Your explanation of your RUclips work was so honest it was refreshing. Good work Mike, keep it up and may God bless you and your family.
Thank you
It's funny how this hits exactly when my son's Chevy Avalanche pushed him to his limit. He loved his Avalanche. Something in the computer started messing up. All sorts of things. His temperature setting was set on 68 when he parked it. The next morning, he cranked it, and it was on 75. Going down the road, it just dies. Pull off, crank it, and go...so aggravating. It took it to the dealership TWICE, not fixed, two other independent mechanics couldn't find it...yesterday I got a picture of his lead foot gray, 2021 Ford, 4 door, V6 twin turbo, 400 hp 4x4. 100,000 mile warranty. He didn't want payments, but he was sick of the aggravation. I'm w you, Mike. I hope they find your two problems and resolve them because we all know you like it so much. Little things add up. When it's new, not well used, that's got to stop or it's gone! Sharing little things like that w us/me makes me feel close to you. One doesn't get that on TV. Sweet video today. Thank you.👍🚜❤️🙏🇺🇲🇺🇲
Good morning to all the Morgan’s
Enjoy your videos! Mike just the fact you’re on RUclips commenting/ complaining about the squeak on your Vermeer and they haven’t taken the opportunity to rectify the issue ( on RUclips) speaks volumes!
Mornin Mike.
When we would break the points off of plumb bobs we would throw them in the back of truck and within a week it would vibrate the remaining piece out so we could replace it.
I am calling the American Society for the Protection of Plumb Bobs to report your treatment of these humble instruments. Having some surveying experience, I remember using these for doing other than developing a plumb line. Of course, in the process, damaging the tip.
If the guys at Vermeer aren't dying to get this stuff fixed, they need to figure out a new line of work.
- Not sure how much business / sales comes from your channel for Vermeer products but got to imagine they best make you satisfied. Your about as fair as they come and your viewers know it.
In all honesty, Mike shouldn't get preferential treatment anymore than any other customer. Fix the damn defects and make it right. It's under warranty----end of discussion
Back in early 70's when bumper stickers were fun, I had a sticker on my PU...
"Ditch Witch - Digs Our Country". Got a lot of comments on it! 😁
Bearings are sourced and so are electronics, chance of getting a bad one are probably slim but I wouldn't give up yet. Good video 👍
I feel the same way on the squeeks in machinery. In my riding mower's cutting deck, my truck running down the highway, anything. Had a squeek in truck - drove me bonkers. Turned out it was headlight frame rubbing on metal. Mower had one - could not find it anywhere, friend neighbor came over and we were talking, mentioned it and he looked, spring on tentioner bracket needed oil. DAH! Yup, drives ya bonkers!! Endless list... Have a great day and hope they get fixed for you.
Higher than normal amount of acorns means winter will be cooler than normal with more ground cover of snow. Mother Nature knows what she is doing and she is providing her animals with the food they will need to survive the winter.
Old wives tales are not science.. neither is the Farmers Almanac.. I’ve experienced many Mast years with my Oak woodlands and not once was there a weather anomaly involved 😅
Mike, let's dig 18. He has a squeak on his big machine when it's dry out. Rain, and it goes away. He hates it. I understand why its a problem. The electronics went out on my mower. Since there is no key and every safety switch is tied to it, you can't start it. 350 dollars and service call its fine now. Electronics was never good on high vibration things and being out in the sun and rain. Not stored out but gets caught out in rain when mowing. It just failed after a while. Dust and dirt didn't help, mowing when dry and windy covers the mower and me. Hope they resolve the problem. Honesty is a good policy.
Morning Mike, great explanation of the wood costs. Enjoyed Levi teaching about the acorns white vs red, did not know that.. Good luck with getting the machine fixed and hopefully they step up and go over it thoroughly for you.
Good luck with the repairs on the mini skid. Let’s hope it’s not down for long.
