John Williams truly is the world's greatest living composer. He deserves another Oscar, or definitely a lifetime achievement Oscar.
He got an AFI award
Ar rahman be like:
Am I a joke to you?
Both
Thomas Newman ❤️
Amen to that
They should invent the Super Oscar to honor him...
I laughed and then thought abt it. I couldn't agree more. This guy deserves it.
Dizzy Blu He indeed deserves it, the new soundtrack for Star Wars Episode VII, is amazing (better than the movie itself)!
They should call it the Williams, and give it to composers of his caliber (if there ever will be any) in the future:P
@@Jiierf I like that idea xD
Or let’s be honest and just rename the Oscar…. ‘And the John Williams Best Original Score Oscar goes to…..’ don’t think you would have 1 person in the world complain. Really does deserve something beyond accolades and the usual honors… Absolute genius at what he does… special talent..👏👏👏
look at his modesty... can anyone be so great and yet be so modest... and the answer is yes... and its mr. john williams.
“I know, but they are all dead."
He often tells this story, and it was a great moment, but I enjoy another story even more:
In one interview Williams said that when trying to conduct the music for the final scenes of E.T., Spielberg came out and said: "I'm gonna take the film off the screen. Just play the music and I will edit the film to that".
Very unusual, but they did it that way and it certainly paid off.
I really can't think of any better film composer
Ennio Morricone?
+Bogdan Konchyts I guess they're both
good but not as good
Maurice Jarre!
Howard Shore is equally as good. Both greats.
john williams changed my life!I was a kid when i first heard the starwars theme and immediately i knew what will i do for the rest of my life.I became a composer thanks to john williams.God bless him!!!
hey! I want to become a composer too. do you have any advice? what does it take to make it in the industry? What was your first instrument?
+Arturo Gonzalez I"m a pianist. Now if you want to be a composer you have to study and be original.Create your own style no matter if some like it or others don"t.Support it with all your strength and that"s what makes you special.Sooner or later someone will discover you.Just believe in yourself and that"s all it takes!
+George Euaggelou thank you so much!
Howly shit I compose music as well and I understand you 100%. People doesn't like your style and nobody cares but you are moving on because you believe you can join them once. I'm glad that I was very young when I knew I will be a composer and John Williams changed my life as well. Now I am working at my first little symphony in 3 movements (I am now at the 3th movement and the entire piece has a 14 minutes length) and I love to do it and I am glad that there are people who have the same story. You may enjoy Stravinky's Sacre du printemps and The Planets suite as well you should listen to those pieces once.
Remon my friend i"m glad to hear you"re dealing with the same story.Don"t doubt for even a second that one day you will succeed your goal whatever that is remember where there is a will there is always a way and fuck the rest.Do what you really want, have passion and you"ll see what is going to happen sooner or later.Put all yor energy to this and nothing can go wrong.Good luck with your symphony which i"m sure is gonna be great.I"d love to hear it.And by the way the duration is excellent.Audiences these days are bored of big time scores.
John Williams is a living legend. The Mozart of our time. A genius.I get emotional when his music plays. Together with best friend Steven Spielberg for the cinema vision, he is the god of cinema music.
He’s definitely *not* Mozart. He’s a great *film composer* … But the majority of his themes are copy-pasted from older composers. He then builds off of them but the main themes are found in music of other composers. Mozart *breathed* music. John is definitely my favorite film composer but There’s no comparison to Mozart 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
He's a fantastic composer. So wonderfully adept. Such brilliant melodic counterpoint. He'll be loved for as long as we can hear.
I am literally going to lose the will to live when he dies. :'-(
+Natalie Ardner I don't like to think about that. :-(
Don't despair. His music will live on forever even after he dies, but I hope he lives to be past 100!
Natalie Ardner Such a weird thing to say.
You.. You're a special one aren't you?
Not when, but if.
he's a god, he can't die
Shindlers list main theme touches my soul every time.
Live long Mr Williams!
Truly the best. As a composer myself, John Williams is and always be my ultimate hero!
