- DIY Stamp Making, Block printing, Lino Cutting.. I'm going show you how to make stamps from this rubber carving block. I tried different ink to see what's best. This is kinda just my take on print making ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So you can make a stamp from a potato.. just cut it in half and use one of those sides.
When making a stamp the first thing to do is reverse your image.. if I wanted to do the °ᴗ* face thing.. when I stamp it it would be backwards.. reading x o.. so make sure you have your design reversed on the face of the stamp.
I then cut off all the white parts on the potato so that the black where I drew the design is raised up. That way when I press it on the paper.. the raised part is the only part that touches the paper:)
Stamps are good for repeating the same image over and over and over and overrrrrr... then when you run out of ink, you can just reload up your stamp and keep going.
Next I'm going to make some stamps using a rubber block and a Lino cutter:)
But first thing I need to do is figure out what I'm going to make a stamp of... and I had no idea. So I went to google (my search history is... not to weird this time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
So when I'm in a creative funk or don't know what to draw.. I usually just find images of things I like; hands, plants, skulls, sailor jerry tattoos.... and just recreate them. This works good as a warm up and also gets my mind going...
and.. WAK! (head hits table)... still can't think of what to draw..
Maybe if I just start drawing something will happen.... and... finally I got thought of image for the stamp:)
So now take your rubber block or what ever you are going to carve out a stamp.. and trace it on a paper so you know how big you can draw out the design.
Start drawing out the design on the paper. This doesn't have to be reversed, because you are going to press this on the rubber stamp to transfer the image.. (and that will automatically reverse the image onto the stamp:)
Make sure you draw pretty dark lines on the paper then what worked for me was to put rubber block on the paper and flip the paper and block over so the paper was on top.. and then rub it down with my fingers..
once it's transferred onto the stamp you can draw it out darker and get the lil details. Annnnnd you are ready to start carving out the stamp.
I am going to use black ink and I want the pencil lines on the stamp to be white. Where when I stamp it... the paper will show... so that is what I'm carving out.
I have lil lino cutter that has a bunch of different size cutting things.. so I pick the smallest one to start. You just unscrew the top of the Lino cutter and shover that bad boy in then tighten it back up.
Important thing you should know is... don't cut towards yourself or your hands.
once its done, you can use glass from a picture frame to put your ink on. A little goes a long way. Then take the lil roller thing and make sure its fully covered. then roll that guy on the stamp and you are good to go:)
List of materials:
$9 Rubber carving block: amzn.to/2FnITDX
$9.50 Lino cutte (red carving thing)r: amzn.to/2JpZecj
$9 block printing ink: amzn.to/2Y0rtEv
$10 ink brayer: amzn.to/2L5dOby
Extras:
$8 Print making paper 40: amzn.to/2XmEhIp
$9 Fabric ink: amzn.to/2x4ob7o
$12 Potato that you can send some one with a custom message: bit.ly/2x8KBEt
It's like $40 to start, but the Lino cutter is a one time buy and the ink will last for a bunch of prints. So... pretty fun and cheaper craft.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No worries 👍 I'll see if we have any more questions
O shit this is giving me nostalgia to the middle school art classes
Love me some middle school craftin:):)
I went to a ghetto school. We barely had books or teachers.
Your intros are seriously my favorite intro on RUclips, amazing video as always💗
Haha thanks! I need to update this one.. don’t look quite the same
-I’m just gunna draw these MASTER PIECES for a warm up real quick”
I love how you show the entire process in your videos, not just the final "pretty" project - makes everything more authentic and inspiring that we can all create like you!! :)
your drawing skill is amazing, your voice is soothing, and you're kinda cute smh
i guess you deserve more attention :))
☺️☺️☺️
Kinda? You mean "HELLA". :P
KINDA cute? GET OUT.
Yes, he's definitely hella cute 😍
Thank you for ripping the paper! The raw edge of the paper is a huge thing for printmakers, you explained it so well and it was so nicely educational
Thanks! I love the raw edge look:):)
@@Shmoxd No problem! Youre a huge inspiration!
It’s your voice..... it’s so soothing. Very ASMR and your tragically adorbs. I stand you. ❤️
☺️☺️🙏🏻
you're the only youtuber I have notifications on for
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 I appreciate that:)
The best solution for homemade blockprinting are oil paints. They are thicker and richer in color. You can also add some baby powder to make them stick even better.
I don't know how you can clean the brer maybe paint thinner?
Thank you for this🙏🏿✍🏾
Your channel is so underrated seriously the best diy channel I’ve ever found
☺️☺️☺️🙏🏻
hes our little secret
No worries 👍 I'll see if we have any more questions. 👌 OK

