- Lufthansa Trip Report flying from Frankfurt to Miami onboard one of the Lufthansa Boeing 747-8i on a lovely autumn morning.
Wow! What a flight... what initially looked like an absolutely standard flight over the Atlantic turned out to be the first medical diversion recorded on the channel. Once we were already cruising over the Atlantic Ocean, well into it, the crew started moving medical kits and the catering service was not performed. Later, we saw how the plane was making a 180° turn and, a few minutes later, the captain informed us that we were diverting to Lisboa due to a medical emergency. We soon saw as well how we were dumping fuel to reduce the weight to the limits to land in Lisboa.
We stayed 2h30min in Lisbon. The refueling took a lot. Probably they had to use small trucks to refuel this huge beast, and that led to the bug waiting time. Finally, we started pushback in Lisbon and started, again, our flight to Miami, now scheduled to be 8h15min. The views both on arrival and departure from Lisbon were truly amazing.
After departure from Lisbon, we turned left and started to fly over the Atlantic for the next 7 hours. Nothing special here, just water everywhere until reaching Florida. Due to the diversion to Lisbon, our flight ended in Miami already during the night, which allowed us to enjoy a really beautiful night approach.
However, when it seemed that the flight had had it all with the emergency onboard... destiny, once again, showed us why we should look out the window: just before starting the descent to Miami, we were able to watch the takeoff of a SpaceX Falcon 9 from our window!! It was spectacular and something that I'm sure I'll never see again... Just Amazing!
About the catering service, the crew first served some drinks, just after departing from Frankfurt. Then, they started the main catering service, but they only served the first rows, as the medical problem arose. In the end, we stayed more than 5 hours (+1h of boarding and little delay on departure) with only 2 glasses of drinks. It is not the crew's fault, but some water in Lisbon, for the more than 2h on the ground would have been a good option.
The main meal came just after reaching the cruise altitude on the flight from Lisbon to Miami. The typical mediocre Lufthansa catering: no options for the main course (just ravioli), a lettuce salad (the taste was with sauce), a cold bread roll, butter, and a piece of Bree cheese. The dessert was a tiny piece of artificial chocolate cake. Lufthansa has a lot to improve here, but it looks like they don't care too much about it.
All in all a really interesting flight with Lufthansa onboard the Queen of the Skies, the always amazing Boeing 747. For those that are new on the channel, you've probably only seen me criticizing Lufthansa. Those that are followers the channel for a long time know that I was a big fan of this airline. The service, even on European flights, was among the best. Now it is just a bad joke of what Lufthansa used to be; now it's just another airline that accepts to offer a very mediocre service. They've lost the crown and they don't show any sign of sadness for that.
Now it's your turn! Have you ever flown with Lufthansa? Which route? On which plane? How was the experience? What do you think about the current Lufthansa onboard service? Have you ever flown on a Boeing 747 Have you ever had an Emergency landing? Have you ever seen a space rocket from a plane?
Lots of things to talk about! Read you all in the comments!

Salut Prietene 🙋
hi what camara ore video camara did you use in the video p.s. i gave 999.999.999.999.999 likes and subscribs for all your flight videos
The fact that you captured the main engine cutoff of a falcon 9 over the Atlantic is absolutely incredible. This has got to be the coolest thing I’ve seen on RUclips in a while. Great catch
yes is was so cool!!
Test possible sur poppoook
even more incredible is you got a meal.
Agreed
The fact that you saw a rocket launch after all that happened is very improbable
Wowie Zowie what an incredible show
I love the lady that goes "Ryanair muss warten" (Ryanair must wait) just before landing in LIS ! :D
The first time in the history of the channel when this happens!
Yes, exactly! It was time already! 😅
Almost every channel
@@OnBoardHD San Francisco to Los Angeles flight
The fact that they had to dump so much fuel to save a life of a passenger is so astonishing. The airline may have suffered so much losses but their first priority was the life of the passenger
Did you expect them to fly to Miami with a corpse on board?
just an assumption, but I think these cases are well insured, that's something that happens very frequently, especially in the COVID time I heard that a lot, and Diversions and fuel dumps happen. That's human to do that, basically every airline is obligated to do so...I learnt about that in an aviation class of a Boeing engineer / instructor.
