Hello Rachel I love your vids and you hope you have a great day or night baii btw your really pretty also did you just hit 1mill cause if you did congrats
Hi Rachel! I’ve been a huge fan of your channel for a long time now and I just wanted to say congratulations on 1 million subscribers!! You deserve it! :D
This is one of the first kitchen remodels of a historic home where I don't hate the new kitchen. It keeps the farm house aesthetic with updated touches, which I appreciate.
Exactly. It feels like every time I see a kitchen remodeling of a historic house they just completely modernise the kitchen and don't leave a single trace of the original style of the house. I honestly hate when people buy historic houses and completely modernise every inch of it. Like, if you want a modern house *buy a freaking modern house,* don't ruin a historic one. Even if you want the exterior to look more historic but not the inside, buy a modern house and change the exterior to look older (that's what my family is going to do as soon as we finish the deal to get our new house, because it is very blocky and lacks any identity since it was being used as an elderly care center before)
"We started this process in February or March. It is now July." Woman that's amazing! We DIY'd our kitchen from Ikea too and started in 2017. We're still trying to figure out a wiring issue for the under-cabinet lighting and can't complete the backsplash until that's done. Kitchens are just Like That.
she’s very good at it! just a bit of a perfectionist cause she wants it to be to her liking :D it can be hard sometimes to get things just right, but rachel did a wonderful, inspiring job
as someone who works in the kitchen department of a home improvement store, this kitchen is WONDERFUL and it suits your lovely house so nicely (also i’m jealous of that secret dishwasher. that’s so so cool)

I think the best renovations for historical houses are ones where the end result looks like it should have been there all along, and this kitchen absolutely fits the bill. It's so beautiful, and it's wonderful y'all have a lovely space like this for your forever home 🥰
Me (who will literally never be able to afford a house unless I started selling organs on the black market): ah yes, time to live out my dreams of being an ethereal autumn witch who lives in a deliciously old house vicariously via Rachel Maksy *presses play*
Me too!!!! I live in California and the houses are so ridiculous expensive, how expensive you ask? how about more than 1 million dollars!!!! I cannot afford a house, but I don't want to move from here. I would love to have a house like her, but maybe one day when I win the lottery!!!!
Hoping the world changes and sending out the most positive vibes that we all get to buy houses and make our dream homes too (and have a good weekend) ❤️😊
Lots of first time buyer and down-payment assistance programs (many you never have to pay back) out there. Don't be afraid to stick a toe in the water.
The Kitchen is "the heart of the home" and let me tell you it SUCKS when it doesn't flow and isn't ideally functional. I have a lot of similar issues as you did, in my current kitchen. Looks like you opened it up and made it so much more fitting to your needs. I hope it feels as good as it looks because it looks amazing!! Thanks for sharing, time to redo mine.
My kitchen is the bumhole of the house. Tiny, full.of sh and kinda clean, but not really. The heart of my house is either the livingroom/craftroom/bedroom (one room) or the bathroom/toilet (one room) because though it has some clogged arteries with laundry and boxes of old make up and washingbags, it is the lightest and nicest room in the house and very, very important.
My parents have been in their current house for almost 15 years and they are still talking about “fixing” the kitchen! So kudos for getting it done immediately!! Also, I love your “speak friend and enter” sign and may or may not be getting ready to search for one myself … Congratulations on 1 million followers!!!
🎉 Congrats on your kitchen reno being done at last! The weird "fart" smell that you smelled while being a cabinet troll was probably the lubricant that they put on the drawer glides. Yucky stuff, but it helps your drawers close easier. Hopefully that made sense 🤷♀️
As someone who was hired at the height of the pandemic by IKEA, I can say that every store in the continental US has had issues getting materials/items shipped to their stores and distro centers. There's a labor and materials shortage that's being exacerbated by the rona and the crisis over in Ukrane (and the occasional boat getting stuck in a canal). It's continuing to be an absolute dumpster fire for management and customers. 🙃
CONGRATS ON A MILLION. So thrilled for you and also glad to see the kitchen finally done! Quick edit: When you said you could talk all day about how grateful you are, I think I speak for many when I say we feel the same for what you bring to us in your little corner of the internet. The warmth and coziness and fun have been invaluable in these few stressful years, and I can't tell you enough how much I'm grateful for you being here for us. Thanks for what you do, truly
Absolutely. I wasn't a subscriber until a few months ago but I regularly enjoyed content when the algorithm blessed me with it. Every time Rachel uploads a video it's like a friend I don't get to see, sharing a vlog about fun, interesting things. She doesn't take herself too seriously, she's honest when she goofs up something, and it's refreshing and has made the being stuck in the pandemic as a disabled, housebound person a bit less lonesome.
