That way it was super easy for MIL to find a gift and mom got her full collection. So if your friends or family are unsure what to buy you for birthdays and Christmas, you can tell them that one plate, bowl or whatever is enough. 😊

This must've been what Hilary Duff was talking about when she said, "This is what dreams are made of." It's coming together beautifully, you're doing a great job. I'd much rather it come together slowly and purposefully, than quickly and rushed.
I agree - I appreciate the slow, intentional work you are doing to collect meaningful and appropriate pieces. I also like hearing your joys and frustrations with the process. You're doing great, Karolina!
I normally am not a fan of open shelving, but that particular piece is perfect. Doesn't take up the entire wall, naturally goes with closed cabinets too, and shows off the lovely ceramics you do have!
@@m.maclellan7147 That bowls and plates are from Bolesławiec - Polish manufacture (they send to many european countries, USA, Canada, Japan and a few other countries)

On Saturdays, I work at a gift and china shop here in Illinois, and we sell a lot of Polish pottery similar to yours--it's really beautiful. We've been told that it's made in a specific town in Poland--Boleslawiec.
You don’t need to be too concerned about the ‘busyness’ of the wallpaper. Once you have the room put together, it will blend into the whole look and appear as if it was always meant to be there. I like it very much. You did a great job.
It is a virtue to have the patience to wait and create the home you really want. When it's done it'll be perfect for you and you will know all the work that went into it even if it's not how you like it now.
I'm an architecture student and I have to say that I love what you're doing with this whole apartment! The paintings are amazing! Can you please tell us what site you got them from?
That desk is so beautiful 😭Its so pretty! edit: also, as a traditional artist myself, its nice to see someone appreciating physical, traditionally crafted art. Digital art is beautiful of course, but being a traditional artist is kind of like being the old lady who bakes stale brownies, while everyone else is making gourmet cupcakes. Or least it feels that way 😅
No, no! Being a trad artist is like being the grandmother who bakes from scratch while everyone else is buying cupcakes at the gourmet cupcake/pastry shop. I also am in love with the desk and the buffet!
More like the old lady who bakes incredibly yummy brownies with secrets like applesauce or mayonnaise for richness, and makes her own frosting. Digital is like mix brownies: not necessarily better or worse, you add your own touches, but a different toolkit.
Thank you for talking about the reality check portion. I get down on myself a lot because I bought my condo over a year ago and it still feels bare and the progress feels sooo slow. I am trying to source furniture as local as possible, but the area I live in is difficult for shipping antique and vintage. So it's been very slow. The reality check portion made me feel less bad about the whole process :)
Also remember: it's not so much a process, as it is a journey. We've been slowly collecting furniture and decorations for years while renting, so when we finally got a house, we were able to do a lot quickly, but even 2 years in, there's still pieces I'm hunting for to finish up certain rooms. And this is with amazing thrift stores in our area. It's always a work in progress and just keeping an eye out for something that will just go so well with what you're building.
I am not even going with vintage, but it took me 3 years to buy bed frame I like and fit in my tiny bedroom and 4 years to buy bookcases I like ... (which isn't that great as I started to buy more books now, as I finally have place for them)
In my mid-late twenties (still in that age range lol), I discovered the love of buying paintings. It’s not like, oh I’m spending thousands of dollars on contemporary art, it’s going to the thrift store, or antique store, and just finding things that make me happy. I love your taste!
I moved in to my first solo apartment in Sept 2022 and decorating it has been the most fun I've had in years. Every little choice is an expression of who I am and it makes me so happy. I love watching your journey.
The attention to detail to achieve the vibe you are looking for is absolutely worth it, you have turned an outdated frumpy flat into an elegant understated bespoke charming one of a kind home- it’s you in house form xx
At 26:00 YES, Karolina, I'm 100% with you, and that's because that rug pattern is Southwest, a very American style which is in stark contrast with your entire flat and vibe. I would suggest donating it if you haven't already! Love everything else and you!