Interesting! I too was going to say what tremendous cost, probably hundreds of thousands of dollars of lost fuel plus time and late flights due to this medical emergency. I guess if it were anyone of us, we would hope the plane would do the same. But I can't help wonder if it was a genuine emergency or someone was just having a panic attack. A lot of people are like that...that's what often fills emergency rooms at hospital.
@@gregt8638 yes I agree, I hope it was a reasonable cause, and now hopefully the person is well again.
Sorry? Did you expect they’d let someone die for a few thousands dollars of fuel?
Good to read that about Portugal's Airline. Love Portugal.
My opinion too, Veronica. I was flying with TAP several times from Lisbon to Brasil.
Amazing flight. I can't praise the Lufthansa Flight Crew enough for the professionalism they demonstrated during this emergency. I would also like to praise the passengers for understanding the situation. Being able to view the Falcon 9 launch from the Cape was an added bonus and blessing.
Glad that you've enjoyed the video :)
poor passenger. must have been in a critical condition if they returned so quickly. Hope he/she is doin well now. ❤
Same I hope she is ok
An onboard medical emergency is pretty scary but I’m glad doctors were on board. They even provided an IV drip
I guess I will have to take this airline to take a 747. What a beauty!
Saw this exact plane taking off this day , was suprised a 747-8 landed in lisbon , was a pleasant suprise , first one i saw in person , beautiful
So heartwarming for the compassion of the crew to faciliate the medical emergency encountered by the passenger. God bless
What would you expect?
Standard procedure on any airline.
@@RWernsing play chess
I'm glad the pilot or FC made an announcement to explain the fuel dump, I would've been really nervous to see that without explanation!
You would think it was a huge leak.
What a flight! I had the same expericne flying from London to Dubai on BA last year. The meal service didn't startet and the the crew rushed through the aisle, it turned out the we had a medical emergency and had to divert to Rome in the middle of the night. Hope everyone got out well...
The Falcon 9 lauch is also something I always wanted to see, but from a plane.. Wow!!!
if i'm correct it was a heavy, but maybe they launched 9 and I didnt realize dk
It’s so beautiful to see the crowded airports again with every gate in use
i disagree, was flying a lot during covid and it was beautiful, airport was empty, no wait at check in and security, no people running over each other, empty planes etc. truly a much better travel experience, i miss it
@@angb8182 yeah I know what you mean but for a viewer It’s better and for aviation
It looks great.
@@spectacularflying3905 For sure. Having so many moving parts, it's amazing
Goes to show that humanity and safety comes before all else. That fuel dump was very expensive, but well worth it to not risk losing the life of a passenger. An airline with the esteem of Lufthansa should really update that tier of onboard service and food options. To Germany, I would fly Lufthansa mainly because they have a superb safety record, and some of the most highly skilled and experienced pilots in the sky.
Your videos are absolutely World class, the fact that no words are spoken and yet you made the videos so immersive just thru words is brilliant. Hats off to you! Well Done!
Lufthansa had been for many decades a worldwide standard of quality and service. Its sad to see in the video how in a flight so long the food quality is so standard. The experience of seeing the rocket launch from the plane is a lifetime experience.
Bienvenidos a Miami! Land of Muchos Mojares caliante!
Lufthansa grew is awesome. They are very friendly
beautiful emergency landing in Lisbon!
beautiful Boeing 747 8 Intercontinental
thank you. What a flight. Hope the sick passenger is well again.
I hope so!! 💪💪
That was awesome to see the rocket, and you're right it isn't something you see everyday especially at that altitude. So even though you had that emergency stop and the food service wasn't the best. The rocket was well worth it.
Landing in Lisbon is always beautiful . Those beaches before Landing look amazing. Nice filmed, congratulations.