As for making money milling lumber, hard woods are the ticket for me. live edge boards being the key for most crafters and the buyers in this area. the big store keep all the dementional lumber in stock and it's hard to compete. I do cut 2x6 and 2x4 and such out of the poplar. sidding as well. some times cherry and hickory as well. best of luck. I've allways used bobcat mini skids and larger units. great service and products.
Vermeer is family owned! I understand they are very proud and protective of their product. I think this is unique and they will get it corrected in a timely and professional manner!
The machines they make are having a lot of problems tho. For me they are big no.
Every bolt I touch I put Blue Loctite on now. The squeak has to be something stupid. The display, anything electronic can fail at any time. You'll see how good your dealer is after getting it back. The equipment is only as good as the support behind it! But I agree, for the price of trucks and heavy equipment there should be zero issues!
That’s awesome, tree to mill to lumber to truck to job 😎👍
A note on that Vortex scope, they will replace it even though it wasn’t a defect. A great company.
If I'm remembering correctly I believe Mike did a video on it and got it replaced by Vortex. I could be wrong though, but kinda remember it.
@@cashxx Yea, that sounds familiar
Can't blame you about getting the gauge replaced. Cause that shouldn't be acting crazy with only fifty hrs on it. The squeaking probably a bearing gone bad, you know, the last one in the box, and it was use only if needed, at the factory and it was close to quitting time and they just put on so they could go home. Trust me I worked in manufacturing for awhile, you would be surprised at what goes on on a production line. Any way y'all stay safe and have a great day.
Mike, as a former professional photographer the only tripods I ever rated were Manfrotto, have mine more than 20 years and still work perfectly.
Totally agree Jason. The only Trpod or monopod to own. Flogged mine for over 35 years without any problems.
Hi Mike, I just bought 6.4 acres in Frankfort, Ohio. 3 acres is grass the rest are trees. I hope to be living there by June 2025. If you have "old" equipment you don't want I'll gladly take it! You know like that old red truck or the skid loader or one of those old trailers! I'll even take Blueford off your hands! (LOL)! Keep up the great videos!
Here's what I would do about the Vermeer. It's under warranty. I would take it back to the dealer and explain to them how you feel about it. Leave it with them. Give them a change to fix what's wrong. If you're still not satisfied, sell it or trade it. Vermeer makes very good products. A lot of farmers around here along with landscapers; including my brother, sware by their products. I think that they'll fix it and you want have anymore problems. That's just me and what I would do. You like the machine, and how well it works. You know? Good luck on your decision!
Tip for Mike and others. Transmission fluid absorbs water when exposed to air. It will cause rust when applied to non painted metal (saw mill rail). Maybe use "used oil"
Levi is so interesting to listen to. I love watching channels that teach us about nature.
Good morning, Morgans! Sounds like Locktite should have sponsored this video.
Keep 'em comin', love your content from Crowley, Texas!
Haha! Adam going “squeak, squeak” on the video he sent you running his machine was hilarious! That’s what friends do!! You may have thought you were all over the place on your video but made sense to me; like you were thinking out loud. Anyway, enjoyed the video (Levi’s talk on the acorns was interesting & informative). Appreciate your efforts at making the videos! Take care.
Unfortunately I’m sure it’s in the electronics for the display issue. Just think, 5-10-20 years from now, that electronic part will be discontinued, same with our cars and trucks. My new Grand Cherokee L, day one, signed our papers, the wife and I buckle in, she adjusts her seat, the electric switch leans all the way down, and will not come back into the upright position. The dealer had no replacement switch’s, it took weeks for CJD to approve removal from a new car in the inventory to fix our issue. That’s nuts, well good luck, welcome to the world of disposable electronics.
too many stupid electronics on these machines....how about we just keep it simple
Too much money to be maid from replacement part & lack of service life. I agree with you 💯
Most likely some moisture got in there and is shorting out the electronics
+ Simple and dangerous ?!