I really wish they made desks like that more, because you really do spend so much time at a desk, working/ studying. I don’t mind IKEA but the craftsmanship is incomparable!
Omfg that desk is amazing. I love how that part that pops out on the side functions as a locking mechanism as well. It's so pretty and solid and I love it too. Your flat is so gorgeous. ❤❤❤❤
I replayed "EVERY DAY, I WAKE UP AND HOPE THAT YOU'RE [desk]" at least five times lmao... it cracked me up. I love these updates! You're making such good progress with the flat, it's going to look perfect when you're done.
the plate rack makes the kitchen so cozy!! I just recently moved into a new flat and your message about accumulating furniture and pieces over time was very refreshing. It can get so overwhelming to decorate your home. So excited for the next video!
i love what you said about having different priorities of things you value in your life. my dad is a golfer, and we;ve always bought him golf balls for birthdays and christmas and father's day, and my nana once complained to my mum that he always lost them, but mum told her that it's like buying chocolates or flowers for someone - you appreciate and enjoy them, and then they're gone and you can buy more! not a perfect analogy for what you were talking about, but it reminded me of that
I really enjoy these flat updates. It's so interesting getting to see your unique style translated into interior decorating. You do such cool things, stuff I would never think of, and it's very inspirational! I look forward to seeing the next part!
I love to follow how you slowly find the pieces to make your apartment complete and fit your own style and taste. I do not see anything bad with buying pretty paintings with character on a French auction site and can totally understand that it takes time to find all the furniture and knickknacks.
Your insides are even more lovely than your outs... It's been a delight watching you evolve over the years; my favorite Karolina videos are the ones in which you passionately share your views on the deeply flawed human condition. You deserve every bit of happiness you're experiencing... and while I understand why you meant to bring perspective to the pace at which you've purchased your furnishings, etc., you owe nobody any such explanations. To the bowels of hell with any critics or complainers. I'm as poor as a mouse and I have no reason to expect a change in my circumstances anytime soon. It makes me happy, nevertheless, to see you enjoy the fruits of your labor.
I agree. The round opening thought to be a cupholder is for a small ashtray, and the other openings hold containers for cigarettes and a lighter, or matches. It will be a huge challenge to find the holders in the right sizes for those openings at this point, but use your imagination to repurpose the pull-out. Find shallow dishes that fit the height of the pull-out and cut the pullout to fit the new items. Maybe a hide-away for a TV remote for the TV you don't own yet?
Thank you for showing how gradual moving is, especially fixing up your first house! And with two extra things: having a specific taste outside the norm and (maybe I'm projecting but) not living in the US/western Europe. It feels like every tip I get on the internet for finding anything niche in an accessible price range only applies to the USA and UK and, living in Brazil, I always have to consider the time it'll take to get here, if it's worth it to risk shipping (and shipping costs of course, but I'm guessing this part is not a problem in the eu). So yeah, it's frustrating to see how slow progress is and to live in a messy place for so long. Seeing the videos must be cool though, for us it's obvious the house is coming along! The most important part is to not lose steam (and, if you haven't already, to leave at least one small space organised, even if not finished: I always felt better retreating to the oasis that was my bedroom when the mess got too much in the rest of the house)
I live in Canada and I feel the same too! All the tips are american. It's so frustrating. We have some american stores here like Walmart, but they carry a limited range of things for Canada (and never the good pretty stuff) at double the price. Shipping is insanely expensive in Canada, so that never works.
Omg, yes! Sometimes also Australia, maaaaaybe Germany in Europe, but it's usually a little too expensive for someone without an average German salary... being from non-western country can complicate things.
Thanks for keeping it so real: I'm almost a year into working on my condo and I still have so much to do, it can get a little disheartening at times. Social media makes you forget that actual renovations usually take a really long time, especially when you are hunting for those quality forever pieces that will make it feel like home
Exact word, "HOME", not a photo spread. Slow and steady. Also, she has an interesting story about ever piece. Here in the USA it's often just IKEA & "hand me downs" if you are working class & a decorator if you are rich !
