I appreciate your lighting and color grading in your videos so much. I’m so over the multi-colored dance club lighting aesthetic of a lot of RUclips videos these days. Your lighting is exactly what it’s supposed to be, highlighting the important bits. Well done!

Love it. Your candor, insights, thought processes and humor are all valuable and entertaining. Your interest in the filmmaking/visual aspect of YT also definitely shows! For whatever it is worth, your channel has become one of the few that each video is a "must watch" for me. It's kind of fun that I still have some past videos of yours left to catch up on!

Great seeing your space in more detail Jon. You are right about how much gear you need. Some folks are happy with a laptop, cans and midi keys, others needs more instruments and outboard. It's a personal thing. The studio is part of the composer these days with so many of us working in our own spaces.

pro tip: get a soft bristle paint brush (same size you would use for painting a fence by hand) it will help with dust on; pedals, surfaces, cables, synths, midi keyboards, comp keyboards etc... it is really a game changer. edit: also love the feel of your work station nice lighting, your video looks great, composition, lighting all inviting and done well.

Hi Jon, great video as always. I replaced my nanokontrol a few months ago with a great little unit from a UK company called Anne's Tweed. Its their Custom Midi Controller - 3 faders (which are thankfully much longer than the korg) and its well-built. Also has rubber feet that actually work - so it doesn't move around when using it. Was about £50 I think.

Love the realism, but this space would drive me crazy. Anything I don't use ALL the time has to go and things have to be clean/decluttered. I'd cash out any unused or barely used gear, then roll that into something special.
Outside of that I dig the "cozy" aesthetic...

I was on Google last night, trying to find an adapter that would allow me to put my standard SM57 microphone clip onto a camera stand/tripod. Such a simple adapter, but do you think you can find one anywhere? They don’t seem to exist. I’ll see if one of my friends can turn one one a lathe.

    Faderport recomendations:
I have been using an icon Platform M+ for a few years now and I'm really happy with it. Nine faders and a neutral optic that fits in every type of studio.
FVDE by Audio Imperia, I don't own one, but know a few people that do, and they are all very happy with it. It has four faders and is cased in a wooden shell wich probably would look pretty nice on your desk.
The Presonus Faderport 8 is also a solid piece of hardware from what I have heard, but it might be a bit too chunky for your more clean and minimalistic setup.

Hey Jon... I see that you're thinking about another monitor controller... look at one of these three. 1) Dangerous Music monitor controller, 2) Crane Song monitor controller, and 3) Crookwood monitor controller. Of the three, I believe that the DM is the least expensive, but still somewhere in the $1500 to $2000 range, with the Crane Song more than likely coming in at second highest cost, and more than likely the Crookwood will be the highest, but also probably the most hi-fi. It's used in mastering houses all over... made in Britain by a really great guy who once worked for Focusrite as a console designer. Loved the video... thanks so much!

Question: The UAD FW via TB STILL works? I thought Apple discontinued support for FW in Monterey, but I guess it still works? Or, are you using some mojo to get everything to tick? I have a Mac Studio and some old great FW gear that's still great... except it's FW.

There's not much with the same format as the Korg nanoKontrol. Somethings you could switch to with multiple faders in a similar format are the Studilogic SL Mixface or Softube Console 1. Other than those, you would have to go with a larger footprint controller like the SSL UF8, Avid S1, Icon QCon, etc.
