There name is nyangostar there a cat
Mascots are thing in Japan, he is playing a kids concert. But the person was hired specifically as a drummer tho I don’t know if they knew to what degree
The name is Nyango Star. A portmanteau of Nyan, Japanese for the sound a cat makes, and Ringo, Japanese for Apple with the added level of Ringo Starr, drummer for the Beatles.
The viral explosion has lead to them starting their own metal band with other mascot characters named Charamel. Ever see a bassist play with oven mitts?

I have seen that 'overqualified' video no less than a dozen times, and I'm on the floor laughing every time!! What impresses me the most is that he's still in rhythm to the song, but filling every possible space with insanity - all while wearing that cumbersome cat suit! That cannot be easy - my guess he is going entirely by feel as visibility has GOT to be limited - and if that's so, then even higher props! Just imagine how good he is without the suit.

People should really look up Nyango Star more Nyango has far more skills than is shown in that video.
You don't really need to look at your kit while playing after enough practice, most drummers on a set they know could quite easily play with their eyes closed. It's a "feel" thing~

But it's always only the swarthy guys in bands that make him smile... In reality, it's a far cry from the ideal.
(It is also important to note that metal is a popular music in Japan.)

So this apple-cat tries to become famous, reach hollywood and be transformed back into a real cat. As Ringo Star was her role model, she got by the name Nyango Star and started drumming. It is a well known and cute folk lore in Japan.

From the Cross smashed Drummer vid: Honestly, we had in-ears in. Didn’t hear it. Drums are in the back, behind everyone. EVEN after I (the worship leader on acoustic) turned and saw the 'drum shield collapsed', I didn’t realize it was the cross laying on him at first. We were all in shock! What you can’t see, is that the drummer was looking at me and smiling, very confused, but smiling. He was ok

I am not ashamed to say i love anpanman.

I don't know what it is called musically around 5:54 in the reaction video but that sudden shift to an almost empty style of drumming really impresses me after all the seemingly frenetic drumming before and after.
The whole song though the drummer keeps time beautifully and still allows the main theme to be a present part of each phase.

Nyango Star is an apple cat who is like the sponsor of a region that grows apples. He is part of the metal band called Charamel. In Japan its not uncommon for this sort of thing and they go with the idea that there is no-one in the costume and its not done to ask who he is.
So basically if you are the person wearing the costume then you're technically overtaken by the spirit of the character and become its avatar on this earth, correct?
We never see the jesus take an active role in the real world... but this drummer must have been so bad he felt he had to really do something about it.

This reminds me of 'The Gorgeous Insanity of Keith Moon.'
It was an instrumental that started out with a rather simple drum solo, but the tempo progressively increased with every verse, until it got to the point where I thought my radio would self destruct. Even though Moon wasn't mic'ed up, he could still be heard screaming wildly as he experienced the brain-strain of trying to keep time toward the end of the track. It was absolute madness.
I'm unable to find ANYTHING about it online anymore. I heard it as a kid on the Dr. Demento Radio Show.

Btw, the song Nyango annihilates is the theme song to "Anpanman", who’s a Japanese kids superhero whose replaceable head made of a sweet bean bun (regularly baked by one of the other character, Uncle Jam) can be fed to hungry friends.
No, really. That’s the premise of that animation. A sweet-bean-bun-headed hero uses his delicious head to feed his friend and fight evildoers, in particular his arch nemesis Baikinman (literally Bacteriaman).
the creator, yanase takashi was drafted and sent to China by the Imperial Army and witnessed the cruelty and absurdity of war.

Just a quick summary on the story.

As I understand it, "Nyango Star" is an apple that was possessed by the ghost of a dead cat that was into heavy metal. He's the mascot for a region of Japan that is particularly known for its apple orchards. The event shown is at a city festival aimed at adults. My friend from Japan says these mascots for every city/region are pretty common and can get pretty weird. :)
I wish one of the 90' skate punk bands would hire him. Not just the person but the character as well.

the costume dude was commissioned to play at an anpan man show iirc (anpan = beancurd bun, where the beancurd is kinda like that in those chinese fish cakes and the bun is like a brittish crumpet. Anpanman is one of the most popular kids shows in japan, its kinda like spongebob for them I guess except anpan man is more of a superhero). I think it was intentional, because nyango star (the drummer in the costume) has been known to do death metal drum covers for some time.

The name of the drummer in the costume is Nao Kawakita. Nyango starr is the character. Nyan means "meow" in Japanese ... it goes along with ringo meaning apple ... so its a mix of "apple" "cat" and Ringo Starr.

from what ive learned about Nyango Starr is,,, its not one person. its sort of a charity thing in Japan. thats the best way to explain it in american or brit terms. well known drummers will don the suit and perform at these events and the suit hides their identity. its for the kids, and its fantastic
Ish, I do believe that it's just one person due to not being that varied style in the drumming.
But worth noting is the culture behind it, don't see this as person in a costume. Nyangostar itself is its own persona and referring to the person in the costume is generally thought of as quite rude.
(as opposed to ghost where they wear masks for anonymity and people find out after the fact that it was Dave Grohl that had jumped in on the drums for kicks; or the band members being kicked out of their own concert for that matter :D)
@@konzetsu6068 - Yeah pretty sure its Nao from Maximum the Hormone - there is a vid on NyangoStar's youtube channel with the undead cat/apple playing with her brother and the bassist. The big thing people miss is if you look at the vids the person in the suit is smaller than the female handlers- they are legit super petite and unless it's a Danny Devito size guy it's going to be a woman and the style fits her. I think the Maximum the Hormone vid is just her giving a nod and a wink to all the people who figured it out without ruining the illusion for those who haven't.

The mascot super saiyan drummer guy went mega viral, and recently he went on the Japanese TV show, where he got an opportunity to perform/entertain for one of the legendary Japanese classic rock band (Yoshiki, X Japan). Speaking of which, it might be quite interesting for you to check out some of X Japan's live concerts since Yoshiki was a drummer AND a pianist. There are many YT videos where he would go on an impressive drum solo and then switch seats right next for the piano solo immediately after the drum solo lol. Then back to the rest of drumline LOL
