While on Cybertron, Optimus Prime merges with Vector Sigma and discovers the deadly secret of Plasma Energy. R.I.P. Jack Angel, who passed away last week, who voiced Astrotrain, Omega Supreme, Smokescreen, Ramjet, Ultra Magnus (for season 3 and 4, after 1986 movie, Robert Stack voiced him in the movie) and Cyclonus( for the rebirth episodes, replacing Roger C. Carmel after he passed away in 1986).
He voiced arcana as well
I never noticed Cyclonus was voiced by a different guy in season 4..he did a great job.
Rest in Peace. A Hero to many.
Awe man! Jack Angel is dead? Bummer, dude!
Till all are one😔
Hardhead: "I want ya to meet some friends of mine!"
Optimus, literally looking at dozens of Autobots: "I don't see anybody."
Hardhead: "Show him Kup."
Well he knows Hot Rod,Kup, and Blurr. He also might have gotten aquinted with the new Autobots off screen.
You have to love the fact that the Nebulons in the previous episode said the Hive's bodies had become weak and worthless basically, just to see Zarak finally at 8:30 and find he's freaking ripped.
lol
I was always under the impression that maybe Zarak was part of a ruling bloodline that didn’t lose their bodies physical strength.
Low carbs.
Zarak’s face reminds me of Uncle Ruckus from The Boondock’s 🤣
@@thedragonslayer7294😮😮😮Yep
I love how they said the leaders of the Hive have bodies that are weak and useless, yet Zarak is absolutely jacked
😅😅😅
Well probably only outside look great but we'll lack of power
Zarak: *"Autobots, prepare to feel the sting of... SCORPONOK!!!"*
To this day, that line is still epic.
I love Zarak.
@@donmccullen1973 me to, but for me it's the japanese version. He is so awesome.
@@blastatron2007 In the Japanese version he is just another Transformer.
@@donmccullen1973 and that's why I like it. Smaller robots turning into the heads of larger robots, its perfect.
@@blastatron2007 But I prefer the humanoid interface. But I would not mind a story about going to an alternate universe in which the headmasters and targetmasters are robots.
Happy 37th Anniversary "Transformers G1" (September 17, 1984-November 11, 1987)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know the day has passed but I am counting anyway for my love for Transformers.
"their bodies are weak and frail" meanwhile Zarak looks like hes ready for Mr Olympia.
And his buddies look like they're from Lythone (the planet Unicron devoured in the beginning of The Movie)
@@AndE667 yeah i bet they are evil survivours that got onto the ship in the movie
🤣
@@smitenessyt...That's never hinted at anywhere at all.
@@TheSkyatollah yes I know its not hinted and it was 2 years ago i was more immature then lol but it could still be an interesting theroy
Man, I wish we'd gotten a full season 4.
Which is why we’re working on a new Season 5!
Because they canceled it
17:41 "They can fly and you guys can't." As Spike speaks to two Autobots with wings 😂
So what are Highbrow and Brainstorm?! Chopped liver?!
@@jsttv Vastly outnumbers.
All decepticons can fly in robot mode while only 2 autobots can fly you think 2 vs 10 is going to go well?
@@Ushio01 Good point. Instead, should of said, “They can fly, and MOST of you guys can’t.”
Cyclonys, scourge, trigger-happy, misfire and slugslonger wax jets
Apegace and snapdragon could turn into jets
Mindwiled could turn into a bay
Nightstick sounding like a thuggish Optimus Prime always made me happy.😆
Same voice I got him in toy
You can tell it's a different voice for cyclonus because the other one had passed away, Rodger C Carmel. I'll always remember the episode with him on the original star trek
I love how technically the transformers are trapped in a war ecosystem. When one side evolves a new weapon the other side evolves to adapt to maintain the endless universal stalemate between both sides. And the whole time vector sigma just uses both factions as pawns for its own ends related to maintaining cybertron and its evolution/survival.
Vector Sigma was largely used to animate new Cybertronians, it didn't appear to have an agenda of its own like Primus in other continuities. Alpha Trion is a different story, of course.
And Vector Sigma a.k.a. the Oracle did the same thing again, in _Beast Machines._
Considering the Decepticons had a relatively fragile alliance with the Hive you've really got question the merits of a sentient gun than can turn against it's user at any moment.
