Farmers sell grain by the bushel. Rye is 56 lbs to the bushel. Corn is 56, wheat 60, barley 48 lbs.
56lbs is also 4 stones , 1 stone being 14 lbs
Yep
Ear corn is 70 lbs.
@@OhioBuckeye yes yet another measurement taken from the UK back when everyone thought the New Land was greener but found they had to work for it and fight the native occupants and the animals as well as nature that they did not know about
The Metric system is far easier.@cassieabhram7089
Good morning all! Off to church soon, will finish later. Y'all have a blessed day!
Awesome equipment, beautiful piece of property! You are a blessed man!
Hi Mike. Great job & video. Story: My best friend/dairy farmer of 35yrs. He & his all his life dairy farmer enjoy the harrow rake & the hard plastic seeder. His dad's metal seeder was sold to another farmer. They used filled smooth metal drum to roll thier hay seeds in further. They have a good successful results. Rye makes beautiful hay & as " green mature" to ANY field. They plant rye & after growing season/ next spring. Then earth plow it over. For a great fertilized field(s.) Especially. Past corn fields. Corn drains the field's nutrients to nothingness. They use winter rye. Sometimes. They leave it for hay for a few years. Then rotate thier fields in next spring. Oddly. They're property is overrun w/ deer. No reports of extreme deer damages. Hi Levi. Excellent chestnut harvester. 🥰🙂😉👍 I NEVER seen anything like it. They're usually hand picked. Hi dogs & Melissa. Melissa looks like she's done this before. She's a trooper. 🥰🙂😉👍❤️💜⚘️ I believe. Grinding the stumps would be a added $$$$. Plus. Your discarded stumps will be future homes for all types of wildlifes. It will take decades to stumps to decay. Especially those massive oaks. Now. I'm praying for rain for you Mike. My best friend saids: Wild cut down vines will completely rot in 5 yrs. Your buried roots will do the" same." Or. Quicker. Thanks Mike, Levi, & Melissa. Say Hi to Melissa's dad, Eva, Hunter, Tyler, & Hannah. 🥰🙂😉👍❤️💜⚘️⚘️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻☀️
Awesome story, thanks for sharing
Happy Sunday Morgans ! Yay ! What a rainy day finally here ...2nd day in a row ! We were so dry....love these grey cool days ...its so cushy ! i think we may try planting some rye up north michigan on our food plot...good times ! Love your videos and all you have to tell us Mike...and Melissa too. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Hannah ! Hey u have a fellow utuber Pat Martin ...he does barbeque...look him up ! You could easily pass for brothers ...practically twins... have a blessed evening ! 🤗
Realize a cultipacker was your desire but this is a pasture rake to disperse concentrated manure piles in a pasture setting. True 56 lbs in a bu but the tag on the bag should have stated germination and that is truly the important question. When you stated, "hit it with seed", you were not kidding! Excellent seed numbers for this application. Thanks for the videos.
Melissa with a bit of whisky throttle there at the start 😂❤
Good morning Mike! Small world! I designed and built the seed cleaner for Hadley Seed, which in turn cleaned the seed you planted. Also, like some of the other comments, 56 lbs of Rye is 1 Bushel!
Using a drag is an art to keep from overrunning areas and piling up grass in areas where you turn
The rain from Helene has been great. 4 days straight. 9-26 thru today 9-29. Hope all the planting is done.
That feeling when you overseed and after it rains almost every day for a week. The new grass is 2 inches tall already. Tall fescue typically doesn’t even come up in 1 week let alone be almost 2 inches tall. And we have many atleast 4 more rain days this week. It doesn’t get any better than this for planting!
WOW it is hard to believe Mike, that you have had no rain for so long. While I live only about 1hr and 15mins SE of Pittsburg near you, I have had rain / drizzle every day for the last 8 days the ground here is very wet and my grass has grown about 6 inches over that time. I need fro a few days rain free so I can get my grass cut. Ron USCG RET
Good morning to the Morgan family … on a Sunday morning watching your channel and seeing what you guys are up to I enjoy this BIG TIME !!! Hoping MOTHER NATURE sends you some 38:37 38:37 MOISTURE 🤪… REGARDS to the Huntman … hoping that he is doing good 💕👍 … PS … i get a kick when i see Mrs. Melissa operating the quad and the Tractor … the SMILE says it all !!! ❤️😂👍👍👍 CHEERS from Québec 🇨🇦
Good Sunday morning, Morgan's and friends!! The clearing is looking great. Great job, Mike & Melissa! What a relief it must be to have the right tool for the task! Have a great day, everyone
Put the drag (an old bed spring works good) behind the seed spreader, hit it once, and be done.