+ Sorry, but thank God this happened , I tried to warn you when you first mentioned that noise ; it could be a bearing ready to come apart , all you need is to lift up the noisey side using a floor jack and inspect the chain gears . NOW , this new display problem could be related to the old one , could fix itself fixing the noise problem . Good luck .
@@Mike-y3qThe old, "I told you so"?? 😊
Well a company that cannot put a decal on straight does make you wonder about their quality control. Good luck on all 3 repairs.
That acorn thing made me think of the way bamboo dies off. All at the same time around the world. They flower and then the canopy opens up for seedlings because of the die off. How they tell time exactly the same all over the world is kinda amazing!
Mike have you tried to disconnect the battery and reattaching it? That may take care of the display.
There is a product called Plas-T-Pair, made by Rawn America, distributed by Cortec Spray Technologies out of Spooner, WI. That stuff would repair your tripod. It's a two-part product (powder and a liquid) that you mix together and apply. Repair cracks, fills gaps on plastic, wood or concrete items. I repaired office printers and copiers for years and used this stuff to repair many machines.
Mike,I'll be glad to buy the Vemeer off of you as is, but we would have to discuss a deduction for the crooked decal on the side....🤔🤔😎..............sorry....😅
Morning Morgans! Great explanation by Levi about Red Oak acorns. That explains why our yard is bombarded by thousands of falling acorns 24 hours per day. You are correct when you stated that last year there were very few. I am just north of Raleigh, so the East Coast Red Oaks are following the same pattern of acorn production. The Deer are on the trail camera every evening "chowing down" on the "bonanza!" Vermeer should have a tech support mechanic/trouble-shooter at your doorstep tomorrow with the answers. I wonder what the outcome will be? Good luck!
Can you imagine the cops that are hiding in fear due to the acorns falling?? 😭😭😭
Greg from northern Michigan. Today's off-road equipment is horribly complex in order to meet stringent engine exhaust emission standards, and this leads to many other assembly, quality, durability, reliability, and performance related issues. Your display is stuck in a self check startup mode. This can occur from a defective display, poor electrical connection or ground, or from low battery voltage during engine startup. Hopefully your nearby dealer can sort these issues out under warranty.
Another great video, Mike. Don't give up on your EDC. It's a sign of the times that we live in. Have a great weekend, sir.
Good Saturday morning everyone!!
Morning!
Good Saturday Morning from a chilly NC. My grandfather was born in 1899, he always told me….mother nature always provides extra seeds from trees…as a sign for a hard winter. It Feeds all the deer and the other animals in the forest… to give them extra to make it through. He saw a lot of winters in his lifetime.
Where is the kiln? So excited for you to have it.
Mike, i appreciate your explanation around the financial aspects of the saw mill. That same concept applies to most small buainesses and why its important to our way of life that large corporations continue to invest and invent. The larger the business operation, the more "affordable" many goods are often times.
Good morning Morgans and friends. Having an issue or problem with a big exspense like the vermeer is one thing, but how the dealer or seller handles the situation is another. Hope it's handled correctly and they make it right. Personally they would be tearing apart the side with the squeak. The squeak tells "me" something is just not right and will more then likely become another major issue eventually. Just my $.02
Tell the family hello and have a great day. Be vigilant and we'll see you all down the road..... thanks
When I bought my '99 Ford F250 SD it had a constant noise like a washer was loose and it would ring like a bell. Anyone who rode in my truck would mention it. The nose never bothered me and now in 2024 it no longer makes that noise...there are a lot of other problems with the truck but none in relation to that noise. Great video Mike thumbs up.
Blue thread locker...
That stinks but hopefully they’ll get you repaired pretty quick. Your channel has become one of my favorites. As a forester, I find most everything you do interesting and informative. My dad and grandfather were saw-millers here in Georgia and I’m considering a Wood Mizer when I retire in 9 months. Keep em coming. . 👍
Thanks for being here
Good morning to Hunter 👋👋😺and family and friends , Happy Caturday everyone 😸😺
Good morning!
