I have never commented on you-tube. Ever. This is my first time. The honesty in this video evokes a response. I DO hope the truth lives. I live in the United States. My father and grandparents migrated from India to Pakistan. One grandfather had close ties with Bangladesh [pre 1971] and an aunt was born in Dhaka. My grandfather was a member of the Indian Civil Service and migrated to Pakistan in the 50s. I grew up in Pakistan labelled 'urdu speaking' and migrated out as soon as I could because i was pretty fed -up in Pakistan and rarely ever look back 20 years on. I studied with many Pakistanis over the years whose families were 'military ' families. Most of them had green cards and currently reside and thrive in the United States. These same families while enjoying the fruits of democracy here nevertheless appeared to support Musharraf during his martial law. The truth as told here is that there is no true animosity between people of the sub-continent. Pakistan's military unfortunately has to keep the kashmir issue and the 'other-ness' of the Indian narrative alive to remain relevant. I agree with Faisal that somebody in Pakistan should run a list of ALL the overseas pakistani military families. Its also time to shrink the influence of religion and the brainwashing that goes on. Pakistan has the hardest working people and they are honest. It would be a shame if we allow military and religion to hijack the fate of millions. If India had to take over Pakistan they could have easily walked over in 1971. They did NOT. South and Central Asia as a region should start to blur its boundaries and go the route of the european union. My grandfather during Ayub Khan's era had spoken and written about envisioning a common south asian currency [ including afghanistan]. We really do need to come together for the betterment of our people and the millions of Afghans who have made pakistan home since the 70s. We need to drop fear mongering by military and religious outfits like a dead weight and move on. Bring land and tax reforms and Pakistan will become unbeatable. Its people and its land are gifted. Open up the county to foreign influences. Let ideas and culture flow. Come into the 21st century and put the army back in the barracks for good.

Farah, your good intentions and prescriptions cannot be implemented in Pakistan which is a highly radicalised society over which the shadow of an oversized military looms. The very raison d'etre of the concept of Pakistan was enmity with Hindus. Islamist radicalism was the seed from which the thorny tree of Pakistan emerged. It probably is too late to turn back.

    • @farahsalahuddin
      @farahsalahuddin Год назад +16

It’s not late. On the contrary change is already afoot in Pakistan. There is a vibrant secular stream rising up even from amongst the military own ranks finally. Pakistan has made big strides despite being an infant on ventilators since 1947. I think the new generations are waking up to the realization that the job of the military is done. Pakistan is now too big to fail and by deepening its US alliance from military to economic priorities can hopefully come out from under military shadows. Still a tricky rope to walk given that’s Pakistan historically is also close to china. Pakistan’s future will become a reflection of how well the super powers of the 21 st century ( United States and china) care for its smaller sacrificial Allies.

    • @PS-ej2xn

@@farahsalahuddin A true democracy will never work in a country with religious extremist parties like TLP, JUI, PTI. If you want to enforce secularism. It needs to be done through a hardline Kemal Ataturk way. Otherwise pakistan will keep on destroying itself in the name of democracy. Musharraf literally saved Pakistan from Islamization by making it clear that Taliban is the enemy and by removing Zia's draconian laws which no political parties dare to do. Pakistan will not be fixed by democracy. It needs a secular autocrat like Ataturk otherwise TLP will continue to grow.

Hindus could have easily asked for a Hindu rastra when country divided on the basis of religion as they were not the ones to ask for the division based on religion.. but they chose secularism becoz it's the nature of religion ..becoz hindus believes in all. Brilliant!!💯 Pakistani as a nation are very sensitive to critique and critical analysis of history. Which is not the right way to develop an understanding of historical events. We as a nation runs away from making tough decisions as making Reforms whether in Judiciary, Military, Burocracy, Police, Land, Economic or on Human Rights which is necessary for any nation to develop, perform & compete with the nations of it time. This is the truth that every person in any institution must have a say in decision making and it should not be controlled by one man only as the complete power has the chances to be misused & abused. Nehru was the most intelligent man to make reforms right after Independence which put India on the right track of democracy which strengthen it's institutions as well as made them accountable if anyone supercedes the laws!

Imagine that you had a dispute with someone and that person is saying all the time that you are not interested in solutions. When you go to talk to that person to fix disputes, he takes out a gun and starts shooting you. After that there was an impression that Pakistan is not really a sensible country worth wasting time. Then 2008 Mumbai attacks, which were basically a war-like attack, was the end of it all.

Amazing conversation. Taimur and Faisal are two voices of sanity and logic.
With regards to Pakistan, I am now convinced that literally everything we were taught in school was a lie. Real history is learned through independent research and analysis. Pakistan's foundation was based on hatred of hindus and Faisal explains this in good detail using the "exceptionalism" attitude of the messiah seeking muslim community.
Past is prologue and I hope that in the future, Pakistan can learn the mistakes made that brought the entire nation on the brink of collapse in today's day and age.

    1. Excellent narration Faisal. Clarity of thought & underlying principles .. chronology of events & their contexts .. & outcomes .. woven into 'matter of fact' narration .. Extremely engaging & informative.
    2. 'Strong Man legacy' .. is inherited from 'commandments' based Islam. Islam has no legacy of discussion, debate & gives no value to opinion.. thus inherently limited in scope & obviously undemocratic. So, Pakistan is no exception to being undemocratic .. none of the Islamic countries is.
India's constitution may be western styled .. but democracy is inherently & civilisationally Hindu. There are no commandments in Hindu philosophy .. everything is debated, discussed & always open to exploration. Thus India, even after being the most socially vulnerable country in the world .. not just remains a thriving democracy, but also finds a release valve to some of its frustrations through it.
Only Muslims in India & those who formed Islamic pakistan had & have a problem .. coz they are inherently unfit for democracy .. Any democracy, not just Indian, but everywhere through the world , even their own democracy.
    3. While the discussion was mainly an overview of weak foundation of Pakistan & it's u.healthy growth, the important chapter of becoming a terror manufacturer & exporter .. to India & the world .. has been ignored. In fact, the last 40 years of Pakistan's existence are nothing but a cancerous existence of terror.
    4. Appreciation from India.

I agree to his point of view that strong men also made mistakes but , we are ignorant of these mistakes due to our lack of knowledge. No doubt he is a straight forward and a brave person , bcz unveiling such bitter facts in this society is very hard nowadays !!!

It is NOT that Jinna did not have any plan for Pakistan after 1947. He was hired by Nawabs/Zamindars and British to continue the status of British Colony which was beneficial to British and Elite Nawabs/Zamindars. Today's Pakistan is the proof. Poor Pakistanis who died in all the wars against India, Taliban etc will never understand this simple truth

The fact is that after 1857, it was more than clear to the British that the Hindus and Muslims should be made opponents. British also tried to create rift between Hindus and Sikhs through MacAuliff as well as between north and south Indian Hindus as Aryans and Dravidians through the writings of Caudwell. Muslims right from the beginning were far behind Hindus in every sense, but specially in education and were far more conservative than Hindus. Muslims were led entirely by ashrafia as the poorer Muslim masses had no voice and totally controlled by Mullahs. Separate electorate was the instrument which very well divided Hindus and Muslims. However, creation of Pakistan caused great harm and damage to Muslims of the subcontinent, but benefited Hindus, though emotionally Hindus were opposed to the creation of Pakistan. Imagine an Akhand Bharat with around 35 percent Muslim population ! And Pakistan suffered as the most educated and prosperous Hindus and Sikhs left from its territory for India.