"Composer" as he's a random composer
Congrats to John Williams.
Goddamn.

That Spielberg answer tho...Supported his friend to the max!
John Williams is the best composer. He makes the best music I've ever heard, and Star Wars especially contains the best music I've heard all around.
SKdaGamer we remember with music. Without films John's music would be devaluated. We would never know him. His music. None. His music would be like many. You see film and music is a must, a connection is made. It gives you a feeling. You then hear the muaic and remembwr and feel the feeling. No music no movie. No movie no music. He great. But his music is known and loved becaused he is talented but also because of the movies. But without music there would be no movie... Great man too
I love this man and his incredible compositions. God bless you, Maestro!
Video title: "Composer" ?
John Williams is (in my opinion) the greatest composer in human history, surpassing even Mozart, Beethoven and Bach.
Niels Lauridsen He's good but not superior to the Father of Music bach and Legendary Mozart.
Maybe but he has obviously more known pieces than Bach or Mozart together. The average people (no critism) doesn't even know the first invention or the third variation in the Goldberg Variations.
Oliver That's because they are popular today, we should wait another hundred years or so and see if they transpire (I think they will).
I also have to ask if you've heard John Williams' own Symphony or his Concerto for Horn.
It's kind of like saying Michio Kaku is better than Sir Isaac Newton just for being able to contribute to String Theory whereas without Newton there would be no String Theory. Same in Music, Williams is phenomenal and will go down amongst the greatest, but without Prokofiev, Gershwin, Shostakovich, or Schoenberg, there would be no Williams (Let alone Mahler, Wagner, Liszt, Strauss, Schubert, Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, Handel, Bach, Bach, Bach.... and Bach... Vivaldi, Strozzi, Daddy Mozart, Monteverdi, and more)
Mozart's film scores were rather weak. So yes, John Williams is a better composer.
I'm very curius what kind of composers there wil be over 50 years in the movie world. I really miss the movie music of composers like Steiner, Herrmann, Goldsmith, Korngold, Rózsa, A. Newman and Tiomkin but over 50 years will Williams, Zimmer's and Morricone's music be almost forgotten (Theme's like Star wars and Darth Vader will be famous in future because there are new movies of them and They are such momorable as Herrmann's shower scene)
This man is GOLD!
I just attended the John Williams concert again at the Hollywood Bowl. 90 years old, still conducting. Unbelievable. I'm so honored to have my clip included in a special story about him here in this video. A living legend.
his advice actually makes a lot of sense, namely to just take one day at a time
John Williams- all you need is to hum 3-4 bars, and people instantly know which film.
Why the first bang of the main theme is enough for people to guess it is Star Wars
Four words: Duel of the Fates
That is the toughest of all music pieces
john Williams gave the same advice as yoda so the force is strong with him
I can't believe how humble he is! Saying 'you need a better composer' when he was already so iconic. I didn't even realize he did Harry Potter!
Humility personified
Why would you call him "composer" he's so much more then that
Kind of rude, right? Seems like a working title.
I am a HUGE fan of all of his work but the single piece that stands out to me the most is the Olympic Fanfare. Not quite sure why, but I have an emotional connection with that song. It's just so beautiful. I always start tearing up about 3 minutes in. To me, the music PERFECTLY invokes all of the emotions of achieving your life's goal (for the athletes, a gold medal). John Williams's legacy will live on for generations. Hundreds of years from now, people will be studying his work like they do Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, etc. today
Today he got his 52nd Oscar Nomination for Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker!
Well he composed my childhood
True for several generations of children, at this point.
This is the first time ever that I watch on video the man that composed the sound tracks of my life !!!!!! Thank you John Williams for giving us a piece of your soul to bring us joy and memories and thank you Steven Speilberg for trusting in him to serve his ideas as the bed music of your iconic visual dreams !!!!!!!!
May the force always be with John Williams
Greatest composer of the 20th century.
John Williams; the man, the musician, the living legend..THE KING.
