Very rarely do you find a death metal drummer who can groove as well as plow. Being a drummer of 15 years myself, Flo is one of the better drummers I've ever seen.
He's a great jazz drummer to, he's really good, my #1 drummer. Never seen faster tighter blastbeats, and he also plays some nice grooves in between in stead of all the machine gun drummers. That's what makes him the best for me.
God on drums! In every single way! Sometimes, when I see a drummer, who seems to be better than Flo I use to think "Wow, this guy is the master!" ...but then Flo comes up with something what is even sicker than that! EVERYTIME!!! NO EXCEPTION!
i love his tom sound...he doesn't just muffle the shit out of them and add reverb like so many other metal drummers, they actually have a nice natural resonance...
For those who mentioned Hellhammer and Dimmu; the thing that Flo has on both those drummers is that they rely heavily on drum triggers to reach those speeds (as they should.) Flo, in this video and on the albums "Blasphemy Made Flesh" and "None So Vile" reaches incredible double bass speeds without the use of triggers; he has to exert far more force on each pedal hit to get the clean bass drum sound he does. I do love drummers who have the ability to play fast, but Flo is a technical master.
Flo has always been one of my favorite drummers. His solo'ing has always been blinding when it comes to pure technical skill, but lacks in musicality. He really shines with the music he creates with Cryptopsy... Once Was Not, None So Vile, and Whisper Supremacy are the albums I highly recommend checking out. Once Was Not is my personal favorite when it comes to a pure drum-performance album. His style has always been best when applied to extreme metal music. Either way, love it.
Saw these guys with GWAR and wasn't a fan of Cryptopsy (not my genre) but I absolutely can't deny noticing that Flo is insane. Just hearing him tune his kit before the show you could tell immediately that this guy was savage.
I still can't fathom why people say Joey Jordison from Slipknot is the best drummer of all time when musical geniuses like Flo Mounier are still around.
no im not forgetting about anyone, i simply used George Kollias and Pete Sandoval b/c most drummers into the death/black metal genres know who they are. Dont get me wrong though, Inferno and Frost are two amazing drummers, there just not as well known.
@TrollandDie thats the way i look at it cuz thats how i came across metal, i found slipknot and fell in love with the music immediately and progressed into a love of black metal, then thrash then death metal and now quite a bit of everything
@Steve128967 Not to be a dick or anything, but Slaves Shall Serve is 270 in the studio and he has played it as fast as 290 live. Another great example of Inferno's blasting ability is in the song Shemhamforash off of the new album, where he goes 275 in studio. and if you listen carefully throughout Behemoth's catalogue, he switches what type of blasts he does, sometimes within a song, although I'll admit that the one you described is probably his most popular.
hes good.... i remember goin to a clinic of his a while back... and i agree with blaqanal that i find that old beat up cymbal sound better :P... im getting ready to buy a new kit but debating wether i shuld get a 10 inch tom to my left or an extra floor tom to my right. and i want to get to seperate bass drums for double bass-age
Very talented drummer, it shows hes a metal drummer with technique if you look at his cymbals, the crashes are sabian hhx evolutions which are thin, it shows that you dont need z customs or rudes to get the job done if you have the technique, and I find these sound much clearer.
Joey is famous cuz hes fast and can stay fast and constant for a long ass time, Slipknot is what got me into drumming, he's not the best but he's still very good at what he does. Flo is very fast and very techincal but some people dont like the combonation.
Was that directed towards me... because I don't think I made any negative comments. I just made A comment. I have his DVD, so that says it all, how I feel about his skills.
@Lobones0066 Let's be a bit more exact. Metal is more physically difficult (speed power and endurance) and jazz is more mentally difficult (feel, dynamics, and coordination). Fair enough?
Is funny reading all the comments from people who don't want to bring themselves to admit that Flo is as good as pretty much any other drummer around today. I don't think any of the precious Jazz drummers mentioned could play what Flo plays but I bet you anything he could play what they play rather easily. Anyway this is just him messing about its not meant to be a full showcase of all his skills is it.
The most recent video is all about a real crime documentary, and it demanded 14 hours of substantial effort. I'm eager to hear your thoughts, so don't hesitate to share your positive or negative feedback. Take care!

Yeah man, the snare sounds so awesome! He is really one of the fastest guys Ive ever seen, insane!

