I'm so glad you put in that clip about heat-treating the flour in the cake mix. The entire time you were making the shake, I kept thinking about how dangerous it is to eat raw flour. Btw, the new set looks amazing.
I've never heard such a thing in my nearly 40 years alive and neither had my grandparents or great grandma. Must be a new revelation. We've grown up on eating raw cake and cookie batters.
@@Naomi-pq6tv obviously we as society are alawys discovering new things, so just because you/your great grandparents did things without knowing, it doesn't mean it isn't harmful, look at the history of children smoking. But yes, raw flour isn't treated to kill off germs like salmonella and E.coli, so you need to heat it to kill the germs, like you would for eggs. I think a fun twist on this series might be 4 dishes with 12 ingredients total, you can mix and match the ingredients in each dish, as long as its 12 or less
Good idea! But in that case I'd suggest less ingredients, something like 6-7. Butter, potatoes, eggs, cream cheese, sweet potato, carrots... those can all be used in both sweet and savory meals so it opens up a wide range of meal options. Breakfast-lunch-dinner or entree-main-dessert, sweet and savory appetisers and so on
helpful hint for the next time you do chocolate in a metal mold : spray or wipe some oil on the mold , it will help with release later on , also im sure you could find cupcake liners to fit that mold . i do my peanutbutter cups in a muffin tin and use cupcake liners for the shape and the creases . i made for my husband for valentines day filled chocolates , i used cherry pie filling and mixed berry filling , i learned that if you coat the mold first with a thin layer of chocolate , let it set then add another layer , it makes a firmer piece of candy , tops or bottoms wont cave in and get your hands all sticky . so double layer coating of chocolate then filling then top with more chocolate .
For the peanut butter cups : It is way better to temper the chocolate first. Then pour it into the form - let it cool some time (NOT in the fridge) and then pour out the still liquid chocolate out. You will get a chocolate shell that can be filled and topped with some more chocolate.
I used to make a smoked haddock dish that is very similar to yours, many years ago. The main difference was that to serve it (also on rice) I added a poached egg. It made the haddock go a little further when feeding a family!
For the chocolate peanut butter cups if they get stuck to the mold, place them face up in a tray of hot tap water. It will slightly melt the outside of the chocolate allowing it to come out.
Honestly, I love cake batter before it’s even baked. I don’t know how many times I have licked the bowl and the spatula over my lifetime and I have never gotten sick. Some people that may have sensitive stomachs or got it in their head something gonna make them sick from it they’ll probably get sick from eating it raw but then again, some people like raw eggs and I do not.
could depend on where you live or where you get your eggs from. in the usa, which i'm guessing you're from given your spelling, it's much more likely than in the uk, but far from certain, that your eggs will be infected with salmonella (in the uk we don't wash them and the chickens are vaccinated anyway). but if you get fresher eggs like from a farm, or if you buy free-range eggs, the risk of infection is lower
It's also raw flour that can harbour ecoli and salmonella if it's not heat treated before hand. You can use the oven or microwave and it just helps reduce the risks. But I've also never been sick from eating cake batter so 🤷🏼♀️😅
The cake batter milkshake reminded me of this place in Austin, TX called Bikinis (no longer around) where they made cake milkshakes -- baking a cake then cutting a slice of said cake and blending it up with ice cream.
The fish and baguette both look AMAZING. 😋😋😋 I like microwave rice with tinned mackrel flaked into it, it's quick and easy but very filling. 😊 When you were waving your hand around at the end I was convinced that Milkshake was going on the floor! 😂😱
I regularly make cookie dough. Because my husband loves it. I put it in the freezer. I always heat treat the flour. I also cook the eggs or use a flax egg. So he eats it straight from the freezer or I have the option of pulling the dough balls from the freezer and baking them.
Just made a quick 3 item snack, 6 1/2 inch (16 1/2cm) Greek flat bread, jar pizza sauce and mozzarella. Airfry for just 4mins (no need to preheat or turn) done! Delish!
The things you can buy in single packets for these sorts of things are great. Like just today, I got some chopped broccoli, cauliflower and carrot, with a cheesy sauce, all in one bag for the freezer, ready to steam as is in its own bag. Plenty of veg and its own sauce can be half a recipe right there. Imagine putting something like that in a pie or pasty. Yummy!
We used to sell heaps of smoked fish at Woolworths in Australia 25 years ago, particularly at Easter. Never see it anymore. Used to hate it but now I want some 😅
Barry for the homemade chocolate peanut butter cups try making sure the chocolate has a perfect temper then doing it in the same mold and first moving the chocolate up the sides then turning it over so the sides get an even coating and once that is dry you can reuse that spillage to give the bottom a bit thicker layer then let that dry this could be non tempered because the shell is tempered then the peanut butter and jelly then a top layer also a perfect temper then once its set if they dont pop out already give it a very short freezer burst of 5 minutes tops and they will slide out
Not sure if you’ve done it already but you can make a cake with cake mix and a can of fizzy drink! I did a cream soda and vanilla cake mix and it was awesome!
The pesto breadsticks look great! About the batter milkshake... WHY??? Why would you want to drink cakebatter??? The little peek of the new kitchen was so nice! Hopefullywe get to see more of it next time!
Oh no no. I'm a firm believer that if I am gonna have something bad for me, it should contain something good. So my 3 ingredients milkshake contains a quart of freshly sliced strawberries, vanilla ice cream and milk. Whizzed up in my ole 1970's Oster Galaxie blender, enough for 2 milkshakes for hubby and myself.
My peanut butter cup recipe already uses three ingredients, Chocolate, Peanut butter obviously but also icing sugar. You mix the icing sugar in with the peanut butter and it tastes almost EXACTLY like actual Reese's peanut butter. So for me to do this one I'd have to use 4 ingredients. :p For those who may be wondering, 2 cups of peanut butter heated in the microwave until soft, add 1 cup of powdered sugar and mix together. Then melt your chocolate(I use 3 cups of chocolate chips but use how ever much you want). Super simple and makes some really bloody good peanut butter cups. So you could basically do this but also add the jam and I would imagine it would taste great as well.
Whenever I make cakebatter I still always eat the leftovers in the bowl and on the wisks 😅 started way back when I was 4 or 5 probably, at my grandma's when she made her cakes and never stopped 🙈 so Ive sporadically been eating some amount of raw eggs and raw flower about all my life. 😅 I'm still alive.