I COLLECT AND LISTEN TO EVERY SINGLE THING HE HAS WRITTEN. I JUST LOVE EVERY NOTE THAT THIS MAN WRITES. HE IS THE BEST FILM COMPOSER..... EVER. HE'S ALSO NOT JUST THE GREATEST FILM COMPOSER, BUT HE'S THE WORLD'S BEST COMPOSER OF MUSIC.
Jerry Goldsmith said "music is not visual, it's emotional". In the case of Williams, it's both. His music literally conjures up images in the mind's eye of scenes it punctuated and made more exciting!
This man is simply a musical genius.
He has produced the soundtrack of my life
I have listened to his wonderful scores since I was 10 years old.
Terrified in Jaws in 1976
Amazed in Star Wars in 1977
Awed in Superman in 1979
Inspired in Raiders of the Lost Ark 1981
ET in 1982
Jurassic Park in 1993
Harry Potter Series, the list is endless.
He is simply amazing
A genius who is among the greatest composers in history
I love how he said "It's better not to keep your eye on the finish line, but focus on THIS page, what's in front of you." Enjoy the experience of the creative journey, not the destination!
GENIUS.
Him and Walt Disney are my favorite creative people ever are the most Oscar nominated.
He is amazing
The man. The myth. The legend. Greatest composer in the galaxy
John Williams you are amazing!
A true musical, wizard-level genius and such a sweet, unassuming man.
With me being a profound lover of film music im huge fan of alot of big name composers such as Craig safan,Jerry goldsmith, John barry and so on but John williams is number 1. His incredible library of scores are unbelievable and the way they've stuck with american culture is equally incredible!! His scores have been mimicked in countless movies such as Police academy 5 during the shark and Tackleberry scene they played the Jaws theme. Also it was played in the first Airplane movie and the Pink panther strikes again movie and of course his other scores have been honored in other films as well. John is the best and he is definitely one of this world's greatest gifts of enjoyment!!!
This man is an incredible genius. Music lives in him, and his contribution to both film and music is forever earth-shattering. Emotional, bold, exciting, his music is the epitome of mankind's capacity for expression through music. Hail John Williams.
Movies will never be good without John Williams. Period.
The absolute greatest
There are two kinds of immortality. There’s what may or may not happen to you after you die. But the other kind is inscribed in the world, what you leave to the world when you go, what changes you left behind. Will you have made the world a little better, a little richer, a little more beautiful than you found it? Without a doubt, John Williams will achieve this type of immortality.
Whos watching this in 2017
Legend
The Beethoven of our time.
John Williams, Ennio Morricone, Howard Shore, Nino Rota. Those are the greatest film composers that come to my mind. It's pretty hard to rank them but if I had to maybe it would be:
1. Williams
2. Morricone
3. Shore
4. Rota
Already knew before I clicked on the video it was the man John
John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Ennio Morricone.... all great
This was a wonderful treat to discover on my Birthday 🎂! In addition to the Big Scores, I have also learned to treasure the more intimate John Williams scores, such as Stanley and Iris, Jane Eyre, Angela's Ashes, and so on. John Williams can do it all. Tchaikovsky once semi-complained about the noisy part of his score that were so popular- I think shortly after he composed the 1812 Overture. And we all want to forget that the most popular piece Beethoven composed While He Was Still Alive was "Wellington's Victory." But I hope Maestro Williams realizes his Big Scores full of Brass are ALSO great music. Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries has lasted a Long time. And the end of Beethoven's 5th is not music to go to sleep by. Music can be have Fortissimo Volume, Greatly Popular, and STILL be great music!
People might know this but he also composed the Olympics theme we hear every 4 years on NBC.
Williams=Genius.
he doesnt listen to music, he see it.
He deserved to win at least another 10 Oscar
Born In Floral Park Queens NYC
John Williams is an absolute musical genius! No movie scores are as powerful and memorable as his own creations!
lol "Composer"
I was mocking the people who made the video for calling him "Composer" in the title and not "John Motherfucking Williams"
And while I'm at it, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Thomas Newman, Hans Zimmer, Michael Giacchino, Alexandre Desplat, Danny Elfman, Ramin Djawadi, Ennio Morricone, Howard Shore, James Newton-Howard
Yep I definitely googled.
