    Ramly Burger has a unique concept not found anywhere else. It is not a burger joint like McD or Burger King. It can be found at the frozen food section of supermarkets. You can cook it at home or you can make money from it by opening up a burger stall. It has provided a means of steady income for many young struggling malays to try a hand at starting their own small business with ready product and with small capital. From there they can use their own creativity to create their own version of Ramly burger. Some are really good. Some not so much. For me personally, I love me some Ramly burger every now and then be it home cooked or from the streets.

  • @azharel
    @azharel 5 месяцев назад +19

    When Ben shares his thoughts on Ramly burgers, it's important to remember that taste is a very personal experience. Just like some Malaysians adore Ramly burgers due to their familiar flavors, others might find them unfamiliar.
    Traveling often involves trying new things, and sometimes those experiences might not quite match our expectations. It's completely understandable to share honest feedback, just like we would with any other food.
    Perhaps considering a similar scenario might help: someone unfamiliar with strong cheeses might find Roquefort cheese quite intense. Not for many Malaysians.
    By keeping an open mind and appreciating the diversity of preferences, we can foster a spirit of cultural exchange and avoid taking things personally.
    So guys, just enjoy his videos and do not take this thing too seriously.

    Actually many foreigners are misled by other RUclipsrs on the true meaning of Ramly burgers. RB is not brand like McD or BK. There's no SOP to cooking a "Malaysian RB", even the patty does not come from Ramly brand. So there's no point in saying "Wow...RB is best burger i had....". Next time just say which burger stall in which location is the best, thats it.

    I can often relate to your small misadventures in Kuala Lumpur. I've actually given up on Ramly Burgers for the most part because the burger stalls I've tracked down are never open. I've made deliberate trips across the city and to neighborhoods I'm familiar with on multiple occasions to snack on a Ramly Burger only to be disappointed. They are never open. So I just stopped trying.
    I guess there are a couple of well-known spots like this one that you found. They are featured in a lot of RUclipsr vlogs. But if I ever just pick a Ramly Burger outlet on Google Maps in whatever neighorhood I'm in, they are always closed. Even the time of day doesn't seem to matter. 😀 I'm glad you finally found one. And this guy was very accommodating to your special order.

    Hi Ben, my husband and I appreciate the honesty in this video! I am happy that you read the ingredient list to inform your viewers of the contents of the patty. Malaysians are not aware of it! I grew up eating Ramly burgers occasionally but living in the US has made me become more informed of what food companies put in their food. Sprouts and Whole Foods are our go to supermarkets, but we’re seeing Albertsons or Walmart selling more healthy conscious food now. Even though what you said is right about McD’s burgers are 100% beef, they are still unhealthy considering what they feed the cows, how they treat the animals and electrocute them for the meat.
    My husband is a celiac and so we have to be very careful of what he eats and most of the time I cook for him. I cook him true Malaysian food, with fresh herb ingredients and spices. If you are interested in eating more healthy, get out of KL and eat more kampung-style food where it’s more fish and vegetable-based food. Or you can even visit the markets. You will find fresh ingredients.
    I do think originally Malaysian food is healthy but it has become unhealthy. Also, FYI Malaysia is the most obese country in Southeast Asia lol

    • @benfishermin
      @benfishermin  5 месяцев назад +3

      Sprouts and Whole Foods are both great, I used to buy all of my meat from Whole Foods, definitely high quality. Honestly most Malaysians are not too concerned about health in general. I've been told majority of Malaysians don't like to walk and they don't really concern themselves with what ingredients are in the food. Every restaurant uses vegetable oil at the very least, so I hate that I can't cook my meals at the moment. Yea McD is still unhealthy no question, I haven't actually eaten it or any similar places in many years now. There's two places I like to go in KL that are Malay food and it's much cleaner than the indian muslim style places. The curries are more thin and no sugar, and they have several green veggie dishes with things like spinach and bok choy. I can't wait to start cooking my meals again. Thanks for the comment.

    Kena betulkan mindset nih:
    1. Jangan compare burger MCD dgn RB sbb target market pun dah x sama....org nak makan RB sbb nak lebih kenyang dan penuh rasa rempah dan sauce...bukan sbb nak rasa patty ada rasa soya atau tak. Klu nak sangat yg rasa daging shj, order lah burger MCD, tapi tak boleh lah dapat makan kenyang macam makan RB.
    Masalah ko nih, nak buat food review tp allergic plak....baik ko tukar title "adakah patty Ramly allergic kepada saya?"
    2. Intention nak buat food review pun dah tak betul...
    ....klu nak review burger, makan jer apa yg org dah siapkan, baru boleh panggil review burger RB.
    Klu dah tahu allergic, order burger 1 patty jer lah...tak payah sampai 3 patty.. ko nak rasa jer pun.
    Klu rasa sekali gigit pun dah allergic kronik, tak payah lah buat food review....sebab orang lain pun takkan tahu apa rasa sebenar burger tuh.
    3. Mindset bagi sedekah kat malaysia nih ialah supaya orang yg bagi sedekah tuh dapat didik jadi lebih humble, bukan hanya pasal pengemis tuh nak makan atau tak.
    Senang kata,lain kali klu boleh rasa satu gigit burger sahaja, minta staller tolong potong empat burger tuh...ko makan satu bahagian jer.
    Lagi 3 bahagian bagi kat pengemis...barulah ikut budaya orang Malaysia.
    Apapun semoga enjoy travel di Malaysia..
    Kalau betul2 dah kronik allergy tuh, cuba lah buat content lain dulu sementara cari jalan pulihkan penyakit tuh.