Absolutely agree. I did this for my cottage (back in 2000), candle parphernalia and autumnal decor feature for a "Practical Magic" inspired kitchen. Congrats Rachel and Nick, great work! Best wishes.
I love how this turned out! Hot tip: a bead of silicone (the paintable kind or white) along the edges of the trim or shiplap, even in between the different sheets and it will give it that final chef's kiss finish. Helps with managing dust and spiders too.
Oh, here's a random thought. Get a can of " Camp Dry " spray sealant, then choose your favorite stencils, and create invisible pictures on your walkway or stepping stones that only show when it rains. Just be Veeerrry careful of over spray around the stencils. Use tape and paper to make a bowl shield around them if necessary, especially little ones.
Listen, hubby and I will always rememeber "The Kitchen Designer from H*ll" who we worked with to do the renovation on OUR kitchen. WE don't ever want to do that again, EITHER. Also: white floor tiles? Same. SEAL THE GROUT. ASAP. But it will probably still be a pain showing any bit of dirt. Still GORGEOUS job you two. The change is drastic and you did a beautiful new kitchen. Enjoy!!
Yes absolutely 100% seal the grout ASAP!!! Sometimes people aren't told about it, it wasn't included in the tiling service, etc. But it's *super* worth it!! Protect that grout, it'll extend the life of your floor, and it'll keep looking pretty and resist cracking, and make the tile easier to clean - always a plus 👍
Me looking at Rachel's kitchen: "unfortunately, I love it" Me looking at my apartment kitchen: "maybe if I add more fairy lights I won't be able to see the ugly" Seriously though, I was taking inspiration screenshots for when I finally buy my own house :)
And seal the branch with polyurethane. The wood will dry out and get brittle and start rotting and splinter and just making a mess everywhere. Remember, the old folks back in the day used big branches for drying racks _because they couldn't afford metal for a real rack_ they were making do You don't have to. Buy a real drying rack or a cheap rod from a thrift store or something.
@@druidriley3163 But the branch is free and ~*aesthetic*~. I personally have raw pieces of wood and branches as random decor in my house for years (I've got macrame on a raw branch, a stump that a ceramic frog sun-bathes on, and a jewelry "tree" made from real branches) and they haven't rotted yet. Wood be sturdy, as long as it's not sitting on the forest floor getting actively composted.
First off the kitchen came out so good it’s so pretty and cohesive as someone with a kitchen currently under renovation it’s nice seeing someone so happy in their kitchen and SECONDLY YOU HIT 1 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS CONGRATULATIONS!!! I clicked on the vid and was so enthralled by the renovation I didn’t see the sub count until you mentioned the flowers that’s amazing you deserve it so much you’re channel is so much fun to watch and your creativity knows no bounds congratulations again!!
I just screamed “YES!!!!!! Rachel’s kitchen video is finally up!!!!!” And my husband just looked at me very knowingly. Lol. He’s been hearing about how excited I am to see this 🤪
Demolishing the kitchen with a sledge hammer. Nick: steel cap work shoes. Rachel: pair of socks 🤣 Congrats on 1 Million!!!!! And the kitchen looks amazing! Thank you for taking us on a tour! (Edit: typo)
When I was a preteen, growing up "cottage core" before that was a thing, my big treat was being allowed to watch Saturday morning cartoons and eat cold (though not sugar-loaded) cereal. Now, almost 50 years later, I watch Rachel on Saturday mornings, with perfectly loaded coffee and toast (even though I could now buy the sugar cereal if I wanted). Thanks for making fun content and sharing the bloopers, and congrats on reaching the million mark!