Chris Cross Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, Phillip Glass, Steve Reich, Missy Mazzoli, John Adams, Eric Whitacre, Howard Shore, Mark Fromm, Laura Shigihara👌👌👌
John, Paul, George, Ringo and Sophie Tucker.
He should be seen as one of the greats in my opinion. It’s too bad he’s mostly just thought about in the movie business.
Focus not on the ending
I don't see why the title isn't "John Williams is most Oscar nominated living person"? There's no need to leave his name out of it.
The Star Wars score is the best of all time 🚫🧢
lol... 30 years from now? Try 300 hundred years from now... 1000 years from now... till the end of time. I mean Star wars alone is our epochs epic. It'll be remembered as long as anything else in our history, and the music will be remembered as much as bachs or bethoveens.
never his thought on 'Schindler's list' was like that
No offer but Thomas Newman needs an bunchload of Oscar's as well
I think when Williams said to Spielberg, "You need a better composer", what he was actually saying - and both understood he meant - was a "Jewish" composer, given the subject matter of Schindler's List. Spielberg's reply makes total sense, since all the legendary (Jewish) film composers were all dead. But for anyone to suggest that "better" literally meant "better" -- well, is an insult to Williams' prodigious talent. First, it's difficult to imagine a better score for Schindler's List (This has been echoed by Itzhak Perlman, who played the violin solos on the soundtrack). Personally, I think it shows that sometimes being somewhat removed from the subject matter is a good thing. Even if, say, Bernard Herrmann or Erich Korngold were still alive and able to score the picture. I seriously doubt either could have done better.
why on earth did they not put his name in the title...
i'm truly triggered they didn't mentioned Star Wars' theme in the opening!!!
This video is titled as is nobody knows who John Williams is.
This video should've been longer
What, was putting John Williams' name in the title too much?
i really dont understand the title
What does have this non-likers to show as part of their talents?
Who wrote the title for this?
why I can't hear any sound from this video
1 57 - he fucking paraphrased Yoda an they missed it. Good job CNN
Star Wars... you mean Kings Row by Korngold, or Mars by Gustav Holst? Schindler's List... you mean Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky? Can we spell 'plagiarism'? Is there a melody in the Williams reportoire that didn't come from someone other than himself? Hmm. I sure haven't been able to find one.
If you actually compare the melodic line of ANY of the examples you mentioned, they each share 3 to 5 note slight similarities, and then divert into completely different directions. Different rhythms, different melodies. That doesn't constitute plagiarism, you fucking idiot. Influence, homage and coincidence are at work here. And if you'd ever listened to him speak at length, you'd recall his frequent description of his influences and nods to other composers. If you could compose ONE cohesive musical idea, your opinion on Williams would be worth SLIGHTLY less than nothing.
In the most of the film score that you have mentioned there are four or dove notes similari go the examples that you have mentioned and in most of It ( Star wars its a Great example) the director asked him ti do a similar melodies to that examples, than of you want something original in all the way listen ti the soundtrack of catch me of you can very beautiful. All the great composers of all the time "stole" from others composers: Mozart have Stolen melodies from Haydn, brutte stole many Melody from Puccini and from Mahler and so on. I personally think that jhon Williams its a Great films composer and its thanks ti him of now the orchestral music still Alive.
@@jwalk0713 That's what you get with people who rot their brains on this channel
Lmao, you forgot star wars in the intro...
They can afford James Earl Jones as their announcer yet not put footage from Star Wars in this segment
John Williams is most great PLAGIARIST of all time.
"Composer" ha hahaha that makes it sound like no one knows who he is bro
Evenstar by Howard Shore crushes everything John Williams has made. That’s right I’m ready
0:18 I’m sorry but this is just horrendous narrating, this makes no sense
