      My son is a fresh. He is BIC & Physics Major. What is the Avg amount of homework a freshman does each week?

    • @sophiecope4170
      @sophiecope4170  4 года назад

      It very much depends on the number of hours you are taking, personal study habits/work ethic, extracurricular commitment, etc., so I don't think there is one accurate average amount. A general rule is that you should study for two hours for every one hour you spend in class, but I found this to be an overstatement in my freshman year. Best of luck for your son next year!

    • @sophiecope4170

      Hi!
      I used Baylor's own application portal (not the Common App which I REGRET -- definitely use the Common App and save yourself the extra work!)
      In my Baylor-specific short answer I emphasized what made Baylor unlike any other college in my college search. For me, that was the University Scholars program, so I wrote about my experience with and interest in the humanities beforehand and how Baylor provided a *unique* educational environment that was suited to my own ambitions. If I could offer any advice it would be this: show your reader that Baylor is the best place for you! Establish your interest in the essay and then use specific examples like a major or program to bolster your argument.
      I hope this helps! If you have any other questions just let me know :)

    I’m and in coming freshmen at Baylor this fall SIC’EM!! I am double majoring in Art History and Archeological Anthropology both concentrated in the Classics and will be in both the BIC and the Honors Program. Any tips, tricks, or advice?? I want to make sure I optimize all of my resources and really get involved but I also do not want to overcommit and need to maintain a balanced schedule.

    • @sophiecope4170
      @sophiecope4170  4 года назад +2

      Aaaah your concentrations are the absolute best! BIC 'em bears, that's such an amazing program.
      As for advice: Get to know your professors, because not only are they amazing knowledgable people, but they can also help you with rec letters, etc. One of my fall semester profs referred me to the prof I'm doing research with right now, which was literally the nicest thing ever.
      Speaking of research, if that's something you're interested in, go for it! I'd advise checking out the Office for Engaged Learning (www.baylor.edu/engagedlearning/) for research opportunities, scholarship/internship lists, and summer study programs.
      Definitely check out clubs or organizations, both academic and just for fun! Late Night is the best way to see all of these groups, but keep an eye out for things like service opportunities or other clubs which will often be posted in your academic buildings. Reaching out to other students in your major helps too.
      If you have any more questions, just let me know! :)

    I’m going to baylor in the fall and I am trying to pick a meal plan. Which would you recommend. I am also vegan and a bit concerned about the options on campus. Any advice/info would be really appreciated!

    • @sophiecope4170
      @sophiecope4170  4 года назад

      If you're a freshman (and especially if you don't have a car) I'd recommend the seven day meal plan. It's very convenient to not worry about finding meals on the weekends and just hopping over to Penland for a bite.
      Every dining hall has a vegetarian section and I believe Penland always has a vegan section. There are designated options! Also, the larger dining halls have a lot of variety, so I'm sure you'll be able to find something for every meal.
      With that being said, I'm sure that dining is going to look really different next semester. This is just from my personal (non-COVID) dining experience :)

    The bots have attacked haha! Anyways, as a rising junior, (hope it’s ok that it’s not college based) in the first week of school I am supposed to take a placement test for AP Physics. Is there anything I can do to prepare for that and be ahead of the game? If I do well enough, I can place out of some classes and get extra college credits. Let me know if you have any resources/info that you can point out to me. Thanks Sophie! 😁

    • @sophiecope4170
      @sophiecope4170  4 года назад +1

      For sure! I would re-familiarize yourself with your calculator and its functions (assuming you're able to use one), because that will save you a LOT of time. Physics is super formula-based, so if you take a few minutes to know what the variables mean (v for velocity, etc.) then that will help too. AP Physics is a weird test because it's SO hard, so they make the curve very generous. I think around 50-65% correct gets you a five.
      With all that in mind, just try your best and keep a cool head about it! I'm sure you'll do great, and remember, this is the beginning of the year and you have a lot of exciting new information to learn. I'm rooting for you! :)

    • @brettkot5309
      @brettkot5309 4 года назад

      Sophie Cope Thank youuuu! Are those calculator tricks in your video on calculators or will I need to look those up? Also, this year I’m already taking 3 AP classes. (Physics w. Lab 3/6 days, Comp Sci A, and Lang) Is it worth it to bump up from my normal World Cultures class to take AP World? I’ve always been pretty good at History and memorizing facts so I’m leaning towards bumping up but I’d like to hear your input! Thanks so much Sophie!

    • @sophiecope4170
      @sophiecope4170  4 года назад

      AP World is a little different now because they changed the curriculum to cover a shorter time period, so our experiences won't exactly be 1:1, but I really liked AP World and found it wasn't too bad! I'm a huge history fan and the memorization part was definitely manageable. If you're feeling good about it, I'd say go for it!

    What would you say is the average class size at Baylor?

    • @sophiecope4170
      @sophiecope4170  3 года назад

      It depends on the classes you're in! I'm pretty sure the average class size is less than 20 for the university at large, but the vast majority of my classes have been even smaller. However, intro pre-med classes are a good bit larger... It just depends on the level of the class and the subject!

    Hey so it’s AP score day and in my sophomore year I took two AP classes, AP CSP and AP Gov. I passed CSP with a 4 but I only got a 2 on Gov. :( yeah I’m not a genius like you are sadly, donate me some of ur brain plz lol! However, I took duel enrollment with a local community college (CCAC) and I got a 94 as a final grade in Gov. Does that mean I get the credit anyway or is there something else that happens? Thanks!

    • @sophiecope4170
      @sophiecope4170  4 года назад

      Aww you're sweet but I'm definitely not a genius! :)
      Colleges grant credit for AP or community college classes, but the classes that AP/cc classes "replace" might be different. Whatever college you plan on going to should have a website that tells you what credits transfer from community college to the university you matriculate to. This is called "course equivalency" or "credit transfer," you can see an example of Baylor site here: www.baylor.edu/registrar/index.php?id=86538. If you passed the government class in community college, then you should definitely be able to take it as a transfer credit for your university.
      Hope this helps! If you have any other questions just let me know!

      Sophie Cope so is it worth it to self study and retake the test again next year? I felt so good about the information and even thought I got at least a four on the AP test. It’s a HUGE problem having one or two questions determine how much you took away from the whole year. I’m so angry lol. I appealed the score to my gov teacher and hopefully it can get bumped up a bit but if it can’t is it worth it for me to take that test? My grade shows I know the material decently well

    • @brettkot5309
      @brettkot5309 4 года назад

      Sophie Cope and yea you definitely are a genius cmon! It’s ok to not be humble. You took so many APs and passed them all and you got a great SAT and ACT score. You seem to also have a social life and time to relax too! You got free college (which is ultimately my goal, it would really help me out. You don’t see many sixteen year olds being like this) so you should be very proud of yourself! You’re very talented and definitely a genius!