It is nice to know that Lufthansa can have an emergency landing if there is a passenger in need! It could be you or me!
Medical emergency (hope the passenger is okay), Space X launch, Boeing 747-8. What more can you ask for? Wonderful trip report. Keep bringing more.
WOW that was an Incredible and truly crazy flight you had with Lufthansa with a passenger being ill and seeing a space rocket must've been the first for you if you weren't diverted to Lisbon then none of this wouldn't had happen the crew handled this really well by giving you good information when it is time to go again in the queen of the B747-8i take care buddy!!
It’s incredible because if you didn’t had this emergency, you wouldn’t see the rocket
B747 forever it’s the Queen still 😊
Fascinating! I flown on many Lufthansa 747s, but only the -400, not the -8i. They were always beautifully maintained by Lufthansa, and we’d zip past the slower planes on the Atlantic route. Oh, c’mon, the 747 is beautiful; the A-380 is a technical marvel, but also the ugliest commercial jet in the sky.
I haven’t been to Lisbon since 1971; I can’t even imagine how much it has changed.
Wow. Amazing Report. The shadow of the plane while taking off from Lisbon and flying over the buildings was truly breathtaking. Just shows how huge the 747-8 is.
This FR had everything you can possible expect.
I flew this exact same plane in September 2014. GRU-FRA.
2023 will be the year!...remember...and what a piece of landing in Lisbon!
Good quality video.
The rocket views was amazing, it's a rarity.
Thanks a lot!
It was a rally crazy flight! full of unexpected things! :D

❤ I salute to Lufthansa Airlines to safe a human life, this really a heart touching video really I appreciate the Airlines.
I've flown both the 747 and the A380. I prefer the 747...absolutely! She's the Queen Of The Skies and always will be.
i loved it you just simply nailed it with an emergency landing nice thanks for this trip have a nice weekend and a nice week enjoy miami see you next saturday
Thanks so much mate!!
It was a really unexpected amazing flight :)
How lucky do you have to be to see a SpaceX launch from an airplane. Thank you, for the Video.
What a adventure in first person! For minutes I didn’t film your landing at Lisbon Airport. Seeing a Boeing747 from Lufthansa there is a dream! By the way, the runway number is 02, they changed in May. All the best ✈️✨
Yea agree the food was a dissapointment and the snack bar should have been stocked since they knew they had such a small dinner service, 1 option...WOW that is sad for Lufthansa. but the 747-8 looked amazing and what an amazing thing to see that Rocket. Thanks for sharing
That's what you only might experience when flying so regularly - unbelievable amount of special ocurences!! Amazing report, keep up the work
Miami looks so pretty above at sunset with clouds!
@@chadhart8486 it’s better above it then in it. In it you risk a hit and run and the heaviest traffic ever. I swear.
You did an amazing report, showed what we needed to see without showing the passenger. As always fantastic.
Thanks so much :))
THAT must have been an incredibly memorable experience!
when I tell you that I KNEW the pilots just wanted the plane on the ground as soon as possible. that hard landing lol. great flight, amazing work from Lufthansa. amazing work from you for this amazing video.
Boeing 747 8i nhìn ngoài đời trông vừa to, rộng, dài và hoàng tráng quá đi
this food looks really good to me compared to what they serve on flights within the US
I was in Florida this summer and i visited a Cape Canaveral and i saw a taking off rocket, amazing experience
Wow this flight had 2 major surprises!
I followed this flight in FR24. It´s not everyday we get a B748 here in Lisbon
Haha true 😅
@@OnBoardHD By the way, runways in Lisbon have changed, now they are 02/20
Reporte muy interesante , Sigan de esta forma. Felicitaciones
Saludos
What a riveting video! The Lisbon diversion seemed effortless and here's hoping the ill passenger made a full recovery.
Awesome! I have first flown onboard this beautiful bird last month from São Paulo to Frankfurt, but my flight wasn’t as eventful as this one! 😅
Really nice video once again and an amazing job by Lufthansa to get that person help so quickly, hopefully that person made a full recovery.