@@OutdoorsWithTheMorgans / Good morning Mike and Melissa 👍🙏🙏
Good morning BadCat, hope you have a great Thanksgiving weekend. Steve in Calgary
Good morning friend. Hope you have a great weekend. Be safe. 👊🙏 ❤️
Don't blame you at all Mike. Pay good money, a machine should work as it is designed to work. Hopefully they can "replace" an idler or something for the squeak, and a electronic module for the display, and take care of the issues. It's a beast, i was shocked at how well it performs, especially that size machine. It will, i am l sure work out, one way or another, repaired and all good OR new machine.. :) Good video... ty
❤💯🙏
I have noticed this over the years being a hunter and trapper .Yearly on the white oaks
for the acorns, once every three years for the red oaks, and once every 7 to 8 years you get boatloads.
Here in Southern Lycoming County, I do not have many acorns as compared to last year. Walnuts are plentiful near by, but not my trees. On your tripod, cut the plastic hold downs off and put some worm drive hose clamps on. A Leatherman on your belt would be good idea for the things you get into.
I was a manufacturing engineer and manager. When something as stupid as the label on the side was crooked, I would have been throwing up flags about the Quality Control. If they screw up the little things, what else have they rushed? The display looks like a stuck keyboard like the button was pressed down continuously. My guess is you have a bad sealed bearing on the track. But, is this showing they are rushing them out or buying 'cheap' components? Complicated machines can have a shakedown initiation period, but you are also seeing some of the OC that Japan has done for a long time. Of course Kubota had an engine a couple of years ago that was supposedly total junk too, so stuff does happen.
Great honest episode. You and your family are very successful YT content creators. Adam, that was a great send to Mike, squeak, squeak 👍👍👍
Mike, at 15:35, Vortex would have fixed or replaced that scope at no cost. And it does not matter if you are the original owner, or not.
Best customer service there is!
Good Morning I live in north Fl and have plenty of oaks white, red, and live oaks and right now acorns are so plentiful that it's almost Dangerous if I don't keep the concrete cleaned of you can step on them and have a fall. But the critters are loving it. By the way it's 47 degrees here in Havana Fl this morning. Have a day
You as well
REQUEST- Would be an interesting video if you can put together a chicken coop build segment.
I saw your pile of allen wrenches and was reminded of a really nice small travel tool set. The German company Wera make a tool set called the Wera Tool Check or the Tool Check Plus. Expensive but the nicest compact tool set I've ever carried in a vehicle. Comes in standard/imperial and metric. Gave mine to my boys when they left home and never replaced them. Hmmmm....Boys, guess what dad wants for Christmas.
Second....I've been screaming at the screen since that squeak started...."Why aren't you taking that darned thing back? Something is wrong beyond spraying some lube in there!!!" If your Ford squeaked like that, it would be in the shop immediately. I'm guessing the display need reset. Prolly some combo of buttons to press to reset the display. Still, I would want an explanation why it needed reset this early in your ownership?????
I like my little Wera kits.
Complex circutry in relatively small run construction equipment is a problem for several manufacturers...
mike, you also need to hire a lumber inspector for grade stamping of the softwoods if you want to sell it as structural grade, making it further "not worth it."
Love your channel. Tripod troubles? I have bought my share of so called "hunting" bipods/tripods". I have found them all to be junk. Finally learned my lesson and bought Manfrotto tripods. Lightweight strong and very reliable.
Mike, put a little bit of blue loctite on all bolts and screws. then theres no worries
For screws you want to stay where they are, but be able to remove adjust with some effort, use Loctite Blue. If you don’t want it to ever move or at least it will take a LOT of effort, use Loctite Red.