Totally am going to do this!! You should start customizing shoes more often
I’ve been wanting to customize shoes!:)
So glad you tore the paper instead of cutting it! In my printmaking class we spent around an hour learning how to properly tear paper because cutting it with scissors was so not allowed. One of my favorite parts of the printmaking process is the “sticky” sound the brayer makes when rolling the ink.
When the intro starts to repeat I'm already readying my soul for the drop and to jam my heart out
Haha 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
When my mom was taking art classes (in college I think) she carved an Easter stamp into her eraser with an X-Acto knife. I still have the stamp and this video reminded me of a project idea I had a while ago to make more stamps from the random erasers around my house. So thanks!
me: *enjoying this video*
my brain: *has war flashbacks of the How To Make Paper video*
"Line-oh" tool. You are technically doing lino printing. I recommend drawing your design with a pencil on a sheet of baking paper, it transfers much easier and you can also put it on top of any art work you've already made and trace it. Also acrylic paint is not ideal, ever it dries too fast and its impossible to get all the paint off without scratching the surface of the lino. (trust me) The lino inks can atlest be removed with white spirit w/o damaging the lino surface. Also make sure to sharpen/switch out your lino tool bits bc they get dull pretty fast!
Also also you can use the same tool on woodcuts! (if the tools are sharp its actually easier!)
(I share a studio with printmaking MA students and use the print workshop at uni whenever I can!)
Hannah Steinum Kvalvik exactly my thoughts!! I don’t know too much about printing (I’m an art student but I just took a semester on this because I have to; not what I specialize in) but yeah the ink is very important and also sharpening tools every once in a while makes a total difference. If I may I’d like to recommend holding the tool with one hand, and put a few fingers from the other hand on the metal part to steady the tool since you can accidentally carve something you didn’t want carved out! It’s a lot of practice but a really nice printing technique. ALSO! When carving over mdf, to transfer your drawing you can make a photocopy of it and transfer it onto the mdf board with some alcohol or turpentine on a cotton swab!
When I’m in school I write/draw on a rubber and use that as a stamp
I N O V A T I O N
No One I did this too! (And to my fellow non Europeans: they call erasers rubbers, it's not what you think lol)
I need to find me some rubbers..
Shmoxd e r a s e r s
e girl 👍 Yeah pretty sure he knows 😂
Now you made me buy carving stuff man! Like that you included the process of picture creation and the fact that it is not always easy to come up with something. Thanks!
This is actually a genius way for people who don't have a lot of resources to work with (space or money) to start experimenting with prints! Personally I love the look of prints and this would be something I could put the time behind to try! Thank you so much
I can't understand
HOW CAN YOU DRAW SO WELL?
AAaaAAAaAAa
And his ideas are so unique ):
We had to do Lino cutting and etching as an intaglio and relief project for my end of schooling GCSE exams.... hated it with a burning passion- apart from etching, that however was really soothing
I just noticed you put in a lot of detail of what you said in the video and I really appreciated that
For sure! I need to figure out how to do cc.. but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Love this! It doesn't matter what you're making, I always enjoy watching your videos! Showing the process and your delivery of the steps being so nonchalant and chill are my favorite things. Thanks for taking the time to make these!
i love this! i did this once in middle school,, hated carving it out but loved the outcome, i’ve been wanting to spice up my shoes so maybe i’ll try prints!
So creative & talented! I love watching your videos because it makes me want to get off my ass and make more art! It reminds me that art can still be fun, when you do it for a living sometimes it can feel like a total grind when you're having a creative dry spell. You bring the cool & fun feeling back, it's really enjoyable to watch.
I loved that you showed yourself having an art/ drawing block and your thought process for getting through it. :)
The second one with the linocuts I remember doing that in art class
I used to do this in my printmaking class ! I absolutely enjoyed it and I miss doing this! Gonna start doing it again
Watching your videos for a while now and your content never fails to impress me.
☺️☺️🙏🏻🙌🏻