Thank for this vlog. I’m hoping the passenger is recovering. Thanks for the whole LH crews and the medical individual. Safe travels. Ciao.
What a beauty! I need to board a 747 before they're gone 😓 Lisboa looks amazing!
Thanks so much!!
They'll still be around for the next 8-10 years with LH, at least.
ooohhh, this is exciting!!!😄
This might be the best airplane trip in history!
Thanks so much! That's maybe too much, but thanks!!
Really glad you liked it so much :))
Impresionante. Excelente video.
Nice report.
Thanks Cor! :)
Thank you for a complete vlog. I’m impressed there was an IV on board. Great vlog!
That beast takes up lots of fuel, monster😂😂😂
Laporan penerbangan yang keren. Alami 2 kejadian, mendarat darurat dan melihat roket luar angkasa meluncur.
What a great adventure!👍
Awesome I hope that person is ok and recover well , lots of information great thanks for sharing awesome viewing
Thank you for sharing this flight experience, know we really now how an airline operates during an unexpected medical emergency. Great work from the flight crew and good explanations. 👍👍 Keep it up my friend!!
Have flown Lufthansa since 1968, and have ALWAYS felt very safe. Have flown FRA-MIA many times (both 747, 748 and 380) and have used US airlines, which are not on the same level of perception / expectation, reality; admittedly they may offer better fares. Today it is hard to beat the LH Group on the MIA run.
Re catering in economy. If someone expects better / gourmet dining, then you will have to pay a higher fare. But that is economics.
Yeah the food was absolutely fine. It seems reasonable healthy and I assume that there was other options too but they were already out since he was sitting quite far in the back.
Very hard landing in Lisbon.
Truly loved your video. The camera quality was great and the choices you made of what to video also great, from take-offs/landings (including the extras) to your choices outside the window... amazing cloud shots. I have to save this video forever because of that SpaceX capture. I wonder if any other flights caught this on video. Seriously, Nice job!
Really good video, especially the rare space x launch
Thanks so much!
I created big expectations for this video... but I guess they were met! hehe :D
@@OnBoardHD thanks for your hard work boss, can't wait to any asia reports 😊👍
Fantastic video, Beautiful views. What camera did you use?
What a flight !!! Spare a thought for the sleeping passengers who missed all that 😀
Awesome flight ✈️🙂
Amazing moment when i see falcon 9 from SpaceX
My heart bit faster 😉
Ecelente pilotos tambien.
@@sharoncassell9358 súper bien por el piloto 👩✈️🇨🇴🙏🏻👍
Lucky you, met an safe emergency landing and a Falcon 9!
WoW, one video full of surprises : medical emergency, engine stopped working, dumping fuel and return to airport Lisbon and than seeing launching a spacex rocket. What a day aviation experience was this! Amazing. And very well and cool and relaxed ( in all this circumstances) videographed and edited. 👍👌
I loved it the medical emergency it's common all in all great superb flight the falcon 9 rocket wow 😮 what a sight 😊
Thank you for such an amazing content!
Amazing filming , Great views ! It feels like I was flying with you 😃
I’m 100% lucky to watch this video what a flight 😆
wow very rare moment first the emergency landing and second the falcon 9 of space x, very rare
Beautiful video as always. Its so lucky of you to experience both the events on the same flight. Hope your channel grows bigger and the number of subscribers increase
28:24 What a sunset!☀️
Super Wow 👌
I told in the previous weeks this was going to be smth reallt crazy! 😅
What a crazy flight! I hope that person is OK =)
I hope so as well...
Glad that you've enjoyed the flight! :))
Very interesting flight,I hope the passenger was ok,you were very lucky seeing the space rocket, but that in flight service needs a major upgrade,it was disgusting for an airline company that big
Gracias.
A nice scenic flight via Portugal. This is one of the best aviation videos i have seen on RUclips. Really surprised about the food, or lack of, given to you. A friend of mine told me years ago never board lufthansa hungry. A space x falcon, you are very lucky.