It's not like The Decepticons are foreign to sentient guns.
20:54 epic reveal of one of the most iconic Transformers of all time
(Optimus Prime)”Nothing you served up could ever humiliate an Autobot Scourge!!”(19:48)
14:01 Mindwipe was always one of my favs (despite the brief screentime), mainly because of the accent and those nifty mental abilities.
If S4 had been longer we could have perhaps got an episode centered on him and Vorath.
One of the most unique creations, who should have had a more prolific legacy.
He could also communicate with dead transformers
@@saturncrush all the season 4 characters could have a bigger legacy if it had been a proper 4th season. instead most are cameos or barely fleshed out characters. I still loved some of the headmasters and target masters though!
@@Lazrael32 True
It was meant to be a five-parter.
Scorponok's dramatic entrance is very cool. Like a giant boss from videogame. Guess he's the new "Devastator" of this episode.
With Optimus back, the Decepticons know that they cannot defeat the Autobots as things currently stand, so they need a major new addition to their troops in the form of Scorponok.
The scene with the hive bonding with the decepticons is still top notch.... even 30 years later
@RogaFang that’s what I’m wondering. They’re back now.
agreed, it's of the best scenes in all of Transformers.
I agree with you there you’re not only get to see the characters personalities, but It kinds makes me wish there was a transformer cartoon that focused just on the target-masters, and the headmasters too. and I don’t mean the marvel miniseries or the Japanese show.
Lol, no it's not, they look like rejects from Lithone, one of them even looks like Kranix.
Optimus Prime: Until I return, I am placing you in command. I know you won't let me down.
*takes off*
Ultra Magnus: Maybe I shouldn't tell him about how I lost the Matrix in the movie >_>
LOL!
Just to be clear. The autobots have been waging a war against the decepticons for millions of years to reclaim cybertron. In one week, Spike, Redesigns the autobots into the headmasters, builds fortress maximus, defeats the decepticons and scorpiok and restores cybertron to its golden age after eons!!! not saying Spike was the greatest but, ya know!
Very true. Spike is a brilliant engineer, and fantastic ally to the Autobots.
Also at the same time he had the idea of Headmasters in mind as a concept.
Brainstorm helped him execute it.
Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Very evident when the Cons had Scorponok.
@@RoboP Very true.
@@RoboP something tells that the whole Autobot spike incident must gave spike some inspiration
Meanwhile, _Sam_ Witwicky...
I always wondered why some of the Hive members looked like the robots from the planet that Unicron devoured at the beginning of Transformers The Movie.
Up cycling character designs for the crowd I guess.
Probably a shared origin, just like the Junkions were a colony of Cybertronians who apparently fled the war and wanted to be left alone.
it's cool how they still found room for Frank Welker's voice.
12:38 - nice to see some Lithones survived
No proof they was lithones
15:38 Dude yelling copy-rights after the Decepticons
copy the Headmaster Tech LOLZ
Creeps using my idea, I'll sue..lol
20:17 The idea for the characers in "Angry Birds Transformers". Yes, the very first series did a lot of inpiration to the future franchaise.
It took me a little to realize that when the Autobots had their 2nd rematch with the Decepticons for the key.
The reason they got the upperhand was the Cons didn't expect them to have Targetmasters.
That's very evident by Hot Rod, Kup, Blur leading the first wave in a high speed ground assault followed by the remaining Autobot Targetmasters and Headmasters.
Unfortunate how Zarak had finished constructing Scorponok.
This whole three parter is basically a game of one upsmanship. the Autobots score a win when they upgrade to headmasters and the decepticons win they they get both headmasters and targetmasters so on
Instantly recognized the voices of Krunk and Fracas. Krunk with a shrill rasp like Starscream (RIP Chris Latta) and Fracas sounding like a robotic Green Goblin.
I think Nightstick is Peter Cullen
@@AndE667 It is indeed! And I instantly recognized Rob Paulsen as Haywire and Firebolt (Hot Rod's Targetmaster partner) was also voiced by Dick Gautier.
@@AndE667 you are correct sir
@@l2jnichol1986 rob Paulsen doesn't remember voicing transformers lol guess he was so busy and looked at it as hustling
Krunk sounds more like Cobra Commander than Starscream.
