I can’t believe The Virgin Suicides was her first film. It had such a big impact on me, she truly captured this whimsy throughout with an undertone of sadness and intense nostalgia. I’ll never forget it. And the soundtrack? Perfection.
I had the same thought. Imagine your first three movies are Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, and Marie Antoinette - completely singular and groundbreaking. It may be cinema blasphemy, but I think she is a far more interesting filmmaker than her father.
Imagine if you purchased the book it came with a private link to a series of videos of Sofia going fully through the book and talking about it just like this one!!that would be cool
It’s so sad the public and the critics at the time didn’t understand what a cult classic Marie Antoinette would become over the years. It kind of change how period films are told.
A photographer with a great eye, an artist, a fashion literary, a mature woman of the globe, unpretentious, sophisticated, stylish, educated, considered in her choices … & a writer / director with an Oscar under her wing who walks with her father’s foot print with ease & grace - Francis. A pretty stunning LIFE if you ask me. What an accomplishment. Go Sofia Coppola. 🇮🇹🎬🎥🖋💪🏼The stories she could tell at a dinner table. WOW !
I'll never forget the first time I saw Marie Antoinette in the movie theatre. It inspired me so much. The colour palette, makeup, costumes, architecture just really made my imagination run wild. I was just a teenager. I was a huge art nerd and into painting, drawing and makeup. Now I'm an adult and I'm lucky enough to have a creative career. I will still watch that movie when I feel uninspired and it still inspires me to dream.
Marie Antoinette is one of my favorites. I especially love that scene where they watch the sunrise after the party -- it captures that youthful energy that you feel directly after a big event.
sofia coppola is one of the most prolific directors i’ve ever seen. her movies are so beautiful and portray the female perspective so well, and she was never afraid of doing such rather than pandering to the male dominated industry ❤ marie antoinette and the virgin suicides really changed my life as a teen girl
Love love Sofia! Discovered her at 19 and thought she was the coolest, was obsessed with Hi Octane and just her aesthetic! So cool to see her gaining more traction, she’s one of my faves of all time. ❤
Lost in Translation is my absolute favourite movie of all time. Thanks Sofia for making such a beautiful film which continues to cast a spell over me no matter how many times I watch it :)
3:57 Johnny Knoxville’s daughter Madison! Wow I was already 99.9% sure the movie Somewhere was based on his early Hollywood days and his relationship with his daughter but Sofia never confirmed it so this is interesting

As I love soft spoken asmr, this video is perfect to me!
i am such a big fan of Sofia she's just absolutely talented, im purely shocked that the virgin suicides was her first film, its one of the most beautiful and best films ive ever seen. She is probably my favourite director, i want to study film just for her and her impact on the film industry is so inspiring
Thankyou for lost in translation it really captures the emotions of self isolation and the magic of finding that connection in a foreign land , that will always stay with me as a kid , and gave me something that cinema will never replicate, it's a timepiece of human connectivity in a time that was on the cusp mass connection, it speaks to today's culture through something which is lost and the ability to take on narratives and emotions one could not understand growing up today, well done Sofia Coppola, Japan a place where traditions vanish and meet the taboo of loneliness , in the face of our ever fading familiarity 🖤
I ordered my edition back in, November? I’m not sure but I received it a week ago. My son saw it and asked, What’s this? He liked it. Somewhere is one of his favorite movies. For me the book is worth the $60 I paid for it.
The Madison she points too with Elle fanning I believe is Johnny knoxvilles daughter as he has a daughter named Madison. I don’t think I’m blowing the lid off anything here as people who have analyzed “somewhere” have made comparisons to Knoxville as inspiration with his daughter for the main characters not to mention Chris Pontius in the movie and also Sofia was married to spike jonze one of the creators of jackass. Again not blowing the lid off anything here but interesting
Also fun fact - The friend Madison, is actual Madison Clapp who is the daughter of Johnny Knoxville, Johnny Knoxville obviously did Jackass which spike jonze worked on, which we obviously know was sofias ex ❤

Would love a version of this that is edited to be longer. It's a big book and she must've said lots of other things too lol
I agree! I would really like a 2 hour video :')
Imagine if you purchased the book it came with a private link to a series of videos of Sofia going fully through the book and talking about it just like this one!!that would be cool
@@zenformind Perfect idea! That would be so lovely

“Kirsten is like a sister to me” 😢😢
the bling ring is so underrated actually.
“It’s not that I think I’m ugly, I just don’t think I look A-list.”
- Bling Ring (paraphrased movie quote)
i can’t believe The Virgin Suicides was her first movie. she NAILED IT. it’s been my favorite movie forever.
It’s iconic 🩵
I love how expressive she is with her hands - I do that a lot.
Must be that Italian blood lol
@@scholarchang6249 My family is Italian so figure.
I was going to say the same thing! I talk with my hands so I love seeing others do so too.

She’s such an incredible director and filmmaker. I love every film that she makes.
She’s the only person who’s nepotism is welcomed.
I love her. And it’s probably because she wasn’t forced into it. She fell into it after failing. She was 29 when virgin came out! nice
And the rest of the Coppola family - Jason Schwartzman, Nick Cage, Roman Coppola... Their nepotism is accepted too
whose*
I’ll tell you theres countless nepos who are welcome
mother is serving as usual !

I'd buy that book. Beautiful!
One of the most underrated auteurs of our time. If her movies were about the male perspective she’d be hailed as one of the greats.
I love this woman so much ❤
I think I simply enjoy everything Sofia gets into
Sofia u seem more friendly being on youtube than instagram it's just the way u are made❤❤😂😂
One of my most favorite directors.
So cool and so brilliant but humble
The coronation scene in Marie Antoinette with music by The Cure (Plainsong) blew me away in the theater!
She is such an icon, the best visionaries

Debating whether I should buy this for myself ❤ I wanted to meet her in London but I missed it 😢

Is this book open to public to buy? It's a gem!
I love her at the Godfather III and I love The Bling Ring. She might have been my fave female filmmaker/director.