I get a wonderful cozy feeling about “being” in your flat. I’m so enthralled by the vintage decorations and the art, and I’d love to look at everything up close. Beautiful.
That desk is glorious and perfectly engineered! Also love your armchairs with the square detail cut out of the arms. (the dangly bit on the lamp I'd call a lamp fringe)
Karolina, you're bringing a bygone era back to life! Just watching your reno videos, I see it more and more, but today, you're really transporting me back in time in this place as you walk us through, when this flat was originally in its heyday! The vibe is really coming to life 😍❤
The traditional storage place for the table leaf (the board in the middle) is in the back of the coat closet, and requires 3 people to wrestle it (or them, depending) out so it can be used.

Have you considered crown moulding? It makes a room look more elegant and is a fairly cheap and easy thing to add on. I personally think it perfectly counters the minimalist flow of modern living spaces.
Bolesławiec dishwear! 😍 We are collecting elements from our pattern as well. Just tell your friends and family you are collecting it and it will be your presents for the next 10 years 😂 I love how your apartment is shaping up.
i just want to say that your content brings me so much joy. i see so many people "up-cycling" old vintage pieces completely disregarding the history that item has gone through and here we have you cherishing every piece and keeping it as close to its original state as possible. hopefully when i get my own place i will be able to fill it with many many things that hold history at their seams.
I really appreciate the reality check section; everything in the domestic arts are suppose to look effortless. And the truth is it's a lot of work. A ton of admin, a some light handyman skills, some aesthetic/artistic /interior design skills & project management (more admin). I think that's why watching these kind of videos are so satisfying. Because if you have done it yourself you know how detailed and hard it all is even if you do enjoy the process or the outcome.
Hey if you want the light from that green lamp to be less green, you could try using a bulb that you can control the colour of and make the bulb slightly pink. Or add light pink cellophane to the inside of the glass (use a LED bulb if you do this, and check to make sure the bulb doesnt heat up bc the cellophane could burn.) Pink cancels out green :-)
For light items, I've been making cardboard shelves to my needed measurements. They're not permanent, but they're effective. (Hint, use pieces that overlap in varied places or it will buckle immediately, and you want like, three pieces of cardboard to make up each piece.) Edit: I made a shelf for chip bags and snacks and a shelf for tea and coffee.
i LOVEEEE polish pottery and i'm also slowly collecting pieces (and gifted myself a few when i moved into my apartment), and it's so nice to see them make an appearance in your video series!
My mom has an entire 10 or 12 person dinner set of Polish pottery, made up of many different patterns, which she's been collecting for ages. When laying out plates, bowls, etc, we're not allowed to match the plates, bowls, etc. for each place setting. 😂 I have a bunch of Polish pottery "gentleman's mugs" because when it comes to tea, I don't mess around.
I'm really enjoying watching a realistic process of updating and furnishing a flat. It's a nice change from the flipper-type content where everything goes by so fast and with too much compromise, in my opinion. It's not a race. I can wait a year or two to get a tile I like, BRENDA.
Amazing job on finding pieces. It is difficult when you are looking for vintage looks to find pieces. It takes time but is so worth it. You are being selective on your pieces for longevity and reusing and repurposing. It is no one’s business where you spend your money. You earned it and are making wonderful decisions. Those busybodies need to move on. I am going to rewatch with my family because I loved your video so much. I am redoing my home and wished years ago that I had kept some of the furniture that was here when I moved in. Nothing I have found since has lasted like those did.
24:26 - I think you are correct on that being for cigarettes however I think that the two compartments were for a lighter + the cigarettes but the hole you speculated was a cupholder probably held a metal ashtray that was removable for cleaning purposes. You could probably find a bowl that fits and repurpose it as a emergency sewing kit storage or something like that. If you knit or crochet a place to keep stitchmarkers or something.
