  • Probably the most challenging piece I've ever cut to video. My interpretation of the mighty Geddy Lee's bass line in Rush's classic, YYZ. I have taken a few liberties with it so I hope I haven't upset too many Rush fans!

Great stuff. I liked your improvisation of the main riff you did towards the end of the piece.

Thank you! Any improvisation was purely as a result of my inability to do what Geddy did!🤣

@@RichardIresonMusician I remember - I lifted it back in the 80's when it came out and I had the most difficult time getting it under the fingers - but I do remember it being a HUGE challenge.

@@ricky4001cs not much I'm afraid, bought in the '80s, played in small time local bands. One day, stopped working for no apparent reason. Opened it up to investigate and found a dead mouldy 9V battery!🤔, someone prior to my owning it had put active pups in!😲😂. A few years back I restored closer to the original by replacing them with passive Custom Shop Jazz pups. That's about it!😂

@@RichardIresonMusician Yeah, I have a 4001 given to me in 1980, and I have a 4001CS (limited edition Chris Squire signature series) that I purchased new around 1992

I’ve never seen the solos in that position before. I’d love a transcription of what you did there. Sounds legit. Cheers

Thank you!🙂 I learn stuff by ear, so what I played there was simply how I heard it. I didn't reference Geddy for position or anything so it's probably nothing like how he did it!😂

Sounds like the notes were right on just on the recording Geddy does those licks an octave higher - great job on playing the entire tune - sounded killer!!!

I don't recall Geddy Lee playing in a flat cap :) he may have had a Whippet though
