This was a phenomenal video!! I changed my online teaching setup from a Pc gaming tower to the MacBook Pro after I saw how portable your set up was. It is so exciting for me now to be able to teach from multiple places and to have such a quit and efficient system. Thank you!
Great video man, it's amazing with how powerful these m1 chips are! Recently picked up a Mac Studio M1 Ultra with 128 GB Ram, and it's insane at how much you can throw at them!
Another great one, Marc. This has pretty much always been my approach as well, but mainly out of being perpetually broke, haha, so I've always had to be *very* mindful and selective of where I spent my resources. This resulted in a very streamlined setup in all areas - hardware, software, how I setup my template, etc. Works pretty well.
you're a legend I've just binged watched all the videos I could find from you faster than GOT haha. And yeah! Plus one on the optimization of the MBP!! Thanks!!!
Thank u for share, you are awsomeeeee❤ im so happy to join cc program, thats super great course that i have ever seen❤ also i bought uc33e today, but unfortunately the faders are very tight
after watched this video, i really feel my 10 cores BIG desktop with 48Gb of Ram and 6,5Tb SSD feels so outdated... thank you and Marc you really ROCKS!
Marc! I don't know if you'll remember me (we spoke face to face online) but I love your video! It was a bit like me :D And I can tell you, it's so interesting and soooo funny to see someone else vocalise my internal voice! Great energy in your videos as ALWAYS! And love your explanations. Hell yes, do a Part 2 with the template - I'm intrigued what your template consists of :) See you soon! ;)
Thanks for this, Marc! Would love to see your template in the next video! BTW I've seen you using a Behringer BCF2000 in the past, do you still recommend it? I found one for a reasonable price and it seems like many people use it. I'm tempted 🤔
Very awesome and fun video Marc. The content is very very interesting in a lot of areas. Also I use a MacbookPro and I have an orange cat XDDD. It's cool to see Alicia in video, because both looks great team. Thanks a lot for your work and time. A big hugs from Taiwan.
One of the main advantages I found by having the MBP 16” Max, is that now I can grab my “whole studio” with me everywhere. I moved to full ITB for both synths and mixing, so I eliminated all outboard gear, hardware keyboards, etc… (since there’s so much more on software anyway). So now, I can just grab my backpack with my laptop, headphones and a tiny keyboard controller and I have my whole studio anywhere I go. I also have 8TB so I could keep all main libraries installed internally and don’t have to rely much on external drive. Now I wouldn’t want to go back to use a big tower Mac/PC… at best I would use a Mac Studio/Mini, because it’s small enough to fit into a backpack too… I’m not gonna lie, I was lurking at a Mac Studio Ultra 128GB 8TB as a VEP slave for my MBP 16” Max 64GB 8TB…. Who said it was overkill? :)
also, what model moog have you got? And would you recommend getting a hardware synth? I am about to start scoring a sci fi horror film (think Ex machina combined with saw) and I was thinking it would work well for that kind of sound. Or do you think software synths are better now days?
Hi Marc, I also transffed from PC to 14'' M1 Max MBP, but I always have issue with cpu over heat when I run heavy jobs on Cubase, my cubase version is 12.0.50 now, but still on rosetta 2, so just want to know if you have this kind of thermal issue. Because when it's over-heating, the fan noise would really annoies me from composing.
Marc, great video! I'm also amazed how much my MBP M1Max can handle. The one thing, which is just me being OCD about wiring, is the hanging hubs behind your desk gives me hives. LOL If it was me, I would buy some Velcro and velcro them to under the desk. This way they are stable and secure and do not put any undo stress on the cables they are hanging on. Buy a roll or strips. I used it everywhere even power strips. I would also sometimes use it on top of desks as well, to keep things I don't want to move from moving.
Hi Marc, Cool video. I have so many issues when I screen record. What external device are you using to capture your main screen (audio and video). Thanks!
14 inch. A bit limited for Cubase. Just fine for Premiere I love the form factor, though. Someone suggested in the comments that the airflow (cooling) in the bigger body is better...
