I love how you show the entire process in your videos, not just the final "pretty" project - makes everything more authentic and inspiring that we can all create like you!! :)
So glad you tore the paper instead of cutting it! In my printmaking class we spent around an hour learning how to properly tear paper because cutting it with scissors was so not allowed. One of my favorite parts of the printmaking process is the “sticky” sound the brayer makes when rolling the ink.
When my mom was taking art classes (in college I think) she carved an Easter stamp into her eraser with an X-Acto knife. I still have the stamp and this video reminded me of a project idea I had a while ago to make more stamps from the random erasers around my house. So thanks!
The best solution for homemade blockprinting are oil paints. They are thicker and richer in color. You can also add some baby powder to make them stick even better.
Now you made me buy carving stuff man! Like that you included the process of picture creation and the fact that it is not always easy to come up with something. Thanks!
This is actually a genius way for people who don't have a lot of resources to work with (space or money) to start experimenting with prints! Personally I love the look of prints and this would be something I could put the time behind to try! Thank you so much
"Line-oh" tool. You are technically doing lino printing. I recommend drawing your design with a pencil on a sheet of baking paper, it transfers much easier and you can also put it on top of any art work you've already made and trace it. Also acrylic paint is not ideal, ever it dries too fast and its impossible to get all the paint off without scratching the surface of the lino. (trust me) The lino inks can atlest be removed with white spirit w/o damaging the lino surface. Also make sure to sharpen/switch out your lino tool bits bc they get dull pretty fast! Also also you can use the same tool on woodcuts! (if the tools are sharp its actually easier!) (I share a studio with printmaking MA students and use the print workshop at uni whenever I can!)
Hannah Steinum Kvalvik exactly my thoughts!! I don’t know too much about printing (I’m an art student but I just took a semester on this because I have to; not what I specialize in) but yeah the ink is very important and also sharpening tools every once in a while makes a total difference. If I may I’d like to recommend holding the tool with one hand, and put a few fingers from the other hand on the metal part to steady the tool since you can accidentally carve something you didn’t want carved out! It’s a lot of practice but a really nice printing technique. ALSO! When carving over mdf, to transfer your drawing you can make a photocopy of it and transfer it onto the mdf board with some alcohol or turpentine on a cotton swab!
We had to do Lino cutting and etching as an intaglio and relief project for my end of schooling GCSE exams.... hated it with a burning passion- apart from etching, that however was really soothing
Yeesss these are great! Just for anyone who buys the very large slabs, they can actually rip in half when you’re using it often, so be delicate with it
When I was in 4th grade i used to cut little foam hearths, stars and other shapes and then stick them to a bottle tap. The nostalgia of those bottle taps...
I do a ton of stamping, I think I need to make my own stamp! I always get a better print when I put the stamp face up on the table, ink it and then bring my paper to the stamp and rub the paper with my fingers to transfer the ink. I also thought about adding ez foam to the back to make it a cling stamp so you can use it with a stamp platform, that means you can stamp in the exact same place as many times as u want till it’s perfect 👌
I’m so excited for the upcoming video! I’m taking a printmaking course next semester for my degree in studio art and this is the one media I haven’t tried yet of the classical mediums.
i love this! i did this once in middle school,, hated carving it out but loved the outcome, i’ve been wanting to spice up my shoes so maybe i’ll try prints!
Great video! So much information and encouragement in less than ten minutes. Also, if your acrylic paint keeps drying on the thing, you can try mixing in a bit of acrylic retarder. I don't know what they make that stuff out of, so I don't know what the "in my cabinets" alternative would be, but I don't think it's super pricey. We used to use it at school, especially me as the slowest painter in class.
I love your videos! Especially how they aren't simple diys but also show the process of finding new ways to use your resources- eg. you didn't stop at making the print but also tried fabric paint . Ah and your personality is the cherry on the cake ,could listen to your voiceovers for hours hehehe
this is rly old but !! i did this in my art class last year and to press it down into the paper or whatever we used rolling pins ! and that might transfer the design a bit better than just using your hands
Love this! It doesn't matter what you're making, I always enjoy watching your videos! Showing the process and your delivery of the steps being so nonchalant and chill are my favorite things. Thanks for taking the time to make these!
Love these videos. Crafts I've always wanted to do that I didnt know I wanted to do. Or.. like.. crafts i didnt know how to do that you make look super achievable.
So creative & talented! I love watching your videos because it makes me want to get off my ass and make more art! It reminds me that art can still be fun, when you do it for a living sometimes it can feel like a total grind when you're having a creative dry spell. You bring the cool & fun feeling back, it's really enjoyable to watch.
Did great dude! Lino is like Lie-No, it's just short for linoleum like the flooring. I'm trying real hard to hold back the art nerd on this one, so much lino info to share. Loved this heaps, I'm looking forward to part 2! :)
*Flashbacks to high school when I’d cut my fingers up in art class* we didn’t use rubber, that’s an awesome idea!! We use stuff like cork board I think.
Always love seeing an upload from you. Your videos are always so creative, relaxing, and edited together beautifully. Definitely my favorite youtube by far.
You can get the linoleum stamp carving pads at any micheals/ hobby lobby! You can get a whole starter kit with the pad, and the carving tool with the different nibs. ALWAYS CARVE AWAY FROM YOURSELF. I stabbed myself in the chest while carving once and broke the skin. Also printing ink in my experiences takes a little long to dry on the surfaces you use to roll it on; it dries faster on paper. It’s super easy and fast to learn! Be careful, you’ll probably cut yourself at least once, and it just feels like a paper cut. You could try wearing gloves if you want while carving for added safety.
I like that you're frugal or, well, mindful of using your materials. A lot of people are so wasteful and that irritates me on so many levels. Your stamp came out very nice. This wasn't at all the video i was looking for (I'm looking for a "ghetto-rigged" diy stamp when you don't have much more than puffy paint to use for example) but ended up watching your entire video anyway.
Something that helps make my image more crisp is putting the block down face up so the ink is facing upwards one putting it on the block, then put the paper on top of the block and use a wooden spoon to press the paper to make a clean and crisp image
Hey man :) ever since I came across your videos, you've inspired me to go back to embroidery, drawing and so much more- saying that I love your videos is an understatement and I hope you're doing well and keep doing you!
Your intros are seriously my favorite intro on RUclips, amazing video as always💗
Haha thanks! I need to update this one.. don’t look quite the same
O shit this is giving me nostalgia to the middle school art classes
Love me some middle school craftin:):)
I went to a ghetto school. We barely had books or teachers.
*goes to dollar store and buys all of the BIG MISTAKES erasers*
This is genius!
Been there, done that ^^
Yep! 😂😭

