    How Sophia managed to get the actual buildings of Versailles to shoot her picture in was a miracle in itself. Her inventive use of punk and alternative music was the most interesting innovation, and when you think of it was the kind of music that young people of Antoinette's age would have actually listened to at the time had it been the 20th century. I think this film was largely underrated.

    This was such a visually opulent movie. I LOVED IT SO MUCH. I remember this was in the September issue of VOGUE.

    I read the book by Antonia Fraser as well as six other books on MA. Sofia did portray actual events without boring the viewer or making them feel like the film was a lesson on French history or a biopic by on MA. She did an incredible job. I think Sofia also understood that the film should be visually beautiful- and it was.

    Could you imagine filming in the very same place that it actually happened?

    I have read many books on Marie Antoinette. Excited when this was coming out but then disappointed at its use of a modern vehicle. THEN I saw it and I understood! How perfect that Sophia told this story from the psyche of the consummate TEENAGER. Exactly what she was which puts her errs in perspective. I grew up in the '80s and to me the '80s was the decade of the teenager. Quie surprisingly perfect.

      I am a Gen x two and from what little I have learned she wasn't as bad as history has said. From what I heard she actually adopted missed fortunate children and they at least tried to help people I think half of it was the politicians and elites witch were probably the same thing. I need to see this movie at some point it looks like it will be cool.

    Sophia is an absolute mastermind. And this movie really helped me Marie's story on such a deep, heartfelt level. I wish the Royal Family didn't experience the downfall they did. It was awful.

    Omg the amount of hairspray used just for her to be laying in place in a bathtub 😂 I think that lady was just trying to look busy at work 💀

      She sprayed a ton then added powder for the look of the time, she then “sets” it with more hairspray. You’d be surprised how much is used just for a look

      The powder part was historically accurate, the hair was very powdered in the time this movie is set

    I remember watching this as an extra on the DVD when it came out. I used to be the assistant manager of a video store back then, when I was a teenager. I watched the movie once, and then rewatched it again straight away. Of course, we didn’t have RUclips or streaming on demand back then, like people do today!
    The only other movie I’ve done that with is The Witch, which I can confidently say is my favourite horror movie - I haven’t seen anything to surpass it since - and by then streaming was a thing.
    I didn’t know anything about either film going in, which I think made both a pleasant surprise.

    It’s cool how they played the song that was played at the masquerade in the film, during the actual filming of that scene. Do all movies usually do that when filming? I thought music is usually added after.

    • @filmmaker610
      @filmmaker610 Год назад +7

      Yes, movies productions (even like music videos) do that in scenes to get the actors and extras in the right mood, dance choreography for the scene.

    • @TwoBs
      @TwoBs Год назад +5

      Yea. Sometimes they’ll play a completely different song to get a certain vibe from the crowd for specific shots, then add in another song they want to go over everything.
      More often than not, though, when you watch behind the scenes footage where a crowd is dancing, they’re playing the song they want (or a version of it). It just makes everything seem much more real and natural as opposed to weirdly choreographed dances to silence. Especially when there are conversations being held between others as a song plays in the background.
      Of course, they’ll isolate the audio when there is talking and tweak it a bit so everything sounds clean, then add in a more high quality sounding version of the song to go over everything/use in the background…

    All time fave. An incredible vision of a woman who never truly came into her own.
    If I could say anything to Sophia, I would offer her a challenge. Make a movie about Erzabet Bathory as a bookend to Marie Antoine! The dark to counter the light! 😍