Nice looking field now. Alot of work you've done. Good help as well.
When the pasture grows in I think a couple of horses would be nice. Morgans of course. Getty-up Mike.
8:30 mark. Get a paint less dent repair kit and fix that “acorn dent” easy and CHEAP!
I have the 8’ version and it is tough to move around by myself. It does come apart (1/2) but it’s still a chore. I also have the nut basket and it is amazing. I collect them for the deer. Love that power rake!!
Drag your ground with an old piece of chain link fence, seems to put the grass seed just under enough
Hey Mike. Not telling you what to do but wanted to make you aware. Have you ever seen the videos by The Woodland Steward’s channel on this Japanese Stilt Grass? They provide the diluted concentration level of glyphosate which controls this stuff without killing native stuff. May help with prevention if you choose to pursue. Thanks for all the great content.
Good morning Morgans and friends. Hope everyone has a great day. Be safe and we'll see you all down the road.....thanks.
Hey Mike I used a small piece of chain link fence to drag after seeding works great and also really levels the top soil. Don on Vancouver Island Canada.
mike you need to put your kiln down at the wood yard , you need to move your container and put the kiln in it`s place move the container to behind the wood bunker
and add another row of pinning blocks to the bunker ........... your friend in Illinois
😂😂😂😂😂😂.
The Turkeys Love To Eat The Seed!!
We usually broadcast Starter Fert To Give The Seed a Kick Start!!

😅👍👊❤️
My grandfather and father used to use a brace of mules, or hire a neighbor to run his tractor over the farm plots. Each time, they had a combination of an old railroad tie with a piece of 4" heavy wall steel pipe about 3' or 4' behind the tie. There were chains from the tie to the attachment hooked to the yoke on the mules, and a chain attached to a bolt welded into each end of the pipe with a ring on the end of the chain that allowed the pipe to freely roll as it was being drug. It was enough to knock down any clods of dirt, smooth everything out pretty well, and the pipe behind pushed the seed down enough to give it a light cover but not allow it to blow around or be picked up easily by birds or animals like a freely cast seed would do.
Very cool thanks for sharing
Melissa looked really nice on that four wheeler! Always good to have help!!
I bought a smaller drag harrow for my bx23. For some reason, pulling it is just fun. Funny, reminds me of Little League Baseball. The assistant coach would pull a homemade drag harrow behind his jeep to prep the infield. He would do this the day of the game. Round and round and round with the goal of ending the spiral at the Pitcher's Mound. Amazing what things will bring me back to my childhood.
I was just up at my farm and realized I have a cultipacker I never use anymore stored up there. I'm not sure if you purchased one yet but I'm in NW PA. It's a Field Tough 72" I bought from Northern Tool. It's about 4 years old and I've used it maybe 3 times. I've gone completely away from tilling. Just got tired of dealing with weeds and dry powdered dirt. Anyway, if you're interested let me know. $550 and it's yours. New are $1100. I can send photos.
@OutdoorsWithTheMorgans
I use kentucky 31 tall fescue w/1 app of triple 12 fertilizer on the last 7 acres i seeded and the deer never eat the seed, After it grows the deer graze on it every night. I finish mow everything and it looks great!.
Weve gotten 2" of rain in the last 24 hrs!, yaaahoooo!.
After discing my garden a few days ago, I used my 4 wheeler pulling a pallet to drag it, and it works excellent! Then I sowed winter wheat with a push along spreader like I've being doing for many years.
Just did our fields in winter rye last week. One of my favorites to get down. Grows great, cheap and easy
Morgan's. I am so happy that you can hold my attention through every video. Something for everyone. That's hard today being that most of us has, or at least myself, has ADD. Great job. Always a pleasure watching your shows.
Good morning, everyone! Prayers for all those affected by the storm 🙏
I just wanted you to know that your channel is my favorite channel. I've been watching you for years. Sleeperdude is my second favorite.
Thanks
The plot looks great. As always, great video, Mike. See ya
Thanks 👍
You got it looking great. With rain and some sun the seeds will sprout and you will have the grass coverage you wanted.+
We pull our drag harrow behind our mule on our property ..love it !
Back when i use to be able to lift a 6x6 they were at least a 1/3 the price!😮 Good work doing all that stuff your doing!!!