If you ever get to selling the place, replace the Dutch door with a standard door before you put it up for sale and take the Dutch door with you. Totally worth it.
CONGRATS ON ONE MILLION!! It’s so incredibly deserved and lovely to see someone achieve a goal of theirs. Your content is a warm cup of tea on a cold autumn day for me so I’m so happy for you!!
I once read a study, many years ago and I can't even remember enough to find it for citation, of how many hours 'someone' (almost always a woman) in a household spent washing dishes every day/week/month/year. They counted from 'lone inhabitant' to farm family of 12 + 5 farmhands. It was staggering. Many, many, many hours spent washing dishes. I kissed my dishwasher right on the front dial!
Amen. I have a nearly 100 year old house. There is no dishwasher. I sorely miss the dishwasher I had in my old apartment. And it's not as easy to just buy one and install in an old house. First - your century old kitchen does not have the plumbing to hook up to a dishwasher. You will need to pay a plumber for the upgrade. In an old house, you may or may not have sufficient electric current to run the appliance. You will need to hire an electrician to hook up the dishwasher and/or rewire your kitchen. So my desire for a relatively inexpensive appliance purchase will remain a pipe dream unless I win the lottery due to all the additional expenses in installing something so simple.
@@druidriley3163 Get you a portable dishwasher!! They hook right up to the faucet with the little adapter that comes with it: NO PLUMBER NEEDED! I ran one in my 70 year old house from a regular electrical outlet, no problem! They come on wheels so you can wheel it away when not in use, but we removed the cabinet by the sink and it lived there just like a regular dishwasher.. They normally come with a butcher block top so you will not lose any counter top space. I loved mine, had it for 12 years until we moved!! Highly recommend, and, portable dishwashers are not expensive and they are full sized! And...wait for it... I got it at Lowe's. Easy peasy!
@@michaelsnider2484 - help me out here. From what I read about them, you hook up the hose of the dishwasher to the spigot of the kitchen sink. It appears that you screw the hose onto the faucet nozzle. Is that true? But there are no threads on my kitchen sink nozzle. It's one piece.
@@druidriley3163as I recall it is a quick release joint adapter that comes with the dishwasher. Also, when they deliver it do not let them charge you an installation fee because there is no installation.
@@druidriley3163 it is not like hooking up a garden hose by twisting it on. No threads needed. Also, our house only had a 60 Amp service and it ran fine. I am so excited for you: definately look into getting one- I was madly in love with mine! A couple of houses we lived in when I was growing up had portable dishwashers, too and we had a family of 5 using them. Lemme know how it goes!🥰
as someone who has been renovating a hundred year old house for a couple of years I tell you that that laser you used to put up the shelves will literally save you and is great for so many things :)
Rachel: "so we chose an Ikea kitchen..." Me: free kitchen? Ikea sponser? Rachel: "... and it was a nightmare!" Me: never mind 🤣🤣 Great result!! A real Rachelesque stunning kitchen and congratulations on hitting one million!!! 🥳🥳🥳
Yea I was just thinking that she liked the greens on her other murals and especially with the branch herb thing that would be the perfect way to add touches of green to the kitchen (along with possibly trim on the cabinets and drawers?) in a way that she would actually enjoy.
Pre-mixed spackle can have a moisture indicator in it that is purple until it dries. When you applied the lime wash sans primer, you reactivated the color indicator with the water in it. A kitchen redo is always a lot of work, but so worth it. Great job!
as someone who is also renovating a house, bought an ikea kitchen, and has been waiting for their countertops since early december: I feel your pain 😂 your kitchen turned out gorgeous!! and congrats on the 1 million! 🧡
I just moved into my grandmas old house that hasnt been touched since she died a couple of years ago, I literally moved from the US to England so we could make up lost time with my extended family. Moving into this house has been so overwhelming, its dated, very dirty, and EXTREMELY old fashioned (not in a cute way). Part of my anxiety is needing a space to be just right and if it takes too long I get very depressed and don't want to do it anymore. These renovation videos really help me out of that mindset and give me so many ideas that I become excited again!