You know, I kinda like the idea of how the Headmasters are independent of the main body instead of transector shells. At least from a combat aspect. A real shame that Hot Rod, Kup, and Blurr's Targetmasters never made it to Japan, else they'd reappear in the show again. I think that was the original idea. I also like this version of Brainstorm over the Headmaster version.
I also agree with Hasbro's depiction of the Headmasters as the smaller bot functions independently while the exosuit is in autonomous control but I like Takara's depiction of the Headmasters directly controlling the Transtectors provided they have the required training to master the Headmaster process.
You can call me calibre, because I've never missed a shot in my life.
You've never taken a shot in your life?
See, would I lie to you??
Fucking brilliant.
On closer inspection, some of the Hive members share the same design template as Kranix and his fellow Lithoneons.
Zarek's voice sounds like Lex Luthor on the Super Friends.
I just looked it up. It is Superfriends Lex Luthor, Stan Jones. He also played Scourge and Weirdwolf.
..and looks like Ming the Merciless from Defenders of the Earth.

Yes, Arcee and Daniel are the best of friends! I know this because of the large amount of time they spent together in Season 3!
(Where IS Wheelie anyway?)

I would've loved to have seen Superion fight Abominus. Shame the show didn't do that instead of the Arielbots just firing there guns at him
4:24 David Wise's love of Doctor Who is showing.
Still an awesome series
15:58 The name "Aimless" should answer your question.
"E-nihilate them!!" Oh, so phisticated, Cyclonus.
YO! This animation looks CRISP! THANKS HASBRO!
8:55 i love this scene. The music and Zaraks voice are so mesmerizing. Also in in the Japanese dubbing, the decepticons are screaming in pain when when they were getting tortured.
Season 4 focused on the 87 toyline
That's why perceptor- gromlock- springer or wheelie wasn't shown the minibars was replaced by the throttlebots
The aerialbots and protectobots was in the 87 toyline which was why they was in rebirth as was the combaticons
The stunticons and predacons was in the 87 toyline maybe if rebirth was shown in its full.content they would have been.shown along with the monsterbots and duocons
Mindwipe hypnotized vorath lol
Go, Autobots!
I remember seeing where the late David Wise who wrote this 3 part episode and many other Transformers episodes. Said it was originally supposed to be in 5 parts. But then Sunbow decided to make it 3. Since Transformers was being cancelled. He said he could have written a better story if it had remained a 5 part episode.
I wish they would have did more with this story of the rebirth. I really liked these episodes
True especial with the return of prime 👌
It was originally meant to be a five-part series but was changed due to mostly time restraints and decreasing interest with the brand in North America (it was the late 80s). Only the Marvel comic was still kept afloat.
It was a different story across the water.
Anyone find it funny that the guy who voices FireBolt sounds just like the guy who voiced Rodimus Prime during the shows third season.
This had so much potential. If only it had 2 more parts to further explore the new characters and concepts.
Before the Mini Cons were introduced in Armada. There were Headmasters, Targetmasters, & Powermasters.
6:48 It was nice to see Prime and Magnus interact after the movie.
What I never understood was, how big could these organics be to become the heads of these giant robots? Especially Scorponok
There is nothing weak about these bad guys.these dudes are buffed
Scorponoc popularity in this episode
This complete series is the over all mix and modern extend of the series where the humans (or atleast the organic humanoids) merge with the transformers, work together.
21:00 I saw Scorpornok as a toy and as a "non-headmaster" int the Netflix original series, "Transformers Trilogy".
The Headmasters (Titan Masters) and Targetmasters (Battle Masters) are tiny exosuits piloted by Nebulans and Daniel first seen in action in this episode. This is the last time we see Galvatron's ship the Revenge destroyed, seriously! And finally, the first glimpse of Lord Zarak and his latest creation, the mighty Scorponok in the cliffhanger ending.
The intro looks different from what I remember on the VHS.
Personally, I think the Rebirth is a good 3-parter, regardless of how one feels about the Headmaster/Targetmaster storyline and concept. It’s just a shame that it left the original G1 show 2 episodes shy of 100. The Rebirth was originally intended to be a 5-part story, which would have given the show 100 episodes on the nose, but plans were changed and it was reduced to 3 parts.
Maybe we will get a new season since old tv shows are coming back or being rebooted-I hope
Prime rocks the 80s mohawk.