No worries 👍 I'll see if we have any more questions
I love how you show the entire process in your videos, not just the final "pretty" project - makes everything more authentic and inspiring that we can all create like you!! :)
Thank you for ripping the paper! The raw edge of the paper is a huge thing for printmakers, you explained it so well and it was so nicely educational
Thanks! I love the raw edge look:):)

Totally am going to do this!! You should start customizing shoes more often
I’ve been wanting to customize shoes!:)
you're the only youtuber I have notifications on for
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 I appreciate that:)
When the intro starts to repeat I'm already readying my soul for the drop and to jam my heart out

Thanks! I wanna make some more shirts now:)

I just noticed you put in a lot of detail of what you said in the video and I really appreciated that
For sure! I need to figure out how to do cc.. but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I work with engraving since 2013 and I really like this cheap and effective way to do it! Not too much pressure required, like the wood and metal ones
And stone ones

this is rly old but !! i did this in my art class last year and to press it down into the paper or whatever we used rolling pins ! and that might transfer the design a bit better than just using your hands
Yah! I tried that but I couldn’t get it from shifting when I rolled it:/ any tips?
carbon paper is a good hack to get images onto the stamp!
Aaaa that would have been nice to have...
Amazing diys as always !! Always got so inspired by your techniques and try them everytime 👍
I love that you try em out!:):)