Congratulations on your "New-Old" Kitchen! You've been so busy doing all the things. Having something in working order that you will see everyday is surely a nice achievement beyond the Subscriber Count!
You're papa getting you celebration flowers is so wholesome. The kitchen turned out absolutely phenomenal! It has a warm and inviting feeling and a nice rustic flavor, but in a more classical sense and not a kitschy tacky way.
I'm in awe of what you've done with that kitchen (and I'm obviously including your husband), this video was very soothing to watch and I'm genuinely excited for you two - and your family and friends - to enjoy that beautiful space you created. 🥰
GIRL! You didn't mention 1 million subscribers! I'm SO HAPPY for you. YOU DID IT! Woo woo! You deserve all the success. You've built this into something amazing.
This turned out so insanely beautiful. I would totally love a kitchen like that. Also...once you build Ikea furniture with your partner and dont divorce, you can achieve anything together.
Looks incredible!! Definitely recommend using trim and molding to extend your cabinets up to the ceiling, for aesthetic reasons as well as practical (dust, dirt, and general kitchen grime will collect on top of your cabinets and it’s damn near impossible to clean off so taking them all the way up to the ceiling prevents that eventually smelly issue).
To clean all the grimey dust on top of your cabinets use Simple Green and rags. If REALLY bad carefully! use mineral spirits and a stainless steel scrubber. Do this at least yearly.
You can clean the tops quite easily with a mixture of white vinegar, a small squirt of a gentle washing up liquid and water (mix in a clean empty plastic bottle) can optionally add a couple of drops of an essential oil to reduce the vinegar smell. It really cuts through the grease! Also this mixture (without the essential oils) is also great for cleaning glass (windows) as once rinsed off you get a streak free shine. Oh yeah and its good as a side cleaner, round the sink & for in the bathroom too (the vinegar helps dissolve limescale). Saves buying a ton of different products too.
I wish I'd have known about the grime when I had my first (poorly ventilated tiny) flat - I stored my tupperware and The Good Crockery on top of the cupboards and oh my god... a black film of grime covered EVERYTHING, not even the dishwasher got it off 🤢

Man, you can do a Reno Video for every room in your house: I love them. I’ve been putting off doing the necessary cleaning and donating that I need to do to be able to do redecorating at my place but whenever I see how pretty your renovations come out I get inspired and I put in some work on it.
Congrats on 1 MILLION, Rachel! So happy to see someone so deserving reach such a huge goal! Been watching you for a while and am glad to see you continue to grow. Your content is a huge inspiration and a comfort to me on dreary days. Thank you for existing
Rachel, thank you for being here for us. Your humor, humility and overall brilliant, creative brain is a joyous journey we are all here for!! Wonderful job on the reno. You and Nick killed it!😍😍😍
I learned that if routinely do homemade pet food, it ups your comfort with recipes. Pets are so appreciative of fresh food that is good to freeze as keeps nutrients. You learn to stew beef, poach whole chicken or roast. Add sardines that you can pan fry. Low pressure as not for you, but still get life of a cook handling large amounts of food. A mini deep freezer is good to buy meats on sale. Can see remodel work it takes to put in new life ...tossing older design that did not age over decades as a classic. Looks like space was built for what it is ...very good modernization in counter top and sink fixtures etc.
This video is the most I've seen [and heard] of your cat in all the years I've been watching your stuff. I love it. The rest of the video was nice and *aesthetic* as well, too, but... KITTY! [Seriously though, good job on the kitchen]
that archway was a GORGEOUS choice, I really admire how well executed your vision for your kitchen went! congratulations on 1 mil too!!! I've been watching you for years, and it's been amazing to see your growth, can't wait to see where life takes you next!