I love your videos! Especially how they aren't simple diys but also show the process of finding new ways to use your resources- eg. you didn't stop at making the print but also tried fabric paint . Ah and your personality is the cherry on the cake ,could listen to your voiceovers for hours hehehe
My mum was a preschool teacher and she used to to that potato stamp thing for me ALL THE TIME as a kid and I loved it
oh man, linoprinting is such a nostalgic thing to me, i love it

I’m so excited for the upcoming video! I’m taking a printmaking course next semester for my degree in studio art and this is the one media I haven’t tried yet of the classical mediums.
It’s super fun! I actually failed out of my print making class :S 🤫 don’t tell anyone
So excited for part 2 🔥
Yessssssss waiting and seeing previews for this video has been worth it!!!
So glad!!:):)
i love printmaking so much, i can’t wait to major in it
I work with engraving since 2013 and I really like this cheap and effective way to do it! Not too much pressure required, like the wood and metal ones
And stone ones
I'm so in love with your videos. I'm not creative in anyway but I just live watching you being so creative.
This is so chill, I love this channel
freaking love this dude !!!!
i used to make these potato stamps all the time when i was a kid
Ahhh that’s rad! I didn’t get to make the potato stamp till just now
When I was in 4th grade i used to cut little foam hearths, stars and other shapes and then stick them to a bottle tap. The nostalgia of those bottle taps...
Love those prints!!!
Watching this was both relaxing and inspiring.
The t-shirt looked so cool! 🙌🏽
Always the most amazing projects!! Thanks for everything!

☺️I’m glad you appreciate that.. cuase it takes me a while to edit things
Yeesss these are great! Just for anyone who buys the very large slabs, they can actually rip in half when you’re using it often, so be delicate with it

This is such a good idea bro love the content
🙏🏻🙏🏻☺️
Bro
Nice seeing you back at it again. Thanks for this! have a nice day bro
They came out amazing, really like how the stamped t-shirt looks 😍😍
You could try using oils for stamping, they stay liquid longer than the acrylics and give you time to play although they need more time to dry. You could also use one of those roller things you used to apply the ink to apply the pressure while stamping.
Fantastic tutorial. Great info in the description. Thanks!
you inspire me so much. thank you 😊❤
I never get tired of that intro
Very excited for the next part! Always love your videos :)
I just need to edit the video now.. :)
Day is saved when you upload and tickle my creative gears

🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Amazing diys as always !! Always got so inspired by your techniques and try them everytime 👍
I love that you try em out!:):)
Love these!
Dude i like everything you create! 😻
WOOW ! YOU RE GREAT PAINTER, DRAWER, ARTIST !
I actually just finished a print making unit in school. This is super cool and I can't wait to explore the medium more :))
It’s super fun right!?
I do a ton of stamping, I think I need to make my own stamp! I always get a better print when I put the stamp face up on the table, ink it and then bring my paper to the stamp and rub the paper with my fingers to transfer the ink. I also thought about adding ez foam to the back to make it a cling stamp so you can use it with a stamp platform, that means you can stamp in the exact same place as many times as u want till it’s perfect 👌
This print/stamp, primary colors placed at random would be beautiful!
I love everything about your channel!!
Omg that’s so smart, love it! Getting into painting fabric with acrylic and this is something imma totally try out!( very easy and smart way to recreate a pattern!!) XD
I seriously love your content so much! Keep it up!!!
I’ll sure try!:)
Wow. I was considering making a stamp for branding some mailers and then you posted this. 😂🙌🙌
I love your video ideas and your creativity!
So sick!! Awesome af! Love it🔥🔥❤️
We had to do this for my Foundations of Art class and really enjoyed it! I loved how your designs turned out and I really enjoyed your video as well