I could cry over your plates. I had Polish grandparents and got a Polish teapot for my wedding. I am always searching for more dishes to go with it, especially salt & pepper shakers!
I've been renovating my condo in western USA for the last year as well and have also taken a long time furnishing my home! For some practical things like trash cans or curtains I just by cheap placeholders from thrift stores until I find the perfect replacements for them. Happy decorating! It's looking beautiful and positively YOU!
One of my fave RUclipsrs calls that "renting from the thrift store." She buys a placeholder piece, then when she finds her permanent item she donates the temporary piece back to the thrift shop (here in the US we can write-off donations to charity shops on our taxes) and considers what she spent to buy and use the piece for a short-term as "rent." That made me feel so much better about my constant swapping out of stuff.
@@mrscolonyrabble I've totally considered thrifting like renting sometimes! Especially when I'm in the process of trying to figure out my "new style" of clothing, which takes a while and some trial and error.
You have made my day! I have the same love of the old over the new that you do. Wishing I had lived 100 years ago. Bring back romantic home decor and all wood furniture. Looking forward to viewing many more if your videos!!
I love Polish pottery and have a bunch and always wondered if anyone in Poland used it. I have a whole set as well, but all the pieces I shipped back when I visited Poland years ago, broke in transit.
I collect Polish pottery too. I have never sent for pieces as they are on my gift lists for birthdays and Christmas. My son did break a pottery serving platter and I almost broke him!
Also I think an antique mirror with a nice frame would look gorgeous where you have the “ancestor” painting propped up. Your kitchen is gorgeous too, I love it so much!
Your living room needs a 1930s radio sitting where the antique painting is. Mounted on the wall above the radio a cabinet enclosing a TV with picture frame doors that open. A diptych on the doors so when closed the light illuminates the paintings. When watching TV the doors open and the wall light is off. Another diptych affixed to the inside of the doors so when open the light from the TV illuminates them. The cords from the TV affixed to the wall go straight down behind the radio, with vintage square conduit painted the same color as the wall. That would be a good look I think.
It's coming together piece by piece. Thanks for showing the reality of the remodeling and decorating process! I was feeling like a gremlin in my partially-complete room

If you'd like a tip for hanging art, the center of the image should be at your eye level. It's how museums pick the height for their paintings!
Another tip: in a room where you will mostly be sitting to look up from work, reading, or food and see the art, hang it about six inches lower.
This is funny as I have taller brothers who always complain about the height I hang things ! Lol !

Museums and home decoration are two different things imo, at home you should just hang it where it’s most esthetically pleasing

For the extra leaf for your table, wrap it in a blanket and store it under your bed to keep it flat and so it won't warp. Lovely table, by the way. 🙂
good idea
This must've been what Hilary Duff was talking about when she said, "This is what dreams are made of." It's coming together beautifully, you're doing a great job. I'd much rather it come together slowly and purposefully, than quickly and rushed.
Hey, now!
I agree - I appreciate the slow, intentional work you are doing to collect meaningful and appropriate pieces. I also like hearing your joys and frustrations with the process. You're doing great, Karolina!
I hear it's the anniversary of that movie today lol.
I hear it's the anniversary of that movie today lol.
@@chazdellwalker6912 Must've been divine timing.
I normally am not a fan of open shelving, but that particular piece is perfect. Doesn't take up the entire wall, naturally goes with closed cabinets too, and shows off the lovely ceramics you do have!
I LOVE that plate rack & those painted bowls & plates are FANTASTIC!!!!
@@m.maclellan7147 That bowls and plates are from Bolesławiec - Polish manufacture (they send to many european countries, USA, Canada, Japan and a few other countries)
@@MaraMara89 thanks for the information! I will look into it further !
@@MaraMara89 bless you!! I scrolled so far to find this information!
I love that your home literally looks like a high budget movie set, and it's actually YOUR HOME!!!

Motivates me to build my life so i can also have my eccentricities and priorities on display in my own place.