This whole video was so amazing but the way you so humbly passed over “these are the flowers my dad got me for hitting a million subscribers” was so sweet and your dad sounds so nice and adorable 😭
I’d never saw a vlogger that has same personality as me, quirky and never taking yourself seriously. You are my favorite RUclipsr and fashion inspo. Been a silent follower since The Pinup Companion era when you have 100k subs. Now you’ve hit 1 Million, I just wanna say CONGRATULATIONS 💖💖💖 stay unique, creative, and weirdly adorable, Rachel
The kitchen looks amazing, Nick is so on point, using the laser level and the way you decorated ,brings all the elements together and everything seems to flow. Excellent job. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
For the branch idea, be sure to sterilize the stick (either by boiling or baking for a bit) before leaving it hanging in your kitchen - don't want anything weird mixing in with your drinks 💀 Also no sweat about the decorating of shelves! (A) your style preferences will vary over time and as you collect new trinkets (B) if someone says they decorated their shelves in one go, they must lying because with so many combination possibilities, how can the first one be the right one?! Your kitchen is so cute and quaint and cozy, you and Nick did a great job 😍
Congrats on both the kitchen and 1 million subscribers. It takes so much work to renovate but oh my goodness it is a gorgeous kitchen. Well done, Rachel, Nick and helper boi Frodo.
Congrats on 1 million! I remember how you struggled and overcame your relationship with the number game but even so it's exciting and you and your content deserve it!
Oh, such a nice result! Great job. I think your choices are going to prove to be pretty timeless, because you did what you love rather than what’s trendy. So lovely and charming. And yes the light floor will get dirty, but it will reflect a lot of light in winter. Same with the beige walls. Yay you!
I feel very cool knowing I picked the same Ikea kitchen set as you did! (Man, the things that make you feel cool as an adult are tragically uncool.) Your kitchen looks gorgeous! Love the cute little breakfast nook, so cozy while being light and airy at the same time!
Queeeen! So thrilled on your reaching 1 million. Major congratulations on something so well deserved. You are this little community's favorite floor troll. ❤️ (Also, so excited to see the kitchen reno. I'm in need of some inspiration.)
This is such a beautiful renovation! The neutral pallette is a whole vibe, and also totally timeless. It's nice to see an American kitchen reno that's bright and airy, I find so many US kitchens dark. and can we just say THAT DOOR IS BEAUT.
I hereby request a cosplay of ANY Jennifer Coolidge character, pleeease! Your (involuntary) impression is just too spot on and I have been laughing my butt off from these few instances alone :D
I am a year late to the party but this just showed up on my recommended and I would like to just, you know, remind you that your kitchen is absolutely beautiful because it is. Also! Those panels that were on the cabinets and are now in the entryway are called beadboard - I've used that stuff before, it's very sturdy and looks lovely with a bit of trim on it. Anyway I've no idea if your kitchen has evolved since this video, but the color choices were lovely and you did an amazing job!
I totally get the "mildly afraid of the dark" feeling. It gets amplified if there's any mirrors around. I'm loving the HGTV style video from you, Chip and Joanna eat your hearts out! (Edited because I forgot the reason I wanted to comment: congratulations on 1M subs! 🥳)
Congrats on one million I've been watching for a few years and your videos bring me lots of inspiration and joy (especially Frodo and Binks content). I'm so happy for you !!
Kitchens and bathrooms are possibly the hardest spaces in a house to renovate. I speak from being a kid whose parents renovated houses for a living and I helped out. The problems were always in the ✨️kitchen & bathrooms ✨️
If you have glass shelves do not overload them. We had a glass shelf crack on us and it was super stressful trying to retrieve everything from the cupboard without losing it. We now have our glasses on the top and mugs on the bottom
That comment about the dishwasher. I felt that in my soul! When we moved into our new house I was SO STOKED about just sticking the dirty dishes in and pushing a button. 😁
Cooking is one of the strongest ceremonies for life. When recipes are put together, the kitchen is a chemical laboratory involving air, fire, water and the earth. This is what gives value to humans and elevates their spiritual qualities. If you take a frozen box and stick it in the microwave, you become connected to the factory. - Laura Esquivel
Your house tours always make me emotional. Knowing that there are people like you who commit to vintage aesthetics with such love and care make me so happy I want to cry. I live in France and old houses here don't look like that at all, it is a typically American home (at least in my European mind) and I'm weirdly grateful that some people preserve the memory and the particularities of those places. Plus, knowing full well that your house reflects who you are as a person and putting myself in your shoes, I can only imagine how happy you must be to live there (and that makes me want to shed some more happy tears). I could watch those videos all day... 🫶
These comments always freak me the hell out because I'm an Arwen but I'm a ginger. Her old hair is more familiar for me and always have a brain fart moment before I'm like oh... yeah... lord of the rings. 😅. Don't blame me, I'm welsh.
