** Can I donate a whisk(e)y for you to review in The Whisk(e)y Vault?
Of course! If you’re interested in making a tax-deductible donation towards our whiskey selection, head on over to:
    11:27 - boof
    austinwhiskyvault.com/whisky-d...
    ** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
    **A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

Talisker Storm is my go to “you have to try this” whisky. The layers of flavors and complexity is noteworthy. It’s like if you loaded oak barrels full of dried fruit onto a Spanish galleon and set it to sail in a choppy sea, lit it on fire, then bottled the result.

bclem15 I absolutely agree. Gal pals who show dismay at what they perceive as pungent and smokey are much more receptive to any Tallisker...the 10 is a great apprentice level .... there is no bad Tallisker n my eyes 😇🤓🥃😍

Cannot turn down this bottle after your rather eloquent description. Think I'll pick one up even at Ontario prices ($88). Will say that when reading reviews people either love it or hate it more than any other.

Matthew Morin I have both of these. I can't decide which one I like better. I started with Storm and then 10yr. From my experience, I think I like the 10 better as it keeps changing as you drink it. But if you only had the storm, that's just fine; you ain't missing much.
I'd love a complete tasting kit from Talisker.

The first time I tried Talisker was 10 years ago at the distillery. I’m from the East coast of Scotland and as much as I love Speyside whiskies they do have a characteristic flavour that makes it difficult for a novice to distinguish one from the other. Talisker is a whisky that delivers so much of its home in a bottle no matter where you drink it. Every sip brings you back to the Isle of Skye.

I like that we're of a mind about Talisker vs. Talisker Storm. I got the Talisker Storm months ago because it's less expensive at my local store, then got Talisker last week. I agree that the Storm has more character, while still enjoying the Talisker 10.
As a geeky, related side-note, it's weird that Widen chose Clan MacLeod for The Highlander, since he was so specific about where Connor was born (in Glenfinnan, near the shore of Loch Shiel), when the actual MacLeods lived on Skye and the Isle of Lewis...

Not to support rex too much but I'm always a fan of when you delve so far into the whiskys taste that you find an ample comparison in another whisky. Love the videos they make my day when there uploaded ! Only thing I have to say is your not drinking whisky right ! The general rule of whisky (mostly scotches) is that however old the youngest barrel is you keep the sip in your mouth and swill it round. Say it’s a Jura 18 year old, keep it in your mouth for 18 seconds and swill it round then after the 18 seconds (more if you want to) swallow and you’ll get a completely different flavour without any burn or sharpness. You’ll really get to enjoy the flavours properly. I’ve worked in the whisky business for 10+ years so sorry I’m not trying to be pretentious. Love the vids once again .

Was this a review of Storm or just what they thought of the brand? It seemed extra pointless in compared to their other off topic filled reviews Rex was right, there at least needed to be some kind of comparison if you are going to lack relevant content.

I thought I was going to hate this dram because of the smoke and brine. After tasting it, I actually like it for the money.

The intro to episode 199 just popped up in my feed, so I watched it, and the extremely prescient intro goes into a speal about how one day Daniel will have hair to cover his baldness, even talking about it being used hair stuck into a makeshift wig...

    Hey Rex and Daniel,
First, Love your Channel blablabla much appreciation blablabla helped me on my Journey bla.
Also, sorry but Daniel is pulling off Hair for hobbit way better than Rex is pulling off bald… The man looks like a Club bouncer!
I had a serious question though, I was wondering if anyone ever tried to Rye barrel finish a sherry bomb, as the spice could balance the super sweet fruitiness and the creamy notes would integrate with the sherry.
    Cheers from France!

So seeing that your in Austin, are you familiar with Family Business beer comp? Owned by Jensen Ackles from the show Supernatural? Am I the only one who wants that collaboration to happen? Rex if Daniel really felt bad about your hair cuts he would shave his beard for u!!!

I'm going to send you some awesome Canadian maple whisky. I'm not talking hints of maple I'm talking about what is essentially alcoholic maple syrup.

This is the only whisky that burned my palate. I don't know wheter it was an allergic reaction of what else, but it never happened to me before.
I don't think I want to drink Talisker Storm ever again, although I might, just to check if such a reaction happens again.