On Saturdays, I work at a gift and china shop here in Illinois, and we sell a lot of Polish pottery similar to yours--it's really beautiful. We've been told that it's made in a specific town in Poland--Boleslawiec.
That's right :) Karolina's plates are from Bolesławiec as well
The paintings are so beautiful
We needed Karolina x Baumgartner Restoration collab, would be so cool
Omg yes!
I thought the same, it would be incredible!
I thought of that, too
I was looking for a comment like this one! Come on, Julian! We know you want to! :P
It was the first thing I thought too! We need cleaning, lining, dewarping, retouching and all that to make them look even more awesome! 💖
Real art is amazing. Digital can be if you cannot afford the real thing ❤
Dude all the kudos to your dad for all his help! The learning curve is real! Your house is looking lovely so far hun
So much better to wait than spend on things you're only going to swap out eventually for what you really want.
(which isn't that great as I started to buy more books now, as I finally have place for them)
I adore that you also share the trash and hot mess we still look at while moving and decorating! 👏🏾
I have genuinely been loving seeing your renovation and decorating videos!
Sometimes projects like that can take years! My parents say it's a never-ending process sometimes, but that's what makes the project so worth it!
Really appreciated the mid-vid reality check. You do those things so well. Also, your flat is looking better and better every time.
Yay! Bolesławiec pottery, and the peacock pattern to boot! I grew up with these in my house too. So nice to see.
So happy dad is there to help you out still Karolina !!!!😊😊😊😊😊
In my mid-late twenties (still in that age range lol), I discovered the love of buying paintings. It’s not like, oh I’m spending thousands of dollars on contemporary art, it’s going to the thrift store, or antique store, and just finding things that make me happy. I love your taste!
I moved in to my first solo apartment in Sept 2022 and decorating it has been the most fun I've had in years. Every little choice is an expression of who I am and it makes me so happy. I love watching your journey.
I'll never afford a house, so I'm living vicariously through you. Thank you for blessing me with this video meme mother 🙏
The fewer dishes you own, the fewer dirty dishes you’ll ever have. I have always lived by those words.
Omfg that desk is amazing. I love how that part that pops out on the side functions as a locking mechanism as well. It's so pretty and solid and I love it too. Your flat is so gorgeous. ❤❤❤❤
I have a bureau that belonged to my grandparents that has the same locking mechanism as the desk.
So excited for the next video!
i love what you said about having different priorities of things you value in your life. my dad is a golfer, and we;ve always bought him golf balls for birthdays and christmas and father's day, and my nana once complained to my mum that he always lost them, but mum told her that it's like buying chocolates or flowers for someone - you appreciate and enjoy them, and then they're gone and you can buy more!
not a perfect analogy for what you were talking about, but it reminded me of that
The fact you’re going full Merchant-Ivory on your flat is awesome! Also, great job with the renovation.
The “cup holder” was for the ash tray so you could take it out and wash it from time to time. The other 2 parts were for cigarettes and a lighter.
I’m living for the flat saga at this point
A decorating tip I have is to use trays on furniture to group items. You can also use dresser scarves!
The flat is looking fabulous. Your Dad is a gem.
Your art deco clock is absolutely to die for! It’s beautiful. I think the cup holder you saw in the pull out was for an ashtray maybe
Me: *turns away from my laptop to grab a cup of coffee*
Karolina: Could you focus??
Me: *surprised Pikachu face* Yes ma'am 👁👄👁
🤣🤣🤣
"...and the shelf coming for this area is to display the collection I have not yet collected." I felt that! 🤣 💜👾💜
Thanks massively to dads everywhere
Nossa sim! É muito difícil encontrar móveis diferentes e com preços acessíveis :/

The perfect vintage wall accent/art is a printers drawer full of little vintage knickknacks. As well as a wall of vintage decorative plates.
I get a wonderful cozy feeling about “being” in your flat. I’m so enthralled by the vintage decorations and the art, and I’d love to look at everything up close. Beautiful.
I so appreciate your use of color throughout your space! The plates are gorgeous!
