isn't century accurate, so that the audience can better understand what she was feeling and going through ( obvs the music should be something from that century but would we really get how mental and fun that party was if it was classical music that we don't party to today )
That is the proposal: break your expectation. Instead of a baroque/galant orchestra playing music of that period the director chose modern music to show us the modernity of those days. Everthing that happen in Marie Antoniette's times is very updated.
The ending of this is so relatable thinking back to being a teenager. When the end of the night dawns it felt exactly like this. The night is less busy and the music lessens 💖🌸
@@eugeniawong249 ... Ehhm, what?! 😆 How did Batman or his costume get into this? I didn't suggest any particular symbolism (though I'm kinda guessing the costume department wanted Dornan to look straight at Dunst to demonstrate the character's clear, unvarnished intentions, which he doesn't hide behind a mask), but even if I had done so, what did Dornan ever have to do with The Dark Knight Rises?! 🤔 That would be Christian Bale. If you had referred to Dornan's many S&M scenes in Fifty Shades, I would at least get your post! ...though I myself didn't mean to imply that with my mask comment. 😄
Now take a moment to think about just how many staff members a place like that would need every night to keep every candle, every wall sconce lamp, and every chandelier each containing up to 30 candles lit and filled. A fully illuminated dance hall would have the equivalent of a 40-60 watt overhead bulb and that would require at least 1000 candles and 50-100 wick lamps.

Hello, Is this the Temporal Investigations? for time travel related incidents? Listen, there is some time travel schmuck that plays 1980s new wave hit music on some 1770s royal ballroom in versailles, france.
They never get the rouge right in these period pieces. It’s laid on thick in this scene but it was much darker and in an upside down triangle shape onto the lower cheeks to mimic where a real blush would occur. It must be too bizarre for our delicate modern eyes
This a cool movie. It would have been so rare to film this in the 1990s or 2000s. We had a film like this called Titanic and a film about flying geese south for the winter. There was a bunch of films fo 1990s. In BC there was a lot of films about happy things like 10 things I hate about you.
It looks like the Opera of Paris. It was built during the 19th century.
Is this the music which was composed for this series? Disco? for a scene which is supposed to represent an 18th century royal gathering? Are there viewers of this series who like this music, for this scene?
Haha. So many wrong things in the same sentence. This is Hong Kong Garden by Siouxie and the Banshees. It was not composed for this film*. It is not a royal gathering. Then again, Coppola said the choice of rock music was intentional... It's supposed to represent MA's rock and roll youth before she became Queen
Your questions make no sense. But if you’re suggesting that this music is inappropriate to represent what is supposed to be an 18th century party, then let me tell you that Sofia Coppola herself choose the movie soundtrack in a way that people can relate to the young queen, as well to represent the refreshing and normal teen that Marie Antoinette could have been, ofc in a modern way.

To be honest i dont like marie antoinette the movie or the historical figure is that okay? I like other kinds of history like islamic history is that also okay?
Sofia using 80s music is just so over the top and perfect!
True. The decade was full of glamour and excess, and it fits in with the film.
Is absolutely horrible and ridiculous
Not an 80s track. Post punk 70s Siouxsie and the Banshees.
Be quiet!
you are so right!!

I’m forever glad my favourite movie is getting the love it deserves. I’ve been defending it forever 😭😭
Yes. The purpose of this movie was to capture her spirit. A lot of people kind of missed that.

Sofia Coppola is undoubtedly, a great director.
magic that only sofia coppola can do!
It just hit me that Count Fersen a.k.a. Jamie Dornan is the only one without a mask.
It's not though
This isn’t Bruce Wayne in that Dark Knight Rises scene…nothing symbolic here

The guy talking to Louis at 1:36 also doesn't have a mask.
Love siouxsie and the banshees, it just works with the theme
awesome soundtrack
I think this movie is perfectly directed and my sister said Sofia Coppola is mousey. I'm like... what does that matter if she has talent and vision.

This is an artistic movie, not a documentary. Nothing is quite right, music, costumes, makeup, perfect teeth.

1:53 nasty... was he talking to the Louis like that?
he did not know it was Louis cause they were at a masquerade in paris
He was saying he'd like to bed the queen
I wonder if that really happened ?? 😂😂😂

The election of today s music is so incredibly accurate and gives the perfect atmosphere.
the ball scene is filmed at the Paris Opera which was not built until the end of 1872 😂😂😂

I just think a music is all wrong. I know why it was selected etc etc I just think it was all wrong
The point of putting in modern 80's-2000's music was to represent that Marie was only just a teen and to remind us of being young, naive and partying.