It's so beautiful 😭😭😭 such aesthetic, wow. Putting this on my vision board. What a great landmark for both your home and your channel with 1 million subscribers! Congratulations! You deserve it!
I just painted my whole cottage mostly in limewash. There where regrets. My shoulders and arms where screaming. I also found out the purpling over wood filler though haha. Nearly lost my mind there. *Highly* recommend getting a matte sealer to protect the paint. It's gorgeous though. Excellent job on the remodel. And I LOVE your door almost as much as I love my vintage door 😆
Great job Rachel!. Two comments...... The glass shelves in the upper cabinets are so the light (from the interior cabinet lights) bounces around inside the cabinet to highlight pretty objects - the light travels through the the glass shelves. If you put wood shelves there instead it will all be dark. I think the glass doors with the glass shelves are designed to have a "furniture" look - like the set of uppers is a glass door hutch. Also, by code - the glass shelves have to be tempered glass - plenty strong....I wouldn't worry about it. Also - maybe you know this already but the wire mesh decorative thing you hung on the shelf hook is a "Safety Greater". You push chunks of soft cheese like a mozzarella through the wire mesh to end up with grated-like chunks of cheese and since it is not sharp you are 'safe"! I have one & I learned about what it really is from Cook's Illustrated.
As someone who also has always wanted a dutch door, I get it. Your kitchen and breakfast nook look magical and so lovely and they both fulfill and worsen my desire to decorate/remodel my own home.
I love the transformation. Ikea flat pack items are a love/hate thing for me and yours came out wonderfully. So proud of you and Nick. Frodo and Binks are adorable! Congratulations on 1 million subs!
I love Dutch doors also. I also love the idea of a ledge on the lower partition to cool off pie😄. I love old movies, so this makes me happy. Great video, it's so nice to see the steps to create such a beautiful result❤
You know what I really enjoy about you and Nick? You appear to be so down to earth. Even though we all know that buying a house in these days is freakin expensive, you bought an old house and not a shiny new glamour house where everything is just out of dimension. You bought an ikea kitchen and not an super expensive one. You try to do as much as possible by yourselves which also helps us to rely to you. Thank you for being normal.
Eh… your interior design skills are absolutely NOT in question the kitchen looks wonderful and minimal-stress now that it’s all done. So cool! May you be as renewed as that fabulous kitchen is!!
We bought a fixer-upper in 2020 and we have been living without a kitchen for..... [checks notes] 15 months. Yours looks AMAZING and if mine ends up looking half as nice I'll be happy.
This room is beautiful 🤩!! The color palette and light coming in from the windows make it even more dreamy! This is now officially my dream kitchen, it’s giving…✨shire-farmhouse core✨I can’t wait to see the rest of your house when it’s finished, y’all would be the Chip and Joanna of the shire! And congrats on one million!
I legitimately yelped when I saw you hit 1 million! I found your channel right before the pandemic officially shut everything down. Binge watching your videos and seeing your uploads every week honestly helped me stay sane and I also rediscovered my love for vintage things. Congratulations Rachel!
Also, I love your “speak friend and enter” sign and may or may not be getting ready to search for one myself …
Congratulations on 1 million followers!!!
I feel you. Last week I sold my first kitchen in months with every item available. Shocking!
I thought you said "disco center" 🙃
@@broadway520 omg it wasnt?… i had to go back and reread once u saw your comment 😆
I forgot about that fucking boat lol 😂
As someone who works at a hardware store since the first lockdown in May 2020, yeah I feel ya. It's been a messss 🤪
@@alliekingsley7919 Can't agree more, never a dull moment
Here, here!
I am glad I clicked on the "Read More" of your comment! So sweet and true!
The neutral colours look great! Just think when you decorate for the seasons, for example Halloween, all of your decoration will stand out nicely.
Absolutely agree. I did this for my cottage (back in 2000), candle parphernalia and autumnal decor feature for a "Practical Magic" inspired kitchen. Congrats Rachel and Nick, great work! Best wishes.