Morning Morgan's! Good equipment is only as good as the service provided by your local dealer. Hopefully, Mike, they will fix your issues & build a long-term relationship. Quality customer relations are the mark of a good company.
We got a bumper crop of acrons as well here in North Louisiana & at my deer camp in South Arkansas. Thank you, Levi, for your insight. Nice lumber to work with.
I have no idea how many hours I have on my ditchwitch which was a WELL used rental when I bought it a decade ago. It gets USED and abused. Hydraulic leaks here and there have been its only repairs. I have a kubota rental on one of my projects. I don’t get to have fun running them much anymore but do take time to do my own testing. That T handle drive control and not being able to see the cutting edge of the bucket rule it out. I’d buy the ditchwitch again if replaced. No doubt.
The coating on that tripod also appears to be less than optimal. I like Hunter's cameo in the ad. Greetings from the piedmont of Georgia.
Good morning y'all !!! Have a great weekend, and Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians !!!
Good morning Duncan, hope you and your family/friends have a great Thanksgiving weekend. -2C this morning in Calgary but nice afternoon s and blue skies. Steve
@@stephendobie5013 Good morning Steve ! All the best to you and your family ! It's going to be a nice weekend here in Kamloops, 22 and lows of 10, we're heading out camping and fishing for a few days ! I laughed watching the game a couple nights ago, that's Canucks hockey !!!
While the mini skid is in the shop, have them fix that sticker also. That's really bothering me 😂
Good morning Morgans !
I'm used to having issues with my tractor and equipment. Some I can fix, some go to the shop. Universally though, if I have to buy a part, it costs a fortune. I'll be interested in how much the repairs to your Vermeer cost, and whether it is covered completely by your warranty. These "annoying little issues" become a big deal when I get a thousand dollar bill to fix them.
+ Sorry, but thank God this happened , I tried to warn you when you first mentioned that noise ; it could be a bearing ready to come apart , all you need is to lift up the noisey side using a floor jack and inspect the chain gears . You have big plentiful acorns this year and ours are small in Idaho at our house. Wife and I were laughing, most people don't even know what kind of trees they have here in the city of Boise.
Good day, Morgan family.
I live in Sacramento, California, and I also have an abundance of acorns this year.
Unfortunately, the glass patio table did not survive lol. 😁
Oh no!! Bummer haha
@@OutdoorsWithTheMorgans you’re gonna have that!🤣
Oh yeah, that’s also a red oak.
Regarding the tripod screws (or anything that rides in or on a vehicle)…medium Loctite. It’s not always convenient, but worthwhile when you start losing screws just from vibration.
Good morning Morgan's. First off, Levi is a rolodex of information about trees. Secondly Mike get you some blue locktite or orange something that can break loose in future if need be.
Good morning! Hope you all have a great weekend!
Morning. Thanks, you too
My daughter, who lives in the Ozarks of Northwest Arkansas, is also experiencing heavy Acorn falling.
I hope the issues get resolved, but if not we will get to see how good Ditch Witch machines are too.. Will your attachments interchange with a Ditch Witch or will they have to be replaced again too?
sorry you are having trouble with the mini skid loader. Did you try disconnecting the battery for about 15 minutes to see if the computer would reset itself? Have a Day, from MA.
Yes to the SHOP!! ---> Yea gotta be able to read the codes for Warrantee
Hard to beat the 97, 57, and 4020. No one is immune from problems but Kubota is a pretty solid company.
Love Adam’s shot
we agree on the verneer. when buying a product and the acompanying warranty . the problem should be resolved.
Good morning sir. Happy Saturday to all and god bless America 🇺🇸
Morning
Mike, another excellent piece of work and video I’m glad you are going to be getting the mini skid fixed there’s a lot of jealous people out there that can’t just accept what you and your wife have worked hard for years keep up the great 👍 videos 😮😊❤
Thanks
That screen issue seems to me like something (either in the keypad or the circuitry) is shorted and sending the command to constantly scroll to the next option. It's probably a simple replacement on their part.
