A word from someone who has been through some serious flooding and seen some terrible things: If you're going down to help, bring everything you need to be self-sustaining. Often, assistance groups, despite their good intentions find themselves dropping supplies, chainsawing all day and into the night, then become a burden on the community they came to help as they haven't brought their own food, water, tents or campers etc. Where we were in 2011, there was nothing left but ruins, so bring everything you need down to bathing water and toilet paper.

There's a surprisingly ample amount of resources in the area, I can confirm this. I was there. Stores are stocked and at this point getting things in is no problem, it just depends on which direction you come from. It's getting things to specific houses or neighborhoods that can be challenging.

True, most people in the USA are not very good travelers, they just throw money around. There is a system of protocol during emergencies and so many people do whatever they want without co-ordinating that it slowss things down. It's good to see some semblance of organization going on. People still complain. at first that it's too slow. That happens every time. I worked in prosecutions and like every drunk driver had "2 beers"

If God presents a way for me to be there I will but I am definitely praying for everyone. My hometown with all ny family and friends just got hit again on the coast of SW Florida too. God bless you all. I live in Mitchell county in western NC and videos just don’t do justice to the extent of the damage. The water peaked at over 26 feet on one of our main streets through town. Generators are badly needed, the nights are getting cold and some people in the higher elevations are being told it’ll be months without power. Again god bless you and everyone who has supported western NC through this. If anyone has lost faith in god, humanity or the United States just come to my area and the amount of volunteers, donations, and overall kindness you witness will reaffirm your faith.

Looks to me like people trying to serve those in need are fairly "grown" and would counter you need to grow up leave all that hate in your heart behind the weight may be liberating. No one is pushing faith to these people they are just helping the needy. I hope if you are ever in the situation you need help you could set aside the hate for Christians and other faiths and accept their aid. Even if you didn't they'd still help you. Whatever the reason is you hate people of faith hopefully you find peace and love for your fellow man one day. 🙏

I love this idea, brilliant! I know the churches there know where help is needed and you guys are truly a blessing. I am subbing to your channel to help support your work. It sounds like communication and coordination of all help centers would be an efficient way to make the most of the supplies on hand. You did an excellent job redirecting supplies where they were needed most. The idea of adopting a family is great. It is similar to the idea of “wrap services for an individual or family.” In social work, it is forming a team of professionals to work together to meet the needs of the family. Families are matched to services providers. This helps getting the right services to each particular family and avoids duplication.

Native Ashevillian here. The biggest problem isn’t supplies, it’s rebuilding the main waterlines.
The pipes didn’t just get hit, they are completely gone.
Civil engineers are working in tandem with construction contractors to dig and put pipes in place as fast possible it’s complicated because of height differentials.
Going up and down mountains with half-ton pipes isn’t something that can be done in a few days.
The second is that trash pile up, rubble is in such remote places that it’s either incredibly hard to clear and clean or impossible because it’s inaccessible.
I guarantee you’ll be seeing destroyed houses along Yancey county River sides probably forever.
We don’t have a lot of money around here except for Reynolds mountain and Biltmore and they keep to themselves.
A lot of those people have their second or third homes in those places.
Edit: I’m in no way at trying to deter what y’all are doing, it’s good work.
I just wanted to inform everyone of the current situation.
Also, there was a pvc manufacturing plant that leaked toxic chemicals into the French broad so a lot of the clean up was postponed till the EPA comes in.
If you do any near River clean ups in the future. IE River arts district, Marshall, please wear 95s and PPE!

    • @robertcabrera6232

Correction, it's not something they're used to in North Georgia or the Carolinas, but unfortunately, it's become almost a yearly occurrence in Florida, and a semi-annual occurrence in the coastal parts of Northeast Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. As a native Floridian experiencing such devastation somewhere in the state each year has become the norm, not the exception, and we often experience multiple storms in the same year only weeks or months apart.
When Wilma struck us about 6 weeks after Katrina in 2005, my neighborhood was left without power, running water, cable or internet for more than a month afterwards. For more than two weeks flooded streets had knee deep standing water in them. And when city water was finally restored we had to boil it for an additional 2 plus weeks before it could be used from the tap. We are taught from when we're in school as kids that whenever our area is in the forecast "Cone of Uncertainty" to prepare by storing enough nonperishable food, canned goods, and bottled water to live off of for up to two weeks, to top off the cars and fill-up cans with gas, get propane cans for the grill, secure anything loose from outside that could become a projectile, board up windows and sandbag around the garage and exterior doors, and purchase fresh batteries for lanterns and radios.
What makes the situation they are experiencing in the Carolinas unique is such storms have until now been extremely rare, and when they have occurred in the past many fewer people were living there. So no one was prepared for this, and there is no institutional knowledge to fall back on how to recover from it. Unfortunately, with such disasters experience makes preparation and recovery easier to deal with because with that experience comes resiliency and an understanding of what to do for the next time. Building codes and flood zones will need updating to take into account such events. Institutions will need hardening so recovery can begin sooner, and collective memories will make recovery easier to deal with in the future.

With Calvary Chapel, I went on a mission trip to take care of kids. Abandoned kids, some rescued from dumpsters, some so messed up that their parents didn’t want them. Some parents don’t deserve their children. Calvary Chapel is awesome.

Sara. Most of us don’t deserve the providence of the Lord. We must all keep trying and praying.

I brought 4 large batteries from my Ryobi riding mower along with some offroading lights and 16 gauge outdoor cable to Word of Life Church in Johnson City who was able to find a shelter camp in Poga that is now using them for lighting at night. They'll be able to power lights all night every night for a long time just with that.

I recently found out that an idea i had sevrral years ago while brainstorming with some missionaries in the Amazon was used and has been very successful in Venezuela. At first i was shocked when you left Samaritans Purse but glad God gave you a different approach. Hooking up these folks with new friends to help on a long term basis is first I've heard of. Simple yet brilliant. Good stuff 🙏
