Note perfect. I’ve never watched a cover of that track with more attention. Quite brilliant.
Thank you dude! Glad you enjoyed.🙂
pretty amazing
@@alanmansfield9109 thank you!🙂
You made that absolute beast of a bassline look effortless. Superb!
Thank you!🙂 Yeah, Norman rules!🙂
From a keyboardist to a bass player, ..that was smooth✨✨✨✨
Absolutely fantastic. I find this so hard to play, or to put it another way I can't play it at all. Great job!!
Thank you! It took me a very long time to play it. If you can learn it at a slow speed first then slowly build up over time might help you.
@@RichardIresonMusician That's exactly right. You must "program the old computer (brain) first, then the speed will come.
Hey brother - I had to drop by again! After 1 and a half weeks on this track, I'm STILL getting comfortable getting it under my fingers. I have the 1st half pretty cleanly and accurate - BUT, I'm still trying to remember the changes at this point. It won't be too long now, I hope! This is one of THEE most difficult pieces I've ever tried to lift before! The duration, alone, is a challenge in and of itself! But it's fair to say, that one of my weakest points as a bass player is remembering structure and subtle changes. The "technique" part, at least for me, is cake-walk. Just wanted to say that I'm SO GLAD that you re-introduced me to this classic tune and I hope my version, when I'm ready, will put a smile on your face!
Can't wait to hear it!😊
The timing ⏱️ unreal 🎉amazing
@@Cartsp70 Thank you!🙂
Best cover of Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick I've seen on RUclips and I've watched them all. 👍👏👏👏👏
Aww man, that's kind of you to say. Thank you!🙂
dont see any difference myself all played the same
@@garyyoung5451 thank you for your comment.
@@RichardIresonMusician no worries bro some good ones on here top line been on it myself
@@garyyoung5451 ridiculous to say they're all played the same. Some are played parrot fashion and some are played with real feel and musicality 🤦
The thumbs down are from people who wish they could play this
Each to their own, it'd be a dull world if we were all the same.
This has to be the best cover of this I've seen yet. Norman Watt-Roy has to be the best bass player ever in my opinion.
Norman is an absolute legend in my opinion too!🙂❤. And thank you, your feedback is very much appreciated!🙂
Brilliant 👏
Thank you, glad you liked it!😊
According to a poll in Guitarist Magazine (I seem to recall) this & The Big Money were voted the 2 most difficult bass lines ever.
Well, I can certainly say it was one helluva challenge for me!😂
The Big Money by Rush? Interesting, I find YYZ much more difficult to play than The big Money
@@andyd9770
It WAS a guitarists' comic! Just can't remember which one. And I agree.
Wow! Was it really 11 months ago that I made that comment?!
the bass really drives this song forward, great cover.
Thank you!🙂
Tight AF!!!
Thank you most kindly!🙂
Iv saved this video and sent it my mum 👍🤩 love it.
Cheers dude!🙂
Great job Sir.
Thank you most kindly!😊
Unreal.
Thanks dude!🙂
I never noticed how complex this bass was until I saw a couple of bass videos.
Certainly very challenging.
Nice one! One of those basslines that makes a song and you do it great.
Thank you buddy!🙂
Bravo!!👏🏽❤️🎶
Thank you!😊
Wow... such a difficult bass line to play. Faultless!
Thank you bud!🙂
Bow to a master ^^^^ much respect.
thank you!🙂
Smooth and flowing ✨
Thank you!🙂
If I played bass guitar for a million years, I still wouldn't be able to play this.
I certainly found it very challenging, however I'm sure that if you put your mind to it you could do it justice 🙂
Hit me
You got it bro
Cheers dude!🙂
You sir killed that bass line, you make it look so easy with those seemingly effortless precise movements. Can’t wait to explore your channel and see what else you got!

Aww, cheers dude!🙂
Fab 👌
Thank you!🙂
Love this rhythm and bass line! Awesome job man!
Thank you dude!🙂
Perfect.
Thank you!🙂
Spot on Well done! A fun way to play this is to make a barre with the index finger across all strings at the 8th fret and play the verses in a box shape barely lifting your index finger from across all 4 strings at once and keeping the other fingers straight as possible so the high F is played with the first portion of the 3rd finger rather than the tip. Very economic and an alternate way to approach it :)
Thank you and .....blimey!🧐 I'm gunna have to take a look at that!🙂
@@RichardIresonMusician You can play verses entirely between 8th and 11th frets except the last note (of the fill into the chorus) which would be 12th fret of the E string
Fantastic,my favourite song of all time, thanks
Thank you!🙂 My pleasure glad you liked 🙂
An excellent performance!
Thank you most kindly sir!🙂
Thank you very much Richard for the good information

👏 great playing
Thank you!😊
This is more like the original than my interpretation I notice. Handy tips picked up. Thanks! I find learning this, it's the pace and groove and flow that is the trick and takes practice. Yours is great! 😎
Thanks dude!🙂 Have you uploaded your version?