Hi Marc, did you consider to run VEP locally, so the libraries wouldn’t load for each Cubase session, and yet, it would stay local…. I’m building my first template, started on Logic and then switched to Cubase because I discovered that Logic has a 1,000 tracks limitation and I’m building a super uber template. However, so far, I’m just activating tracks as I go since the load time is almost nothing on the 8TB SSD. I wonder if I would gain anything by having VEP locally, I would like to keep things simple :)
Hi Marc, how do you run a 700 track template without VEP and only with a MacBook Pro M1? I have a Mac Studio with the same specs and my computer can’t handle more than 115 tracks. Thanks!
I have to do a video about this! haha Everyone mentions the coffee... and I don't even drink coffee!! LOL I do get my good 8 hours of sleep though 😅 Or... maybe I should do an experiment... I should drink coffee one day and THEN record a video... 😱🔥🔥🔥 haha
I followed your video on creating a Disable Track template, but Im a PC Guy, and my system can barely run 3 tracks of CSS...What is the spec you suggest for a PC based rig, to run Cubase and the template without CPU bottlenecks?
Great video. Quick question....I see you have the Moog Sub37....what is the other synth on the side? I've been looking at adding some hardware synths to my home studio. Any recommendations for hardware synths? Thx in advance.
None... haha Tbh.. I don't use it much. I like it for sub bass sounds and pulses... but it's usually faster and more convenient in the box... Sorry I can't help with this ;)
@@CinematicComposing No problem. Thanks for the reply. Just purchased the full Omnisphere suite so not sure if HW is even necessary. Love Omnisphere though.
Ohhhh! Love this question! haha For this vid we used the Sony F7a3 in LOG and we use Matti Haapoja conversion LUTs We usually use Canon. The static cameras are Canon. The handheld camera is the Sony (first time using this one). We had to do quite a bit of color correction to "kinda" match Canon&Sony...
Hola Marc! What is the red fader controller you showed at 12:47 for when you are travelling? It looks good! Long faders but not too big in size! I need one
Thanks for the studio tour Marc. Noticed you have an Output desk(?) Did you shorten the top of the legs so that you didn't need to have the rack space on top? Cheers!
Now what if I told you I'm making commissions for small films with just an i3 4th gen laptop and 8GB RAM? And with my limited 128GB storage, I have to store my libraries in an external drive
A pair of old Quested that I bought from a Remote Control composer who was moving from RC to his home studio. They're passive. 20yo or so... forgot the exact model... but they don't make them anymore
Maybe a 16" would be the solution, since it has bigger fans and and better cooling, so you won't hear them, even when the fans spin. I got a 16" M1 Max and I've never heard so far.
I bought a MBP 16” M1 Max 64GB 8TB for my main computer to start composing too. I’ve done music for 35+ years, but I’m a newbie composer. I’m just doing it for fun… and I’m also amazed by the power of the M1 Macs. I’m building my first template now, and so far it’s going really good.
Hi Marc, I'm a 16-year-old violin pro (for my age) and a big fan of you and your videos. I want to get into film composing and orchestrating in a DAW (Cubase). I have experience in composing already, just never orchestrating digitally. I need advice on sound libraries. I would like to have all the instruments and ensemble sounds in high quality (I am a 12-year musician, so it matters). It doesn't have to be all in one library of course, and all of this without breaking the bank (I'm just getting started). What would you recommend I look into? I thank you for your help in advance - never stop inspiring people like me!

M1 Max macbook pro with 64GB of RAM and 8TB SSD costs how much exactly? On the other hand, good luck wanting to upgrade _anything_ in the Mac if you run out of resources like RAM or internal storage.... I am a Mac (Apple) user since 1985, believe me I couldn't conceive anything else, BUT, the direction Apple has taken lately is anti-consumer, anti-expansion, anti-preservation of value. I'm sad.

Hi Marc, Cool video. I have so many issues when I screen record. What external device are you using to capture your main screen (audio and video). Thanks!
You could do a macro on your streamdeck to switch the monitors configuration and define the main one with one button.
Good point! Love the idea!
Awesome video! May I ask what size screen on the MBP? Is it large enough where you can comfortably compose while traveling or away from your studio?
14 inch.