I prefer under the bed, in a protective bag. Sadly, the puppy thinks the protective bag is super fun to chew.
With optimal performance achieved if you knock at minimum 80% of the coats in the closet onto the head of the people fetching the leaf.
Lol, truth. I'm so glad my extendable table has the extension piece integrated
ours is wrapped up in a blanket in the dining room, just sitting there.
You were at my Grandparents house for Thanksgiving weren't you.

Have you considered crown moulding? It makes a room look more elegant and is a fairly cheap and easy thing to add on. I personally think it perfectly counters the minimalist flow of modern living spaces.
Agree
Yes, great idea!

Bolesławiec dishwear! 😍 We are collecting elements from our pattern as well. Just tell your friends and family you are collecting it and it will be your presents for the next 10 years 😂 I love how your apartment is shaping up.
I have to say that I really love your renovation videos, I like how considerate you are! Love from Germany!
i just want to say that your content brings me so much joy. i see so many people "up-cycling" old vintage pieces completely disregarding the history that item has gone through and here we have you cherishing every piece and keeping it as close to its original state as possible. hopefully when i get my own place i will be able to fill it with many many things that hold history at their seams.
I love watching these videos, they're just one long string of going "ooohh!" and "aahhh!" at all the delightful things Karolina picks out.
Right now I’m decorating my room in a 1940s theme so like I’m obsessed with these vibes
This apartment is starting to look like it's from a 20s art-deco catalogue. And I'm here for it!
Thanks for the realism, Meme Mum. I often forget what video editing and interior decor can actually be like.
Hey if you want the light from that green lamp to be less green, you could try using a bulb that you can control the colour of and make the bulb slightly pink. Or add light pink cellophane to the inside of the glass (use a LED bulb if you do this, and check to make sure the bulb doesnt heat up bc the cellophane could burn.)
Pink cancels out green :-)
ooh that's smart.
My aunt who lived in Germany collects the same pattern you do! Polish pottery is so fun and beautiful!
I LOVE Polish ceramics. When I visited Poland, I purposefully left extra space in my luggage for ceramics. Adore the pattern you chose. 🥰❤️❤️
For light items, I've been making cardboard shelves to my needed measurements. They're not permanent, but they're effective. (Hint, use pieces that overlap in varied places or it will buckle immediately, and you want like, three pieces of cardboard to make up each piece.)
Edit: I made a shelf for chip bags and snacks and a shelf for tea and coffee.
i LOVEEEE polish pottery and i'm also slowly collecting pieces (and gifted myself a few when i moved into my apartment), and it's so nice to see them make an appearance in your video series!
My mom has an entire 10 or 12 person dinner set of Polish pottery, made up of many different patterns, which she's been collecting for ages. When laying out plates, bowls, etc, we're not allowed to match the plates, bowls, etc. for each place setting. 😂
I have a bunch of Polish pottery "gentleman's mugs" because when it comes to tea, I don't mess around.
@@kerriemckinstry-jett8625 that's the kind of collection i'm working on - a mismatched one!
@@haggish_ That's honestly the best kind, as long as they all generally harmonize. I'm happy with my Polish pottery mugs. 😊 Good luck!
Thanks for that reality check in the middle. Always good to have one of those.
That's absolutely heartbreaking.
Hope that the rainy day is going well for you. Take care.
- Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
That is just heartbreaking! I didn't realize Poland had such good ceramics, but the little look at the website was very promising.
We use it. It is beautiful for family gattering etc.
Oh no!
Pretty sure that moving element in the desk is a secret compartment as well. Love love love it
Your living room needs a 1930s radio sitting where the antique painting is.
I am INVESTED in this you don’t understand. After college I want to decorate my future apartment like this so bad. Also that wallpaper is gorgeous
it's really heartwarming whenever mr papa appears to help
It's coming together piece by piece. Thanks for showing the reality of the remodeling and decorating process! I was feeling like a gremlin in my partially-complete room