    I had problems when living in Thailand because the local food has so much sugar and salt and all those things that are what makes it delicious. My stomach really gave me a lot of problems. I'm not allergic to dairy so I try to stick to just animal products as much as possible. I've heard great things about the carnivore diet for healing especially in relation to digestion issues, and autoimmune disorders.
    Maybe the locals don't like you calling their favourites piles of garbage! Also perhaps the words very inexpensive are better than saying something is cheap.
    I think everyone appreciates your honesty 😊

    • @benfishermin
      @benfishermin  5 месяцев назад

      Nice it's worth trying at least to see how you like it. And the carnivore diet is a life changer, it really heals my body when I follow it. Since I got to Malaysia I haven't had a kitchen so I fell off of my strict carnivore diet, but I was strict with it for about a year and it almost completely healed me. But I had too many overboard binges since then which knocked me out of balance again. Yea I think some people mistook it as "this is cheap for us westerners" when I really meant that it's rather cheap for Kuala Lumpur, for a burger with 3x patties. I mean the official definition of the word cheap is actually just "relatively low in price, or inexpensive" but maybe the word inexpensive sounds better for some folks. Thanks for the commment.

    Hey Ben I'm a burger expert any Burger that's got soy in it that comes in a package is terrible I don't know who would tell you to eat there... There is Five Guys at the mall it's freaking great with free iced tea refills but you will pay the price is US price in ringit you're going to think you're eating at a five-star hotel or something it is so expensive... But it's freaking great..

    • @benfishermin

      That's why I was surprised how famous these patties are. Regardless of the price, even if they were 1 ringgit for the burger, I think I was just surprised that they were pre-packaged patties mixed with soy and additives. If this is what all can afford and you enjoy it + don't really care about health then of course go for it. Or in a late night pinch yea sure. There's clearly no comparison though with a real beef burger. Some people are getting emotional over this video acting as if I slighted them personally which is rather interesting.

    I think it might just be the way the burger (all of it, including the patty) is prepared. Every single roadside burger joint is going to taste different, some are absolutely amazing, and some are just meh. I reckon you got the lesser experience. And please don't mind the salty comments, the burger is very deeply rooted in Malaysian culture, because believe it or not, not everyone can afford MCD, KFC (borderline luxury food to some), so when roadside burger joints existed, it was a godsend. Like them or hate them, it's definitely cultural and a point of pride of Malaysians when it comes to these burgers, so it's expected to receive a little saltiness when reviewing these burgers. just my 2 cents

    Ben, I need to tell you this… Malaysians are happy people bcos we do not have a majority of people like you (from advance countries) when something does not taste like the one we like, we usually give them the benefit of the doubt.
    This we can’t deny… cos a lot of times, even food that our kids loved… we don’t like too (not illegal stuff ya) but what matters, as long as our kids find happiness and fulfillment we kind of accept cos we really can’t dictate the best… not good in terms of health, we let our children eat less but not to ban… that’s how we should threat everyone like they are family too… don’t mean to upset you but hope you understand how we feel. However, if you want real meat for burgers, there’s a lot of other options too in KL… btw, me & hubby don’t eat ramly burgers but our boys find it nice and we never ‘thrashed’ it like the way you did… am still liking you being here in Malaysia but at the same time hope you find happiness like we do…

I think beef is hard to get sponge bread would be challenging. There are some Australian mustard brands ketchup in us in Australia It is very difficult to find the ingredients.. But I think it could be sourced locally and then you could give Five Guys a run for their money because I think they are importing everything

      Five Guys is excellent and so is Shake Shack! Besides in-and-out which is also great but isn't here of course, those are in my opinion the best fast food burgers.

      Yeah Five guys at Pavillon is good. You pay about US prices but it is good when you want an American burger. @@benfishermin

      @@benfishermin the really crazy part is McDonald's is the best hamburger place in Japan the other places just really suck... It does not take much to beat McDonald's and McDonald's rules Japan with an iron fist.. I was going to contact some of the losing hamburger places and let them pay me $200,000 to consult to bring their businesses up to par.

    RN will not taste tahat good when you dont put the right ingredients. Just like when you are cooking fish and not putting the necessary ingredients the fish will taste bad.
    I suggest when you go for travel just bring along your food from The US since you have do much complains

      Also, I have migrated to New Zealand and we use 100% mince beef and mix with grated onions and then some flour and make them into petties for burgers with sources.

    omg you called it garbage..am loss for words...if you want 100% beef you gotta pay for it and do fine dining in KL which would cost more than in the US if you gonna convert.You shouldn't be trying the food here with your tons of allergies.Was shocked when the guy had to discard 3patties coz you can't take soy sauce.That is money lost😮This conduct won't be accepted in your country.I know coz i have been to the US tons of times.Am speechless😮😮for your information MC D is halal but it's not 100% beef ya

    • @benfishermin

      There are burger stalls selling 100% beef burgers in KL for a similar price, which are not Ramly patties. And yes McDonalds is 100% beef, just do some basic research and you'll see this. I still wanted to try it regardless of my food allergies, I'm still allowed to live a normal life if I want to and try foods. You think people from my home country are not tolerant toward people doing what they want, however they want it? I spent my entire life there, so you going there "tons of times" doesn't really make you an expert on American perspective. You can live your own life however you choose.

    I find it interesting so many foreigners coming from great burgers countries would praise the Ramly Burgers but You tell it like it's like. May be they are being nice or youtube food critics trying to avoid backlash from local viewers. The patty and cheese are terrible, dry and murdered with sweet sauce. I took a bite and never looked back. It's local delicacy but worst burger if you looking for a mean meaty fresh juicy burger.

    Only Marina & Darabif patties got more meat content. Ramly & others i think around 50-55% meat only.

      The title of the video does not correspond to what Ben want to complaint. Malaysian do know Ramly is NOT 100% beef patty, why Ben wants to slap on our face and made the wrong title for the video, very disrespectful.