Flo is Beast
That kit sounds awesome! Flo is out of this world.
Maybe the best blast beats I've ever heard !
He's the drummer for Cryptopsy, a Canadian brutal death metal band and one of my favourites. You'd be well advised to check them out.
i'm amazed at his use of dynamics here and you can see (a little) more facets of his drumming. excellent vid.
I second that. I've got the DVD, and the instructional and performance parts are both top notch
I liked the fast part.
everything is fast.
MUSICTEACHER2012 Yes.
One of my biggest influences, brutal, tech and versitile. great shit

far out that was fast. Good to watch someone with this kind of skill level as it gives me somthing to aspire towards
I find it weird how a band that recieves so little attention has a very legendary drummer
Dude, don't forget that Cryptopsy plays technical death metal haha
Dude that totally rocked!!!
i've saw him at a drum clinic in quebec november 6 2007 playing on a custom roland TD-20.... awesome! fkng great drummer!!
FANTASTIC DRUMSET !!!!!!!!!!!
Saw these guys with GWAR and wasn't a fan of Cryptopsy (not my genre) but I absolutely can't deny noticing that Flo is insane. Just hearing him tune his kit before the show you could tell immediately that this guy was savage.
I love the new album!
the unspoken king is a great album
Insane, uber impressive. Gotta get this DVD.
he is complete, fast and musically great.
period
I really love flo's drums on the whisper supremacy album. He's one of the metal drummers with the most jazz influence. Great job!
if you focus on the drums on cryptopsy albums, you will see just why he is the greatest
I still can't fathom why people say Joey Jordison from Slipknot is the best drummer of all time when musical geniuses like Flo Mounier are still around.
Nobody says joey was the best in the world. Joey just played his heart out
That kit sounds really nice!!
AWESOME
i noticed that too...i use a b8pro ride that in probably older than me and has had tremendous weather damage and the thing still sounds great.
no im not forgetting about anyone, i simply used George Kollias and Pete Sandoval b/c most drummers into the death/black metal genres know who they are. Dont get me wrong though, Inferno and Frost are two amazing drummers, there just not as well known.
love the drumset bro
His toms sound awesome!
thank youuu
6:17-6:21, amazing groove!
FREAKIN' BEAST!!
@TrollandDie thats the way i look at it cuz thats how i came across metal, i found slipknot and fell in love with the music immediately and progressed into a love of black metal, then thrash then death metal and now quite a bit of everything
Flo Mounier is one of the best death metal drummer of all times dude, he is fucking creative
yipiiih!
nice lights, very good sound...

I LOVE HIM!
I'm a big fan of cryptopsy!
FASTER HARDER LONGER LOUDER. YYYYYYAARRRR
great JOUUUB
AWESOME!!!!!!!!
wtf thes is the best i have ever heard
Great!!!!
The swivel (as far as my own experience as a drummer) is a technique used to keep time only. It exerts no downward force needed to use the pedal.
Spacecow Official swivle seems to help me play faster speeds :)

very awesome..
Holy shit, look at that set, it's bigger than the Sun itself.
Nasum T-shirt! +10 to awesomeness :D
2021 anyone?
awsome
I've got his autograph =) He is a great drummer!!!!
proud to be Canadian, to live in Quebec
@ultimatefighter187 This IS death metal drumming... The way Flo Mounier does it.
Hehe, after practising building up speed for up to 20 years, it's probably counter-intuitive for him to play slowly :D
hes good.... i remember goin to a clinic of his a while back... and i agree with blaqanal
that i find that old beat up cymbal sound better :P... im getting ready to buy a new kit but debating wether i shuld get a 10 inch tom to my left or an extra floor tom to my right. and i want to get to seperate bass drums for double bass-age

Flo Kicks ass!
FLO IS A GOD
0:58 Is that even legal?!
He should be arrested😂
The beat he makes on the 3:11 mark is awsome.
mounier is the best drummer ever
0:58 Fuck Great!
Dol 81103
That is inhumanity drumming.
passaggi ed esercizi velocissimi groove scontatissimo!!
@Rajatuje He goes for that more organic funk-latin sound … that's why he uses that snare. :)
The kick sounds fcking mighty!! And damnniceset an a very talented drummer!!
i wud like to think tht flo and I have a very similar soloing style-though me being slower (obviously) I think hes amazing.
OMG Flo Mournier FTW!!!!!! Crypotpsy 4 ever!
Nice job, i like it...DT43
Humour, I must add.
@zsector Well it's something that you have to slow down in your head, that's the way death metal is, you have to get used to it.
well said dude
:56-1:06 = the reason I call this man Flo MyGod
You can get his dvd from his website...I got mine on ebay from someone else.
Joey is famous cuz hes fast and can stay fast and constant for a long ass time, Slipknot is what got me into drumming, he's not the best but he's still very good at what he does. Flo is very fast and very techincal but some people dont like the combonation.

@doolb666 As I can tell from your Exodus thumbnail; one of my favourite bands. :)
He's a fucking god, dude!
agreed!
My Fears Have Become Phobias by As Blood Runs Black has the fastest double bass of all time. OF ALL TIME!!!
02:16 GENIAL!
@Lobones0066
Let's be a bit more exact. Metal is more physically difficult (speed power and endurance) and jazz is more mentally difficult (feel, dynamics, and coordination).
Fair enough?
i will do that, thanks. i'm canadian too. woot..
Nice
27 seconds to 30 seconds is almost threataning
Insane. How do I get my bass drums to sound that good
he is amazing, he learned jazz too.
Have you ever played along with some cd?... Try it!!