That screen is shorted out it is a simple replacement. I had mine replaced not for shorting out it was the plastic on the screen sun damaged it to the point you couldn’t see anything after a couple of years. I love mine hope all goes well with yours. Watch for lose bolts backing out.
Mike, remember this, it’s a machine built by man. In other words, you may have some issues here and there. When I worked for my former airline, we would receive new aircraft deliveries. Now mind you, we would spend $140 million for a new 737NG. During it’s first 30 days of flying passengers, we had numerous issues with stuff not working or breaking. Luckily, our warranty department would follow up and get the reimbursement deserved. You should do the same. Take it in, tell them your concern and give them an opportunity to make it right. Far too often, people don’t give people a chance. Just like going out to eat. Every once in awhile, our service from the waitress staff is poor. I still elect to leave a generous tip. Why? Because every so often I too have a bad day and maybe the waitress was having a bad day. It’s my way of saying, chin up, you got this.
@@haroldmessimer4949 Good comment here! 🙂
Our theory about an abundance of acorns is that forecasts a really bad winter. Hope that is wrong!!
Last year, we had TONS of acorns, and our winter was not that bad.
Hi Mike - I’m sure you covered this in the past, but relatively new to your channel. Could you cover what you do with your saw dust? You’re pretty much a “nothing goes to waste” guy, so I’m sure you do something with all that product!
Good morning from Kentucky . Have a wonderful day .
Could the mini skid have a DEF filter issue? I enjoy your videos, thank you.
I feel that a squeak is a potential problem. Funny you talk about vibration. I always wonder how digital electronics hold up under the constant vibration and exposure to elements.
The up or down arrow buttons are bad on the Vermeer, happens a lot to those type of displays on ac rooftop inverters. I’ve replace about 100 displays in my 6 year career. Also I think I mentioned this before, bearings come bad in the box once in a wile. I replaced a 3” shaft cooling tower fan bearings 1 out of 3 came bad they were about $700 per bearing.
That’s what warranties are for. The down time and inconvenience are the bigger issues.
The problem with your tripod is more likely the effects of heat and cold on the fasteners. The legs appear to be aluminum which will expand and contract greatly sitting that tool box.
Mike: might be a good idea to add some LOCTITE on the bolts, if you plan to keep carrying it in truck ??
Hi Mike......try using a disc grinder with the proper head to clean that rusty running rail? they make discs that just shine
I put a little clear nail polish I swipe from the Misses on all those little screws.holds them in place .And ya can get them out if ya want
That problem with your mini-skid looks like an update that is/or not complete/bad. Does it update on it's own or done manually? There shop should be able to fix, hopefully everything is under warrenty.
You gotta figure in the cost of mill, loader, saw and fuel. Not to mention your time. Still saved money. Because from store you gotta go to store and have a vehicle to haul it.
Good morning mike and Melissa! Mike, id bring that Vermeer back and demand them to keep it and fix the problems, like you said. I’m curious how they’ll handle it and how quickly they’ll fix it.
Good morning!
Morning Ted..... hope your weekend is a great one.... enjoy
Good morning Ted. Great seeing ya. Have a great weekend. 👊
So. Here’s my theory on the loose screws in the tripod for what it’s worth. Could be vibration, or, my theory is hot sun beating down on that box then cooling at night causing expansion and contraction of the metal thereby loosening the screws. Haha. I know right? Who really cares but I just had to share because it popped into my head while watching the video. Thanks for great content. 😊
I wonder if you could see the difference in the year you have a high amount of acorns in the growth rings?
The squeak is nothing but an annoyance, forget it. The display is a tiny issue the shop will fix it surely. It’s an awesome piece of equipment. Small glitches happen.
That cold front got my big bucks moving in the daytime. My Flex cameras have been sending a bunch of photos. You been seeing anything on camera?