@@RichardIresonMusician Cheers my friend!
Spot on, great sound. Absolutely brilliant.
Thank you so much!🙂
Richard, I have to apologize - I've been back to see this video a handful of times and realized that I've never commented! This is AMAZINGLY AMAZING, man! The cleanliness and execution of this beastly line is utterly fantastic, my friend! It's gonna be a long while before I'm even remotely comfortable playing this - not to mention how long it's going to take me to remember! BRAVO, MAN! BRAVO!
That is very kind of you indeed sir, especially coming from one so talented!😊
As the others have said ive seeen a few covers sof this and this one is REALLy good,
Thank you, that is really very much appreciated!🙂 Norman is a bit of a hero of mine.
@@RichardIresonMusician Do you play in a band?
@@davidmg1925 played in many over the years but the lockdown has stymied an actual band at the moment. However I'm very lucky to know many very talented players and singers so have been honoured to have been involved in collaborations over the last year or two.
Great job! I know hard this one is to play. You've made this one yours without leaving the original behind. Norman W-R would be pretty damn impressed!
I had to play this over half a dozen times, I enjoyed the musicality and beautiful tone.
Interested in what your rig was for this song.
Thank you sir, glad you liked it. The "rig" was the Jazz straight into my audio interface, on into reaper. Then added a hint of reaper's own waveshaping distortion then in to reaper's convolution amp/cab modeller. I can't remember the exact amp/cab settings but I can find out if you are interested.
Excellent
Thank you dude!🙂
Subscribed. Super playing and respect.

Fantastic job, nailed it.
Thank you!🙂
Of all the versions of this beautiful song that I have seen on RUclips, this is the one I like the most. There are other very good ones too, but I don't know why this is the one that comes to me the most. Thanks.
That is very much appreciated. Thank you!🙂
Amazing execution; perhaps the best bass cover I've seen of this song. Thanks.
Oh, thank you so much dude!🙂
One word... Fantastique!!!

Nicely done.

Great cover, Richard. It's certainly a handful to play.

think I better dance now.
Magnificent playing ...very nice bass tone too.
Thanks dude!🙂
You got the essence....... all thumbs up.......
Thank you!😊
Stunning
Cheers dude!🙂
Excellent playing, great timing and tone......could have been the great man Norman himself!
Thank you dude!
Very tricky bass line to play with them 16th notes it's very busy Norman watt Roy is a great bassist I can't play it either tried a few times but I'm sure I'll go back to it 😎
Have you the facility to play back the original at a slower tempo?
I have seen them all, and this is the best. Boomers FTW!
Thank you dude!🙂
De todas las versiones de esta preciosa canción que he visto en RUclips está es la que más me gusta. Hay otras muy buenas también, pero no se porque esta es la que más me llega. Gracias.
Gracias por sus amables palabras. Me alegro de que te guste!🙂
Really great version there mate, one of the best, so smooth yet solid, and made to look easy!!
That's very much appreciated, thank you!🙂
@@RichardIresonMusician Your welcome!
awesome mate
Thank you dude!🙂
@@RichardIresonMusician the 7th bar of each verse when you 'walk it up' as a bridge is *chef's kiss*
@@davidlittle7182 aww, thanks dude!🙂❤
@@davidlittle7182 do you play yourself?
@@RichardIresonMusician absolutely not :-) I used to play guitar badly but still love to watch videos like yours. It appeared in my TL because Warren Huart just released a video on how HMWYRS was produced
God favorit.
Are you famous? If not, you should be.
Thank you, no, just an enthusiastic hobbyist.🙂
oh how fluid 🦈
Thanks dude!🙂
@@RichardIresonMusician that's one of the coolest bass lines ever, and I struggled for a few weeks before being able to nail it more or less decently and fluently, yet in a slightly more staccato style. Your fluidity makes me want to work on it, and your fingering positions are interesting too, perhaps slightly easier to do that jacoesque chromatic progression on the A string upper the neck rather than on the D string, as Norman does it....
@@paolozak3014 hi Paolo, good to hear from you. It took me ages to get it like that! The way I did it was to play along with it at around 70% tempo and nail it at that speed then gradually increase to full speed over time. As far as positions go I just did it for my own comfort and ability, I didn't look to see how Norman played it!🤔
@@RichardIresonMusician yes, doing it well slowly at first ends up paying off, doesn't it. But it takes patience, obstination and right technique to get above the clouds 😋 ...where are you from, btw?
@@paolozak3014 Northern Ireland. Where are you from yourself?
Better than I've seen Norman play it
They are kind but in my opinion misguided words!🤔😂. I would never compare my playing with Norman's!🤪
@@RichardIresonMusician No disrespect meant to Norman, he wrote it after all, but you really do it justice. I've been working on it myself recently so have watched a lot of videos of it (Blockheads & covers) and few nail it.
@@corkytc it's really very kind of you to say, thank you again!🙂
Great playing! looks like a 74 or 75 Jazz bass? And are you playing with just the neck pickup on this? Great tone
Hi, thank you!🙂. As near as I can tell without taking the neck off it's a '73 or possibly '72. It has a low 300,000 serial number. Until recently, and including on this track both pickups were up full and tone up full. On my more recent covers I'm favouring the bridge pickup.
@@RichardIresonMusician ah, ok, maybe your vol knob lines don't line up the same, they looked uneven. Love those 70's Fender basses, they have a tone of their own.
@@rrdream2400 they do indeed, l love mine!🙂
Fantastic bass line you use any program for the bass sound or is direct thank you
Glad you like, thank you. Direct into audio interface, a bit of waveshaping distortion and a wee bit of compression, that's about it if my memory serves me correctly.
fucking awsome not a single note missec
Cheers dude!🙂
do you take cover requests?
I've never really thought about it!🤔🙃. Did you have anything in mind?
@@RichardIresonMusician Are you able to play The River by Austin Mo? 🤔