20:39 You are Wrong. 20:52 Autobots, Prepare to feel the sting of...SCORPONOK!!!
I Love Autobots When They Started Fighting For Their Lives
I’m Pin Pointer and I’m ready to bust some ghosts!
I think I seen this as a kid. I could only rent a few transformer videos from a shop for a few days. Think this was one of them. The movie and the 3 more than meets the eye episodes were the vids available. Maybe 1 more.
Targetmasters made zero sense. I’ll throw my gun at you!
Happy 38th Anniversary "TRANSFORMERS GENERATION 1" (SEPTEMBER 17, 1984-NOVEMBER 11, 1987)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
An alternate time-line involving old school characters interacting with new ones would have been cool. Maybe I should write it.
Dude, these Headmaster's are for reals, totally...crazy. I'm super into it!
So basically the target masters are mini megatrons
Zarak: Autobots, Prepare To Feel The Sting Of SCORPONOK!
"Nothing you served up can ever humiliate an autobot"......best line. Scurge was heated...lmaoooo
Kranix's race, is present at the Zarak meeting with the Decepticons. This is a fascinating idea, as it means that Kranix, though obviously noble in the movie, can have kin or relatives or brethren who are evil.
14:59 "Autobots, prepare to die! - Cyclonus"
15:39 when someone says an original joke and someone says it as there own
7:49 - Where's Sureshot?
Nebulons: “We can now turn into the heads of these Autobot robots that fold into cars and planes!”
Decepticons: “We got cyborg Nebulons to become not only OUR heads, but also our guns!”
Nebulons: “Well we stole your idea, and now we can turn into the Autobots’ guns!”
Zarak: “I GOT A GIANT ROBOT SCORPION THAT TURNS INTO A FREAKING CITY!!!”
I don't know why, but I love Transformers for its ridiculous and over the top ideas like that.
I hate this concept.
Sadly this season will mark the end of the cartoon franchise in America because of waning popularity and continuation of the series in Japanese cartoons ,The Headmasters (ignoring everything in The Rebirth since that's not part of Japanese G1 continuity).Super God Masterforce,Victory ;Generation 1 continuity will not be revisited until Beast Wars 3D series in 1994
Arcee: “GIVE IT TO ME SCOURGE”
I know they had an anime HM cartoon but it would have been great to have a full season of this. Hardhead was my favorite of the new ones but Crosshairs was right up there too.
Rodimus Prime regains Cybertron just to see Optimus Prime leave Ultra Magnus to be slaughtered? And lose Cybertron again? Thank God for Spike he saves all the Autobots.
Rodimus kept Magnus on the front lines where he belonged
Zarak reminds me of Dr claw
The headmasters was the true beginning of the end of the Transformers for me. I always hated humans being on the show (Daniel and whoever) and now these headmasters, ugh, they just lost all their cool.
This might have been the beginning of the decline.
But nothing killed the series more than Action Masters.
Head/Target/Power Masters I can at least appreciate in small ways as concepts.
So Transformers became Robotix
Last Episode: The Decepticon's stole the key.
Last Episode: The Decepticons lost the key again, five minutes after stealing it in the first place.
PS: How do humans transform without breaking every bone in their body?
7:53 “uhhhhhh £^
Ok they brought back the person that voices Starscream
"It's too late, Auto-brats! My birthday was yesterday and mom splurged on the layaway!"
Scourge will always be Thundercracker in my books
The whole series should be dubbed. The star saber series. The scramble city. The beast wars neo and beast wars two
5:31/5:32 Why do I find this so funny?
18:44 that’s rob paulsen
Optimus Prime: Autobot Targetmasters, Let Them Have It!
“I think we’re in trouble!”
Okay seriously, is Pinpointer being voiced by Frank Welker, as in the same guy who voiced Scooby-Doo, Fred Jones and Ray Stantz from The Real Ghostbusters cartoon show?
Any1 ever noticed when the decepticons fell in to that hole on the factory( scorponok) it had the decepticon sign already..
Why did Vector sigma tell Galvatron where the plasma energy key was being held?
Manipulating him.
I wish the show continued with this same animation style, it looks like they were trying to mimic the art style of the Marvel comics, which I think is a nice touch in my opinion.
The music ... wow
17:41 Says that to the Autobot Headmasters who can fly.
I remember watching this on a shag carpet.
