      You'll be just fine! About time I finish my contract in the military I'll be starting my Master's at the age of 37! It is what is. I'm on my own time-line. I had to make sure that I truly wanted to get my Master's, I wanted to learn a trade, and I wanted to pay off my debt and get my Master's paid for so I joined the military at age 30. 😄

    Hello! Thank you for making this video - it's really nice to see a student's perspective on Baylor.
    Personally, I am an incoming college freshman and Baylor is my top choice. As someone who is not Christian, it does scare me a bit to attend because I do not want to be excluded.
    Do you think religion is a big aspect in attending Baylor? I do not mind that, but I just do not want to be left out from things because of my religion.

    • @sophiecope4170
      @sophiecope4170  5 месяцев назад

      Good question! When it comes to coursework, there are two classes (Christian Scriptures and Christian Heritage) that you will have to take to complete your degree. They are taught from a historical perspective and are not "preachy." All students also have to participate in Chapel, which happens a few times a week. These typically feature a lecture/motivational type speech (and to be completely honest, no one really pays attention!) Even the Christian students just grit their teeth and push through it.
      So while there will be more Christian students at Baylor then your average state school, you will not be excluded for not being a Christian and you will not miss out on university culture! There is so much more to Baylor than its religious affiliation and the student body brings in many valuable and critical perspectives. I hope this helps!

    I think the religion classes are well done at Baylor and more schools should require it provided it's taught from an academic perspective and not spiritual. Though I'd like to see Baylor add some additional courses on world religions. Kids comes to college not really understanding their own religion and definitely don't understand other religions.
    If you're super evangelical and expecting Baylor religion courses to be a spiritual journey, you'll be disappointed. When I was at Baylor, the courses were Old Testament Survey and New Testament Survey. Some of the toughest classes I've ever had. No praying will get you through them. You have to put in some serious study to do well. And you end up surprised at what is actually in your bible that your parents and preachers never told you about.
    Don't expect those courses to reinforce your faith. Or disuade it. Like Sophie said, they're approached purely from a dispassionate, academic position.

    Hi Sophie,
    I know you iterated this in the video but is there any way that a person with a different religious background can skip of the religious classes and chapels that everyone has to do?
    Also what is the difference between Honours College and I guess regular Baylor university?
    I hope I can hear back from you soon.
    Thank you!

    • @sophiecope4170
      @sophiecope4170  Год назад

      Great question! To my knowledge, all Baylor students are required to take the religion classes - the only way to get around it is to participate in the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core (BIC), which has a more international/diverse perspective. However, do NOT just take BIC to avoid the religion classes, because a) there is a lot of additional coursework and b) if you switch out of BIC you'll just have to take the required religion classes anyways. The religion classes are taught from a historical/academic perspective, so they're not preachy. Let me know if you have any other questions about them!
      Basically, the HC is a combination of four majors and programs that provide more academic rigor than your regular Baylor classes. They're each very different so I recommend looking into them individually.

    Somehow I got a 1390 SAT with a 760 math which I’m very pleased about... that goes way better then my 25 ACT🤮, do all colleges accept superscores? What are the best things to do to improve reading/English besides practice tests, so maybe I could push that superscores into the 14-1500s?! Thanks! I’m definitely pleased right now

    • @sophiecope4170
      @sophiecope4170  3 года назад

      Congratulations! It really depends on the school for superscores -- most of the universities I applied to didn't superscore, but with COVID standardized testing regulations are all over the place. One thing I'd recommend for English is learning the *type* of questions that are asked. Some will simply ask you what a word means in context, some will ask you if an insertion to an essay is appropriate, etc. Once you know these types of questions well, you won't have to think as hard when you encounter them -- no surprises! Hope this helps :)

    Hey! Thanks for your video! I've been accepted to Baylor, and I'm interested in doing their Honors Program but would be attending on an ROTC scholarship and I wasn't sure what the time requirements would look like... So basically my question is how rigorous is the Honors Program (and would you recommend choosing University Scholars, Great Texts or Baylor Interdisciplinary Core instead)?

    • @sophiecope4170
      @sophiecope4170  6 месяцев назад

      Good question! The Honors Program is really what you make of it - you'll have to take a few lower-level Honors classes, but you can also do book/film club to pass those requirements. You will have to complete a thesis in the HP, which can be pretty time-consuming in your junior and senior years. The BIC replaces some of your core classes, but the replaced classes definitely emphasize reading/writing more than the regular core classes would (and thus take more time). USchol is like the HP in that you have to do a thesis, but it gives you more flexibility in your coursework. You really have to know what you want to do in USchol because there is not a "guideline" or degree plan to follow, so it's not for everyone.
      All things considered, I think the Honors Program is a great bet for everyone because it can be combined with any major and still allows you to have the support of a traditional major's degree plan. Let me know if you have any other questions! Always happy to help :)