Wow
Hey Mike, Hadley Seed Farm is a great family owned and operated business not far from you in Hadley, Pa. I know the family pretty well and shared the video with them. Tell Hunter i said hello 👋.
Awesome! Thank you
Good Morning Morgan Family 🌞- Have a Wonderful and Blessed Sunday 🤠
Good call on the drag harrow. The food plot finished off nice.
You got lazy! With that hugh attachment on the tractor! What happened to walking? Loved it! I know, work smarter, not harder!
Thank you all for that information on the bushel.
I never knew that thank you
Of course. Thanks for watching
Mike, I am sure the drag you purchased is great, but I use a length of heavy-duty chain-length fence that is 8 feet tall and about 10 to 12 feet long and pull it around with my Polaris Ranger 900XP UTV; it works fantastic and lasts for years. I recommend bolting a 2x6 or 2x8 across the front and attaching your chain to that for pulling. attach in two places so it will balance itself out while pulling. Thanks for taking us along! J.R.
That power rake works great 👍🏻
I’ve noticed that your carpentry skills include neatness and accuracy. The interior of the cabin looks great. It’s true that keeping an eye on weather forecasts does help with planning outdoor activities. Typically the Western New York/ Pennsylvania weather reaches Northern New York/Vermont approximately 8 hours later.
U may not want to fix the dent in the hood but wanted to let you know that a dent-less repair could pull that out without having to paint the car Mike! I have seen those people work and it's amazing to see the outcome! *Just saying*
Or just leave it alone.
Cultipacker Mike, one one step that really helps new seeding
First time seeing a power rake. I like it.😊
Excellent mike & mellisa cheers 🥂 😊❤😊
Nice job on your seeding Mike, you had a nice seed bed and the harrow was an excellent idea!
Hey Mike it’s really looking good. It was good to see Levi and Melissa. Cool video 👍❤️
Thanks
Here in the UK, 112 lbs equals 1 cwt (hundredweight), therefor 56 lbs is half a cwt. Twenty cwt equals 1 ton. Thankfully we haven't gone fully metric yet.
Good morning y'all !!! Have a great Sunday, and hello from British Columbia.
It’s good to see work progressing on the cabin, we’ve been waiting to see how the cabin and shower house get end up
Good morning! I have pulled chain link with some blocks when I put down seed and it worked pretty well. I guess it works best when there is a couple of inches of loose dirt.
Hi Mike,in answer to your 56lbs question, the old imperial measurement of weight was 20 hundredweight to the ton and a hundredweight was 112 lbs so half a hundredweight was 56lbs,a manageable amount for a person to carry. Might be worth you looking up the old imperial charts at some time. Great videos thanks from South Wales UK.
Those nut pickers work excellent for picking up brass on your shooting range! I use one all of the time at the range.
Love the show!
You can use fusillade herbicide to control stilt grass. Read label instructions about other species. There are a number of pre-emergent herbicides to keep the seeds from germinating. I would also use a large yard type of propane torch to burn off the top of it multiple times during the growing season, only on a rainy day though. Burn it off so that it never goes to seed.
Great job on seed planting , it’ll be Beautiful when it comes up , enjoy your week 😃
56 lbs. is a bushel which is how seed is typically sold.
Mike, that squeak would push me over the edge!!! 😂 The dirtier it got, the more it squeeked! There has to be a pump of somekind under the hood with a belt. You never pop the hood to rinse that off. Check the hood pivots and latches.
It sounds like it's loose or dirty somewhere in the front? Even the bushings on the lift arms?? I couldn't get the parts breakdown online because I don't own one.
Looking good that power rake works awesome good job guys
Loved the leaves changing around the property Mike.
Morning Mike, my son asked me yesterday of the you tube channels I follow ,if I could meet 3 of the people of that channel. I said that's easy Mike Morgan and family, Tom Hause and family, and Josh and Erin in WV
Good job Mike and Melisa
I would add Fescue and Blue grass seed to your mix, you can add it in any time , even before your last frost in in spring to get ahead of that silt grass
I’ve never used a drag link before. Used a power rake and hit directly with seed. I never knew what it was supposed to do. 😂. Thanks Mike. I been getting rain for about the last two weeks. We had one big storm come through and the rest was drizzling
Mike,
To find your noise. Go and buy a kit called chassis ears. This kit has sensors that you can attach to different parts, then select the different channels the sensor is on to help locate the noise. They help!