You can also go colorful and do all holiday/ seasonal decor in one color
I love how this turned out! Hot tip: a bead of silicone (the paintable kind or white) along the edges of the trim or shiplap, even in between the different sheets and it will give it that final chef's kiss finish. Helps with managing dust and spiders too.
Yes! I was going to comment this as well, it was driving me a bit nutty seeing the dark cracks where the shiplap meets the wall.
Agreed! I was thinking it would look so much tidier with a bit of caulking/finishing in the coat nook
Agreed.
Oh, here's a random thought. Get a can of " Camp Dry " spray sealant, then choose your favorite stencils, and create invisible pictures on your walkway or stepping stones that only show when it rains.
Just be Veeerrry careful of over spray around the stencils. Use tape and paper to make a bowl shield around them if necessary, especially little ones.
this is such a cute idea!
That’s such a brilliant idea
How exactly does that work? I tried googling whatever "camp dry" is but got no hits
@@zp5016 I think they means the Kiwi brand of Camp Dry heavy duty water repellent. Amazon sells it.
It's shit for the environment though, consider that before buying.
Me looking at Rachel's kitchen: "unfortunately, I love it"
Me looking at my apartment kitchen: "maybe if I add more fairy lights I won't be able to see the ugly"
Seriously though, I was taking inspiration screenshots for when I finally buy my own house :)
Any updates on your kitchen? 😊
Re: Getting a Branch to dry stuff on, Try to keep track of what kind of tree you get it from so you can bake it to remove microbes/kill insects.
But the branch is free.😕
@@druidriley3163 But the branch is free and ~*aesthetic*~. I personally have raw pieces of wood and branches as random decor in my house for years (I've got macrame on a raw branch, a stump that a ceramic frog sun-bathes on, and a jewelry "tree" made from real branches) and they haven't rotted yet.
Just wanna second this comment!! ❤

Kitchen looks wonderful. Suggestion: a Rachel mural on the "branch" wall. With the 3D branch. Perfection!
Yea I was just thinking that she liked the greens on her other murals and especially with the branch herb thing that would be the perfect way to add touches of green to the kitchen (along with possibly trim on the cabinets and drawers?) in a way that she would actually enjoy.
As a home designer, chef's kiss!!
Pre-mixed spackle can have a moisture indicator in it that is purple until it dries. When you applied the lime wash sans primer, you reactivated the color indicator with the water in it.

Its a very good base so you can change the decor whenever you want
I just moved into my grandmas old house that hasnt been touched since she died a couple of years ago, I literally moved from the US to England so we could make up lost time with my extended family. Moving into this house has been so overwhelming, its dated, very dirty, and EXTREMELY old fashioned (not in a cute way). Part of my anxiety is needing a space to be just right and if it takes too long I get very depressed and don't want to do it anymore. These renovation videos really help me out of that mindset and give me so many ideas that I become excited again!
Rachel: I’m gonna do a lime wash and make things look old and rustic

No kidding, the first wash took me back to my childhood. It looked just like the walls in my Great- grandparents house.

I always say the same!
Was thinking the same thing , makes room feel taller x
I wish I'd have known about the grime when I had my first (poorly ventilated tiny) flat - I stored my tupperware and The Good Crockery on top of the cupboards and oh my god... a black film of grime covered EVERYTHING, not even the dishwasher got it off 🤢
I love how the kitchen went from underwhelming 90' meh to astonishinly aesthetic Pinterest dream ♡

You and Nick killed it!😍😍😍
At least they killed the old cabinets in a positive and in some ways reviving manner. (I know, what you meant by killing it.)

For the branch idea, be sure to sterilize the stick (either by boiling or baking for a bit) before leaving it hanging in your kitchen - don't want anything weird mixing in with your drinks 💀
Also no sweat about the decorating of shelves! (A) your style preferences will vary over time and as you collect new trinkets (B) if someone says they decorated their shelves in one go, they must lying because with so many combination possibilities, how can the first one be the right one?!

I love the Dutch door so much I want a drawing of Rachel smiling out through it on a mug !
