I used to be an OT and often recommended kettle tippers to my patients. I've never seen one like the one you used, it looked dangerous. normally you would use the handle of the kettle to control the pour, which gives you more control and stops it tipping over. I dont like the handle on the tipper at all.

We considered a kettle cradle for me because I struggled to lift the kettle, I was just shaking soo much the water was going everywhere. I took to leaning the kettle over the side of the sink and pouring into a cup in the sink.. I finally told my husband I couldn't do it any more. And he bought a hot cup. You fill it with a jug or something. Even a cup would work. Then it pours out a measured cup of hot water for you. Kind of like a Nespresso machine but for hot water. My husband tops it up once a week(sometimes more) and all I need to do is press a button.

Loved this video as always! But I did want to mention, please don't use a microwave to poach an egg it's extremely dangerous, even if you pierce the yolk the egg can explode and there have been many cases of people being severely burned from doing it. Ann Reardon has a video explaining the dangers, I had no idea myself until I saw it. It might not happen every time but the one time it does could be deadly so I think it is much safer to just cook them in a pot.
Sorry for the rant, I just try to spread awareness about the potential danger of this hack where I can. Have a good day!

If the 5-in-1 would extend the top edge of the tab opener forward, it would work. When we open a tab, the tip of our thumb is pressing down past the fulcrum of the tab lever. So they just need to mimic that.

The kettle pourer seems risky. It looked like the kettle was about the slide off when tipped and go crashing onto the floor.
It would be better to just get a dedicated hot water dispenser for something like that, since you not only don't need to fiddle about with the kettle to refill it, but there's usually just a simple button instead of a lever.

    • @Pythonaria
      @Pythonaria 2 года назад +4

We bought the Aqua Optima water dispenser recently as I have a very weak wrist thanks to an accident some years ago and we live in a very hard water area so the dispenser has a filter. We were going through kettles at a rate of one approximately every 2 years as they started leaking from the base. Didn't matter what brand it was either. The water dispenser is so easy to use - just select how hot you want your water (and if you select "boil" it really does boil the water). I like my coffee cooler and find that 80C works great. Then you select how much you want - for my cup 200ml, press the button and off it goes. You can also press the button again to stop the water flow. I also like that it really chills the water as well so really nice to have chilled water on tap during this hot weather. There is no waiting with this one like there is with others. Works instantaneously. Yes, it was pricey but worth every penny.

The instructions are to use a vinegar solution so no need to buy expensive descalers. It's also nice to have a cup of tea or coffee without bits of limescale in it.

For the first time I actually own a gadget featured in one of these videos. The can/bottle opener is great. I did have one instance where I got a little too aggressive though and ripped the pull tab off the can.

Thank you for showing and testing helpful gadgets. I've had the micro mate thing for years but only ever thought to use it as a splatter guard so will definitely be putting it to more use now. I'm currently looking for a gadget that can open a can of drink, so knowing the one you showed doesn't work for that is super helpful. I've also only recently become aware of tipping kettles, as it's something that could really help me. I would love to see a video comparing gadgets that do the same thing (such as kettle pouring) with different ways and prices. Would be awesome if you could get an OT to collaborate with to explain what methods are best for what issues (ie which issue a tipping kettle works better for, or one that releases water via a button push, etc).

The drink can opener bit from the 5 way opener seems to only help you in gripping the ring pull, so you still have to be careful to not break it like usual. I swear they keep making these ring pulls flimsier and flimsier by the day.
Would be very useful if you have trouble grabbing the relatively small ring pull.

You shouldn't put eggs in the microwave. Ann Reardon of (How To Cook That) RUclips Channel did a video on the dangers of putting eggs in the microwave (Debunking Exploding Egg Hacks & Blowtorching Chocolate | Ann Reardon). She did experiments on hard boiled eggs, poaching eggs & eggs in & out of the shells in the microwave and how they explode.

The 5 in one opener jar opener portion needed lots of force since you pulled the entire lid off of the threads. It's designed to just break the vaccum seal then you can unscrew the lid easily.

The can opener especially the ring pool for soft drinks don't put it all the way in I grew up in bars similar things are are everywhere it the leverage is to close to the bottom of the tab.

As you accidentally showed, the kettle can fall out of the holder. That is flat out unforgivable.

Note, i think the reason the soda can opening part didn't work, is because there was no counter leverage pressing down on the part that's supposed to break. When you do it yourself, you put extra weight towards the direction you wish to open by placing either your palm on the opening side of the can, or by pushing down with your thumb on the break spot. That tool put all the leverage on the soda pull tab only, and pivoted at a bad spot. They should have given it a bit that extends past the tab and pushes on the tear strip itself while you pivot.

In the last few years the caps to bottle, at least 2L ones have gotten shorter, maybe even by 1/3 to 1/2 shorter so i wonder if there not being as many threads for that mento's thing is the issue?

  • @chellybelle77

Maybe the short strap goes around the handle? I see another clip opening at the back, so attach the short strap, through the handle and back down to the base?
Still doesn't fix the lid issues, though
This just feels like a burn accident waiting to happen though.
    Thanks for the vid! Cheers

That kettle tipper is so dangerous, I can't believe they sell them like that. a majority of kettles would end up being top heavy on that thing, and very likely to tip out of the cradle. Big red flag, avoid!