Great job Mike and Melissa. That rye should turn out great if you get some water soon. Have a great rest of the weekend
Thank you
You always pick the best music great job as always love your videos❤
Thank you I appreciate that
In the UK here. 56 lbs is 1/2 cwt and 20 cwts equals 1 imperial ton.
Looks awesome mike Melissa have a good day in joy be safe
Mike and Melissa, working together on the clearing it’s going to be awesome when the winter rye comes up 😮😊❤
For covering grass seed my mate a dairy farmer towed a big square of old carpet to cover the seed. Worked well.
like your telling her you don't need to go fast HaHa, as she takes off "WIDE OPEN" and then the same on the tractor, she has a lead foot for sure LOL..
Great looking food plot!
Around where I am in Georgia my dad told me that rye grass seed is sold by the bushel or it was years ago now with everything shrinking. Have a good day.
Just my thinking about the acorns. I've noticed during droughts that oak tree really put on the acorns. I have several in my yard and during droughts my yard is literally covered with them. Wetter years not so much. Preservation of the species is what I think.
That place will be easy to heat and cool.
You have found the second reason that I don’t like a machine that doesn’t have a SEAT or a CAB w/a radio or stereo. #1. I’m about 20 years older than you so I don’t stand up to do anything hardly any more, plus I’m too old to get thrown off anything. #2. You hear too many things that a good cab and a better stereo with drown out. I always watch your videos. Hopefully Hunter continues to improve. We have a few Hunter’s in our family, good name !!
I believe that the bags are 56 lbs because this is half a british hundredweight/cwt (112 lbs). 20 cwt equals one long ton (2240 lbs).
She's a keeper!
Good morning everyone!!
Dry is right Mike😢 I looked up in my colander that the last measurable rain I got was August 30th here in Cedar Rapids, Ia. Needless to say the lawns are crispy, the corn is yellowing, just terrible
Well, it IS fall, time for corn to turn yellow.
Harvesting soybeans as fast as we can go now.
Fantastic yield. Surprising lots of folks.
The young lady running the four wheeler looks like Freedom.
Be safe!
Hard to believe but that young lady is a Granma
A cultipacker makes good seed to dirt contact for germination and I think it hides the seeds a bit better than a drag. I have been using an old 4 footer behind the utv for many years and have good success.
Great job
Nice ground work 👍
Good morning from Charlottesville Va The food plot is looking great Hope Y'all are doing well Have a great day God bless
Foliage is 2-3 weeks behind normal this year in IL/WI
Thanks for the lesson on finishing my food plots, Excellent, Your costing $$$$$$
Re: The squeak (this is from ChatGPT): Yes, other users have reported similar squeaking issues with mini skid steers, especially related to idler wheels and other track components. The squeaking often occurs due to inadequate lubrication or improper tension in the tracks and idler wheels. When there’s no load, the idler wheel may have less pressure on it, allowing more movement and causing the squeak. However, when a heavy load is applied, the added weight compresses the components, which can minimize or eliminate the noise.
Some users have found that greasing the components while the machine is under load or adjusting the track tension can help resolve the issue. It’s recommended to regularly check for proper lubrication and ensure the tracks and idlers are operating within the correct tension range to avoid premature wear.
If the issue persists, inspecting the bearings or seals for wear or damage may be necessary, as worn seals can cause metal-on-metal contact that results in noise.
Nice job Mike. Weight of rye is considered to be 56 lbs per bushel · However, not all seeds are sold by the bushel. Some are sold in 50 lb increments - 50 lbs per bag. in Texas where i live, Gulf winter rye grass is $40.00 per 50# Bag... you seem to have gotten a great price :)
Hard to wait to see the meadow plot coming in with deer everywhere. And the West Virginia Property is special is all i can say, like i have said before a Norman Rockwell Picture or Movie, i would not want to ever leave there :) The swing, Brio Stove going, paying guitar and having the time of your life there. Great Video - ❤💯🙏:)
good job!
Thanks again
God home
Great video, strong work. Excited to see the finished product on the field. I loved my harrow when we lived in Washington State. I have a new nickname for you, please done take offense. Just joshing. When I was little I was called “Mini Pearl” for two reasons. My grandmother Susie Pearl Hatfield AND because I wouldn’t let my mom take the tags off my clothes. I saw the tag on your power rake, so you are “Mini Earl”. 😁😉 (quite wet here in Tennessee, after months of no rain).
Good Sunday Morning Mike..... hope your weekend is going great....
